      Just console into the switch and type "vlan x" then go to the switchport and type switchport access vlan x and you're done. I don't own this box but that's generally how switches work (cisco, adtran, etc)

    Please consider making a video showing how one takes a NVR with a camera and say a doorbell and a UniFi switch to create a best practice configuration with camera/doorbell/NVR VLAN isolation and firewall rules (say on a UDM-Pro) to isolate the camera network while being able to access the NVR camera recordings AND interact with the doorbell. Your point about not allowing someone who manages to gain physical access to a Ethernet plug for a camera/doorbell is an excellent one. Please consider making a video to show the VLAN / firewall rules setup for such a best practice system.

    Glad you made the point on putting the Protect system on a dedicated VLAN. That's something you can't / shouldn't really do on a UDM-Pro serving as an NVR (unless you want the associated headaches down the road), so this is a key differentiator for the UNVR.

      @@travisharper8268 Have fun. You probably can get it to work. For a while. Then something will come along from UI that breaks it.
      I still put the UNVR's on dedicated VLAN's on some projects, but the new UP-Sense Bluetooth accessory is an example of something that doesn't completely work right if the AP that it connects to is on a separate VLAN from Protect.

    Awesome video Chris, I actually just ordered one of these and am waiting for it to arrive. I'm happy they finally support RAID 10. At 14:15, what you're describing is RAID 0+1 (mirror of stripes), while RAID 10 is a stripe of mirrors. Really makes no difference when it comes to four drives however. There's gotta be that one guy in the comments splitting hairs, eh?

    • @shubinternet
      @shubinternet 3 роки тому +2

      It is vital to stripe the mirrors and not mirror the stripes. You don’t want to break both the stripes and the mirrors if one disk dies.

    • @matthewonciul3803
      @matthewonciul3803 3 роки тому

      @@shubinternet Mirrored stripes (raid 0+1) can be rebuilt and does offer redundancy if a disk fails, but doesn't scale as nicely. It looks like this NVR supports proper RAID 10 (striped mirrors).

    • @shubinternet
      @shubinternet 3 роки тому

      @@matthewonciul3803 if you mirror the stripes and lose a disk, then you’ve broken the disk with the stripe, and then you’ve also broken the mirror across the stripes.
      Conversely, if you stripe the mirrors and lose a disk, you retain the stripe across both mirror devices, even though one of them is in reduced redundancy mode.
      I’ve done it both ways, and RAID 0+1 is just a big bag of hurt. RAID 10 has its own problems, but it’s not as bad.

    27:25 The "image quality" effects the bitrate you can check the actual bitrate in the about section of the camera. I had the g4 Pro and at 100% image quality it uses a 16mbit stream, I reduced this to 34% which makes the stream 6mbit. I then reduce the framerate to 6fps so the quality is almost identical. This not only helps storage capacity but the speed of scrubbing through the timeline. My settings allows the scrubbing to take 2 or 3 seconds instead of 10+ seconds that I was getting with the defaults. it'll also help 4k streaming over the internet. The 720p preview was unaffected by the reduced framerate.

    We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. However, we should have just noted the dimensions prior to purchasing. Otherwise, we love the doorbell. It works perfectly, and the video is very clear, even at night.

    Does the privacy zone stay where it is put location based on PTZ cameras? Or does it work as a filter on top of the image moving around when u turn camera? In Finland u are not allowed to record naibours and rarely u can position PTZ cameras so they record only your own property in every angle and direction.

    Can you connect the NVR to a UDM Base and then just log into your cloud account and see both the UDM and NVR on the dashboard....I assume so ?

    I'm looking to use this system to protect my home since I have poor internet speeds in my area. DSL 5Mbps down and less than 1 up. I know you say this requires internet to work but will it still work with my speeds?

    I ended up installing apcupsd via putty so I can instruct the UNVR to perform a graceful shutdown when my APC UPS reaches a certain battery level. It works great. The problem is that for whatever reason, the UNVR will remove the app after a while (perhaps during a firmware update). Would you know why this happens? Thanks.

    Great Video Chris as usual. Setting up a network for a new House. I set up the NVR and did a vlan called "security" through the UDMP. I can't change or config to a static IP either through the NVR locally, remotely or via the app?? It is 10g spf+ through the unifi Agg? any ideas why

    I have my UNVR plugged into my switch and also have the UDM-Pro (switch plugged into UDM-Pro via the 10GB SFP port, which I know is dumb since the switch only has the 1GB SFP port), however, should I swap the NVR connection from Ethernet to use the 10GB SFP+ port to the UDM-Pro? Is the benefit worth it? I plan on having 4 or so cameras and I'm worried the spead of the 1GB/s connection is going to bottleneck the throughput of 4+ 4K cameras.

    Just got my NVRPro and 7 16TB Segate AI drives today. Currently using a NVR with 4 of the same drives. Have you tried moving from a NVR to NVRPro? Wondering if I can restore the pro with a backup file, use the original 4 drives with 3 new ones and keep my video history. Currently running 32 g3 cameras always recording with motion detection and smart detection on. I’m getting about 60 days of storage now and need at least 90 along with adding a few cameras soon.

    I think I found the answer to this but can you use other branded cameras I.e Amcrest. I have a handful of amcrest cameras set up in my building and I'm completely happy with the image quality. Currently using Blue Iris for my recordings happy with the software it's just pushing my pc way too much so looking for another solution.

    So if u have UMDP can you use that hdd in the R5 pool also ? Can you run one instance on the protect on the UDMP and one the NVR, or how does that work ?

    • @CrosstalkSolutions

      No - you can only use the HDD's on board the UNVR itself. You could have cameras attached to both the UDMP and UNVR on the same network...but why?

  • @elykk18

    Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that if you are using the mobile app (Android for example), you 'have' to have the cloud account in order to view footage, EVEN when on the local LAN. So if your Internet goes down at your house, you can no longer use the mobile app, which is insane. So in reality, there is 'local account only' for the mobile app (like if I wanted to VPN into my home network in order to access it with the app etc.). Really wish they would allow that, not a fan of being forced to use the cloud.

    Does the unvr provide the protect app. Could you use it with UniFi cameras with out any of the network gear from them. For instance if a small company has a network and switches all setup not UniFi and just wants a camera system would they only need the UNVR and cameras.

    We have been thinking about upgrading to unifi protect. On our current system one of the exterior cameras is by a night light so it records non stop all night long due to insects flying. Is there a way in protect not to pick up on the insects or at least not as often?
