I've always loved these trucks. I still remember back in the late 90s my dad bought himself a brand new red 1995 Silverado. He loved that truck, always kept it clean and waxed and at every opertunity he would rip huge burnouts. Good times.
And that is why Rabbit is the expert. Great job on spotting the trend ahead of time and spending the time and effort to educate yourself to best understand the market and valuation.
I bet ive parted out/built 100 of these things. You hit the nail on the head with flaws to look for! I once parted out eight to builds one short wheel base 2wd crank windows vynil floor matts rust free truck with the work truck grill and single headlights.
Currently restoring an OBS!! '92 GMC. It was my parents' truck, been parked for about 8 years now. Single cab, long bed, 4WD work truck, 2 tone blue. She is *rough*. About the only original parts when done will be the engine and cab, one fender, the hood and the grill. We got a beautiful frame off a '94 out of West Virginia that we just put up on blocks today. Got a pretty clean bed and drivers fender at really great prices. Brakes and suspension parts are gonna be replaced for reliability. We have a 350 in the parts truck that'll get rebuilt to go in mine. I cannot wait to get it done!!
My neighbor has an OBS work truck that's been parked in his yard for 15 years. It's covered in moss and lichen and everything else a car collects. I'm going over there right now to offer to buy it from him. I'll get it running, put new tires on it and drive it with the moss and mold "patina" 😎
You speak and I listen! You’ve helped me make money and I’m just up the mountain in NC. Tried to book you for a car meet a while back. I’m going to have to take the trip to The upstate and see you! Keep it up. OBS for days!
Literally, my grandpa has a Corvette and a Cadillac, but he still has his OBS step side extended cab short bed, and he drives it all over if the weather isn't nice
I love my 96 chevy tahoe. I bought it from my uncle for 600 bucks. Family discount. Its blue over bronze paint. Runs like a champ. Wish i could show you pictures. Great video Rob.
I love my GMC Sierra..... It’s a 1998, third door extended cab, two wheel drive with over 215,000 miles and I love it!!! I bought it and everything works... I do need to do the door pins and bushings desperately!!!
Love it Rabb! Nailed all that bleep you said about these trucks. It’s worth it now to pay the money to the ones that kept them and the ones like you who keeps them going. BTW, you need a belt sponsor,? pullin up ya britches bud...
Great video. Another tip, alot of people will take a magnet to look for "bondo" that doesn't always work, a magnet can still 90% of the time (In my expirements) attract to the metal underneath.
my first truck was a 90 Sierra ext cab short box with a 305 ! I still to this day miss that truck. had 190, xxx and that 305 would still smoke those tires for a good 100 to 150 ft without issue !!! and it was Blue and Silver two tone with a blue interior
I have a 1992 OBS extra cab 2x4 350sbc tbi 4l60e i am in Australia, mine came from joe mcpherson GEO Reo Irwin California imported 1996 and changed to right hand drive 1996, i just put a brand new gearbox in it with a 600hp kit and i have a brand new 400 sbc with vortec heads on it to go right in 10.5:1 comp Flat tappet hyd cam and roller rockers. holley sniper goes on in december. Dead stock inside but will get all new original bits to tidy up. Took my factory steering wheel to Bangkok while on holliday, got it recovered in leather, looks beautifull.
I had an OBS truck I bought new in 1991. Standard cab short box, 350 V8. Paid 16,740 dollars out the door. Drove it 197,000 miles. I sold it after it was going to need its 2nd transmission. Radio and cassette didn't work, A/C was shot, and I had just installed the 5th water pump. No rust. It had spent all its life in King County, Washington. But knowing what I know now I sure wish I had kept it, and restored it. Oh well! I kept it for 24 years.
The Z71/4x4s often times have burgled front fenders from 285 tires (on the factory suspension) jumping up and pushing them out. Also, it will pull the metal wheel well stripping down. Speaking from experience of course.
My first day on a Carmax type used car lot I got a 94 454SS to detail. I steamcleaned the engine and went to get a $.99 Whopper at the local BK running dealer tags in downtown Nashville. It wasn't fast..but it would burn the tires until u let off the gas!!! Great times.
Hi Rabbit! I hope you had a great day sir. Today I even started making a machete out of an old leaf spring from a 70 Chevy pickup! P.S Have a 97 K1500 Z-71. Dad got it for $800 few months ago. The interior needs a few things. The rear bumper needs replaced. Got like four ball joints, al the tie rods and sleeves and new torsion bar rods and bushings on amazon from Detroit Axle Store? $120! Can you believe that price? Anyways I learned how to change a rag joint on that truck last weeks.
Damn Rabbit, why ya gotta throw shade at Amiri King? LOL. He's been making a comeback. Love them old Square bodies and obs's. Keep up the great videos!!!
My uncle here in Daytona Beach sells the hell out these I keep buying these 1500 - 2500. 1-2 days later 7-10k mind u these are not the quality of the ones in this video but cool old trucks... Keep rappin rabbit
Very nice C10. The OBS was still made up through 2000 for the 3/4 ton and up. After that in 2001 is when they came out with the Silverado for the 3/4 ton and up even though they came out with the NBS in 1999. I do disagree with you about long beds. I don't have any use for them but I'm always using long beds for hauling. I always have a toolbox in my long beds which turns it into a short bed. Now if I put a tool box in a short bed my hauling capacity shrinks even smaller. Whenever I see someone converting a long bed to a short bed it makes me cringe.
I got an 89 short bed, step side, 305 v8 5speed with buckets and a console. I'm going old school rat rod with it, got a stout 350 to drop in and it should be a fun truck once done.
Yes sir thats a quality guide to use when shopping for a OBS truck. Let me ask this remember those Choo choo customs trucks where the paint faded from top to bottom. Had the factory fiberglass body kit around the fenders and step boards. Are those trucks a rarity or worth anything? Just remembering back in the day passing them and loved those trucks.
Love the videos Rabbit! Catseye have been holding their value, do you think that they will explode and skyrocket like the OBS? I wonder if 99-02 will become worth more one day, as everyone here puts Catseyes front clip swaps on them here in Ontario.
I have had a few stashed away for a few years. I finally bring my '97 black on grey interior ext cab 2wd out of storage to sell it, and some jerk cuts the catalytic convertor off it! Man I'm half temped just to put it back in storage haha
On point with the pins and bushings and doors, but yes very replaceable. The 98 2500 my old man has got to 300k miles and the engine wasn't bad, but the 5speed was dead.
I bought a clapped ‘90 a year ago for $900. Manual swapped with some of the sketchiest wiring I’ve ever seen. It runs flawlessly though. My buddy discovered that it’ll start without a key in it.
Love the fact that these trucks were so mass produced for so long that the aftermarket even today is still endless...I've got 3 '92 ecsb 4x4s. My favorite one is the one that I rescued off a crusher trailer. Blown motor blown trans, paint was crap but interior was good, body was straight as an arrow and zero rust...today that little 1/2 ton sits on 7 inch lift, manual trans swap and a 454 with goodies under the hood! Love your videos rob!
Hi Rob, I love your videos and your storytelling style and I appreciate the information on the Chevrolet OBS trucks. But guess what, there is another OBS truck that will someday eclipse the Chevy and that is Ford. I'm talking about the run that started with generation 8 in 1987 and ran until 1996. The reason it will eclipse the Chevy is it is a better looking truck with much more character in it's lines. The Chevy was beautiful in the square body and also in the generation before but the generation you are talking about will fizzle because it is too plain. It does have the best looking short bed truck I will admit. But this OBS truck craze will multiply because the government has ruined all trucks being made today and all OBS trucks will become highly desirable.. In my opinion the best looking truck ever made is the one I own, an 88 long bed. It is great looking from an artistic point of view because the bed and the cab plus front end are in harmonious balance. Especially mine because it is a four wheel drive sitting level on a set of 31x10.5 x 15's. It was a one owner truck and has just over 100K miles running a 300-6 and a bulldog four speed. It has a factory split manifold and duals and my (admittedly) amateur eye tells me that one day it will rate right up there with the Chevy short beds.
Always check the rear cab mount for rust no matter what condition and check the front fuel tank crossmember for rust the bed leaks water onto the crossmember and rusts it out very bad
I've got my 5th obs I'm building up how I want its a 99 hdk1500 was a fire cheif truck has the 3/4 ton suspension 1 ton rear end but is still 6 lug. They last forever. My 3rd one I bought was a beautiful 98 extended cab c1500 silverado. It was a technical 1 owner. Guys dad paid cash money for it brandnew then passed away a week later the son got it and took care of it. Was fully loaded leather and everything wasn't even a scratch on it not even in the bed. I took gym mats and put in bed of it when hauling stuff to fleamarket to sell. Paid 7 for the truck. An old man asked me bout selling that truck every weekend at flea market. Finally after him asking a price for the 100th time I told him like 12000 thinking it would scare him off. He showed up an hour later with cash in hand.
My dad has a 1990 Silverado sport with a manual, clean truck 100k original miles, only problems are the faded headlights and faded clear coat, new paint job and lowering kit, this thing is set
I have had several obs loved them all I would buy another one if I had the money my daughter cried when I sold my first one it was an 88 she said goodbye trucker she was about 5 then she is 21 now and she still loves them and so do.I
im a canadian with a 99 obs tahoe that has no rust at all and over 350,000 kms on the ticker. second trans and transfer case but original 5.7 vortec engine.... thats recently developed oil pressure issues so i might have to part with the old girl
Hey what’s your opinion on s10 mini trucks think they will shoot up a bit for clean ones like OBS’s Chevy luvs haven’t really shot up but you think any box s10s and round body’s are gonna be worth a good bit one day ?
Man, I know this place! Great "Helpful Hints From Heloise" episode (typed in jest) for anybody getting into these or even just looking at any vehicle and they have no real clue of what to look for
First place to check, frame behind front left wheel, and left rear shock bracket thats where it rusts first and avoid the 1995 4l60. One year only transmission
I dunno about Rabbits opinion on long bed trucks. If they are in similar condition to the short bed trucks shown, not fleet spec white, they will still sell for good $$$$. I know on 1/2 tons everybody wants the reg cab/short box/4wd with a lot of options. Well if you get a grandpa 1/2 ton, well optioned with 8' bed, I'd still buy it.
Exception to the long bed rule... OBS slammed Crew Cab, long bed phantom dually I remember from an issue of my dads Truckin magazine. I thought it was the coolest thing ever when I saw that.
Hey Rob I was wondering if You ever made the deal on the Centurion and truck in California. I have a close friend that has a 96 1500 crew cab centurion with all the certifications it was a barn find their cool trucks.
F I was listening properly, did I not hear you mention the major change the obs era occurred in 96, such being the fuel ejection system modified to a mpfi from the TBI system, except for the v6 4.3L engine. .
that bad boy is "cleaner than a preacher's suit"
thanks Rabbit
You missed showing the retractable under hood light! Love the OBS!
I've always loved these trucks. I still remember back in the late 90s my dad bought himself a brand new red 1995 Silverado. He loved that truck, always kept it clean and waxed and at every opertunity he would rip huge burnouts. Good times.
I always love when I find a good closing door, good indication of the overall care of vehicle over its life. Even when you find the in a pasture.
New game, every time Rabbit says “ you gotta think about it “ take a drink......
That’s just a fancy way of describing shotgunning beers as fast as you can.
So drunk in 10 minutes
Or when he says “let me stop this story and start this one”
Everytime he refers to himself in 3rd person
And that is why Rabbit is the expert. Great job on spotting the trend ahead of time and spending the time and effort to educate yourself to best understand the market and valuation.
Was watching Ed on Vinwiki and Rob popped up. Sorry Ed got to go!!!
Lol me too!
I bet ive parted out/built 100 of these things. You hit the nail on the head with flaws to look for! I once parted out eight to builds one short wheel base 2wd crank windows vynil floor matts rust free truck with the work truck grill and single headlights.
I got my obs for 4800 when u first started talking OBS Chevy truck . I've been offered 10k for my truck and it ain't going anywhere anytime soon .
I’ve been looking into buying an OBS so you honestly read my mind!
Great advice as always, Rabbit 👍👍 There's so many things to look out for on em that it gets worrisome sometimes lol.
Have a good'n y'all!
My neighbor has an OBS work truck that's been parked in his yard for 15 years. It's covered in moss and lichen and everything else a car collects. I'm going over there right now to offer to buy it from him. I'll get it running, put new tires on it and drive it with the moss and mold "patina" 😎
What is lichen?
You speak and I listen! You’ve helped me make money and I’m just up the mountain in NC. Tried to book you for a car meet a while back. I’m going to have to take the trip to The upstate and see you! Keep it up. OBS for days!
That red obs is mint 👌
And those chrome wheels!! RPO N98 I think, kind of rare to find those.
@@DNR5586 yessir.
Your awesome Rabbit !!! I bought my white 98 xcab stepside because of your story about red hot..Thanks Rabbit
I listened to you about these trucks and I’m buying them all!!!!
Great seeing ya today rob!
Thanks for heads up on these trucks I want one one of these days
Literally, my grandpa has a Corvette and a Cadillac, but he still has his OBS step side extended cab short bed, and he drives it all over if the weather isn't nice
I love my 96 chevy tahoe. I bought it from my uncle for 600 bucks. Family discount. Its blue over bronze paint. Runs like a champ. Wish i could show you pictures. Great video Rob.
Damn Rob, ya shittin on my long bed man 😂
I daily mine so the long bed comes in handy quite often.
I love my GMC Sierra..... It’s a 1998, third door extended cab, two wheel drive with over 215,000 miles and I love it!!!
I bought it and everything works...
I do need to do the door pins and bushings desperately!!!
A lot of good tips today, thanks for the video.
The knowledge gained from these videos can be summed from a old rabbit stand up quote: “whole lot less mess, whole lot more huntin”
I have four, I love them. The Surburban for 99 was a OBS.
my first truck was a 90 Sierra ext cab short box with a 305 ! I still to this day miss that truck. had 190, xxx and that 305 would still smoke those tires for a good 100 to 150 ft without issue !!! and it was Blue and Silver two tone with a blue interior
That's a clean one. Bought my 3rd one a few years back for cheap.

Love the video and it would be nice if you did a obs 2nd gen dodge video
I've got 1 90 2 door Sierra slammed red stepside power locks windows love that Ole truck no rust
The Z71/4x4s often times have burgled front fenders from 285 tires (on the factory suspension) jumping up and pushing them out. Also, it will pull the metal wheel well stripping down. Speaking from experience of course.
I think these are the most talked about trucks lol their good trucks 🔥🤘🏼
Missouri has a few for sale
Man this video was awesome!
love the obs short beds i had a 89 short bed stepside 4x4 light metalic blue
Sweet looking truck
My first day on a Carmax type used car lot I got a 94 454SS to detail. I steamcleaned the engine and went to get a $.99 Whopper at the local BK running dealer tags in downtown Nashville. It wasn't fast..but it would burn the tires until u let off the gas!!! Great times.
Rob don't feel bad. Any great condition OBS truck or any truck in great condition in the Midwest have long been sought after!!!!!!
Awesome just the video I wanted to see literally
Hi Rabbit!
I hope you had a great day sir.
Today I even started making a machete out of an old leaf spring from a 70 Chevy pickup!
P.S
Have a 97 K1500 Z-71. Dad got it for $800 few months ago. The interior needs a few things. The rear bumper needs replaced.
Got like four ball joints, al the tie rods and sleeves and new torsion bar rods and bushings on amazon from Detroit Axle Store? $120!

I HAVE A RED 95 STEPSIDE 5.7, LOVE THIS TRUCK.
the glass headlights look good in a 95 GMC grille
I’m so early the roof of the mini van hasn’t got a big ol hole in it
Very nice C10. The OBS was still made up through 2000 for the 3/4 ton and up. That red truck is extra nice!
I got an 89 short bed, step side, 305 v8 5speed with buckets and a console. I'm going old school rat rod with it, got a stout 350 to drop in and it should be a fun truck once done.
The interior on the Evel truck is super clean.
keeping it real brother , rock on
I personally don't believe you called it I truly believe you created it singlehandedly. 👍

They also made the 3/4 tons till 2000. I just got my dads Z71 5 speed 4x4. I haven't seen too many of those
That is a very nice truck...im looking for 1 myself...
Love the videos Rabbit! Catseye have been holding their value, do you think that they will explode and skyrocket like the OBS? I wonder if 99-02 will become worth more one day, as everyone here puts Catseyes front clip swaps on them here in Ontario.

I love my 1990 GMC Step Side single cab .....
Thanks for the info on how to buy one. Can you do one for a square body chevy?
10:30 sharp , Welcome to RUC 🖤
Just picked up a 2 tone 97 z71 reg cab short bed!!
I bought a clapped ‘90 a year ago for $900. Manual swapped with some of the sketchiest wiring I’ve ever seen. It runs flawlessly though. My buddy discovered that it’ll start without a key in it.
Well..Matt definitely got his cardio for the week on the OBS Walk
Love my 95 man......246,000 on her and still sweet as ever,4x4 Black, short bed,350 throttle body.

Yeah, you keep dreamin pal. 😂
I recently bought a 91 gmc c1500 from my buddy 350 sbc lowered it and daily driving it now strait lil truck one spot of minor rust in the cab corner
Lube those hood springs!
Hey rob, I love the channel! What's your view on a OBS step side?
@robpitts u got to do a video on the 2door tahoe/Yukons

I have had several obs loved them all I would buy another one if I had the money my daughter cried when I sold my first one it was an 88 she said goodbye trucker she was about 5 then she is 21 now and she still loves them and so do.I
I really like the stance on the Red Truck. How much, and how is it Lowered?
Personally I like the look of the 88 better with the glass headlights better
I have an 88 2500 heavy half 4x4 that my dad bought new.still got it
im a canadian with a 99 obs tahoe that has no rust at all and over 350,000 kms on the ticker. second trans and transfer case but original 5.7 vortec engine.... thats recently developed oil pressure issues so i might have to part with the old girl
Really!!!!
Rabbit should make a book "how to buy obs chevy 101."
Hey what’s your opinion on s10 mini trucks think they will shoot up a bit for clean ones like OBS’s Chevy luvs haven’t really shot up but you think any box s10s and round body’s are gonna be worth a good bit one day ?
I own a 93 stepside chyanne and it was converted by travel time conversions which used to do conversion vans is it worth anything

My first car was a 96 Sierra single cab short bed 4wd with the 4.3l v6 in that same red I wish I had the money to buy that truck right now
It’s already sold lol
OBS 101 with Professor Rabbit ❤️
I had a 95 ext cab I wish I kept super clean and strait no rust under 75k miles.
Hey Rob I was wondering if You ever made the deal on the Centurion and truck in California. I have a close friend that has a 96 1500 crew cab centurion with all the certifications it was a barn find their cool trucks.
F I was listening properly, did I not hear you mention the major change the obs era occurred in 96, such being the fuel ejection system modified to a mpfi from the TBI system, except for the v6 4.3L engine.
.
My 98 has 365k miles pretty clean no rust do half to do some body work but ac blows ice cold
Rob, I may need your help with the transporter insurance company on the 280zx. No return calls on my calls. Maybe you can lean on them a bit?
Thanks!
Hey Rob I have a 98 obs if my window is cracked the doors close nice but if the windows are closed the door won't close any ideas thanks rabbit
