    Ok so, here's the deal, I totally was not going to commit whatsoever....but your "lessons learned" face made me do it.
    That said, here's my comment, as a proud father of a new to me first harley-davidson (16sportster 48)
    THANK YOU FOR RECORDING THIS
    "Dorothy" I call her is only 5000mils old and am completely sure this info will come in handy...some day.
    Thanks again

    Try putting vaseline on the o-rings, easy to apply using a q-tip. That usually seals things very well, makes installation easier, and is inexpensive.

    • @im2yys4u81
      @im2yys4u81 2 роки тому +1

      Vaseline is a petroleum based product and contributes to destroying the integrity of the o-rings. A good substitute is vegetable oil or silicone spray. I personally use a product designed for lubing o-rings.

    Yep, ethanol fuel wreaks havoc on rubber seals and lines. Tip, you need to use Viton O-rings.

      Great job on the rebuild the check valve. Sorry that didn't fix it all the way. But now you know for sure. They probably both needed done to begin with. Got to get me one of those rolling chairs. Be good and be safe!!

    When I put them in I have a
    Snap On brand, socket 1/4 drive 3/16 that is almost 1an1/4 long.
    Oil the rings and push them in with the drive end of the socket.
    Top one first, then the larger diameter second, works great.. if you have an inspection mirror, you can leave the tank on the bike.theres no fuel in my valve unless the pump is running, it's a good idea to take out the fuel pump fuse when repairing fuel troubles..

  • @waydel1

    Good job on the check valve, just did this on my 08 roadglide also had to do fuel line prong as well, much easier with tank off.

    Good job on the vid and the fact that you work on your own, kudos. I know this vid was over a year ago, however, fuel tool makes the tool to help replace that rebuild kit so you don't need to remove your tank. Also, ya gotta lube the o-rings when you put them back. Just a thought, you may have damaged the o-rings as you put them in.

    Those pointed tools okay to remove the o rings, BUT not to put new in, they can nick o ring and cause leak. Us a really small flat head screwdriver. Type for model building or any type for precision work. Good video.

    Hey Sister, I don't know what to do now. My check valve leaks too, on my 2016 Switchback so after watching me some UA-cam, I have a 2008 883 too, so you know two birds with one stone right to save myself some time I'm taking a look at you doing your thing, GREAT!! But after I ordered the tool kit for the removal and replacement tools of the O-rings ( $98 for tools $11 for the O-rings) I see you did n uses a $98 kit, but you steal have a leak, so what do you think, maybe you put a hole in the O-ring with your tools or was it something else? Please keep up the Good work and have FUN, I am. Oh, and the Sportster's only problem is the Neutral light for now.

    • @BikerBabeBeth
      @BikerBabeBeth  3 роки тому +1

      I still had a small leak because I needed to replace both the fuel line and the check valve sides o rings. I used pick tools from harbor freight. They worked fine. No issues. Issue was I needed ANOTHER o ring on the fuel line side that connects to the check valve. Hope this helps. Fuel tool parts I used were MC 300 and MC 600-5 (these are the viton o rings needed to replace the fuel lines o ring). That was my issue. Good luck!
