    Since this review is wrong/incomplete, here are some key points of clarification: 1) This guitar is a reissue of the Rose Morris distributed model played by Pete Townshend with one modification he requested, a wider neck, making it much easier to play. Hence "Plus" in the model name. 2) The pickup selector works as follows: down-bridge; center-all three pickups; up-neck & middle. 3) The "neck" volume knob controls the neck and middle pickups together. 4) The fifth knob is a second volume control for the neck & middle pickups. Fully down is 100%. Fully up is ~50%. This allows the player to balance preset volumes between each of the selector settings and easily make tonal variations with one knob with the selector switch in the middle postion. 5) The "polished" fretboard is finished with a UV cured polyurethane varnish, as is the rest of the guitar. 6) I don't think any reference was made to the fact that the pickups are Rickenbacker's vintage Toaster style model, noted for their low output "jangley" sound. I really hate UA-cam reviews with incorrect information. There is no excuse. This is all easily found on the web. Also no mention of the amp being used and its tone control settings. This is a must for any electric guitar demo so the viewer can take the amp's tonality in consideration while listening to the demo. I hope the reviewer takes this critique constructively as it is intended.

      Well to be accurate, it’s UV cured polyester finish and not polyurethane. 2 different finish types there.

      I wonder if if is possible to wire it for 5 positions, like a Strat.

    What makes these Rickenbacker 12 String Guitars interesting is that on the Octave Courses the Low Octave Strings come before the High ones rather than the High ones before the Low ones.

    I love this Mapleglo 1993Plus. I think all Rickenbackers are beautiful guitars. Guess I was little biased since I got into guitar when the Beatles hit the USA. I have had 4 Rics in my lifetime. I currently have a 350 Jetglo John Lennon Signature model with the standard full-scale neck. I also owned two 620 in Mapleglo. I had 2 360 models in 6 string models in Fireglo. One was a slant fret model the other was standard. I liked the standard the best. I bought the slant because I thought the fit and feel were better than the standard at the time. I stupidly let them both go. Dumb move. I always wanted a Ric 12 string. I was torn between the 360 and the 381V69. The 381 is a piece of art to behold. The carving on both sides with the checkerboard binding is awesome.
    I'm old now with little disposable money so I won't be getting my 12-string or 381 in this lifetime. But I am a Rickenbacker man through and through. Rics- Rock

    The wood grain on the face of it is so attractive, made so by careful selection and tasteful design. This guitar oozes fine, precise workmanship. Really stunning.

    That neck+mid tone is nicer than I would have expected. Nonetheless these really need independent controls for each pickup.

    Interesting choice to play the theme to postman pat as your opening tune on a rickenbacker 12 string demo ! Mr tambourine man is a bit too passe.. Lovely guitar.

    Gotta use a Compressor for the best sound. Mandatory.

    • @Jeffcatbuckeye
      @Jeffcatbuckeye 2 роки тому

      You would be surprised. You can get a pretty good sound with just a VOX amp and tone adjustments. It doesn’t have the jangle box shimmer/ring with advanced compression but 99% wouldn’t notice the difference. Look up “turn turn turn” on the maple glo 330/12…..simply the guitar and VOX AC15….very close. With that said. I’m still getting a janglebox to have that added compression for those scenarios.

    I've been playing a 12-string Rickenbacker for almost twenty years now. The things is, it is extremely well built and it has a lot of charachter, but it is not the kind of guitar you could use for any style.

    • @VvERingmustmOneven

      which is just not true. and yes, I own and have owned a whole bunch of different Rickenbackers. if reviewers and people who've ever played are not already bad enough to push these guitars into a corner it's users who fail to see the whole potential of them

    Is that neck as wide as something you'd have on a standard acoustic?

    • @arynowyrth9581
      @arynowyrth9581 8 років тому

      +NotOrdinaryInGames At the nut, the width is 1.75"/44.5mm; at the twelfth fret, it is 2.1" / 53.52mm. The reviewer fails to note that this is wider than most Rickenbacker guitars.

    • @LewisTurnerguitar
      @LewisTurnerguitar 8 років тому

      +Aryno Wyrth I think you will find "the reviewer" noted that in the write up, probably pretty obvious to see on a video that its wider than a normal acoustic, having 12 strings an all.....

    • @arynowyrth9581
      @arynowyrth9581 8 років тому +1

      +Lewis Turner Yes, but it is not mentioned in this video review. Also, my cheap, Chinese-made 6-string acoustic has a nut width of exactly 1.75-inches, so it is not really wider than most acoustics; 1.75 is actually pretty standard.
      The great thing about this new Ric IS that it is wider than their other 12 semi-hollows; makes them a lot more useful for most players.

    Playing a 12 string guitar is not like playing a 6 string. The best of a 12 string is only illustrated by doing multiple arpeggios (separate notes) in a cascading style/motion. This type of guitar is clearly not meant for strumming much but rather individual voicings of the the double noted strings in diatonic scales/chords. This is a truly gorgeous sounding guitar in the right hands. This gentleman though probably well intended, hasn't got a damned clue on what to do with this guitar to show its true beauty and capabilities. Think Beatles, Byrds tunes, etc...... There's very good reasons these fine instruments were used the way they were....
    Do your homework next time before you do a review that obviously is out of your depth.

    Its a nice guitar but the price is truly eye watering and requires a second mortgage. You could buy a good secondhand car for the same money.Who can afford this other than professional musicians or Millionaires. The closed back headstock is a bad design and makes changing the strings an absolute nightmare.

    • @cliftoncaskey5696
      @cliftoncaskey5696 Рік тому

      You haven’t seen Gibson prices? Also, changing strings isn’t too bad if you realize you have to set aside a little time to do it. And it really helps if you buy a Winfield Vintage 12-string trapeze tailpiece. It has 12 string slots instead of six, so you don’t have to double up on the strings going through the slots. And lastly, it’s much easier changing one string at a time, keeping tension on the bridge. If you work your way from the outside in, in other words, start with low and high E, then A and B, then G and D, it’s not too difficult.
