I'm from South Africa and in My final year at School They performed in South Africa for the First Time. It was 1995. There was one Girl who would tell Me that Charlie and Keith were the Sexy Ones
Charlie Watts THE LEGEND. He lived in my neck of the woods and had encountered him and his wife on two occasions. Absolutely lovely family and a true country gentleman at heart.
I think Chris Evans question to Charlie Watts "Do you ever think you were miscast being in the Rolling Stones?" is so offensive and ignorant and plain rude. He obviously has no idea how much all that great music over the past 50 years depends on Charlies groove & sound!
Even when you only look at it image-wise, which he obviously does, Charlie is the perfect fit for the Stones. Their characters and personal style are rather different, but they're nevertheless a unit (most of the time), which is a big part of their appeal.
I felt like I lost family when he just passed. I don't understand it but obviously it's not just me. Miss him terribly. They are not The Stones without him. In my opinion. 😪
I love how Keef is sitting on something resembling a plain old kitchen chair... then notice the crew have brought in a huge luxurious looking white leather number for Charlie! And so they should've!
I hate to spoil it for you, but these off-camera laughs are done purposefully by certain tv shows in order to make the show seem funnier than it is. It's a trick that I first remember seeing on Tiswas (which helped it gather an adult, as well as a kids audience). This laughter would never happen unless it was okayed by the producers. (it's very easy to laugh without it being picked up by the microphones)
Billy Unterbuchna. Charlie will make ANYONE laugh with his brilliant deadpan wit Evans "Do you feel miscast in the band?" Charlie "You mean should I have been the singer?" There was genuine spontaneous laughter during these interviews. Do you always try to suck the life out things?
@@petermills542 He only stopped smoking as of recently, and he drank up until the last American tour. Hell, he was drinking liquor during the Covid lockdown concert, I saw the mixed drink on the table when he was playing acoustic
Charlie caught that question on being miscast in a millisecond and responded hilariously. What he said about his wife saying ''You don't do anything'', he knew that could be taken several ways. Very highly skilled in the double entendre and polite yet sarcastic rebuttal. Ronnie gets hit with that how long he's been there thing way too much. That guy cut his teeth in the London thing long before the Stones and he was kind of THE GUY in that whole scene years before there was an opening with them so it's more a footnote that he wasn't there because he was busy being a foot soldier for the entirety of ragged bluesy folk rock even while the Stones were taking time out of that headspace for testing out other genres, in a way they came to him not the other way around. It would have been similar to them choosing Jeff Beck, who also had his own thing going on long before the mid 1970s rolled around. In a way, Ronnie was the guy they were waiting for the whole time. And, think about it, he's the only thing that ever cemented their style, before he joined they were all over the map stylistically floating somewhere between all the big British groups that came and went. All else said, fun guys whose job it was for along time to help people have fun. I've always said it and always will, you can not like the Stones' music, you can even critique their personal lives or whatever but you have to respect their work ethic and their characters. They could each have quit decades ago to stick their toes in the sand on some super rich paradise island somewhere but they chose to keep doing that thing that's, in the end, kind of insane and not very easy to deal with.
What an amazing interview! I never, in all my year’s, thought that I’d live to see the day when Keith wasn’t smoking a cigarette and Evans was keeping his mouth shut for more than 30 seconds! Amazing!!
After I scrolled through the comments I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who thought the two interviewers were pretty awful. I thought maybe it's just me at first. I couldn't quite figure out why they were irritating to me, but the questions they asked were just plain idiotic. And then there's the general off-putting demeanor they both have that didn't help matters.
It depended ENTIRELY on Charlie, he is the ignition point, listen to Keefs definition of "Almost Made Me Sigh" , while Mick made it somewhat more presentable, Charlie made it Beautiful, Hearable, and without Charlie, there wouldn't be The Rolling Stones, jus sayin !😈!

Chris. Why would Charlie want to be in another band. Chris...you normally do a brilliant interview but that was a rubbish question to ask. Sounds like you didn't do your research. Stones are one of the biggest bands and a lot of that is down to Charlie watts

Never seen a picture of MJ with that expression @2:45 As Londoners, Stones saw Beatles as hicks. But the hicks were the greatest band ever. Macca's just as ruthless as MJ, maybe more so. Peas in a pod.
Best thing to ever happen for the stones was Taylor leaving, he just didn't suit the band, he looked like a fish out of water playing with them. But Ronnie is rolling stones, he was the best choice for that band
Nope. Ronnie's great, but Mick Taylor was involved with so many of the classics, you can't even compare the two. He is technically better, and, straight from Jagger's mouth: “I think he had a big contribution,” Mick Jagger told Rolling Stone in 1995. “He made it very musical. He was a very fluent, melodic player, which we never had, and we don’t have now. Neither Keith nor Ronnie plays that kind of style.” “It was very good for me working with him,” added the singer. “I could sit down with Mick Taylor, and he would play very fluid lines against my vocals. He was exciting, and he was very pretty, and it gave me something to follow, to bang off. Some people think that’s the best version of the band that existed.”
Mick Taylor’s one of the greatest guitarists the UK has ever produced. No accident the Stones 4 classic albums appeared over his period of involvement.
Charlie Watts looked middle-aged in that photo of him when he was 12, yet now he's aged the best out of the Stones by far and looks absolutely terrific for a man in his mid-70s.
I wonder when they're going to make Darryl Jones, their bass player for over 25 years, an official member rather than a paid employee? Surely he's more than proven himself worthy.
I Love Keef ... Hey Man!!! No more bumps for you since yer Brain surgery I'll go ahead and have For you mate. Love your playing. High and Lonesome- most excellent LP.
