@ I have purchased the new Acasis Tb5 enclosure. Their recommendation for ssd includes the 990 Pro so I did get a 4Tb one. I think most of the firmware issues affected the 2Tb ssd, though I’m unsure. The one I have purchased was made in 2024 so I’m hoping it has the latest firmware. We shall see how it performs. I’ll use the Samsung sw to monitor but also Disk Drill to use SMART monitor to check on life an tbw.
@@allanpennington do you know if the 990 pro would work with a macbook air m1? Having issues with disconnects during file transfer with a wd sn850x and satechi 3.2 usb c enclosure. Thermals seem reasonable so doubt throttling. Drive is recognised but issue only when transferring larger files
@@Ren-oc7jg I’m no expert sorry but have seen YT vids about memory buffer sizes and issues related to data transfer speeds both of the ssd and apples ssd internal drives. Also usb 3 May be a bottleneck and the high end ssd you have really exceeds that usb connection. Not sure if that MacBook taps out at usb3 but if it has thunderbolt 3 or 4 maybe it would be faster. Also the enclosure for the ssd can also impact depending on which chipset it uses.
What enclosure do you use
So many bad Amazon reviews for this drive and in particular easy failure and firmware issue.

@@allanpennington yeah I'm thinking its the macbook air ports / power supply negotiation or the enclosure isn't capable of sufficient heat dissipation
