I remember when warranties were just safeguards in “just in case” something breaks. Now warranties are pretty much necessary if you don’t want a vehicle sending you into the poorhouse.
Which is why financing one of these rolling heaps is an even bigger travesty. Not only are you paying out the nose for this fine engineering, you’re paying the banks interest, the insurance to cover it, and taxed for it all. When the day comes that it’s finally paid off, consider yourself lucky it even got you that far in one piece. Also all that money you just spent many long years of your working life to afford, has vanished into thin air thanks to depreciation.
@@markm0000 too true - I have a 2017 Powerstroke that I struggle whether or not I want to sell it. Been a great truck, only problem is the infamous upper oil pan leak. Aside from that, it’s never given us any issues. I did all of the “upgrades” to prevent huge repair bills, keep the oil clean and the fuel clean. Paid off, and I hope I can get at least 10 more years out of it. Cross your fingers, cause stuff just isn’t what it used to be.
@@mr8610 Unless you absolutely must have a turbo diesel pickup to move a very heavy payload on a gooseneck trailer for long distances without a CDL… it is not worth keeping at all. Get a gasser pickup instead. The only ones worth getting anymore are the V8s with no turbo that make around 400hp. The V6s and smaller with turbos are going to end up with the exact same problems as your Powerstroke. Too much engineering for the sake of it and not enough common sense. If you keep that truck for any longer it will be completely depreciated and things will break without a sense or reason. It will become a money pit like every other modern vehicle.
@@markm0000 and depreciation is part of any vehicle. Just goes with the territory. My diesel truck is keeping its value a lot better than my gas trucks did.
@@mr8610Me too. I had the crankcase breather filter replaced. The upper oil pan reseal is going to cost me $3K with the rear main seal too.

I have had personal dealings with this asshole "Bill at Powerstroke Help" . I wouldn't normally say this about someone in this field as I too am a tech but not diesel. He literally ripped off one of my customers to the tune of over $21,000. I called him personally and the arrogance of this guy is unmatched.
Poor Bill sunk alright, about 6 foot or so and now Mikey is coming out with some content of him working on 6.7's. And as I was viewing this particular video again the thought occurred to me that perhaps some of the Bigwhigs at Ford and The Stealerships got a case of Testicular Torsion and decided that you maybe educated the customer too much, leading to them dropping that bomb out of No Where on You. I felt so bad for you at the time,but I also knew that it could be a blessing in disguise, and that you would get it figured out and would be on your own and would thrive. The SS Diesel pump should be on all future 6.7’s

Once upon a time Bosch was the top of the line for diesel systems.
Their CP3 injection pump still is. Blame the OEMs for pressuring Bosch to cut prices to the point that they end up making junk to save a buck.
@@CHME171uppliers produce exactly what the manufacturer is willing to pay for. Manufacturers have a cost set for a supplier provided part and suppliers will build accordingly.
Suppliers are fully capable of building a pump and injectors that will run a million miles if the manufacturer is willing to invest in the quality. The injectors in my 12.7 Detroit are 24 years old and have over a million miles on them and are the original injectors.
Good Job Teech! As I said one night on your Pod Cast. For the average consumer when your on the road broke down watching your vehicle go into " The Black Hole" of a Dealership repair shop is upsetting. I've been on the " Other side of the Fence " and I'm proud of you for stepping up and letting folks know. My radio talk show " The CarGuys " in Syracuse NY for 20 years was often dealing with Service and Warranty issues. This week I did break off a yellow Diesel fuel diesel drain plug tab. But at least I'm checking the fuel once a month and changing filters early. Buc-ee's fuel stations are #1. NEVER a filthy Diesel handle or station. It's not a top tier Diesel fuel but those stations are impossible to find.
I 100% agree with you. I had one of our customers bring a 2018 6.7 f350 in with p0087. It also had a low boost code and a regen frequency code. Ford quoted them 21k for a fuel system, turbo and dpf service. I ran a high pressure fuel system test three times and it only failed once with the ids. Pulled the frp sensor, FP regulator and VCV and found no metal or rust. I found a weak cp4, a clogged oil separator filter which caused the regen problem and in turn caused the excess oil in the intake which gummed up the map sensor causing it to read low boost. The next f250 they brought was not so lucky. Glitter city on the vcv and a no start. Full fuel system kit
As a Ford Rep this is a concern I deal with almost every week and use the Ford produced job aids. It’s a source of dissatisfaction with all my fleets when a fuel system breakdown occurs. We should have a more robust design for the pump and be able to segregate the injectors from the pump in the event of a failure…without going aftermarket. Your info is always helpful. Thanks again

Thank you Super Rod , I’ve been through all the BS with CP-4 pump after 5 check engine lights 2 in different States . They finally changed the entire fuel system. . For my piece of mind I’m putting in the new S&S pump. I’ve learn a lot from your videos thanks
I had a horrible experience with a Ford Dealership just south of Indy. i lost the pump seal between the fuel side of the CP4 and the weep chamber. they stated that is was a fuel system contamination. the crazy part is that they had the Knowledge that i was a former Ford Engineer and was aware of the CP4 issues. they claimed to fully check out the system and condemned the fuel system. reality was they never checked anything. I obtained the Ford GSB, and had an independent check the system per the Bulletin, disassembled the pump and found no contamination, also took pictures of everything before any checking was done by the independent tech and found no witness marks from the alleged testing that was listed on the service invoice for diagnosis. this was even escalated to Ford Motor Company and they did not do anything. Now on the flip side, the issue was resolved with a $900 replacement pump and $250 line kit plus a lot of labor. but much less than the $13k that was diagnosed incorrectly.
Here is another thing to keep in mind. the CP4 has it's issues, and does not have a lot of headroom or tolerance for poor fuel, water in fuel or DEF in fuel, BUT Ford has shipped Millions of these pumps and the failure rate if you do not put DEF in the fuel is extremely low from a percentage standpoint, less than .01% from the data information i got form a few friends at Ford. Keep in mind that Ford has produced over 6 million of these engines that are in F250-F450 trucks and they also use these in Medium and HD trucks that are not in those production numbers. Also from that data from Ford, 90% of the failures are on Light Duty trucks aka F250-F450, or rather "Consumer Models" and are due to DEF Contamination. (or my take is Why did they put the DEF Fill right next to the Fuel Fill).
With all that said, My failure was at 425,000 miles on the truck. and not due to DEF or other fuel contamination, a seal just wore out. My issue is with the Dealership that did not PREFORM THE PROPER DIAGNOSIS STEPS.
Please move to St. Paul Mn and start your own shop. The nation needs more of you!!!!

Nice Video. I have an 8-year bumper-bumper warranty or 50000km miles on 2022 F250 6.7L. Hopefully, I won't have any problems with the fuel system. I always add fuel treatment when I fill up.
Back in late 02, I heard a story where an idiot bought a new 03 superduty w the 6.0L.
He then added every power boosting accessory he could find & one day, while
lighting up the tires off the line, it made a horrible noise & quit. It was towed to his
dealership & the mech popped the hood & immediately saw all the accessories. He
diag it & found it had a broken crank.
Warranty denied.

Guys just add Additives . And good diesel and your good. Hardly no issue with cp4 pumps in europe. Many Diesel vehicles are using the cp4.2 pumps Most of the issues are to do with water in the system. And gasoline mixed in with diesel.
I run hotshots every tank and go to the same stations that I'm comfortable with but still wery about the CP4, probably just going to do the Dr when I hit 100k and it goes in for weight loss.

I bought a marine fuel filter and put it before the factory filter. It really knows how to stop water. I get all parts, however they could give me any old rusty part from their desk

Muh 2016 is in local shop I trust getting DCR installed right now along with other maintenance items including FF and LOF. Picking her up Monday or Tuesday, it will be like a ton of bricks off my shoulders not worrying about that CP4, even with impeccable maintenance. Re: fuel, Costco out here has the renewable Top Tier diesel, use it 99% of the time and have seen zero water in monthly drains. Would like to hear comments about the renewable diesel. Top Tier and meets API standards. Does it really? Also Costco nozzles are 100% clean every time. Other stations have crap build-up on them, and when necessary have driven away.

Google Neste renewable diesel. It is diesel made from biological feedstocks, but using a different process, which makes it 100% compatible with all diesel engines. People claim it is cleaner (fuel filters last longer), and can be made with cloud points as low as minus 40 deg F. I don’t know if that is what he mentions Costco sells, but Neste has kind of taken over the phrase “renewable diesel”, so I assume so. I use it in both my trucks whenever I can, but it’s hard to find - only one station in my town of 100k people sells it. Sometimes its $.05 more per gallon than regular petro diesel, sometimes it’s a little cheaper.
I started my automotive career with FoMoCo in the 80s. Over my career I worked in three different Ford dealerships in two different states. That was a span of about ten years. After that I thought life would surely be better if I left the land of 90% warranty repair orders and went to Toyota which was then the land of 90% customer pay repair orders. Stayed there for another ten years until as a technician I had essentially gone as far as I was going to go. One thing that I learned the hard way was that dealerships earned the title of Stealerships by and large . I personally never worked for one that wasn’t extremely suspect in their dealings with their customers and employees. Part of the reason why was because the owners were generally far removed from what was going on in their businesses. As long as the GM produced the numbers that the owners were looking for details didn’t matter. That’s why most owners give about 10% of the company to a GM to handle the daily nasty stuff. I did work at one Toyota dealership that the owner was hands on into every single thing going on in his dealership and he was a slimy crooked SOB that was hated by every single employee in his company.
I finally left dealership life and went to work in a smaller independent shop that was owned and operated by a technician who watched his company like a hawk. I should’ve left much sooner in hindsight. I said all that to say that the term Stealership has been a hard earned title by dealerships. One Ford dealer was so crooked that FoMoCo swooped in one day with their audit team and busted them for all manner of warranty fraud. It went into the hundreds of thousands of dollars. We just showed up for work one morning and all the doors were locked and a sign said that it was closed until further notice. Maybe this is why FoMoCo is trying to completely eliminate their dealerships as they currently operate.
I can’t say how many dealerships are crooks vs. how many actually go to bat for their customers but I can say that out of the six that I have worked for they all had earned their reputation as being slimy.
A talented technician, especially in the diesel industry, should realize that the dealerships are paying him peanuts and that technician can go much further in reaching their financial goals by working for themselves. You’re a hired gun and that’s all. You may as well get paid what you’re worth in what can be a very expensive career choice to excel in.

i use an clear old glass salsa jar to drain my fuel water separator monthly, i have yet to see any water in it. then again i change fuel filters every 16000 KM, Every second oil change
I was refused access to my cores after mine left me sitting on the side of the road waiting for a tow truck and a neighbor to come fetch the trailer I was pulling. I asked if the tech had pulled the PCV to check for rust and couldn't get an answer on that either.
I now have S&S DPK 2.1to make sure I keep rolling...

I would have to say from having a bunch a friends that haul fuel, either corporate or owner operator, they haul everything within a day. One delivery may have a gas/diesel split, the next its all gas. Even tho the trailer is empty it still has a few gallons in either the pump or valves or both. Buddy that is a owner/operator says when he gets a load of asphalt oil he don't bother to flush the system, thats because you can't anywhere. That takes time and resources. Oh and the bio fuel, there isnt any science to the equal parts of raw diesel to bio. Measure the tank and go by a chart.
ARod you are the man! I just got rid of my 2015 6.7 due to DEF filter, which I was told going cost me about $5600 to fix. I had an extended warranty but was told by warranty folks that it was not covered because of it being a filter, and it should part of my maintenance. No more diesel for me.
Government is killing these diesels. Diesel, in the past, used to be viewed as a tank, tough, indestructible, overbuilt, fuel efficient, powerful and relatively low maintenance. Most of those qualities are history. I have a 2022 KR 6.7. I treat it like a queen so she doesn't blow a code, but I shouldn't have to. It's a 4 wheel drive space shuttle. But, it makes that diesel sound and puts a smile on my face when I drive it. In a couple years, I'll need to make a decision - put her on a diet to loose weight and get a boob job ....or divorce to look for a new cutie.
I think you mean DPF. DEF is urea, a liquid.
Think that's bad I have the extended warranty and just found out the DPF is not covered. Ford got out of it by calling it a " Filter" and Filters must be changed. I'm pondering, that the next Duty will be gas-

Adding to my comment, I'm a 6.0 powerstroke fan,throw 10,000 dollars at one, and it will be dependable, tow a trailer and burn the duals off back.

@brianbarclay4316 I agree, we all need to buy chunks of trucks, Ford chassis, Alison transmission with a cummins engine. For a mere 150,000 you can have a decent truck.
They must have had a bad run in the 2020 model year. I did like 5 fuel systems under warranty. No sign of contamitation on those trucks. A failed hp pump with no sign of contamitation is pretty rare folk!
well, so glad our feet has gas (32 ambulances) E-450 and 6 F-550's with the 6.8 v10 or the 21 up with the 7.3 v8 gassers. So much cheaper to fix and they can idle and not cause issues.
Curious what your fuel costs are doing with idling those 7.3's. How many hours/miles are you getting on those engines?
We run 6.7's due to road miles. 14000 lbs on hills and curves needs the torque!! Getting ready to remount a 2017 with 300K and 9000+ engine hours soon. Our 2022 6.7 with the 10 speed gets better fuel mileage than the 6 speeds... Our monthly maint is around $1000 per month. PM and breakdowns.
@@mro4440 Sorry about the late reply. We dont have a lot of hills and power has never been an issue. We have a 2021 e-450 with the 7.3 that has 66k on it and 5000 idle hours. We idle a lot! We have gotten rid of some with 25k idle hours with 300k on the v10 engines with very little problems. I like not having to deal with regens and def and 16 qts. of oil.

Wonderful presentation, enjoyed vary much,I had watched bearded ford techs channel on this specific matter ,man I feel for the guy,it looks as if the ford tech lied through his teeth, told that he had looked over parts taken from the motor and he didn't, and bearded had went to the dealership look over the motor notice the parts that were said were taken off for inspection were never taken off and examined at all by the tech ,and when bearded went to upper management they shined him on , WOW!

I try to run Motorcraft pm22 I live in every tank. Definitely been happy with the performance of the additive and hopefully it does help a little bit more with protecting the fuel system.
You can request any part anytime a repair is done unless a core return is required but the customer can still see the part before turn in. That law here in VA
I always keep old parts available until the vehicle leaves. 99% of customers never ask and don't care. The only time I've ever had customers take their old parts was when I was removing aftermarket parts and returning things to stock. I usually see the parts for sale on Facebook marketplace that night.
Bosch probably is a good manufacturer. The problem is the customer gives them a set of numbers. Engineering cost number and cost per unit number. This is most likely where the problem is.
Most auto manufacturers will pinch every penny until disaster happens.

Having a trusted professional technician is worth more than people think, trusted technicians, usually work for trusted dealerships. and people, TAKE CARE OF YOUR TECHNICIAN!! that can be the difference if you're not 100% sure it's warranty, your tech going to bat for you, and saving you tons of money!

I've lost all faith in the automotive industry as a whole. My 22 is the last newer vehicle I'll ever own. Everything is getting replaced by non motorcraft parts. I'm a die hard and they lost me. I can't be the only one.

i have a question about my f 550 6.7 2015 has 2 fuel tanks i am getting a fuel rail pressure warning on dash no codes and no loss of power replaced lift pump in front tank and fuel pump controll moduel still getting warning and fuel will not transfer to front tank from the rear tank any information would be greatly appricated

It’s amazing that when you buy a new diesel truck from the dealer, the diesel option is about 10k for the entire diesel engine. Then if something breaks, you tell me a piece of the engine is 15k to fix. Just put in a new engine is that’s the case for 10k.

@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod so is the engine 40k and the rest of the vehicle 60k. Seems a little expensive. My fiend just had to replace his diesel engine in his Jeep Grand Cherokee and it was 6k for a brand new crate motor installed. I have no idea what the actual cost is but 15k for a fuel system seems excessive, especially if it’s not covered.

@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod you would have to ask Ford. My dealer had it a month doing fords song and dance.
Transmission would shift 3rd to 1st as I was slowing down, with a 15000# trailer it was quit violent.
Dealer wanted a new transmission, everything Ford said to do didn’t help.
I called customer service to plead my case and I have never been treated so rudely. Came right out and said no on a transmission, I told her I drove Fords for over 35 years and told her I see a Ram or GM in my future, she said “do what you have to do”. Dealer continued to try to get a fix and Ford pretty much ignored them. I had to have a reliable truck and this one was going to break something in the drive line with those hard down shifts. Would do it even if I manually shifted it.
Something has changed at Ford, I never had any problems in the past with any kind of warranty work in the 35 years of ownership. Too bad, they lost a loyal customer.
It is bad enough when these trucks have engine issues. Now they also have transmission issues.
Where my problem comes from, is ford themselves know what percentage of these are bad fuel, and what percentage are pump failure.. yet they are perfectly happy with dealerships, that have gone a full year with zero warranty fuel systems, while another is picking up 40% as pump failures no fault of the customer, not to mention the number of failures after warranty but only 30 or 40k miles on truck.. and not for nothing ford is only too happy about it, else why have they not routed all fuel through a high pressure filter, they knew at the 2015 revision, heck they knew within six months of rolling out the 2011 6.7 , that total fuel system replacement was way too big a burden to throw on a guy who just bought a truck for anywhere between 60, and 200k dollars (upfitted mechanics body, small crane), and we buy these diesels because we’re looking to get 300k miles out of them, but over 300k miles is the investment even worth it, figure 3 egr coolers, and the extra 10k the engine costs, that’s 25k alone, now add your fuel and oil change over the cost of gas., then toss on top the price of diesel currently, and most likely for the foreseeable future, unless we can reason with climate alarmism, as if earths weather patterns and tempatures haven’t been changing since the dawn of time.. “green house gases” yup been proven to increase AFTER tempatures increase, not that’s gasses are causing it, they are a symptom of it.. anyhow we could just take the 7.3 gasser, beat the snot out of it, and just slap a brand new engine in, vs a cp4 pump? And you can overhaul your beat engine and toss it in a hot rod..
...maybe you need to switch to EV

My old 08 was denied HPP due to "bad fuel". Ford denied me everything was rust was found on the pump. My adviser stated this gatoraid color fuel is B2 and the apple juice is B5. and I have apple juice color fuel in the truck which carries more water then B2 fuel. I told them I could not control what the station sells. I was still denied. I was able to get in contact with a ford corp engineer who agreed with me and not with the dealership. Told me to call him a week later. I did and was told to submit my maintenance records. I did. When I bought the truck the rep told me do everything by 50% so I did. Oil changes every 5k and fuel filters every 10k or once a year. By that standard I had changed almost double the recommend fuel filters. Because of that, my repair was covered. That Engineer saved my almost $11,000. I thanked him almost every year till he retired.
The 6.7 is a BEAST, crazy powerful… after hearing that there’s a roulette style chance I will have to replace my fuel system at 14-16k, I’ll keep my 6.0! Thanks for the videos my brother, I’ve learned a lot from you!

Had a 6.7 2 weeks gave it back have a 6.2 gas 7.3 powerstroke and a 6.0 powerstroke now I'm good untill we all go electric MANDATE 😆🤷🏼♂️
If I woke up tomorrow and there was a 6.0 in my garage (instead of the 6.7) I'd be throwing myself off of the bay bridge.
Ask to see the parts and hope they are actually your parts...no that doesn't happen.

I've been watching UA-cam videos for about 20 years now, and this is probably the FIRST video that I have watched in whole, without skipping.
My truck is currently getting a complete fuel system at a local Ford dealership, but I'm thankful my insurance is covering the repair. If they didn't cover it, it'd be costing me $12,000. 😮

I cannot justify spending nearly $100K on a truck that uses such a crappy CP4 fuel pump , & still have to spend more money on aftermarket stuff to mitigate disaster! So glad I went 7.3 Godzilla which has been flawless so far at 19K miles .

The last time I took my 2016 6.7 to the dealership it was supposed to get new fuel filters and an oil change. they changed the oil but not the filter, which could have been an honest mistake, but they tried to justify that the old filter came from them by the numbers that were printed on it, which I know was not true because I found a picture on the internet showing a Ford Motorcraft filter with the same numbers on it so I am sure those were just some manufacturing numbers. My next service time I did the work myself and when I changed the fuel filters they looked old, so I suspect they did not change those either! After changing the filters again myself on the next schedule, I could tell they had very little noticeable buildup on them, which I again believe supported my suspicions that the fuel filters had not been changed. I have been doing my own regular scheduled service work since and dread the thought of having a problem that will force me to take it into a dealership for repair.

Sad dealers are replacing fuel systems just for p0087, like fuel rails, hp pumps, or leaking fuel injectors won’t cause that

This is because ford dealers are scared of that warranty charge back. If there’s no rust, varnish, gas, or def then it’s warranty. No way to prove it was there before if it’s not there now. And that came out of an FSEs mouth years ago and I have followed it since.
Great Video Arod, I always try to know to the best of my knowledge what's wrong with my truck, so I don't get hosed when I go to the dealer. A lot of that knowledge comes from watching your videos. Can't thank you enough for sharing your craft with us.
The pessimist in me says that more than a few dealerships have a some parts laying around that “someone’s” intentionally placed in water to look like the GSB pictures. When you ask to see the parts already taken off your truck, you see the doctored ones. Hate to be that guy, but with dealerships struggling to stay afloat and with those prices, it’s not beyond the pale.

Or unless it comes in on a tow with a P0087, with the WIF light and you pull a fuel sample from the housing and it's full of DEF. Pretty straight forward at that point lol
Harley Davidson has same issue..crap oil pumps on the M8 and the twin cams have crap cam chest. S&S is a must before they fail outta warranty.
As a prev tech who now does warranty claims this is good information for all! As i get alot of times when asking for diag info, "we got a P**** it needs ******" well what happend that set the code? What actually failed in the system! And as a 6.0 owner myself i know the i must find what had failed and why before looking at parts! There are great techs out there that can be correct from prev knowledge but when i was tearing something down to make repairs i always wanted to understand why and if there was an option out there to make it better.
Had local dealership give me a fuel sample they took out of the company truck in a gateraid bottle. Then told me the fuel was bad because diesel fuel isn't green and therefore the fuel system wouldn't be under warranty.
As much as I like my 2020 super duty The dealer support will be the reason I go back to dodge , Unfortunately service writers give the dealerships a bad name.

This is a concern because of the issues with the CP4. I did an oil (Amsoil, filters too.) change and Motorcraft fuel filter (s) change prior to setting out. Rip all that emissions crap off and you’ve got a solid runner that just needs routine maintenance. 4 years of ownership and haven’t had a single issue.
@@mr8610 if only it was emissions , like this video states you got high pressure pump problems. I know the emissions are a huge one but everything is expensive on these haha
