I'm a UPS driver and had this light given to me by a Matco tool truck guy on my route. I've been using it every single day at work in rain, snow, extreme heat and cold and it has never let me down. Charge it once a week and it's good. The button is hard to push though I agree.

I've been a mercedes-benz technician for 10 years. I have had bigger flashlights in the past like the stinger which used to be a staple for mechanics but is large and bulky. I tend to find myself wondering where I put it down (the stinger) because it was cumbersome. I started using the micro-usb about 2 years ago (the black one) and I quickly learned how convenient it was when it shared a shirt pocket with my pen and pocket screw driver. It soon became essential for me. I never had to look for a flash light. I never had to ask or go back to my box to grab mine. I always had it on me. As far as how it has performed it has been great. Has survived hundreds of drops (it has patina'd (probably spelled incorrectly) nicely) and my only downside to it is the o-ring tends to roll out of its holder from opening the sleeve over time. Applying some grease to it has helped with that. All in all great product from someone who heavily uses flashlights, especially for the money. Great video as always. Your perspective and meticulous nature is appreciated.

Same story here , Volvo Technician forever and went the Stinger route until
I switched over to the stylus pro. It fits my shirt pocket and never gets lost or misplaced. Mine has proved to be nearly indestructible and when it has failed (switch)Streamlight has fixed it FOC.

Thanks for the review! I'm a flashlight fan and I get all your points re: everyday use. I'm also a pilot, and I tell you, in the cockpit we love this light. It's basically the thinnest and lightest you can get at that length (flight bags are always bursting), it's not too short like the RV (easier to handle in a pinch), it does NOT have a crazy bright mode (just annoying to others), it's HARD to turn on (by mistake), it has a reversible clip, and we don't care about water. So it's basically perfect :) and none of the alternatives work as well. It would be lovely if they made it usb-c!

I think this flashlight is perfect for the normal person, not anyone watching this video. It's rechargeable ,brighter than most cheap lights, reliable and from a well known company you can find in many box stores. But compared to many of the flashlights nerds like us like, it doesn't quite stack up.

@maxlvledc I completely agree with you. It's probably brand recognition more than anything. Amazon reviews are weird sometimes but that's a whole other discussion. I have been packing this little light for a long while with 100% reliability. That includes two trips thru the washer /dryer without an issue, not the case for my O-light i5R which died first trip thru.As far as that goes mine has also been rain soaked and carried in soaking wet pants without an issue. The output is fine for what I use mine for and I like the size and find the small diameter pocket friendly. The on/off button requires a fingertip as opposed to a thumb and after getting used to it is not a problem for me. I also carried a two AAA model as my daily work light as a auto tech for years and beat the heck out of it. But the best thing is Streamlights customer service which has always been incredible when I have needed them. I like your videos and reviews but will disagree with you on this one.

Ive carried the standard AAA version every day for about 10 years. Its incredible. I have beat the snot out of it. Its not a ton of light, but in a lot of cases, its all you really "need". Its also a great light for "non-flashlight" people. One mode, press and go. Plus, the tail button is so nice to operarate. Streamlight could be considered a little behind the times with features, but in most cases, they're more than anyone needs and I would (and do) trust my life to them.

I've used and regularly carry both an Olight i3T and a RovyVon for about four years now. Both have held up well to my daily abuse. The i3T tail switch went bad so I contacted Olight about it. Gave them the serial number on the light and they sent me a new tail switch free of charge! They also followed up with emails inquiring if I received the part. Really great customer service for this day and age. I like the "plus" versions of i3T and i5T as well. I was thinking of getting a Streamlight but it'd probably stay in the box.

I've been carrying a streamlight stylus pro (2 AAA version) for a good part of the last decade and love it. Works great, slim form factor, lightweight, tough as nails, and 100 lumens is great for a pinch. I think there's more updated version of it now that I should think about upgrading to but the current version hasn't given me any problems at all. I also used to carry the stylus pen light when I worked as a bedside RN. It was a little on the bright side for checking someone's pupil response, but still a fantastic light. Eventually stopped carrying that one because of the goofy battery that it took

Great video. I've had the microstream usb for many years now. Since then, I've bought countless "better" lights... yet this is the one that always makes it into my pocket. Used and abused it and it has never let me down. The pocket clip has never come off. I've put it through the wash by accident and still works. The size is perfect for my pocket and love the coyote tan color.
I would love a newer model to come out with the same slim form factor that has more settings and better button that can take multiple battery types. I might finally try the i3T.

i’ve had this light for a couple of years and it’s a good light. I like stream light because their customer service is really good and I’ve had them replace multiple iterations of this flashlight when something goes wrong.
ultimately what I don’t like about it comes down to the fact that I want a flashlight that takes either a standard battery or a standard rechargeable battery. I have no use for a flashlight that takes a weird battery but has a USB port for charging. When that light goes out I need to be able to get it up and running in less than 30 seconds.

  • @Robert-cd5zr
    @Robert-cd5zr 6 місяців тому +2

My original microstream with 10440 battery is noticeably brighter than their rechargeable version on high, but since this is overvolting the light, it is direct drive with only about 20 min of useful runtime (most of which significantly dimmer than it originally started) and sometimes it will cut itself off to protect itself. I have several examples some of which like it less than others, so there is some variability. I much prefer a single mode light and stream light does feature a "ten tap programmable" UI in several of their other lights which do allow setting a single mode, unfortunately the microstream is not one of them possibly due to space constraints. I still use one as an EDC light, but would be very happy if the next version has USB-C and a UI that allows for single mode as an option, in addition to improvements in waterproofing

I found my first streamlight in a vehicle I bought to fix up. It was a stylus pro. It was beat up and scratched all over and had clearly been stuffed in a dark crevice of the old vehicle I found it in for some time. When I found it, I clicked the button and it turned on, and it was another six months of regular use before I even had to replace the battery. I have yet to actually break one. I'm on my third one only because I have lost my other two. Likely left in cars I have worked on. I keep buying them not because they're particularly bright or because they have the most useful output for all situations, but because they are the exact right thing for what I use them for. They only have one mode, so i get the same thing every time I push the button. They have just enough light output that I can use them as inspection lights for looking at stuff inside the engine bay or in other small, dimly lit, or dark places. They just barely sip on batteries, so that i only have to swap the two AAA cells about two or three times a year. And they are absolutely bomb proof. I'm convinced that the pocket flashlights by streamlight are *the* toughest and most reliable led flashlights in the world. And they're cheaper than a lot of things that don't work as well for my use case.

I have bought three Streamlight microstreams now. I have a habit of losing them and love the light and so I just buy another one. Actually, my wife found one in the dryer the other day and it still works so I told her to keep it in her purse. I LOVE that the tail button is harder to push...let me explain. I own two OLight i3 AAA powered lights now and the tail button is much too soft, broken clips and tail button intermittent failures. I clip carry in my front left pocket and the button sometimes gets bumped and turns on without me knowing and then when I need to use it the battery is dead. I buy the Streamlight for two reasons...the button takes more effort to press so that it won't turn on unless I want it to...also, I absolutely am turned off by a light that has modes. I don't need a light that has several modes and blinking and whatever. I just want it to turn on and then off. The Streamlight has about 45 lumens (I think it is) and is perfect for everyday use. If I need more light power, then I will go get a bigger flashlight. I don't need a rechargeable light either. AAA batteries are easy to come by and for my EDC it just works. I honestly could care less about the waterproof rating as well. Here's a thought...don't put your light under water lol. If you do, then buy another one and don't do it again. Just my two cents.

  • @OnusBones
    @OnusBones 6 місяців тому +4

I thought that was fair, and every point was reasonable. I've also decided that flashlights should have USB-C charging. I recently got the new I3T 2, and agree that it is probably the best AAA light out there. Both have two shortcomings though; first, neither can tail-stand, and neither one is set up to light an area. If that's a need, you'll lose the ability to use 3.7V cells, and get one of the worst pocket-clips out there, but Lumintop has a AAA flashlight that can tail-stand and includes a diffuser, for well under $20. Even their AA Tool is under $20, has the lousy clip, but can also use 3.7V batteries.
Too bad Sofirn doesn't offer a triple-A flashlight...

The Microstream is easy to charge, dead simple, pockets easily, clips to a hat, is priced well, and is tail switch only. There's very little competition with those attributes and it's the reason I gift this flashlight when I gift a flashlight and carry this as much as any other EDC light.

@@maxlvledc I would say that I don't buy the Microstream to use with non-rechargeable batteries (not that it's a bad feature), the clip works great even if the Olight is better, and recharging without removing the battery is really nice. Not to say that the Olight isn't a great light, too. I think we need more lights like them. Additionally, the tail switch is just right. It has never turned on in my pocket but is easy enough to activate. My wife liked hers so much that she gifted one to her mom.

It's quite old, so memory is only so exact but:
I feel like streamlight was one of the only companies to sell a *thin* pen-shaped light with a good illuminator (as far back as ~2010).
The device being micro-USB is definitely not forward-thinking, but most people are not nearly on your level of "everything I own is new and modern people don't use this connector anymore". I regularly use devices that charge with micro-USB.

That design in 2017 was an evolution of the original streamlight that Amazon has had listed since 2006. Which was an extremely durable, reliable design.

I still love this coyote brown version of that streamlight. I've always been a fan of It's switch because I have a strong enough grip not to have issues clicking it on when I want to, but I don't have to be extra careful when I want the light to turn off as soon as I take pressure off the button. The tail switch is like the best of both worlds for someone like me. If they upgraded the charging port and waterproof rating while keeping everything else the same, they would be making a near perfect EDC pocket flashlight for someone like me. I don't even care all that much about the lumen/candela output as it stands, but if they did upgrade it to be a little brighter, I certainly wouldn't complain.

I’ve washed it at least a dozen times. It’s fell out my pocket and frozen to the ground. The clip broke and fell under my car. I rode over it for a good month before I actually found it. Still works like the day I bought it. The company was easy to contact and sent a free replacement clip. Is this the best light out there for a flashlight snob. Definitely not. Is it an amazing and durable edc light for most people. Hell yes. If it had usb-c I would say it would be pretty much perfect. It's a great light. The batteries can be hit or miss; some work great for a long time and some like to wear out and not hold a charge rather quickly. I have both versions and I appreciate the brightness settings and the fact that you have to press deliberately to click the switch to 'on'...I almost always use it for momentary so that works out perfectly. I gifted one to my stepdad a couple years ago and he's still using it along with the original battery. He liked it so much that he had mom order him another as a backup. Everyone who sees mine is pretty impressed with it. I wouldn't trade it for anything the competitors are putting out, even though there's some good lights from several manufacturers in this class and I have a couple, they don't ride in my pocket everyday. The microstream does exactly what I want a light of that size to do exactly how I want it to do it.

I've been carrying a Streamlight microstream USB for about 10 years, I have multiple lights that are better than it, but the streamlight is still the one that goes in my pocket everyday. I agree with pretty much all that you said about the shortcomings of the light but there are 3 pros that keep it in my pocket that you didn't really mention, 1 is simplicity. This isn't super important to me, but to people like my dad who also carries this light, more than 2 outputs can be a detriment and he doesn't want to deal with that. second is the size, I know the Rovyvon is smaller, but the only one you mentioned that I like in my pocket as much as the streamlight is the pineapple mini. It just fits in the corner of my pocket comfortably. Third, is the half press temporary on mode, my dad works in large machines and needs a simple light to spot check things that are hard to see, and I think car mechanics also can understand what I'm talking about. Not having to fully toggle on and off can be a useful benefit for conserving battery and for spot checking things. none of these things are super important on their own, but I've yet to find a light that has it that I like better than the streamlight. Frankly my perfect light would be the Microstream with better waterproofing, better CRI, non proprietary battery and USB-C, I would switch and never look back.

I think you are little hard on my friend here. I used to do automotive maintenance and repair. I've had this flashlight since 2017. I have carried it everyday since then (except a week that it rode around in a customers hot coolant bottle before I had the opportunity to magnet fish it out, it turned back on without even charging it) and this thing has never failed me. The battery is still good as of now. The button gets easier to use with constant daily use, you simply need to break it in. It is one of the best I've ever owned. I have several of these charging cables laying around. Same thing you charge a PS4 controller with. I still use that controller to play PC games. Not everyone goes directly out and buys the newest things available. Sometimes dependability is better than new features.

For 35 dollars it is not worth it in 2024. But I've had it for a couple of years as a lamp at work and I can say that it's been through hell and it's still working. I only bought a longer cable on AliExpress and I charge it at the end of every working week. If you were to ask me, the upgrade would be USB C, a more efficient LED bulb, a choice of light temperature and the ability to program low-high or high-low.

@maxlvledc I do agree with you on some issues here, like for example a necessary upgrade to USB-C port, but that's about it. Yes, the High CRI LED is nice, but... It's a matter of preference for many people. When it comes to a "proprietary" battery, you've missed couple things. First of all, yes the original battery from the factory has three points of electrical contact, however, you can use standard 10440 ( button and flat top ). I've tested that myself. Yes, you won't be able to charge it inside the lite via USB port, but still, you absolutely can run 10440 in this light. It does not support 1.5V NiMh or Alkaline batteries, though. The pocket clip is almost perfect, one way to improve it is oxidizitation instead of black paint. So... Yep, you are right that this light is slightly outdated and need some upgrade. USB-C and Black Oxide Clip. When it comes to competition, well i do have ReyLight Pineapple Mini and Microstream USB... Yep, the tint is better on the ReyLight but from high mode it drops to lower output after 30 seconds because of the overheating protection, not so with the Microstream. One way to resolve this issue is just put in Reylight an Eneloop instead of 10440, but then... You get only 120 lumens instead of 240. So... Yeah, it's not that simple.

It's much closer to the Microstream and more practical than Pineapple, for sure. But yet again, 180 lumens vs 250 on Streamlight using recommended cells. Honestly, I would say the closest competitor to Microstream, that is actually smaller, brighter, cheaper, has USB Type-C, also has a better clip is TruNite Archer Mini, you even can choose the LED tint. The only downside is non-replaceable battery. But... If you do have some tools, skills and soldering iron this can be done too. I've done it before. Just for fun. Inside the Archer Mini is actually a flat top 10440.

I don't have any trouble with them for there intended purpose. I keep one on my multitool pouch and one in my SUV. They are intended for quick use when I need some light. I have never had a issue of a button being too difficult to press, especially compared to some other lights, like Maglite. I have never had an issue with the waterproof rating, not for regular everyday task or quick repairs outside. I'm not using for hiking or search and rescue, where it's in the rain for hours and possible drops in a puddle. I look at all kinds of flashlights. 200 to 400 lumens is ideal for 90% of tasks, having only a high and low setting is ideal for 90% of tasks. Why is it, however, that 90% of lights i come across have all kinds of brightness settings? Making it difficult to get to the setting you want. The only thing in my mind that would make them better, is longer battery life, so I don't have to charge them as often.
I've yet to find another flashlight that is as versatile, easy to use, size, and great price point as this flashlight.

Excellent video and probably the first one that I’ve respectfully disagreed with you on several parts. I’ve carried a Microstream for at least five years and tried to replace it with others without success. Micro USB charging has never been an issue but I agree that USB-C would be nice. Waterproof rating is not a concern for me. The button can, I admit, be a bit mushy but everyone who has a Microstream knows to use the corner of your thumb. I keep using the Microstream because it’s relatively cheap, replaceable, rechargeable, and pockets easy. A worn, paint-chipped Microstream is also an indication of how much of an EDC BRO you are. Spot on analysis on the battery situation, mine is in need of replacing. I’ll keep using my Microstream because it works perfect for me but I will concede that it needs an update. Updating charging, a more responsive button, and upgraded materials would go over very well with die hard Microstream fans like me. Excellent video my friend.

I have 2 of these. They work great. They're not heavy-use items. Micro-USB is extremely cormon, especially in small devices. Is USB-C more common? NO. is USB-C more desirable? Maybe. Depends on the device. Micro-USB is the standard for very small USB charged devices. USB-C ports are significantly larger and have more connectors and are more expensive. USB-C is overkill for this class of device. As a reviewer, you should know this.

Micro-USB was obviously used for many, many years in a plethora of devices, and was only replaced once a better design was finally agreed upon. Until that point, micro-USB was perfectly usable, and still is.
And when you need the SMALLEST multi-contact connector, like in the case of the MicroStream USB, IMO it's still a valid choice when the ultimate goal is to keep the overall size of the device down.
Is it the most robust connector? Obviously Not. But as long as you're not an idiot and have at least some level of patience, the connectors will last and perform for years with no issues, as I can attest to in real-world use.

As others here have stated, mine have also accidentally gone through our clothes washing machine multiple times as well, but with no ill effects.
But I didn't expect it to have any issues in that circumstance, because I've actually carried and used the original Streamlight Microstream "AAA" and this USB version many times when night surfing the California coast as well as in Sumatra!
I normally try to night-surf under a bright full moon whenever possible, but many times the best waves don't coincide with a full moon, so I've kept the Microstream USB tucked under the right sleeve of my long-sleeve wetsuit with just the tip of the LED/Lens exposed and pointing out. I also attached a short monofilament lanyard to the clip and to my Casio G-Shock's wristband.
When longboarding in smaller waves, I keep it clipped to a wetsuit hood that has a small, built-in front visor/bill. I attached a small plastic fishing float to the clip with a tiny S-S key ring loop in case it comes off of the visor bill of my hood.
I tried a few waterproof LED headlamps for this use case scenario as well, but with my wet head and all of the activity/motion when "duck-diving" and/or "bailing" in crashing waves and white-water, they would simply not stay in place and needed constant adjustment and fiddling.
Just in case, I always carried a second AAA Microstream with a fresh lithium AAA battery as a back up and placed it inside a tough, clear, and small plastic Zip-Loc type bag, and then put it in the key pocket of my wetsuit.
But the exposed Microstream in my wetsuit sleeve or on my hood cap never failed me except for very extended surf sessions where the battery finally gave out. The flashlight was constantly being submerged and agitated in the salt water while paddling around in the surf (A LOT).
However, I will say that I always used light applications of fresh, clear dielectric grease to help seal them from any water or debris intrusion. So there's that.
And I'd always rinse them off with with cold freshwater immediately after each surf session, and then in lukewarm water with a bit of mild dish soap when i got home...then dry them off and lightly reapply the dielectric grease on the front and rear threads and O-rings.
I still have at least two of those Microstream USB flashlights, and they still work fine after multiple years of abuse, and all of them with the original batteries, no less!
I've tried and owned quite a few other small "latest and greatest" EDC LED flashlights over the years, and the majority of them have failed all too soon for one reason or another...most often either the LED itself, or some part of the switch mechanism.
But the Microstreams have been solid and reliable overall.
The only issue I've had is that I used one of them so much that the rear rubber switch cover cracked/tore. When I contacted Streamlight about a replacement
part, they immediately sent me a complete rear screw-on switch section AND a complete, brand new flashlight including rechargeable battery! Not too many companies will do that these days.
      REGARDING YOR REVIEW & COMPARISONS:
      1. I don't know why you even bothered to include the much larger flashlights in this comparison. They are completely irrelevant to those who are looking at a Microstream and/or other compact "AAA" size flashlights as an EDC.
      2. For EDC, I'm not at all concerned about having the ULTIMATE Lumen Output, or the best possible CRI! As long as it has sufficient output for its general purpose use as an EDC flashlight, and it lasts a decent amount of time between recharging or battery swaps, I'm perfectly content. In addition, on the low power setting, I'm still actually amazed by just how long the tiny battery in these keeps it lit.
      3. I haven't yet NEEDED to purchase a replacement battery for any of the MicroStream USBs that I've had for multiple years with consistent use. However, Yes, I have purchased a few replacement batteries as a preemptive measure in anticipation of the day one of them needs a replacement. I don't find the batteries outrageously expensive for the quality and longevity I've experienced from them.
      4. Several of the other flashlights you featured don't have the dual/reversible clip which IMO is a prerequisite for those buying a comparable light to the Microstream. Some of the other clips also did not seem nearly as streamlined to keep the "overall package" sleek, low profile, and unobtrusive. I've never really had an issue with the clip on the Microstream being too weak or flimsy. IMO, it is "just right" for the size and form factor of this light.
      5. Regarding the "Stiff" Switch: With a few other small EDC flashlights I've owned, the "softer" or "lighter-touch" rear switches that weren't recessed have activated when clipped in my front pocket while kneeling down or crouching. The same applies to when I have packed some of them in a backpack while traveling and placing the bag in the aircraft's overhead carry-on storage, etc. I don't care for most of the Side Switch units for this reason as well. The Microstream will only turn on when you WANT it to, and once you use the Microstream for any length of time, you'll learn that there is a certain technique to turning it on easily. 😉 It's never been difficult for me or my petite significant other.
      6. The Microstream was designed for the "Mass Majority" or mainstream "Average Joe's" who just want a small, dependable, EDC flashlight with good overall design, usability, and basic, no-nonsence functionality. It's a very nice but K.I.S.S. type of flashlight. Streamlight used a very good LED module for its time and purposely didn't try to "over-drive" it like many of the others who were trying to gain an advantage. IME they take lots of abuse without flinching or skipping a beat, and "they just work."
      7. IMO, some of the other flashlights you featured are actually TOO SMALL in regards to being able to comfortably and safely handle them. In many cases it is too easy to loose your grip and control of such "tiny parts", which leads to misplacing them or dropping them where they may disappear forever into an unretrievable, small, deep, inaccessible nook & cranny, like dropping a small nut or bolt into the maze and abyss of a deep engine compartment. :/
      8. TBF, these were a decent bit less expensive when they were first released, but I think their popularity and lack of competition at the time drove the price up.
YES, I AGREE that the Microstream USB is due for an Update considering current technology and the competition. But it still remains a solid performer for the Everyday Joe's of the world who just want something from an established brand with a good reputation, and an EDC flashlight that is simple, reliable, and offers basic every-day functionality.
TWO things I'd like to see is the addition of a magnet under/within the rear rubber switch cover, with a flatter profile recessed switch and a design that would allow it to stand upright on-end even without the magnet.
And I'd also appreciate being able to program them for either H/L or L/H turn-on priority, with the option to have a Strobe & SOS mode. I don't really need more output lumens, though a slight increase wouldn't be unwelcomed, though I would prioritize run-time over anything else.
And while I haven't had any water/moisture/dust issues with the current design, an IP68 or even a slightly better rating than the current model would instill even greater confidence.
Nearly everyone that is subscribed to and views your channel is an EXTREME flashlight/torch nerd, and most likely an EDC fanatic. When it was designed, I really don't think this was ever the intended market Streamlight was aiming for. They've done well in creating an all-around performer for the mass market, and I've found them to be more reliable and "usable" as an EDC compared to any other small flashlight I've tried.
FUN FACT: I once did a high-end Calvin Klein women's handbag advertising photoshoot at night with a model at the old Del Monte canning plant/warehouse/docks in San Pedro, CA using a hodgepodge of cheap, small AA & AAA gas station/dollar store/checkout aisle LED flaslights. 😛
The flashlights were the ONLY light source for the photos and we had 4 photo assistants with a flashlight in each hand to highlight different features and areas of the handbags and model.
My AAA MicroStream was attached to one end of a mini "magic arm" with the other end attached to the base of the camera's tripod mounting screw receiver with the Microstream aimed at a precise angle into the front glass element of the lens to create a consistent "lens flare" and "starburst" effect.
My Microstream USB was also used as the "Key Light" due to its consistency and longevity, while all of the other flashlights were mostly used as accent lights to shape the scene.
We also used small pieces of different primary color gel filters over some of the flashlights to create unique "color splashes" on the model and handbags.
It was a very slow process due to the necessary low shutter speeds in order to get a proper exposure, and the model had to freeze in position for several seconds during each exposure, of which there were MANY (around 8 different handbags to shoot with the model in different outfits for each one as well)! Getting so many different flashlights positioned on the model and handbags perfectly and consistently by hand was also a chore.
The model was a "trooper" and was exhausted near the end, but the images were fantastic and very unique.
I've also used the Microstream flashlights to "paint with light" during long exposures on the Yucca or "Joshua" Trees for nighttime desert astrophotography scenes in Joshua Tree National Park and on other trees and foreground elements in the Sierra Nevada range.
So never underestimate the variety of uses of your small EDC flashlights, LOL!

@bbfoto7248 wow, that is quite a response! Thanks for that! I'd love to see how the I3T 2 holds up to your standards. I agree that it's the only one that truly compares 1v1. I'm also quite impressed it stayed watertight while surfing

I have an Olight I3T flashlight that works pretty well, but the clip sometimes falls off,I found a new Ycbright S21 flashlight on Amazon,It has a built-in clamp won't fall off, and a magnet on the tail switch, which is a nice little thing

it does not have low voltage protection, so you can run into the same issue as it does with the I3T. Accept the I3T reaches over 500lm with a 10440.

I had this for years. I bought the i3t on sale for £12 and the Wurkkos Ts10 on sale for £16 so gave it to my girlfriend. She uses it a lot and really likes it. It was a good little light but stopped carrying it over the other two or a Sofirn SC 32 also bought on sale for £26. It is good but like you say. More bang for your buck elsewhere these days.

I have had one of these for almost 5 years. Its simple and dependable. I dont plan on swimming with it. It weighs nothing. Your complaining about micro usb, but you need a whole charger to recharge the olights battery. I can just take a cable with me.

Only thing I really look at with flashlights is lumen{setting} spacing and the power source. Actually the more battery options the better. I do like to have a charging port as a backup. Unfortunately the only lights I will never buy are Olights. First almost all their lights have pwm and bothers my eyes. Second and more important is they started all the proprietary charging and batteries years ago. After u do that u are off my list. Only a company that wants to lock u down to their products does that. I came close to getting that Fenix I’ve had no issues with any of mine.

It the perfect size, fits in pocket, barely tell that it is there. i don't need 600 lumuns 250 is fine i could do with 150 if i could get more runtime. I like that its is rechargeable. I do wish it was usb C. The button you get used to.

Why get used to something that's bad? How could micro usb be more convenient then swapping rechargeable AAA?

    • @dzrjb1714
      @dzrjb1714 6 місяців тому

@@maxlvledc I don't have any other single rechargeable batteries. So that is more expensive to add to a different flashlight. I don't like throwing away AAA or AA batteries. I hope they update the charging system. I looked into the o light but the battery system doesn't work for me.

    • @rays5163
      @rays5163 6 місяців тому

I mean not having to unscrew the the thing every time you want to charge it is technically "more convenient" but I agree with you that not using a type-c to do it is outdated and the ability to have a spare battery on a charger you can swap in is basically like having unlimited battery. The integrated batteries is like my biggest gripe with modern. Like I don't care if my phone is 1mm thicker. Let me swap batteries.

I would say micro-USB is an inconvenience, but it is still widely used as it seems to be cheaper to implement than USB-C... or this flashlight may just be an older design. A similar flashlight but one that uses USB-C is made by Thrunite (the Archer mini); the Archer pro also has the same design but is more powerful. Both of these Thrunite Archers have an IPX-8 (2M) rating.

All Streamlight needs to do is upgrade the voltage regulator in the 1L-1AA so it can support 3.7v lithium ion rechargeables also so you could also use 14500's or 16340's. I would buy one today.
