Couldn't agree more. Ended up at a club in Bedford after a gig recently and was amazed to find they had a Northern Soul DJ playing in there. The place was rammed with teenagers who have obviously been into the scene for a good couple of years judging by their moves. Brilliant to see new blood taking over from us oldies and it was great for me to throw out a few steps with them as the baton passes over. Better seeing kids keeping the scene alive than seeing them mugging pensioners. KTF.
Northern Soul will never die, its contagious, pure soulful music. It has the heart at the centre of all its hits, every time i hear it, it gives me goosebumps. Most modern songs are junk, take away all the fancy instruments and effects and what you are left with is junk. If you take away all the instruments from Northern Soul songs they still sounds great just with the voice because it has SOUL - KEEP THE FAITH!

So true Reg, never had the chance to to get to the Casino Or the other places. Would have loved to have gone to the Twisted Wheel. Got into the northern Soul music in 76, a song by Bobby Paris called the night Owl and i beat Mike Read on Radio 1's Beat the Jock with it back in 78..58yrs old now and still love it , really would love the chance to go back and live it again. Just watched a clip (Northern Soul dancing in a Kebab shop) check it out.Don't get any better than that.Keep the faith
as one of those who was average to rubbish ( to long dancing to funk and stuff before I discovered the beautiful music) I'm glad you made this point. I just LOVE the music , loved the scene, the people the dancing ( even just watching) my little gang still participate whenever , in Pompey and around and at Bisley whenever we can, I'm still crap ( but I'm 58 and have angina!!)
There was and still is today a lot of controversial talk about this comp, nevertheless someone had to win. It's not a shame that James didn't win, just a shame or rather it seems a shambles on how it was presented. It takes a lot of courage to enter a comp, so well done Stephen on winning, but James when all said you were by far the better dancer.
Craig form Shewsbury was a great dancer, I see him at a Loughborough Allnighter in the 80's come out of a spin into the splits, totally brilliant. Anyone know if Craig is still about?
I'm an old git but since neither seems to be able to dance in time to the music... and these are the best...Back in the day I fear they'd have been ridiculed something terrible - but then that was the 60's!

It was also not about expecting to be seen. We were entirely in our own space with the music. Must be hard to be totally fully engaged with the music when people are expecting a performance - and you're not a performer. :)
Great acrobatics but they dont fit in with the tune. I am 66 and back drops happen when the tempo goes up not just any time well thats how it was for me. Ha not now though
The guy in white is anorthern afficianado, the other has learned a lot of impressive moves. He doesn't know jack about northern soul. Maybe in twenty years??
Guy in white for my money - seem to interpret the music better, and I am not biased even though I am from Derby! Shouldn't be all about acrobatics! KTF
go watch some of the dubstep stuff and the robotic performances... This here is neighborhood puke lol... but good if you can get drunk enough not to care to make a complete ass of yourself, just don't video tape it to watch it later, you may never show your face again, lol.
couldnt watch it all as it makes me cringe stuff like this,,, but from watching a bt of it the guy on the right was rubbish,,,,,,,,,,, this is what i hate about northern soul so thats why i only go to modern soul nites nowadays,,,, northerns getting like rock n roll now
shows you how lame a crowd can be... the better dancer was by far the guy on the left who lost! LOL... neither was choreographed, and the guy on the left at least followed some of the music changes... the guy on the right was chaotic and rather lame, coarse and low grade in his off-time embarrassing attempts LOL... wow...did the girls scream louder for the guy that won! It appears so... was not for the dancing surely.
