I think the big concern is that jobs will go and billionaires will get richer. We really need to look at ways to distribute the wealth that will be created by these technologies.

I have been working with computers for more than 40 years, so I saw the path from 8 bit, 16 bit to whatever it is we have now. A colleague of mine, from around 30 years ago remarked: “It doesn’t matter how fast the hardware is, there will always be software that requires more power”. And indeed, I am working on a multi GHz multi-core laptop with lots of memory, but it’s still not fast enough for Windows 11. And that just the operating system! So I am not impressed with all the Nvidia stuff. In 10 years time we will laugh at it.

Just so you know, the 5070 has 12Gb VRAM. It will not surpass the 4090, but I'll let this one slide since it's kinda past the point.

I stumbled on Runway, which looks like it can handle this.
It'll take an image of a character, which could be rendered from a 3d model but importantly it's not taking a 3d model.
It seems to need to be able to recognize a "human face". That can flex to some degree but I tried it with cartoon of a typical gray alien and it didn't take.
Then it'll take your video, complete with audio, and re-enact that with the character.
It's very convincing.
In my case the video was pretty straight forward. Just me, right in front of the camera. I'm not sure it would handle more complex scenes or scenes with multiple people.

Yeah ... Too fast. 100 giga-neurons and 100 tera-synapses at 30Hz clock speed for the human brain. That's peta operations with the brain on full tilt.
The GTX 5090 crosses that compute line... The AI compute box from Nvidia archives the whole-ass compute power for a human.
And the 5090 is cheap because they're dumping chips. Compute has been bounded by the death of Moore's law since 2010... Next gen compute will be optical and produced by the same foundries... We'll never even notice the transition. It'll just be 1000x more powerful once the current stockpiles run out.
