I literally watch this video 3-4 times per year! It is incredible! Les you have always been an idle of mine!! I am a dedicated coyote hunter and you are the gold standard to me! Cheers from Canada eh 🍻🇨🇦🤘
above and beyond, take them face to face, perfect ..... just plain perfect...... after 65 years of hunting you've inspired me. dear...where did you put my good rifle ?
I never get tired of watching this video Les and came back to watch it again to look at your coyote hat just see if it had fur inside and out since I plan on making me one. Interesting enough I gathered more info on this hunt since perspectives change over time. No I can't say I've been in -30 degree hunting coyotes but I have in -10 degree by myself which I don't recommend, you're so right about dressing warm. Funny thing I once experienced skinning a coyote in a tree at 10 below temperature and the hide came off so easily as it froze stiff as it came off... I was about a mile from the truck and didn't want to carry the added weight or drag so skinning it right there was best. I was surprised at how comfortable I was despite the cold but had a weird sense of the danger and now limit myself on solo hunts.
Rory-Not Gail: Way to get it done. This has to be one of the best videos. Siting, waiting, and watching a travel corridor at sunrise is the way I used to do it but not in those types of weather conditions. Thumbs up.
Thanks Alex! I'm glad you enjoyed it! It ranks right up there as one of my more favorite hunts of all time as well! Thanks for watching and commenting! LJ
Thanks for taking the time to respond, Les!! That's another evidence of a great sportsman..... they take the time to talk with their fans. Thanks again for sharing your adventures, techniques, and best of luck in your hunting and in your life... :-) p.s. A big thanks to your brother too for getting it on film... :-)
Always been my favorite episode, can watch these hunts over and over. Know you quarry well and the paths they travel, paid off great for you. And all with a shotgun is money!! Love it
Thank you gamehunter! It is one of my all time favorites as well! I would love to do it again sometime! Fun, fun...fun! Thank you for watching and commenting! LJ
Believe it or not, this is the only way I have hunted. Never have used any calls for any hunting. Old school. Did the leg work of locating fresh trails (no game cams) in advance, pre-sighting (stepped off, not always range finder), and sitting a downwind tree stand early or late in the day. Animals are creatures of habit as much as instinct so they take the same routes. Usually the easiest routes. Ambush set ups. Long sits but I got to see a lot of game, not always what I am after. Thanks for sharing and the memories of old hunts but not in snow drifts. :-)
Impressive double Les ... ! Good shooting. I'm sure fur keeps you warm, but I'm thinking a portable ground blind dug in like that, paint some white on it, maybe a couple vertical fence posts and some barbed wire and a Buddy heater and a 20# (white) propane tank pulled in on a toboggan ! Congratulations !
I have watched many of les's videos & the man is a straight killer with the shotgun aswell with a rifle , running shots or standing don't matter they have a very slim chance of getting away ! 👍🏼👍🏼 to les johnson
Let's, I watch all your videos...this is one of my favorites. You used no calls..just your knowledge and observations of their behavior....just incredible. Ive used some of your tips over the years to observe deer within 20 yards...they had no idea I was there. Thanks for all you share with us. Happy New Year, Sir!
This is hands down one of the most amazing coyote hunting videos I have ever seen, and I’ve seen a lot of videos. You are the only one that has done this
This is the type of video that I most enjoy, Les. The 'live' shows tend to cause you to stop and greet folks who give a 'shout out ' and this is o.k. except that I find it interrupts your chat and breaks the thought process. I find it somewhat like having ( or trying to have ) a conversation, and somebody keeps 'butting in'. Anyway, it was good to see video of you and your brother out 'filming' the coyote hunt. It seemed to be so cold, that I actually had to get up and go put on a sweater !! Anyway, the above was just a couple of personal thoughts, and as such, they are my opinion only. Thanks for the videos.
LOL thank you Reg! Yes the video does not do any justice to how cold it actually was right then. We lose track of reality when we are setting in a thermostatically controlled house at 70 degrees. I am so glad that I did this just to see if I could actually do it and have it pay off. What I did learn about it all......it needed to be windy because if it was calm or light breeze, the coyotes are far too smart and their 6th sense actually knew that we were there or that there was danger there. Crazy how smart they are!!! Thanks for watching and commenting! LJ
Les... that was a really great video. You're enthusiasm for what you are doing is a joy to see! Awesome day and keep up the good work... will keep coming back buddy!
Wow, what a video Les. Coyotes are creatures of habit. Just like deer. You figured them out in that area and stacked them up. Perfect shooting. Do you wear snowshoes? Those conditions looked brutal.
Thank you polish! Since I was setting and not doing any moving, I was not using my snowshoes, but did use them on my other hunts on this trip. Yes the video does not do any justice for how cold it actually was. My videographer and I sat out there for at least 3 hours and we were both frozen at the end of 3 hours. Thanks for watching and commenting! LJ
Les, Thanks for responding back for my post. Listen I have to tell you that those Hornady 3inch 12 gage BB shot shotshells you highly recomend are impossible to find anywhere in the lower 48 states. You will have to tell Hornady to increase their production next time you talk with them aye.. Thanx!!
Les.Hello hey listen if there is anywhere in the lower 48 states that you know has your favorite Hornady Magnum 3inch Heavy Magnum Coyote load BBs for 12 gage let me know. They are almost impossable to locate a supplier who has them i stock. Thanx..
First time watching your video. You give an excellent presentation. You are interesting and your material is inspiring. Of the thousands of vids I have viewed this was the most eary and captivating I have ever seen. How you turned this into something Hollywood could never do is just incredible. Just amazing.
love it!! I go as often as I can here in southwestern PA.. love a full moon night with snow on the ground... coyote howling .. nothing like it!! hard to call em in the open here.. such thick woods..
I've watched this video over and over. I live for winter hunting and camera-work. I have a question on how you video. What lens and camera combo do you use and how do you keep the camera functioning? And the cameraman functioning. Taking gloves off in conditions like that is tough- I push buttons on the camera with my nose. People don't give the camera operator enough credit. Your's is great!
Awesome vid; didn't recognize ya with the yote on your head hahah, should keep the head warm! "Patience is a Virtue" in this video for sure Les, I tried that couple times and was successful. Takes a few days to recoup after with the chill up the spine but the fun of the hunt made it worth it eh..cheers
Thank you hunt! That is awesome that you have tried it as well! Whether I shot 1 or 4 a morning, it was just fun to see how the coyotes moved through the morning. Alot can be learned by just watching them. Thanks again for watching and commenting eh! :) LJ
That is so cold, I would have been worried my old A5 shotgun would cycle right. Your no doubt dedicated. Many would have shot just one and said thats all that came . Kudos to the camera man, More than once they knew he was out of place, and perfect setup, They knew something was wrong when they reached the Knoll but was already committed
WOW, that had to be bone chilling cold. You had great luck with the audio-visual aspect of the hunt. I have trouble with keeping my phone charged in the cold weather!! KEVIN
You are my idle. Love your videos. You have thought me so much. Can you tell me where you bought that hat cause I’d love to order one for up here in Canada and is that coyote fur.
Hay Les bro ur channel is awesome I love each and every one of ur videos and i have learned so much from u cuz i call coyotes every time I'm off work feeding cattle I run into a few dogs thanks for the ever so awesome helpful vids ps. I live in a hutterite colony in Western Montana ha ha
I wondered if that would work sitting alongside of one of their Trail. Well now I got to try it. Did two sets last night 5 degrees above zero. Almost a full moon really a fun night. Just starting to learn how to hunt coyotes got three reactions last night. Just didn't quite get it right maybe next time
Hi Less It’s really too bad you don’t produce your show anymore I really miss it can you tell me what choke you running on that shot gun to kill coyotes thank you and be well
+Chris Gilliam we do have some nice fur and some beautiful country. but very few trees. I'd like to try hunting and trapping with some cover :) checked out your channel some cool shit man. love seeing different areas
Thank you Tyrel! It was one of the most fun hunts that I have every been on. I always wondered about doing it like this and this day proved that it could work well. Thanks for watching and commenting! LJ
Eric, it is a travel corridor for them. They love taking a path of least resistance and using our roads, hiking trails, snowmobile trails, etc. Sometimes it is a territorial marker. Thanks for watching and commenting. LJ
In Alaska we have braided glacial rivers (many small channels like brooks instead of one big river). When those freeze over in winter there's coyote tracks all over em.
Have you ever tried shotgunning coyotes in the tall brush using a 6ft ladder? It works amazingly well. Dogs will even run right under your ladder. Just set your electronic call or the person who's doing the calling about 15 yards away sitting down in the brush. You could be sitting on top of a bright orange ladder and they won't even see you.
I know a guy who had a yote bite his head because he was wearing a fur hat while hunting.. bad idea.. And morning ambushing is probably the most productive way to get em.. except you should surround a whole area with multiple shooters. That way when you light up on a pack, they run to the next guy. My crew and I have killed 24 in an hour between the 5 of us before using this technique. Just kept bouncing packs off of eachother. Is was a coyote slaughterhouse!!
I literally watch this video 3-4 times per year! It is incredible! Les you have always been an idle of mine!! I am a dedicated coyote hunter and you are the gold standard to me! Cheers from Canada eh 🍻🇨🇦🤘

Incredible. Stacking them like cordwood without calling. You are definitely The Man!
Damn dude! You and your videographer deserve all the credit in the world for your endurance and perseverance. Great video! Thanks!
Holy Toledo, Les!! That was one of the coolest hunts I've ever seen you do!! Talk about 'knowing coyotes'! Great video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Alex! I'm glad you enjoyed it! It ranks right up there as one of my more favorite hunts of all time as well! Thanks for watching and commenting! LJ

Exactly what I was thinking !
That was cool as hell. Good hunting man! Those are very respectable kills.
Love it brother! Nice unorthodox hunting and sweet music!
That was an incredible video. You are most definitely the yote master.

Shivering as I watch this from my comfy office chair. Awesome stuff as usual!
Thanks Tony! Id say you had a pretty rough winter up in SD this year as well! Thanks for watching/commenting and I hope your well! LJ
Way to go Les, I thought I was the only one who would be willing to do something like this. You the man!
Les... that was a really great video. You're enthusiasm for what you are doing is a joy to see! Awesome day and keep up the good work... will keep coming back buddy!
Thank you Unofficial! I appreciate you watching and commenting on my channel! Have a good day! LJ
*Your enthusiasm
One of the coolest hunts ever. No pun intended!
That running shot at 7:17!
Love your passion Les. I don't know how you got the Camera man out there with you. When I hunt no one wants to go out in the shit. You are special.
One of the best videos I ever seen. Awesome job!!!
Yes, Les that was a fun hunt I even enjoyed more sitting here in my living room at 70 deg's. That's too cold for me. Great video!
Wow, what a video Les. Coyotes are creatures of habit. Just like deer. You figured them out in that area and stacked them up. Perfect shooting. Do you wear snowshoes? Those conditions looked brutal.

Yeah that was impressive and loved seeing something different. Great job, couldn’t have been easy to film either.
I've watched this video over and over. I live for winter hunting and camera-work. I have a question on how you video. What lens and camera combo do you use and how do you keep the camera functioning? Thank you Tyler, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching and commenting! LJ
The best coyote killing video ever.
Led your a bad man 30 below and sitting in snow I done 18 below and wind chill only to hunt about 2 hrs.
How do you tan your hides?
That is so cold, I would have been worried my old A5 shotgun would cycle right. Your no doubt dedicated. Many would have shot just one and said thats all that came . Kudos to the camera man, More than once they knew he was out of place, and perfect setup, They knew something was wrong when they reached the Knoll but was already committed
I was told I was crazy for sitting a windy, minus 13 degree deer stand with a flintlock. This makes that one look like a day at the beach!
Awesome footage thanks 👍👍
The Vermonter
Awesome video. Never would have thought of that way of hunting em. Great shooting..
Hay Les bro ur channel is awesome I love each and every one of ur videos and i have learned so much from u cuz i call coyotes every time I'm off work feeding cattle I run into a few dogs thanks for the ever so awesome helpful vids ps. I live in a hutterite colony in Western Montana ha ha
hard to out run a person that knows how to swing through his targets with a shotgun! good shooting les..
Thank you Jeff! I appreciate you watching and commenting! LJ
Ez shots, bad conditions
Amazing! Nice set up sir!
Wow this is incredible, you timed that first shot on the double that came through perfectly, that takes some serious discipline and experience
What kind of boots do you wear in frigid temps?
That looked super frickin fun.
What part of the coyote are you aiming for with that BB shot? head, neck, ribs?
I wondered if that would work sitting alongside of one of their Trail. Well now I got to try it. Did two sets last night 5 degrees above zero. Almost a full moon really a fun night. Just starting to learn how to hunt coyotes got three reactions last night. Just didn't quite get it right maybe next time
Les is a legend!
I was wondering how you were going to get the double and I was educated. Well done.
I froze to death watching this video - really nicely done! Watching has GOT to be better than being there ;)
Love it!
Hello Sir! Was wondering if you Tan and process your own furs or you have it done by someone?
Les that was freaking amazing. Good shooting sir!!
Hi Less It’s really too bad you don’t produce your show anymore I really miss it can you tell me what choke you running on that shot gun to kill coyotes thank you and be well
wow! I trap and call and the understanding of the animal to be able to just sit and shotgun them is awesome.
+Chris Gilliam Nebraska, South West panhandle
+Chris Gilliam we do have some nice fur and some beautiful country. but very few trees. I'd like to try hunting and trapping with some cover :) checked out your channel some cool shit man. love seeing different areas

Simply frickin awesome
Most impressive 👍👍👍
What state or province was this hunt in ?
awesome..Les that load your shooting rocks. What size are the bb's though?
You said it GF! Nickel Plated BB's. Hornady Heavy Magnum Coyote Loads. Thanks for watching and commenting! LJ
Yeah, but what are they? #4's?
The BBs Les is useing I believe are .177 diameter, the same as a .177 pellet gun pellet in circumfrence.
Thanks..
+GFLeibrandt just like #4, BB is the size you'll see on the box. It is larger than #4 or #2 and is 17.7 caliber (.177 diameter) as Chris Hammond said.
Wow, what hunting and shooting!!
epic hunt.
Where is this location...roughly ? Just curious.- Thx
Fantastic hunt!
its got to be that coyote hat.... love it lol.
What state are you in ? North Dakota ?
What shells you using?
Watch the whole video he will tell you.
that was AWESOME!
I have often seen coyote scat in the middle of a hiking trail, is this territorial marking or just them just like showing off their poop?
Eric, it is a travel corridor for them. They love taking a path of least resistance and using our roads, hiking trails, snowmobile trails, etc. Sometimes it is a territorial marker. Thanks for watching and commenting. LJ

danasoroko that's the only place I've ever heard of having hudderites
@@509Gman hudderites are all over washington and montana
Man I cold watching this 🤓💪🏿
Damn will gunpowder burn 🔥 that cold 🥶
That was cool in more ways then one lol
That was beautiful, made me proud to be human.
very cool
Is it normal for me to be this excited
The Best
I am using 00 buckshot in dense Ohio woods for coyotes. Most shots are 35 yards.
I'm hoping Cabelas starts carrying that Hornady BB load soon.
I know a guy who had a yote bite his head because he was wearing a fur hat while hunting.. bad idea.. What shotgun are you using les, just curious?
Lol white boy is cold! no pun intended 🥶
the snow is really absorbing the sound of the shotgun its acting like a silencer it seems
Awesome but man son just waiting around for one to drop by looks so cold and lonely somebody get this man a cheese burger.
good job...…..
I can't believe there moving when it's that cold
What happened to Les?
It makes me cold just watching this.
I want your hat.
