What a fantastic collection of koi and so nice to see the genuine love for them on his face. Awesome video and work. So how was fixed for the long term? I heard something about pipe diameter? What was the probable cause of the misery? Lack of fast backwash once in a while over the bottom drain perhaps?
@@TheSchoolofKoinl thanks so much for the nice comments. 🙏 There were quite a few things that contributed to what went on including the change of water source and the development of the Java moss. The parameters such as pH, KH and TDS drastically changed and very quickly. Stressing the fish. Add to this the high bacterial load from the waste and it had the potential for disaster. If intervention had happened sooner, perhaps the Pond wouldn’t have been in such a state but because of personal reasons Paul could not do this. Details can be found in the magazine. The only solution that would not harm the fish was to strip the pond down clean it and ensure the flow through the filtration was as strong as possible. The filter had been in place for some 25 years and had airline fed down the bottom drain which restricted the flow. A Bakki shower was also fitted to add extra filtration and flow. So it was about optimising the system trying to correct the water and now it’ll be about seeing if they can keep the Jarva Moss at bay.
