That’s just an extra little step I’ll use for metallics. The control coat will be reduced down. I’ve found essentially 2.5 coats for hood coverage on silvers that way. No mottling or striping. Makes painting easier
You don't throw metallics to the blend panel edges with those 2nd & orientation coats ??? And,,, by spraying to the edge with each coat of clear - The clear don't throw off an optical discoloration ???
I don't put any colour at the edge of a panel where it butts up against an unpainted panel. I always clear the whole panel. Never had issues with the colours looking off.
