Paid for the upgrade and regret it, still not fully working, still has the double presets problem from 2 and yes I did every fix and there’s still doubles. And it also still crashes FLStudio and LUNA. MIDI controller also still has notes getting stuck just like 2. I’m done with it, I need something I CAN USE, NOT HAVE MY TIME WASTED.🫡✌🏽
@FoliaSound thanks so much for your review. I have a couple of comments on your review: 1. Regarding the filters: I haven't changed anything in the filter code. They are the same as SynthMaster One and SynthMaster 2.9 2. Regarding FX: This is one area I wasn't able to work on. Still the same basic FX we had 10 years ago. I couldn't find time to work on that part, that was the issue. But I will improve the FX section in the coming years, promise. 3. Being a scaled down version of PP / Avenger: Well, for FX that is definitely true. But there are areas SynthMaster excels them. Like: 1. Being modular 2. Having a wavetable editor like Vital 3. Having a multisample editor (this was not shown in the review, but that's OK), 4. Having separate Arp & Seq per layer
I used Synthmaster 1 and 2 in my productions and don’t think that they were boring at all. I find it also a kind of funny to evaluate a plugin based on the capabilities for EDM. If this is the goal just stick to Sylenth, I never saw a more boring synth in my life. I am not sure if a comparison between Avenger and Synthmaster 3 is correct since Avenger is more sample based even though not a Rompler like Nexus but a relevant)). However, I will give SM3 a fair chance.
For me SM2 was a headache to use. It always seemed like a work in progress though I did like the presets. I always thought they sounded bland on purpose so its easier to mix with. SM3 to me sounds just a tad bit better but the workflow improvement is EXTRAORDINARY. Not to mention you can load sfz files and edit them, layer oscillators and more layers to your hearts content and the granular portion males it a ppwerhouse. If it had better effects (that reverb has always been trash) it would be the best synth for its price range.
Thanks for sharing. I find that layering multiple SM2 patches inside Unify yields some very rich sounds. Now, with the ability to layer SM2 presets in SM3 (plus the addition of granular) I'm considering adding SM3. to my other 300+ VIs).
Interesting. I had the same feelings about Synthmaster2 which didn't catch me and I always preferred SynthmasterOne. SynthmasterOne is now part of synthmaster3. I like that.
I'm not a user of Phase Plant or Avenger so can't offer any thoughts on comparisons to those two products. However as a long-term user of SM2 and it's younger cousin SM-One (nI don't find their sounds boring at all) I'm really impressed with the new capability - but I've only just installed.....and I think I'll watch the 6 or 7 hours (OMG!) of tutorials before I go wandering too far LOL! However, for others like me who already have the SM "everything" bundle edition, I was totally stoked that SM3 is also included in that bundle (ie, free!) I was also really stoked (and eternally grateful) that all my old preset packs from SM 2 and SM-One downloaded in the background automatically after I ran it in my DAW for the first time, and also retained all the presets I'd flagged as favourites (that is REALLY nice, SM Team!!!) Also, installation was easy and painless.
Hi 3Oct24. I'm thinking of selling my Roland guitar synth and getting Fishman with my ipad. Have you noticed a list of classic instruments like trumpet, jazz organ, flute etc on Synthmaster 3? I'd be interested in your opinion about Synmstr on iPad with external midi. Thanks for your review. Well done.
I love how deep this synth is, while keeping the UI very approachable. By adding only the modules you need, you aren't cluttering up the interface. I will say that the SM2 factory presets were mediocre. However, the SM2 expansion packs have many excellent presets. The filters that were present in SM2 are unchanged in SM3, and it is notable that SM1 and SM2 presets can be loaded into SM3 and they still sound the same. So, IMO, if you judged SM2 solely by its factory presets, you were perhaps being a bit unfair regarding it's sound quality.
Listened to demoed previous versions of Synthmaster. Was underwhelmed. Synthmaster 3 is an entirely different beast, IMO. Bought it immediately in the beta. Extremely usable regardless of the genre. Big fan.
I actually really like synthmaster. It's not expensive and it has a different character/tone compared to my hundred other softsynths... I'm of the opinion that if it grabs me, it's worth it... the sound designers work wonders (Big Tone, Aiyn Zahev, New Loops etc.). Thank you for the review. Greatful for your incites into all this wonderful world of software. Love it.... 😉
It's not bad. I am not buying anything but I was curious about the new Synthmaster. The big question is does it add something to what we already have? The lay out is a little bit crowded and unattractive. I prefer something with more pages and less clutter. I think as capability is pretty capable. I'll give it 7 out of 10 the most just because doesn't make me want to work on it.
Synthmaster 2 does have good presets, but there was stuff that didn't really work in any genre. The DnB options were also lacking despite having a whole preset bank devoted to the genre (Most of that is made with samples and post processing anyway). I don't know how anyone could use most of the features in it because the interface was terrible. Synthmaster 1 had this problem too, it was even more confusing to get deep with. SM3 looks like they loaded it with REALLY good presets and its easier to use
Version 2.9 works best for me, but one of the older ones.. I remember the Burak Yeter version, but unfortunately in Cubase I had problems with this version... The Peak indicator jumped like crazy even when the sound changed. It didn't work well in the latest version either. If this is the final version, maybe it has been corrected. However, version 2.8 as well as Synthmaster One have always worked without a problem.
I was never wowed by Synthmaster One or Synthmaster 2. Synthmaster 3 is nice, but the layout is busy, and it's CPU heavy on both of my machines (Ryzen 9 7900x and i9 13900). And, it doesn't really do anything that I can't do with stuff I already own. So, soft pass on my part.
Tested it also - additiv is too complicated (still looking for a Morphine competitor), vector osc morphing couldn’t be automated. Too completed in general. meh - maybe they get me with their presetpacks to update…
Personally I find that Avenger, Pigments and Phase Plant all have a much harder more digital sound than Synthmaster 3. 3 Is not all that analog sounding but somewhere between Analog and the above mentioned. As someone who literally has - almost - every soft synth on the market the new Synthmaster - when I’m looking for that sound - is up there with the best of them IMO:) I saw a graffiti once where someone had written ‘I like grils (sic)!’ Realized their mistake and crossed out ‘Grils’ and written correctly ‘Girls’. Some other person had written underneath that ‘What’s wrong with us Grils?’ That’s a little how I feel about statements like ‘It sounds a little plasticy.’ What’s wrong with a little plastic:)))))) Nice review as ever:)
@@inquilinox de acuerdo que los presets no son como la de la competencia pero suena muy muy bien y tiene muy buenos filtros, algo vital para entregar cuerpo. Te lo recomiendo. Ahora es más completo que nunca.

@@kv331audio Thanks. I didnt see any demonstration of that here so was curious because Vital does so much of the basic stuff. I dont care too much about presets personally. They always sound nice but rarely work well in a project. The arp per layer sounds quite interesting as well as midi per layer as well.

Phaseplant is a bit “plastic” or digital sounding, but can be pretty powerful and make some cool sounds. I would like to try Avenger.

Sample import looks god in .sfz format. If pigments had this I would be very happy, 6 samples in pigments is not enough.
I tried the first version and it felt like my cable tv, hundreds channels and nothing to see… and that was it.

What does this provide that that you cant already get for free with Vital and the Kilohearts free essentials?
Multi-layer architecture

Granular oscillator
VAnalog oscillator
Separate arp & seq for each layer (create a chord progression with the seq for instance and pass it through the arp)
MIDI Out for layer arp & seq
