90s vehicles in general were great for that and for the average joe with little mechanical experience to be able to wrench on their vehicle with a simple manual. I completely rebuilt my 94 thunderbird over the years as a teenager. Car served me very well.
I still heavily regret selling my '73 K20. It was nearly perfect, original. Don't go anywhere without a gas can in the back! Would be worth so much right now...
Gotta say I love my 99 Ram V10 wouldn't trade it for much. Even with gas prices going up I'm gonna keep it until it's done forever or I can no longer buy gas for it.
I like seeing the square but from the moment I first heard about Dave's v10 ram I wanted to see a shoot out with a stock first gen Cummins, trying to answer the question whether fuel milage or horsepower, is better smiles per hour. When you look at a spec sheet they're mysteriously well matched.
I'm pretty sure that whoever had the failguy before you owned it, swapped the engine and trans - seeing as how the engine is a centerbolt valve cover - and from what I can see of the intake bolt pattern, those look like TBI/TPI heads.

91 k2500 silverado straight cab 8 ft bed with c6p option, no emissions california legal(will never live there lol) bought it back because 454 w sg465 4 speed has over half a mil miles n runs better than anything ive ever owned. pullin a 28ft camper too.
My half ton 2nd gen 4x4 long bed 5.9 weight is 5240 with me in it I'm 165lb. The fail guy does have better tires but the Dodge does have the stick and it makes a difference off roading.
I'm going with 1995 almost entirely because it is manu0lal. Have 1999 s10 4.3 nv3500, 1995 YJ 2.5 ax5, and finally working on 1982 k10 new 350 tremic 4050. Build was paused for broken ankle.

I've got a 98 3500 4x4 with a V10 and 5 speed. I've had it for 19 years. Same thing, I have thought about getting rid of it many times over the years and just haven't been able to get myself to do it. It has been such a great truck. But, if you put these two against each other pulling, which is what the V10 is for, the chevy doesn't stand a chance.

Those dodges had so much low end torque. They took the 488ci viper block and built it for lots of tq really low. That's why it only has 310hp. They did the same with the 392 in the new cars, instead of 485hp, it's 410 but the tq is by far lower than the other 3. The others have more hp, but if you're farming, dodges are the way to go.

Those square bodies have there following but I’m not one, seems like they always get that crack across the windshield and rust even out here in the west, only plus is that’s a pre 75 so no smog check. Have a 99 dodge ram 4x4 5.9 gas & auto. Good truck but not a classic

Hmmm If I was born earlier enough back then (I’m 26) and I would of been old enough to be able to purchase a vehicle back in early 2000s, I would of tried to special order a hemi ram 1500 with a 5 speed manual! That’s a awesome truck. The 5 speed automatic in my 2003 is fun enough but you can’t not love banging through the gears. Remind you of a old muscle car. Heck they are muscle trucks. The manual makes it really awesome
You couldnt order the hemi 1500 with a manual. Only the hemi 2500 with a nv4500 which was really rare and hard on gas or a 4.7 in the 1500 with a 5 speed / 6 speed which was also hard on gas. Looked many years. Ended up with a Cummins manual
I have a second gen ram and I've owned square body Chevys both are great and very capable but on a long trip the dodge is definitely a more comfortable of the two i would pick up a square body as a weekend toy but daily the ram

Actually, the 70s were probably the Best Decade for pickups period. From the Dodge D&W series and Ramcharger. The Ford F series with 4 different grill and or body styles 70-72 bump side,73-76 dentside 77 1 year only and 78-79 and also big and original Bronco. And the Chevy GMC 70-72 small body and 73 - 79 square body, which to me is better looking than 80s version Blazers included. And don’t overlook the Jeep J series and Cherokee and also the new model Toyota 4x4 straight axle mini truck. Another coolness factor all those Utility had removable roofs.
He is not a fan of diesels. He has said it a few times. It’s pretty common for guys of his generation to feel that way. That had some trash Diesel engines when they were coming up.
@@kevincsitley I think it's also because he works on everything himself. Diesels are much more difficult to work on than gas engines, especially since the 12v stopped production a year before he bought the truck.

I have a 99 Ram V10 2wd as well and it's going to stay with me for a long time to come pulls anything i hook behind it.

Most folks didn't realize the V10s had a higher towing capacity over the Cummins. But the Cummins is much happier towing heavy loads.

I did a overhaul on my v10 and I'm running a 6.71 blower at a very mild 646hp please show us how it's done I know there is alot more potential
The ram may only have like 320hp. but a good 450 torque. and can easily make 500+ torque.
The chevy looks amazing as always but that v10 is a legend
