The perks of going along way out in the wilderness is, that the white coats can't see your crazy. Thanks Shug that looked like a lot of fun.
The white coats often nab the wrong folk. But I am wily!
White coats been captured by Mr Beast inside. They just need company,...sad story really.
Stay FREE, WHOOO BUDDY!!!
@@G8rquest I like the pink coats. They bring treats~~
When there's no one else available to go with, sometimes you just gotta go or it'll never happen. That's hard work going through snow that deep. Sitting out on that lake and enjoying the quiet- it made me take a deep sigh, wishing I was out there. Thanks for sharing with us and I'm glad you were safe.
I do love a solo. Then a trip or two with friends. Then a solo. Solo is easier to film as I can stop and set shots without holding everyone up. Those moments of quiet on the lake were the reason I went. Kinda love the world again. For now.
@@shugemery I know exactly how you feel :)
@@shugemery Methinks the world is not the problem. People are. Glad you found some peaceful solitude.
@@MikeycatOutdoors I'd say a combination of both from my end.
"Breakin snow the whole time"
Sets up a shot across pristine, untracked snow. Whoo buddy that's some cinematography forethought. Thank you for the effort you put into these!
I noticed it also. Ice crystals glimmering in the sun.
You never know how a shot will come out and that one I was happy with. My favorite shot was the pan across lake at sunset with snowshoes stuck in snow and mukluk liner drying out on top.
Feeding wild birds.. that deserves a "thumbs up" 🙂
A bird in the hand as they say....
The cocoon of cozy comfort 😁
My happy spot.
That cover of Whipping Post was actually great. Love the content, shug!
Thankee. A night jam up at the lake in Winter.
Great video! Always enjoy the Bean cameo's too.
Whooooo Buddy)))) I have Bean until end of May.
Aahhh whipping post.. Great classic to use...
Thank. Me and some friends picking it up at the lake one winter's eve,,,,,soundcloud.com/seanemery2/whipping-post-5-minute-version?in=seanemery2/sets/sean-kelsey-and-timmy-tunes&
I went snow shoeing with my dad today it was a good hike on top of 4 feet of snow
Whoa! goodndeep.
Love Whipping Post! Good cover, brother!
Thanks feller. That was a good jam night!
That music at 1:40 with the pulk.... Magical! Whoooooo buddy
Merci~~!
You are a true entertainer, while giving us a break from a hectic, stressful world!
I am ignoring most parts of the World most of the time. Thankee.
Excellent video!
Thanks and thankee.
I 'am in favor of making this video the best one. Here it is August and I'm doing my snow dance already because I watched this video. Thanks Shug. You the The barista of the great white north.
That was one of my favorite winter trips ever. Thankee.
Every video you make is incredible, but then the next one I watch tops the last one. Thank you for taking the time to bring us along on adventures that some of us will never go on.
I like talking to the camera out there. Seems better than talking to myself~~
Loved that version of Whipping Post!
Thanks feller. Here is cut of us jamming it.....soundcloud.com/seanemery2/whipping-post-5-minute-version?in=seanemery2/sets/sean-kelsey-and-timmy-tunes&
Happy Birthday Shug 🎂. Thank you for sharing all your wisdom and adventures. You’re an amazing man.
Thanks....not my Birthday until May though. Lets not rush me turning 64~~~~
That my friend was world class
Mucho Appreciato~~
I live in Mississippi and cannot even imagine those temps. A camp fire must feel so amazing!!!
It sure did~~~
Outstanding!! Had me totally captivated from the git-go, grinning and laughing out loud. Loved it!!!
Mucho appreciato for the goodly words.
Best channel on UA-cam, great video!
'preciate the good words.
That made for a wonderful morning! Thanks Shug.
Y'elcome and Whooooo Buddy))))
I take a strange comfort in knowing that shug is out there wandering around the boundary waters wilderness at the end of feb. with -30f nights. I am also concerned for his sanity… but mostly am comforted.
My sanity is checked because I did this. Sanity is over-rated anyhow.....!
@@shugemery I have three boys and last night I told them a story about a man named shug. Clown for half the year, explorer of the frozen wilderness for the other. They loved it!
Good trip, god bless
Thankee. He did.
You come so damn close to making it look fun. I will simply have to live vicariously. Adventure lives. Thank you.
Not sure it is fun...but it is peaceful.
Had to stop and comment about the phone bag- I made one, too, last December for going snow tracking. Made out of felt, and made the rim out of alum tawed squirrel skin ( I tanned it a while ago). I hang it around my neck to keep the phone warm, and store a stylus for making GPS location and notes on tracks we see on the app we use. Best thing ever! So when you mentioned yours, I had to laugh, because until someone told me to get a neck pouch to keep my phone warm, I had not thought of that! And rather than buy one, I had to make one. Of course. 😂
I'll use mine again. A few tweaks but did its job. Fun to make right?
Some of the best content from you sir, thank you for sharing your adventures. Im glad to be alive during the same time as you sir
A humble thankee.
You really are an inspiration to me sir. Hopefully someday I get to the same position in life. Happy hiking
Same position in life?...you mean 63 and retired?!
Did I just see you shivering at 9:44? :) Great video as usual Shug! Cheers, Dave.
I wasn't but my camera was! It gets cold.
@@shugemery Lol :) Aye, it looked a bit nippy.
That was awesome Shug! Thanks for sharing!!!
Y'elcome and Whooooo Buddy))))
I spent last night at Harriman (NY) and I come home to find a new upload from Shug! Thank you as always.
Hope it was a right goodie.
EERRRLY! love it

Love your videos Bud. Thanks so much for making and sharing.
I really enjoyed making and editing this one. Thankee.
Great video Shug! It looked like a lot of fun!
Not sure fun is the word. Adventure, challenge, peace, serenity and tons of work are more fitting. I don't ever think backpacking is fun. Roller coasters are fun!!!
You sure are fun to watch. Truly the life of the party!
Mike in Oregon
Thankee Mike
Bean is adorable.
He sure is a character. Needy and sweet. Hates winter!
you convinced me to go with the superior hammock for my set up, it looks so cozy
Nice. I really like mine and they have been my go-to especially for Winter trips like this. Thankee.
Wow that grey Jay at 2:25, they are bigger than I thought!
At 3:52 "Whooohoo yeah buddy" that's a new one! Hahaha
At 16:43, that Silence of the lambs impression was dead on! Hahaha made my day
Well done Agent Starling.
Loved this one Shug. Some beautiful shots on the lake.
Thanks. I too loved it.
Shug, You are a breath of fresh air in this crazy world. Thanks
Aw thanks
Shug this was really great to watch. thanks for sharing the tips & tricks. Did time in the Marine Corps & got to go to Norway. We saw -40 degrees & slept out in it in sleeping system we had. Our rule was eat and get in the bag it was really an experience to test the gear as you often do. Thanks again for the video always a treat.
Minus 40 is no joke. Exciting!! Whoooooo Buddy))))...ua-cam.com/video/CTuGJgka1qc/v-deo.html
Shugity shug shug... back at it where you belong. Loved this! It took me back to when you and strung out were there years ago. You still got it!
Hope to see ya again at the state fair!
It reminded me of that except I had to do all the work.
No state fair for me as I retired my act during the pandemic.
Thanks Shug, great video with some fine cinematic sequences. I beat you to the 'early' for a change 😅😂😅 Stay safe👍
Great thing about a solo is time to film without holding everyone up. Thankee. My favorite shot was the evening pan across the lake with the snowshoes sticking out of the snow. Had no idea it would look that cool.
That is definitely a chilling night; you almost beat your record low temperature personal best. That is cold when maple syrup is frozen! Thanks for taking us along with your adventure! Whoooo Buddy))))
Almost. At that point 9º does not make too much difference I imagine. I think you sent me that fuel container that is now my syrup container. Froze super rock hard.
You always manage to find the best spots. Thank you so much for sharing your trip. God bless and stay safe.
That was a spot I had scouted out before. Gets sun all day so was a top spot for sure.
Taking my hammock out for the first time soon. Been binge watching hammock videos so obviously shug has been on . Thanks for the instructional videos they've helped a ton
Enjoy the hammock quest. Be patient with it and good sleep will come to you.
WOW you have had some great shots over the years, but having that bird feed from the hand might be the coolest.
This clip is one of my treasures too......ua-cam.com/video/sJDvW5pmobk/v-deo.html
Shug, This is BillyBob58. You are your usual mind blowing self. I love it! You once gave me a great honor/shout out by calling me "the Potentate of the Pea Pod", or something like that. Now I am, at least partly based on your adventures, using a Superior Gear 30F hammock. And eyeballing one of their comforters. Now you, Sir, are the unquestioned Potentate of the insulated hammock! Thanks for the report on yet another spectacular trip!
It is so nice to get in and know that I am going to be warm underneath and no fussing about or tweaking. Worth the price.
@@shugemery I agree.
Those Gray Jays are cool ! Speaking of which , sounds like it was pretty cool during the darkness hrs :D Sometimes solitude is great . Looked beautiful . Hope M- King is doing good . Stay safe out there folks ... Gubs
I love those birds. Only ever see them up there.
Your videos always brighten my day Shug. Thank you
Thanks feller.
SE SHUG - I enjoyed the video, winter tips and items used. All the beautiful scenery and the much needed lollygagging & spam time. We missed you at Yates but our low was only 19f the last night and rain storms Sat night. Typical NC weather (all four seasons in one weekend) Lol Hope you had fun and continue to enjoy retirement. I recommend it to anyone..... Later Gator ~MooseMan
Thankee Mr. Moose. Hope to make that hang again someday. Retirement keeps me too busy to do all I thought I wanted too.
13:19 Your shout of "Oh, Glory!" made me instantly envious for that unique feeling of satisfaction! So many of life's pleasures are intertwined with negatives, and enhanced by adversity. I know how good a sip of hot coffee feels on a cold day, but few people know how it feels after a -31 F night, when it's still that cold. I need to get back outside and face some adversity to make my coffee taste better!
Never tastes better than from a warm hammock in the frosty forest. I love that moment. Thankee
The quiet stillness of the north woods. Great escape from the chaos. All good in the hood at Ft. Shug.
So true.
Fantastic video once again. Looked like an amazing trip. Cheers!
Just got all unpacked today!
I'm here EARLY ! Glad to see you up and about Shug.
I did decide to get out of my recliner....
Thank'YOU Shug❣️ Sector 7👍🤣
Whooooo Buddy))))
It's like I want to be out there but my brain says "nah, ya dont, you know you hate cold except when you're perched on the couch, with the heater on and wearing fluffy pajamas". But...it looks inviting. Hope you have many more such very enjoyable adventures. Envy the spam cos I love it. Cheers 🍻
My most enjoyable solo trip in quite a while! Freeze some Spam and try it....
Whooooooo buddy! Thanks for sharing the frosty adventures! All secure in Sector Montana. ☕❄
Whoooooo Buddy))))
nice video, Mr Shug.
I thankee.
Mid-80s here this past weekend. I can't even imagine weather that cold.
80s seem strange to me right now. haaaa
@@shugemery It would give you the vapors.
@@ckhenson seeing the ground would be amazing. Miss it when it is covered!
The cam on the sled is so great. I feel like being saved by Shug :D
The bill is in the mail. Hope you have good insurance!!! haaaa
That looked mighty peaceful up there Shug. As always, thanks for sharing.
Truly. Truly was.
It's good to see a man enjoying himself in the wilderness. We're never really alone in the forest even when we are by ourself. Nicely done, Shug. Thank you.
I did not feel alone. I swear I heard voices of the wood nymphs back deep in the woods.
I greatly appreciate the celsius conversions shug, thanks for lookin out for your canadian fanbase!
Well....Canada and the rest of the planet!...'eh?
@@shugemery yeah, you are correct there bud, I should have known eh!?
One of my favorite trip videos of yours Shug! And thank you for rollin’ that extra beautiful bean footage!
Bean is my muse for a few more months. Love my grand-dog.
Love the army fleece jacket
Me too!
Shug packing in a Klondike bar! That made me laugh! I love it!! I would have never thought of that!!
What a treat it was out there!
Wow, maybe it Is time for a solo trip. Wow, looks like quite an adventure.
I did take a four night trip with thirteenth teenagers. We paddled, canoes, about twenty eight miles in north Florida. We saw osprey, Manatees, ibis, herons, egret, o e alligator and heard owls and coyotes. Thanks for the inspiring video!
13 teenagers! Wow!!! Gives me hives thinking about doing that....haaaa
Hey Shug, as ever love your video. When I see you have one out, I set aside some quiet time in my man cave and hunker down to enjoy it. Your videos have given me the joy of hanging for the last 2 years, helped me understand the gear but more importantly understanding the joy of being out on my own. I’ve built quite a collection of rigs including an XLC with Wooky, the obvious ENO, Hennessy, Hummingbird now waiting on a Superior Hammocks setup. It would be great to get your overview of all your setups and which you prefer for what occasions. I can see me not using anything else when this superior hammock arrives with the built in insulation - not sure if the others will see much ‘me time’ and starting to feel sorry for them already. Anyhow, so many thanks from the UK 🙏
I kinda did some vids alluding to that....ua-cam.com/video/cFHknG1IMKc/v-deo.html
and ua-cam.com/video/igQjmjkkUpE/v-deo.html
The hammock that calls to me comes with me.
Bean!! Thanks Shug for the trip. It has been 9 years since I have seen snow.
I need trips like this to appreciate snow.
@@shugemery feeling a little ashamed that in 9k views, everyone noticed Bean and not many noticed the wife. Give the wife a big hug and kiss from us.
@@EugeneJrFolse Haaa....well only saw her fro the knees down!
You make fantastically enjoyable videos! And your hammock skills are unequaled. Thanks for sharing, Shug!
Thank you very much! Whoooooo Buddy))))
There’s nothing like the solitude and peaceful feeling that you get when out in the woods. I find that when I go out by myself there are moments that you discover that you may have missed compared to when you go with others. Love your video, I miss the snow!
Yessir. I find I can focus a bit better on the moment.
Great video! I also enjoyed The Backpackers Podcast. JK and Jeremiah do a great job.
I enjoyed being on their show. Thanks for the good words.
As a fellow Twin Cities resident I love watching your northern MN videos - I relate so much to the early, EARLY, departure times! It's also really fun to see all the sites I've also visited through another set of eyes. Thank you so much for all your hard work, it's a privilege to come along on your trips!
Worst part is the EARLY morning hump to get up there before the short day is gone. Different world up there though.
You remind me of Ira Louvin. Thanks again for your all of your vids! More mandolin vids please!!
Good ol' Ira! Quite a compliment though I'm just a hack picker.....ua-cam.com/play/PL966F84D9A21266A4.html

It is a right goodie for sure.
You never disappoint, great video. 👍
Lots of work, but peaceful. The food looked delicious, as always. The views from camp looked absolutely beautiful.
You can take Shug out of the circus, but you can't take the circus out of Shug. Enjoyed watching. Thank you for sharing, take care Shug. 🇺🇲
BRING BACK PEANUT BUTTER POPTARTS.
No. Circus is built in forever. It runs deep. Thankee. Loved this trip so.
I'm impressed, a new fan! I came to learn about hammock camping, but stayed for the adventure!
I loved that trip so much. Enjoy your hammock quest and be patient.
Meg goes on a cruise, you go camping in sub zero. Ha!!
Sky so blue over the frozen lake.
Hungry Bean then snoozeville.
Love it!
Yessir...Meg and I got a lotta range there!!!
Great video cuz
Hey Cuz. I went just cuz.
That was some awesome below zero, lone camping! You worked pretty hard on this trip. All worth it Shug! I enjoyed this video! I like your Sector 7 jacket. Commander Bean just loves his meal. Dancing and leaping displaying his agility and excitement.
Sector 7 all secured.
👍
You recognized my efforts! haaa
I may no longer be the Lord of Lollygag.
Everytime Bean eats it is like the first time he has ever has food!!!!
Now you did it Shug! Haven’t been out since last November. Gotta get some winter hanging in before it’s too late.
Thanks for the great video and inspiration Buddy. 👍🏼😎
Yessir....you need to pack and go!
First time watching your videos I have to say it was the most entertaining camping video I've seen real enjoyable I watch a lot of them. You have a good system for cold weather camping took away a few good ideas 👍 Thanks be safe out there.
Thankee feller and thanks for the good words.
I love my solo trips. So much time to get my head straight and simplify my life. I can even sleep in if desired or get up and go early…early!
You know it. Easier to film too without slowing anyone down.
Shug you are Mr Winter! You've pretty much convinced me to buy the superior hammock with the built-in under quilt as my first hammock this coming fall. I live in upstate New York just below the Adirondacks (Where I usually hike and camp in a tent) and I'm thinking that the 15° is going to be just perfect. Thanks for all your videos, You're an inspiration!
Give Danny at SG a call and talk over your needs. I recommend them. The UQ is no hassle. Perfect everytime. Just migrate your down to where you want it most.

that is crazy cold sir and i have to say your crazy for going out in it . thanks for the video. I guess if your ready for that kind of cold you can manage.
That is fun other-wordly kinda cold. Now we are just muddy and 34º...don't care for that as much.

But Can’t drive too far from Chicago every weekend because of work and school.
I love all your winter camping videos, I’ve learned a lot. I would definitely plan some trips up north.
wish I was there too, Shug. thanks for taking us into the cold, quiet, pristine beauty of winter outdoors.
It was my favorite trip in quite a while.
Beautiful Places and Smiling Faces. Awesome Place to live. I miss Seeing snow, we get a little here in central SC. Usually a dusting. I got to see the real stuff, dusting doesn't really count. Thanks Brother for another Sector 7 Video. Cheers.
But it sure is fun when it snows in SC. Snow cream!
You are one amazing dude. Thanks for sharing.
Aw shucks....

AWESOME!! Thanks for sharing!!
Whooooo Buddy.
When you have the right gear and techniques, the cold isn’t too bad especially with no wind. The solitude of winter camping is worth the effort. The trees really pop away like firecrackers when the temps drop. Nice place, great camp and video. I love your equipment
Good gear is right. Mindset is important too. Have to feel confident but not cocky. And then enjoy that frosty forest. Thankee.
Love seeing you enjoy your coffee from the hammock, it's like listening to rain hit a tin roof or being next to a fireplace while it snows outside. And your videos is the only place where a person can get good info on poptart malleability these days.
Glad you appreciated the malleability report 🥶
Always enjoy your adventures ! Winter camping is a totally different beast. Especially when going solo. Thanks for sharing. Take care and stay safe.
