      Thank you. Personally I find a little bit of horizontality on Aloe vera leaves is quite attractive but it can be too much sometimes. Good luck and enjoy what's left of your weekend.

    I love Aloes. I have a couple interesting stories to tell about them. Sometime in the nineties, I divided a large Aloe barbadensis, and had about a half dozen or so pups left over. I left those pups laying on the table in a south facing window, thinking to give them as gifts to friends or neighbors. Nobody happened by that wanted them, so they laid there on the table for about a year. The leaves got pretty thin, but, at the end of that time they were still green, so I potted them up. After about two months, I had a bunch of small plants to give away. Every one of them survived and grew. Aloes are really tough plants as long as they don't freeze.
    About eight years ago I bought seeds on EBay of the Kelly Griffin hybrid Fang. Knowing that hybrid seed seldom breeds true, I tried them as an adventure. The result that no two seedlings are alike. The only thing they had in common was that the serrations along the leaves are some shade of red. If your Pink panther sets seed, I recommend that you plant it. The results may amaze you, but it should be a lot of fun.

    • @GardeningatDouentza
      @GardeningatDouentza  3 роки тому

      That is a great story and I am very interested to learn your results with the hybrid seed. I will certainly sow the seed if mine ever sets it. Thanks for the tip and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

    Lovely collection Rachel :) Aloes can generally take much colder temps If dry. In a few of the places where they naturally grow they'll often be exposed to a light frost in winter. Some of the smaller types also like a bit of shade and you'll often find them in dry thickets under shrubs.

    Appreciable collection and presentation too. To designate a single at top will be unjustice to remaining ones. Yes I like each aloe as it is, without comparison .

    Aloe are very interesting succulents, I have several myself. I find Aloe vera a bit fussy, it does not enjoy full sun and does not enjoy much watering either. Arborescens is a lot more vigorous and very showy. It makes tall and dense edges and when they bloom in autumn they are fantastic. I have a few in bud at present. I have green ice but it is small, very slow grower. I do not remember if I have the variegated one, I don't think so and I cannot check right now because it is dark but I don't think I do. Yours is looking gorgeous!!! Thank you for the update and have a great weekend ❤️

      Good afternoon, Fernanda. It seems we are both in the aloe apprecaition club although you would, no doubt, get away with growing many a lot better than I ever could. I am always in awe at the succulents that can be grown outdoors in Lisbon when I visit. I just noticed after the video that my variegated aloe has a bud forming so I will look forward to that. Thanks for watching and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

    The Aloe you called A. brevifolia in the beginning of the video is in fact Aloe Mitriformis. The Aloe Brevifolia has very small and compact blue rosettes. Although the rosettes are small, the plant grows multiple heads and forms a mound of bluish rosettes all tightly packed together.

    lovely to see your Aloes and plant collection
    Aloe arborescens, I am not sure why it got the specific epithet arborescens , I normally see it growing on cliff edges and i would describe it as more scrubby than a tree . It is a very popular hedge plant in South Africa . The common name is Krantz Aloe which is cliff in Afrikaans and this is well named as I invariably see it on cliffs when looking for succulents . One of the easiest to grow from cuttings
    My favourites would be hard to pick but if I had to choose a top five it would be Aloe marlothii ,Aloe striata, Aloe reynoldsii , Aloe thraskii which are all South African and then Aloe castilloniae which is from Madagascar . All of these would be great in pots

    • @GardeningatDouentza
      @GardeningatDouentza  3 роки тому

      Ooh, those first two look gorgeous and the Madagascar one is a mad looking fellow. I will have to look out for plants or seed. Aloe (at least the ones I grew) is easier from seed than one might have thought. Hmm, I did fail with A. polyphylla from seed a while back though.

      Hi there. If you look at the names on the screen, any written with single quotes around the last word in its name is a hybrid.

    Aloe Rachel. (Sorry, that was rubbish!) I wish I could grow succulents but I’d need another greenhouse with different conditions. There’s just so many fabulous plants out there. I’ll just have to content myself with your lovely collection. 😀🤷‍♂️🤔
