This is WW1 as Charlie Chaplin first started making films in 1914 and became a big star a year later with the introduction of his Tramp character. Great reaction by the way your laughter was infectious and brought a smile to my face which I needed today
I've just Googled Charlie Chaplin's filmography, as I'm ashamed to admit that I have no idea when he was actually producing content. Was going to say about WWI, but Marty has pipped me to the post here - as have may others, I imagine!
She mentioned Buster Keaton too. To clarify, he started making shorts in 1917 and was part of his family's vaudeville act before that, though he is most known for his movies of the 1920s. At least, if wikipedia is right. Heh. :)
That's because he has a speech impediment and can't pronounce the "b" sound unless he really concentrates on it, with the result that he inadvertently over-emphasizes the sound.
Bob is played by the same actress (Gabriel Glaister) who played bob in the very first episode of Black Adder 2, who ran away with flashheart at the end of the episode.
Of all the Black Adder episodes, this one may be the most hilarious. Especially when Georgina reacted to the question about the General proposing “you didn’t say yes did you?”. All the episodes are epic
It's also an oblique comment on the institutional homo-eroticism practised in private schools. Both this series, and series 3, have references to being ... rearwardly intruded upon by breaded goods.
It's WW1. I think it's your intuition of Chaplin's years that is a little off. He was born in 1889, so was already 25 by the outbreak of WW1 and already had a huge number of films to his name.
Yes def WW1. The moustaches are as niuch a give-away as anything. I've been going through your back catalogue when I'm at a loss for a laugh and I must say your posts are very watchable-againable. Keep delighting us, mighty Megan, More Fawlty please - the best is yet to come.
I love watching your beautiful reactions Megan always when I watch your videos. Blackadder so hilarious and funniest shows of all time which many people outside of Britian here never heard of before! Have a wonderful week! ❤
The whole gender issue is, in part, a comment on a weird thing from early movies where just by dressing like a boy, women were able to fool everyone into thinking they were a boy. You'll find that troupe in a number of Robin Hood movies, I recall it in Thierry le Frond [a kind of French Robin Hood - I used to watch it back in the 60s when I was living in Quebec] and I recall that The Girl of the Golden West had that as a major element and likewise Sylvia Scarlett where Katharine Hepburn played the part of a young lady pretending to be a young man. It always seemed absurd to me because I couldn't imagine that just cutting your hair short and dressing like a boy would fool anyone - at least, not as shown in these movies. More recently you have Yentl as an example of it. Black Adder has used this in more than one season - the lady always seems to call herself Bob and I believe it is always the same actress, though I am less sure of that.
Megan defo first world war ,chaplìn died an old man 1977,chaplin was around in 1914.the slug was offered as a licorice sweet to darling in the end.i hoped you'd realised that because you didn't laugh much, you must of edited it out.lol..
About as long as when father ted had to get out of the aero plane @ 50,000 feet no oxygen minus 70degrees in a wind chill factor going 500 mph.just to fix a fuel leak..
Megan, chaplin out of the equation you should of known this is set in world war one,the uniforms, the trenches, the references, they said ,world war one, fought by lions lead by 🫏 donkeys.the tactics were barbaric, by the time of the second world war the generals showed alittle more empathy..
Both Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton were "silent screen" actors and their films had a big impact during WW1. Yes, this Blackadder series was set during WW1. If you want a real tear jerker, watch the last program of that series, when they all go "over the top". It was a brilliant ending of that reincarnation of Blackadder. Cheers.
@@sillybilly1662 After I had been informed? Who informed me? The confusion I had was when Charlie Chaplin started his career, not whether or not WW2 had trenches.
for God's sake read a history book, talkies came in in 1927 so by 1940 no one was watching Chaplin films Black adder never did WWII the one after this is a stand-alone single episode The Milenial Edition and in the end Black Adder finally wins
Nonsense. Of course people were watching Chaplin films beyond 1927 and still in 1940, e.g The Circus (1928), City Lights (1931), Modern Times (1936), The Great Dictator (1940)..... and into the 60s. Have you not seen or heard of any of those? For God's sake learn to know the subject before spouting rubbish while criticising someone else's ignorance.
Oh dear, what utter nonsense. Best not to criticise others' ignorance when you're so ignorant yourself! Not seen or heard of City Lights (1931), Modern Times (1936), The Great Dictator (1940)?
Sweety, Steven Fry is gay. Back then it wasn't that accepted, but anybody that knew him loved him and still do, but it made it even funnier. I'm not gay, but I love Steven and Rowan etc. The whole group still make the best TV in the world.
This is WW1 as Charlie Chaplin first started making films in 1914 and became a big star a year later with the introduction of his Tramp character. Great reaction by the way your laughter was infectious and brought a smile to my face which I needed today
That’s so interesting! I didn’t know Charlie Chaplin’s career started so early. Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it 😊

Nobody can say "Bob" like Rowan Atkinson
That's because he has a speech impediment and can't pronounce the "b" sound unless he really concentrates on it, with the result that he inadvertently over-emphasizes the sound.
It is WW1, Charlie Chaplin was around in films back then too.
Bob is played by the same actress (Gabriel Glaister) who played bob in the very first episode of Black Adder 2, who ran away with flashheart at the end of the episode.
The comedic acting in this is simply off the scale.
No, this IS WW1 - Charlie Chaplin was at his height of popularity between 1910 and 1920 - so during WW1.
Glad you’re enjoying Blackadder, and now you’re one step closer to not only comedy perfection but IMO Television Perfection
I identify as transparent. I bet you didn't see me coming.
Each series is incredible, they live forever 😊
Of all the Black Adder episodes, this one may be the most hilarious. Especially when Georgina reacted to the question about the General proposing “you didn’t say yes did you?”. All the episodes are epic
The reason General Melchett can’t tell that Georgina is a man and Bob is a woman is pretty clear; he is completely mad.
Baah!!
It's also an oblique comment on the institutional homo-eroticism practised in private schools. Both this series, and series 3, have references to being ... rearwardly intruded upon by breaded goods.
Is he as mad as Mad Jack McMad the winner of last year's Mr Madman competition?
One wears a dress. The other doesn’t. It’s pretty obvious.
Your laugh is a tonic.
It is World War One , I cant think why you thought otherwise.

This is WW1 indeed.
Chaplin was the highest earning British actor in history and this WW1 love
I think George Formby was .....
Brilliant reactions Megan ! Love all Blackadder's, know them off by heart, but your infectious laugh added a new level ! Keep them coming 👍
The more you DON'T know. It is WW1. Charlie Chaplin started early.
Totally unrestrained laughter. Great reaction to this brilliant show.
Chaplain was huge during ww1.
Your infectious laugh brightens my day.
Buster Keaton and Chaplin were popular in SILENT FILMS...1900-1920....
they started in films in the 1910s
Hey Megan your laughter cheers me up no end.
"BAAAAAH"
Some of the humour is silly but try not to miss the satire on the absurdity of war and the English class system.
Blackadder is on my top 5 comedy series ever👌The 4 others are Allo Allo, Seinfeld, Hale And Pace and finally, Keeping Up Appearances
I love Hale and Pace.
I have The Blackadder DVD Boxset and Blackadder Goes Forth is set in WW1
This is 💯% WW1. So glad you're enjoying Slack Bladder eh Darling, yes sir?😂

Great reaction Megan
Glad your Blonde moment didn’t last long definitely WW1 ❤️

it is world war 1, as trench war fare was not in ww2
World War one WW1. 1914-1918. That was trench warfare.
That’s sort of what she said. She was conflicted, thinking Charlie Chaplin was more popular around the late 30s, early 40s.
Play at 1.25 speed
Excellent funreaction as always, just fyi, Charlie chaplni had made dozens of popular films by 1917 so yeah it lts ww1
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it 😊 that’s so interesting! I didn’t know his career started that early
WW1 , trenches , uniforms , Hague the butcher style General etc , obvious .....
Have you slowed this down? Seems off.
WW1
Is hitory taughr in canadian schools ? By mecanismo reacción dosn't seem So
Go back and watch season 1... 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
It is WW1. When did you think Charlie Chaplin was making films? Duh!
You deserve an Oscar…or maybe not…your fake laughter was hilarious to witness …and you persisted with it for 14 whole minutes…bravo…classic
Self promotion but that`s ok.
So you think there were trenches in WW2?😂😂😂
No. I said that at the end of the video 😊
@@MeganRuth ok,lol, after you had been informed.
Don't sound like the yanks lol.😉

There were loads of trenches in WW2 - Everybody dig them anytime there was a position they needed to defend.

The only Charlie Chaplin film I've watched is the Kid and that was released in 1921. Forgive me if I thought his career started in the 1920s
