    Awesome! Got the second UNVR coming today. I've had buyer's remorse since a few months after buying my first UNVR over 2 years ago as I wished I would've bought the pro. But now with stacking I have more capacity without buying a pro and having a UNVR just sitting around.

    While this is a good move, they should make it to where the UDM is the parent and all NVR's after are child.

    • @EngineScypex
      @EngineScypex Рік тому +4

      Well, just because the UDM also has protect on board, that doesn't mean everyone using protect has (or wants to have) a UDM in the network.

    • @yourpcmd
      @yourpcmd Рік тому +2

      @@EngineScypex that's true if you're a residential or very SB customer and only want 3-4 cameras. The UDM Pro has a hard time keeping up, the SE not so hard due to its internal SSD acting as a cache. But if you need say 8, 10, 12 or more, yeah, you're going to need the UNVR.

      @@yourpcmd You're missing the point.
      Yes, the UDM Pro / SE can do the job for a smaller amount of cameras. Much like the Cloud Key G2 Plus.
      But first, not everyone wants to use Unifi as a gateway / firewall - and if you don't intend to use Unifi for that purpose, it doesn't make sense to buy a UDM in the first place.
      Secondly, not everyone buys NVR-Equipment as a hobby. Even if the UDM is used, people might still use the UNVR instead. 1) You don't want your network traffic to be affected (and that's the result if the UDM is busy managing too many cameras). 2) No redundancy is basically a no-go for NVRs if it's not just set-up for fun.

    Remarkable! Thanks Cody! Will more than likely be stacking 2 UNVR Pros for my biggest client as we'll probably have closer to 40 cameras.

    Would be nice to see a test of what happens if one unvr goes offline.

    This is a nice feature, but I find it a bit short of what it could be. For example, why oh why didn't they do an automatic balancing so you would have a failover like HA setup for this? And why limit to two, this seems silly?
    And I would have preferred them doing off site backup instead.

    Can the UVC G3 bullet be installed with the UVC G5 bullet on UNVR? Can the UNVR device detect these two cameras?
    Because I have 10 old UVC G3 Bullet cameras and just bought a UVC G3 Bullet but the UVC G5 Bullet camera is not readable in the UniFi video software that I installed on Windows 10

    Strange issue. I stacked 2 UNVR-Pros. It shows it with 'stacked' icon on the portal page but once in protect, the stacked image is not there and no where an option to be found to access the second UNVR slave. Cant manually select it from the drop down list either. Any thoughts?

    • @88krazie

      YOu cant access the second NVR, there design as of now doesn't allow that.

    Cody, will the migration strategy work with adding the 4-bay NVR to a UDM SE and then migrate the cameras from the UDM to the NVR? Or is it just better to add the NVR, re-adpot the cams and move the disk drive from the UDM to the NVR?

  • @mrbryce2000
    @mrbryce2000 Рік тому +1

    Thank you very much for demonstrating this. I will be helping a school with 80 cameras to migrate from UniFi Video to UniFi Protect using two UNVR Pros. Do you know if the stacking would break if a UniFi Video config is imported?

    • @tfacter
      @tfacter Рік тому

      It most likely would break it. While its more annoying. being a longer process. It's better to get them all restored on one NVR first.
      While there is a theoretical camera limit. its not locked to that limit and can do it. Once all the cameras are up you could then stack
      the NVRs and move the cameras accordingly. Best to also have the cameras grouped in some kind of order also.

  • @jadamsnz
    @jadamsnz Рік тому

    So the point of stacking is that all recordings, irrespective of NVR they are on, are presented through the same Protect interface as well as managing all the devices? I'm a little surprised that you have to manually assign cameras to NVRs or is that a consequence of doing the migration? I would have thought the assignment would have been managed by Protect. Maybe that happens when you add cameras from scratch.

    Can this be done over wan connection as an offsite backup?

  • @EngineScypex
    @EngineScypex Рік тому +2

    Honestly, I don't see the point.
    Given that Ubiquiti doesn't allow to use own hardware it's more than overdued, but the concept is more than flawed: There are only 2 advantages, it's quicker to migrate a device and more devices can be displayed on one dashboard.
    But seriously, in theory it would be so easy:
    - Let the UI suggest to auto-manage the devices, so it's starting to migrate cameras automatically to balance out the resources (disk space and cpu/ram).
    - Have the config on both devices. Even if one NVR fails the second could take over the recording.
    - DO NOT DELETE DATA. That's simply a no-go. If we can't just copy the data via SMB or NFS one thing, but then they'd have at least a concept to keep data.

    Do you know if the storage in the parent nvr would be reformatted if you have existing footage.
    I have an nvr that I would like to expand. And I would like to not loose footage already on the nvr.
