That was great Les! Loving your channel. I have never used tail tools like that before. Those little tools would save me about 10min skinning. Thanks for the great tips!
Good stuff! Another nice video! I wished our hides were worth the effort but here in northeast Texas you would do good to get $8-$10 for a nice well skinned male!
A few time Trond! :) My brother and I skinned 624 in 10 days back in 1995.....plus helped put them all up... :) Ugghh, now I feel old! Thanks for watching and commenting! LJ
If you shoot some really nice ones Matthew, it just gives you a little more bargaining power once you show up to the fur buyer with them skinned. Should net you about $5 more and possibly quite a bit more than that. Thanks again Matthew for your comment.
Actually a damn good idea. I reckon a fur buyer might have his/her own method and standards. Thanks! I'm going to ask the local buyers if they'll take them on the carcass.
Hi, Les, I subbed. If I want suspense, I can always come to your channel and sit in breathless urgency for you to pull that trigger! That was a beautiful female in great condition and you made skinning her look easy. Do you tan the hides or have it done? And what do you do with the meat? My family are going to establish a farm where we'll have to learn these skills. Thanks in advance for answering my questions!♡ Sue (I realize you might have vids that would answer my questions but it's going to be awhile before I can get to them and through them!)
Great skinning tutorial. Better than Stu's from CCO imo. And that was nice plump yote with some good looking fur. You made a good point about the dull knife. The sharp one is good for certain cuts, but anytime you are slicing large portions of hide from the carcass you want a semi dull knife so it doesn't accidentally slice open the hide, which can be delicate on the underside and armpit area especially.
You are totally correct on the sharp vs. dull knife! Once you skin alot of them, you understand that. Some people do not understand that aspect of it. :) Thank you for watching PS and for your feedback! Have a good day!! LJ
Great video. What do you do with the skins once you cool them down or freeze them. Do you dry them out for any personal use or do you sell them? What happen if you can't sell them? What do you do with them?
Hey Randy, yes I do if I am going to be skinning alot of them. If I am going to skin them, Just spray them quickly after you get them in the back of the pickup and the fleas will all be dead when you go to skin them. Thanks Randy! LJ
maculifrons, I have had alot of hides tanned over the years and actually in the next couple days I will be showing some of the garments that I have had made from my coyotes and other furbearers. Thanks for watching and commenting. LJ
Great video. Very professional skinning and explanation. You just forgot to describe that under-skin smell of yote that drives me crazy. Thanks again for the video.
I'm like you Les, having the right tool for the job makes it a lot easier. On a hot day it doesn't take long for a coyote to start getting green belly. Good job and thanks for sharing. Later
Greetings from Manitoba, Canada! Great video Les. Been doing lots of hunting this fall and have a couple of your calls which work great including calling in a few wolves as well. Getting hard into RAM power snaring now so cant hunt as much.
Great Vid, Les. I really enjoy your down to earth, genuine approach to your videos. Dont change that. Folks like seeing real people doing real things, and not make believe, non-realistic hunts and results. I know its a lot of work, but you do a great job.
Great video les just curious if you get more for them when you skin them I take mine to a guy that buys them but I'm not sure if he will give me more for skinning them
Thank you Dennis....but I am happy that you now have seen it! :) I will be doing videos on how to finish the coyotes once you skin them as well, but just have not gotten to it yet. As well as raccoon skinning videos as well. Thanks again! LJ
But by pulling down like that takes all the tissue, fat and sometimes flesh. If you ran your knife along the tissues as you cut while gently pulling down it would leave most if not all of the tissues and fat on the body and save you the trouble of having to flesh the hide because it won't have anything left to flesh. It will take longer, quite a bit longer then ten minutes but it will save you the trouble of dealing with all the leftover tissue on the hide. Not trying to say that you're doing it wrong, but my family's never skinned game the regular way before and it makes for a cleaner hide.
I totally agree Daniel! Whenever you are skinning a coyote that has alot of "fat" like these coyotes had, the fleshing is usually really easy. Whenever a coyote does not have much fat, you can just take your knife and trim some of the thicker portions of meat of and let the rest dry on the skin. It actually makes the hide look "more full" and thicker if you do not flesh them clean. Thanks again and I am glad that you watched my video. LJ
I sell alot of my coyote on the carcass in the winter and also put some of them up. If I get a nice one, I will have it tanned. Thank you MrMichailiuk for watching and commenting. LJ
Vernon, what is wrong with it? There are several formats that we "can" edit in, however 70%+ of all viewers on UA-cam are using a mobile device, so in order to not have the "buffering" we try to go with the best format. If you are trying to watch from a television, it might be blurry simply because we did not edit in a high enough quality. Please let me know what device you are watching it on. Been hunting and skinning animals for years, I appreciate the tip with the steel (you used your camera tripod piece)... Always have struggled with that part of the animal. Goes to show you can always learn something !
One skinned and now only 15 more to go, but wait that's what brothers are for right? Enjoying your videos Les, keep making them n I'll keep watching them. Oh and thank goodness for Havalon knives!
@@everythingoutdoorswithlesj4975 Man I've done my first two coyotes and messed them both up. I have the havalon and love it but I still made a few holes to deep. You made that look easy. Thanks for the video, I have been told try to do them warm it makes it a lot easier. May I ask what caliber and what ammunition you are using? doesn't appear to have much damage to the pelt and no pass through.
Nice information, because in my area where I live, there are millions of Coyotes. But nobody has an idea what to do with them. Kindly in form us, what is the next process after we skin a Coyote. In order to use the fur.

Paul Martinez he has mentioned many times in other videos that he uses the Hornady 52gr bthp match. I believe he quoted a 3680 ftps velocity for his hand load.
Nice job there Les... I use the Alaskan knives ( cub bear ) and couldn't ask for a better caping knife it stays sharp through the whole process, been using it for years form buffalo to furbearers. I also use a medium size fork of a mule deer buck to get those elbows a large one works as well. This is a great refresher vid and informative for the novice too. Thanks
LOL yes you can use one knife. If you are handy with a steel, then sharpening one knife is a good thing. Thanks for watching Noah and have a Merry Christmas! LJ

You'll have to flesh regardless if you want to put up your coyote correctly. Fur buyers will skin your ass if you bring in fleshed fur
