My Neighbour ran into Charlie Watts taking an afternoon stroll on Yonge St. a few hours before their last concert in Toronto. ... He told me how he FROZE in shock and said, "Is it really YOU?" ... Charlie belly laughed and said, "Yes Mate, any idea where I can get a pint of Guinness around here?" .... My friend pointed to the bar across the street and Charlie invited him to join him. ... They had a pint and a half hour chat, my friend told me he was the nicest man he EVER met. ... THAT was Charlie Watts.
Thank you for sharing this story about Charlie!!
@@DJGerryfromStarlightMusic and thank YOU for this channel Gerry ... keep it comin!
I really hope this story is true! I'd like to believe that Charlie would do that
Wonderful slory. Charlie always seemed so lovely!
💕
What a wonderful story.
Thank you for sharing that.
Sounds like Mr Watts was a lovely, lovely soul.
The world is a little sadder without this sweet, talented gentleman.
The sadness in his voice and eyes was so genuine when he admitted he almost lost all...so glad he found his way out
I went through exactly the same mid-80's and almost lost everything too. Funnily enough, my path crossed Charlie's about then (he poured me a pint in an hotel bar after the barman had gone to bed... long story).
I straightened out, recovered, then had the most horrific accident which left me severely crippled... and lost everything. Sometimes you just can't win!
That was sure sweet of him to share that difficult story. Maybe it will help someone else to not feel so alone and realize they too can kick that nightmare of an addiction if Charlie did! 💕😎
It must be really scary but such a grateful feeling just to be able to look back on such a hard, hard time. Damn opioids are stealing so many souls, taking babies’ parents, robbing innocent lives snd their babies’ childhoods too!
To share that sadness and story was a gift really❣️Thanks, Charlie for a gift that keeps on giving. 💗🌸
@@bingbong7316 Glad you found the strength to kick it❣️God bless you and Charlie too💕I bet that is a long story…sounds like a generous down to Earth guy pouring you a pint! Thanks for sharing😎🌞🌸
At least he came through it a lived a good life !
He was very futunate. Not a lot of people on vices survived.
My job in NY for 2 years was driving addicted people to methadone clinics.
Charlie was so down to earth and honest. May he rest in peace.
God bless you Charlie, thanks for your music, it will live forever.
Those down-to-Earth people with their heroin, touring the world as a rock star... Psh.
Now he is 6 feet under and so much closer.
I'm not even one of those diehard Stones fans, but when Charlie passed it broke me. I know he's not suffering anymore but now we are.
I heard that he was totally faithful to his wife. What a classy gentleman. Rip Charlie
As anyone should be surely
I heard the groupie sweet Connie set her sights on Charlie and worked her way to get to meet him, offered her services, and he just disappeared when she turned away for a minute.
He looks like it, even when they got old, the way he dressed looked like a humble simple man
He was my favourite, so cool n composed
You heard wrong
Gonna miss you Charlie.
Beautiful soul in that gentleman. Rest In Peace, Charlie.
Ffs he’s not dead yet 🙄
Charlies' candor is disarming, truly a great drummer and a true gentleman.
David Worth 👋
What a lovely man. He’ll be sadly forever missed. The quiet Stone.
im 68 was never a full blown stones fan, but found this touching.
Here, here. Charlie's roots were in jazz so he was a double threat. He once punched Mick and reminded him that HE was the drummer and that Mick was HIS singer. Sartorially splendid and invested his wealth well. I still think of what Brian Jones, the founder who was Mick's angelic twin at the outset, could have achieved if he did not throw his talent away. And leave behind heartbroken women and lost children in a "unliberated" era. Gail W., USA Midwest.
A true professional Englishmen - RIP Mr. Watts
Englishman. He was an amazing drummer. R.I.P.
Yeah , I think we got that part pal
The unprofessional Englishmen throw a spanner in the works for all the good uns.
Bastards....
SEE YA CHARLIE
HOPE YOU GOT YOUR YA-YAs OUT
He certainly dressed like a distinguished gentleman. It was always great to see what sort of jacket and tie or colorful ensemble he would wear in public or for band photos.
@@ccampbell9176 Charlie was always the model of sartorial splendor for the Stones.
RIP
still cant believe it, charlie you were so down to earth and genuine, the stones arent the stones without you
I said the same thing. He was so classy. 🙏🏼💖🕊
Really?
One of those unique artists you can identify within seconds. Usually its a voice but with Charlie, it's HIS beat.
YES HIS BEAT& NICE NATURE STAYS WITH US
The drumming on paint it black was excellent .
"I don't think I'll be doing it at this level when I'm 70"....well Charlie, you were! And no one did it better!
One of the greatest timekeepers in the business, you would hardly see Charlie Watts move but he did and every move he made had purpose. Some people say that Charlie looked bored, but he was focused on his craft. If you were lucky you may catch his attention for a tiny moment and he'd lay one of those famous smirks/grins on ya. Thank you for the years of entertainment Charlie Watts, rest in peace. My sincere condolences to his loved ones.
RIP Charlie
He'd occasionally lay an eye roll on Mick.
THANK YOU! FINALLY! AN EXPLANATION!
I thought my wife looked bored on our honeymoon. I now know, she was "focused".
@@johnnyyoung9472 That's right, he had great humour.
@@gerrym.9354 Heh, heh okay...go with that.
Such a huge loss!! We will never forget you Charlie.😭😭💔💔
He was always the most honest and humble Stone.
Charlie Watts had the longest music "gig" possible. He was the prince of drumming! He was an icon and was a "quality" band member -- he had so much class. I'll miss him immensely 😓😭❤💗💖.
A great honest human being. Told it like it was and told it like it is. May you rest in peace and you will always will be in our hearts and prayers will be always with your loved ones, Amen 🙏 my brother ,Mr Charlie Watts of the greatest band in the world .
Charlie was so smooth & cool. He also seemed entertained watching Mick perform his stage antics, never drawing attention to himself, while never missing a beat. They made the right choice when they chose Charlie over Ginger Baker. What a classy & talented person he was!!!! In later years Keith would not tour unless Charlie agreed to tour as well. Love the story behind "It's Only Rock & Roll - But I Like It" inspired by a reply comment Charlie made before loading a tour bus.
I didn’t know Charlie , never met him, but I sure do miss him.
Out Of Tears is such a gorgeous song. Tomorrow will be one week since he passed & I'm crying again watching this ! 😭 I think it's his honesty that gets me so much. RIP Charlie 💔
Hi 👋
What a gentleman.. Love Charlie Watts.. He's my favourite of the Stones💗
Charlie was always the mortar that held the Stones together. We're All heading to the same place, Charlie just got there a little before us.
Charlie Amazing performance
CharlieWatts was definitely the most common man of the Rolling Stones The man did not see himself as a rockstar in his eyes he just wants a drummer , he had no ego he had no delusions of grandeur he just was a man who loves his wife and children play drums in a band and that’s that. Preacher PaulD 🙏✝️❤️👍
Actually he only had one child. You have described Charlie to a "T". Guess we could call him the "gentleman drummer". His taste in clothes was something to behold.
A True Gentleman, Will Be Sorely Missed and Remembered Forever ! R.I.P. Charlie Watts.
He was the calm in the storm. Almost didn’t notice him amid the overshadowing of his bandmates. Just listen specifically to his drumming on any Stones song, he was great. Rest In Peace Charlie. We’ll always remember you. ❤️
Charlie's drumming on get off my cloud is exellent
I think a good rhythm section mostly stays in the background. That's just how it is. They keep the band together, not just in timing, but groove and on and off the road. The only rhythm section that came close was AC/DC's. While Bon Scott or Brian Johnson was out front with Angus Young, it was his brother rhythm guitarist Malcolm, with drummer Phil Rudd and bassist Cliff Williams who kept the band's tight groove that put a tingle into you.
Without Charlie and Bill, Mick and Keith would not be able to shine.
@@Banana_Split_Cream_Buns oh, ok
Such a class act. RIP Charlie Watts. He will be missed.
Wow first time I saw he opened up bout it
Sweet sweet rare man
He was always classy. 🙏🏼💜🕊
Very open and honest man . Charles Watts will live forever in our memories . He was so special human being and did the best drumming for the best and biggest Rock band in the planet : The Rolling Stones . Hi from Brazil :)
Hi 👋
We miss you Charlie
Mike 👋
What soulful, thoughtful eyes he had.
All the stones took it to the edge. Made the music great.
Bill didn’t.
@@BigSky1 Bill wasn't really into the drugs but he did admit later in life that he had a sex addiction in the early years of the stones
@@jaredcraver3898 Who hasn’t got one of those when young.

Being a rock musician I fought my demons as well. And I won as well. I think back and imagine how I survived…the demons were fun 🤩 but they lost 😡! Thank u Mr Watts for all the gr8 music.
We will always love Charlie! My favourite drummer of all time id have to say. No one else has brought us the goods as long and consistently as he and his Rolling Stones cohorts have. Bless em all and thanks for the ride Charlie!
Hi 👋
Neil Peart nearly as long and 100 times m9re dedicated. But, I suppose it's an English thing to vote for Charlie the Curmudgeon.. RIP both of them
How many Rock Stars didn’t dabble with my Queen of Horses. A great drummer a great musician. From the Stones to Blues to Jazz, he was just so good.
Don't call it dabbling ...that term suggests it's ok.
@@blindtoby8967 no offence, but when they dabble, they do think it’s ok, then after the dabbling problems arise then it becomes not ok. It becomes painful not just because the pain won’t go away because there maybe no coming back from it. The thing is he did get rid of the issue.
Drug use among musicians is older than recorded music itself. I always found it amazing how Lemmy from Motörhead said he never touched heroin. He used copious amounts of LSD while young only but pretty much his whole life he treated amphetamine like an office worker treats coffee and he drank whisky like it was water. But he said about heroin "that's the one that kills you" and he never touched it. Probably also because it killed his one and only true love.
@@mikegurney9278Gurney 👋
Thanks Ian Stewart for your vision of bringing your band and it's merry men to the fore.
Bless Charlie and Brian.
RIP
What an honest, touching interview. Thank you.
Such a gracious Rock Star humbling experience seen at least a half dozen times, always great in Michigan Always
And I was the 1st kid in America to recognize him, on 48th St., in NYC when I was buying my first electric....he signed his autograph "of the Rolling Stones"
A master at his craft. Thank you, Charlie.
Wonderful! 💗🌹
Mick wasn't flashing Charlie, he was complaining about how hot it was, and Charlie reacting is him reacting to the heat. It was due to the lighting that Scorsese was using.
How awesome that you were there!
Such an Authentic Human... Thank you Charlie...RIP!!!
Love you Charlie. RIP
Frank 👋
Thanks Pal.
Sometimes the harder you try to hold onto everything it just disappears in the end.I thought the Stones would last forever with Charlie.
Life has a funny way of teaching us that everything dies in the end.Mortality is fleeting...hang on to your dreams.RIP Charlie Watts ( A humble man of extraordinary talent who will be greatly missed)
Check out “Atlantic City” performed by John Anderson. Springsteen wrote it, but Anderson delivers it. You can find it on UA-cam. You just about wrote a key line in the song in your post
The black n white video that says “cover” ✌️
@@sharecroppersmule7361 Nice cover my friend.Like the bruce Album.
@@reekashade Used to like it. Considering what a raging libtard Springsteen has become, I find Nebraska to be unlistenable now. Glad this video featured a real man in Charlie Watts, now a phony globalist turd like Bruce. RIP Charlie.
@@chuckhutton5087 I feel the same way,his politics gets in the way.Hollywood sucks too!
What a real gentleman. He shows that true greatness can be humble. RIP Mr Watts

He was a very humble man. A family man till the end. Married to the same woman for more years than some of us have lived on this planet.
Long live Charlie W. and the RS, worlds greatest rock roll band!
Excellent posting!
It was no shock when Moonie and later Bonzo passed. Neil and Charlie, though...wish they could've stayed around forever.
Thank you for your encouragement and support, my dear friend! It really means a lot to me!!
The coolest of the Stones by far!
By a long long way.
A quiet man in a loud band, and it worked out great for him. Rock In Peace Charlie!

Rest in peace you one of a kind legend. 💕 Condolences to his immediate family and his Rolling Stones family, which also refers to anyone who reads this.
Charlie has always been one of my favorite drummers. He just had that feel when he played.

Charlie Watts was always honest in his interviews about himself. He was by all accounts a down to earth man, never a rock star type, just an honest musician who never took himself too seriously.

I never knew where the screaming would get anyone. Charlie Watts was such a ladies man. He was lucky to find someone to love him and stay with him all these years. 😇
Screaming was the young females adoration of the band, he wasn't a ladies man at all, he was faithful to one woman all of his life
Nice one.....
Charlie will live on in my Home
Take care up there Birdy….
Your cute 👋
We all loved you Charlie 😎☺️🇮🇪🤐
Charlie watts lived an idyllic charmed life...he admitted his sin to drugs but won at the end....R.I.P. charlie....

I know I am not alone in feeling like I lost a friend.....
I read once jagger was saying where is my fucking drummer? Charlie heard this as he was in bed at the time, he calmy got up, got dressed, walked downstairs, punched jagger in his face, and said I'm not your fucking drummer

RIP Charlie Watts
Charlie is a fuckin LEGEND ! The rhythm section with him, Keith, and Bill Wyman is one of the best ever. RIP Charlie Watts !
The best concert i was at. To be fair they are one of my favorite bands. I started listening to them at age 6.
True old school musician and epitome of the true English gent and my favourite Stone . Not met him ( wish I had) but got friends who live near his farm in Devon and they say he was a quiet, unassuming and very down earth bloke who would nevertheless stop and chat and was not affected or up himself in any way.
He liked to take walks and go shopping in the town.
Watts said he nearly lost it all.
Bad boy founder Brian Jones sure did.
Oldsters remember the British invasion.
Peter 👋
Seems like a humble, down to earth indiviual in this and any other interview I have seen of his.RIP Charlie
Charlie fue un caballero elegante, un buen hombre con una gran fortaleza. Descansa en paz.
Say what 😁
A life lived to its fullest with the best and worst.I wasnt surprised with his honesty at his age who cares what you admit as being your story, its who you are and have been.Rip charlie.
We all used to chant Charlie Charlie at gigs in the early days. We saw ourselves more in Charlie. We weren’t as Flamboyant as Mick and really we didn’t want to be. We were working class and we had our feet in full contact with the Earth and Charlie… Charlie was the heart beat, for the Stones and for us. A first rate geezer.
What a great person Charlie was. Rip in peace Charlie.
The kindness, honesty of this man is only second to that of Keith Richards. Bless them.
R.I.P. Mr. Watts.
Rest In Peace Charlie.
You will be missed.
I'm sad that I've only recently started to watch his interviews and get to know him. What an interesting man. He is as important in the Rolling Stones as Mick and the others.
Thanks for that, hit home and gave hope.
