    I this video is going to be a life saver for me. I just bought a 1997 v10 dodge with a 1995 engine swapped in and they couldnt get it running, doesnt have spark. I can see they messed with the cam sensor wiring and the wiring that goes to the coil packs. If im understanding your video correctly i will have to make sure it has a 1997 cam sensor and it should light. Ill have to see what they did for the EGR, always fun picking up someone elses project.

    The cam gear is different on a OBD 1 and an OBD 11 engine. A pcm on a 97 cannot read the cam sensor from a 94-95. I found out the hard way!!

    Thanks for this video!! Didn't really learn anything about ODB-1 vs. ODB-2 that I didn't already know. But I did learn that my (new to me) truck is apparently missing it's air injection system and the belt tensioner pulley had to be swapped with a grooved one, since it now holds the belt from falling off over on the passenger side. Looks like the tensioner itself is also clocked at a slightly different angle. The bearing on the pulley is also totally shot, so that should be fun to try and find a replacement for!
    Also, crawled underneath and noticed I apparently have three O2 sensors? One at front of each side of a Y-pipe which runs into just one single in / dual out catalytic converter which has a third O2 sensor mounted right near the very front of it?! Seems odd? Every other video I have seen shows dual cats which then run into a dual in / single out muffler? Mine is the opposite. Single output from the cat runs to a single in / dual out muffler (looks like a rusty old MagnaFlow) and then dual exhaust out behind each rear wheel. Clearly the cat-back is aftermarket. But the O2 sensor arrangement has me confused?! If you can shed any light on that.. that would be awesome! It's a 2001 / OBD-2 Dodge Ram 2500.

      Is it federal emissions or California emissions? That would change the 02 sensor layout if I remember correctly to a pre cat and post cat system

    • @Lloyd33
      @Lloyd33 11 місяців тому

      @@BigBeavrSlayer That's where it get's tricky.. I have no idea, because my smog pump bracket is missing! LOL. But I think my truck *was* originally from California! I saw in another video though that stated only the California trucks had dual cats (odd that I apparently watched 3 or 4 different 8.0L V10 exhaust videos that were all CA trucks, but IDK.. *shrugs*). If it was a CA truck, wouldn't there be four O2 sensors total? Would there only be one *after* one cat on one side? It does sort of look like a hole was drilled / sensor bung was welded on to the front of this single cat (which I think is the standard Y-pipe style federal emissions setup)? Seems like putting the sensor before the cat would make it more likely to trigger a code though? IDK. Super confused. It's not currently showing any codes (pending or otherwise). I'm just playing detective trying to figure out what all was done to it previously. I suppose the ECM could have been swapped or reprogrammed as well?

      Obd1 does not have a actual diagnostic port that we can hook up to, but if the check engine light is on then it has codes stored in the computer and you can cycle the key on off on off on watch the check engine light and it will flash a code. Quick blinks represent a number 1-10 so blink blink pause blink blink blink would be a code 23 for example. Then you can look up the code to start diagnosing the problem from there

    Any ideas on bypassing the SMOG air pump or the EGR? I have a 95' and once mine heats up it likes to surge at idle. I can replicate the problem with an MT2500 scanner by activating the EGR Valve. I suspect it has maybe a vacuum leak causing the surge. Also would like to bypass the SMOG pump due to living in a state where emissions testing isnt performed and decreasing potential failure points. Thanks!

    • @BigBeavrSlayer

      You can delete the smog pump on a 95 and run a shorter serpentine belt, the computer doesn't care
      The egr valves is a turd to replace being under the upper plenum, but it has a short section of soft vacuum line that commonly cracks and sucks air, my 95 did that and it caused the egr valve to stick partially open and caked with carbon. Think the new one was like 65$ from rock auto to fix it
