In regard to prescriptions, you can be exempt from the charge in England under certain circumstances: age 60 or over, under 16, 16-18 in full-time education, pregnant or have had a baby in the previous 12 months, have a medical exemption certificate, have a war pension, are an NHS inpatient or have an HC2 certificate due to poverty. North American banking, telecoms and tipping are terrible for customers. Healthy ready meals are particularly good for the disabled who cannot cook proper dishes - with that, the NHS, public transport and whatnot, life is a lot easier for people in a rough state over here. (Its somewhat better to just add a name for your residence while still giving the street number in addresses after registering it officially and then just gradually updating your details with companies online - just make your house sign clear.)
Apart from the weather and the close-harmony singing, it's nice to see there are good reasons to live in Wales. My house's name is Slartibartfast, although I may have made that up. As far as I know, there's no hard and fast rule on naming houses in the UK, although many people refrain from using Gerald.
The name thing depends. If it has a house number as well you can call it anything you want. Its like a nickname. If it doesn't have a number as well you have to register the new name. I think there is a small fee. I think you can call it pretty much what you want. They might not accept obscenities
Naming houses can be a minefield, you have to inform your local council and Royal Mail.. Plus your Bank and Utility company's, plus you have to rely on the postman and all delivery persons understanding the new address even so it hasn't changed.. been through it, nightmare......
Your house still has an address but some like to name their home too and it doesn't cost anything but its important that you show the name on the house so postmen can know where to deliver
Hey Megan. Interesting stuff. Banks pay you here to switch to them not take money from you. Train tickets can be cheap. Just did a return from London to Edinburgh for £40. Booked in advance though. Walk up fares are eye watering on some routes though. Oh and yes anyone can rename a property they own. My brother did it recently. A few bits of paperwork to register the change and a couple of months to fully change and you're good.
wait, banks PAY you?! That's crazy! And £40 is very cheap! Booking in advance definitely helps, though. That's so cool about the house naming! It still boggles my mind aha
@@MeganRuth yes bank pay a switching bonus if you switch to them. Usually need to switch 2 direct debits and they close your old bank account. HSBC recently offered £175 to do so. I've made about £1k from doing these switches over the last 18 months. Martin Lewis or Andy Webb talk about it on their websites.
@@MeganRuth that's ok, it's a common mix-up. Unfortunately, many see things strictly black & white and anywhere the word Social appears it's automatically branded as (socialist/communist) which is so far from reality. Being able to get health care without getting into huge debt or even bankrupt is something to be protected. We know our system isn't perfect but, the alternative (the US $ driven system) is a horror in the making.
Manderlay 1938 movie Rebecca the name of my house 🙂.. So this sounds like you're fixed here?? Have you grown disorientated with Canada..Okay a question if you were on your own would you go back to Canada regretting or looking forward to it.. Remember you're on your own???
That's a cool name! And an interesting question. I think if anyone was in a foreign country completely alone they wouldn't be to happy there. However, currently I've made a foundation in the UK that I don't want to leave. The thought of living full time in Canada isn't appealing to me anymore :)
