The ghost singing toward the end was Elizabeth Zharoff (The Charismatic Voice). She’s credited in the information under the video for her voiceovers.
Huge fan of Elizabeth. Her vocal analysis are second to none
I admit that curious to see if Peter recognized Elizabeth's voice.
@@AndieO Apparently not
That’s so cool!
Elizabeth is cool but she doesn’t do that much vocal analysis to be called “second to none”. She’s much more concerned with the overall atmosphere and the instrumentation and the rhythmic features of the piece. She does do a little vocal analysis but she’s not as in-depth as other coaches.
The Charismatic Voice is doing the ghosty highs towards the end from what I understand.
Yes, it's Elizabeth Zharoff singing the part of the flying ghosts near the end. Pretty cool!
Yes! I love this voice cameo from her! I know she's always followed VoicePlay, interviewed them, and taken beatboxing lessons from Layne.
The whole thing is an homage to the Disney Haunted Mansion. Geoff is portraying the Caretaker. Eli is Alexander Nitrokoff, one of the portraits in the Stretching Room (you can see his portrait behind him of his character standing on a keg of dynamite). Cesar is fortune teller, Madame Leota, who appears in the Mansion as a ghostly head in a floating crystal ball. Lauren is Constance Hatchaway, the attic bride (she was filmed separately and did her own makeup). Her "hurry back" at the end is part of what a tiny ghostly bride (often called "Little Leota) says as you exit the ride. And Layne is the Hatbox Ghost, whose head disappears from his neck and reappears in the hatbox he's carrying. The bookshelves are a nod to the Mansion's library of ghost stories, all four stretching portraits can be seen to the right, and the portrait in the middle of the scene is Master Gracey, the aging portrait from the Mansion's foyer. Also, Elizabeth Zharoff (aka The Charismatic Voice) provided some extra spooky background voices.
The video was Haunted Mansion themed. Geoff was the caretaker- Silas Crump, Cesar was Madam Leota, Layne was the Hatbox Ghost, Eli was one of the stretching room portraits- Alexander Nitrokoff standing on dynamite, and Lauren was the Ghost Bride - Constance Hatchaway. The "hurry back" line is from the end of the Haunted Mansion ride.
I love Eli's cheerful "Hello!" in the background at "I am in your room now"
When Geoff says I hear your footsteps Layne makes the sound of the little boy/girl running to find a place to hide.
There is a blind reactor who covered this song and honestly, until he pointed it out, I didn't realize Eli's character yelled "Boom!" and laughed after his first solo. And then he says "Hello!" when the spooks are "in your room now."
What channel is that? I'd like to check it out.
@@MuriKakari His channel is literally "Blind Guy Reacts." :) He reminds me of my dad's blind friend a lot. ua-cam.com/users/BlindGuyReacts
@@MuriKakari Chayse from Blind Guy Reacts. Also Chayse attempts often Geoff's lines, especially in the latters solo work.
@@embran8486 Thanks. I didn't notice those either, and Voiceplay has been doing a lot of word layering recently, so I'm definitely going to enjoy checking it out.
I really like The Blind Guy Reacts channel. He's always catching stuff I just didn't hear. Sometimes you have to close your eyes to hear things.
My absolute favourite EDM drop they've done is in Friends on the Other Side. Geoff just rudely assaults your ears out of nowhere and it is GLORIOUS.
There are two things that give this video that little bit to go over the top:
1. Eli's accent and "BOOM!!"
2. Lauren's facial expressions (Because creepy smiles)
The crazy arranging genius that is Layne! I enjoyed the heck out of this VoicePlay cover, and your analysis. Would be great if you and Elizabeth from The Charismatic Voice did a joint analysis of a VoicePlay piece ... operatic bass and soprano together!
You good also put Maggie Reneé - a mezzo soprano, who also dos reaction and analysis videos in there.
Maggie is a contralto.
@@Rosannasfriend American mezzo-soprano Maggie Reneé, a Metropolitan Opera Grand Finalist Award Winner
@@matixsk8r1 Peter is good but my favorites are Jennifer. Glatzhofer & Maggie Renee.
You know, at first, I couldn't tell what it was about VoicePlay that grabbed and held my attention so thoroughly. After all, I had heard PTX and Home Free already and all seemed so crazy talented that I just couldn't figure out why I was so drawn to VP. It wasn't until watching these breakdowns from reactors like you and Elizabeth (charismatic voice) that I understood it was their arrangements that were keeping me so locked in. I've learned so much about arrangements and music in general from watching you, so thank you for these reactions/breakdowns! I've always known what I love and now thanks to you, I'm starting to understand why I love what I do! ❤️🥰
I always get so much insight and further appreciation for acapella from watching your videos. It's not until you point out the details that I notice them on a re-listen.
Lauren is green screened, but they actually flew to her, particularly due to Hurricane Ian bearing down on them at the time. Only the 'floating heads' are green screened. The rest is make up and set pieces. (Always amazed by their dedication to the artform.)
Only Layne flew to Nashville, filmed Lauren's part against a green screen, then flew home the same day. She did her own makeup and had recorded her vocals a few days earlier. It turned out so good!
Near the end... When Eli is making that weird sound. Everybody calls it a "guitar sound", but I "hear" it as a slapping bass on pretty high strings. 🤔
One of the things I love about your "reactions/analysis" is your enthusiasm. It looks like you really ENJOY analysing these songs, and that is contagious: it makes me, and hopefully "us" the watchers, as enthusiastic as you. I LOVE that. 🙂
Thank you for the analysis and for sharing your enthusiasm. I ALWAYS enjoy your videos, and I ALWAYS learn lots of stuff from you.
See you at the next one. 🙂
“I’m sure covers of it will be done very very soon” and then Bass Gang drops its cover 😅 super in-depth and helpful analysis thank you!
When Voice Play premiered this was the first time I'd ever heard of this song! Wow! It gave me chills!!! I had to go look up the original!
Voice Plays is very good at sticking to the original while putting their twist to it.
That beat box sound i call a skeleton chatter/woodpecker can be done by tucking your bottom lip back and smacking it up and down with the tip of your tongue while closing your upper lip to tune it. One of my favorite little moves because you can quickly transfer to a snare or bass and tweak it for many different clicks.
8:30 I think Geoff had some text earlier here. He supports Layne with "Play a little."
Great Analysis, tho, like always.
You always cause me to enjoy Voiceplay even more :D
Your analyses always give me joy.
It will be fun to see the Bass Gang on this as well. Anticipating!
Thanks, Peter, for always breaking down the sections so nicely, so I can learn more about the arrangement...and, subsequently, weird out my kids when they hear their mom cleaning the kitchen trying to "hit" bass notes and perc. 😝 Badly. (I am terrible.) 🤣🤣
For their studio recordings, they will 99% of the time double-track people if they need someone to do two things at once. So yes, Geoff was double-tracked at the part you were questioning. Layne confirmed that’s how they do it in his interview with Elizabeth from Charismatic Voice.
The "footsteps" sound like Layne clicking his tongue rapidly against the bridge between the palette and the teeth (not sure if it has a special name, but the hard ridge where the gum line starts) and you can see his mouth shape changing throughout it to change the pitch
Great analysis. I love how detailed you are about the bass, which is what I like from this channel.
Aldo, it was Elizabeth, the Charismatic Voice singing the operatic ghost voiceovers at the end.
I don't rally consider you as primarily a reactor. I think of you as an analyst. That being said there are four whom I think of as my favorite analysts. They are you, Jennifer Glatzenhofer...(excuse spelling...) QoFy and Charismatic Voice... Elizabeth. I appreciate your expertise! Thank you!
yes, yes, yes, great to hear you react to that! I've been listening this song on repeat for a week :D
such an earworm!!
I'm pretty sure the click sounds around 17:30 are hollow clops (flicking your tongue against the back of your lower teeth) with a changing embouchure partnered with a little post production.
Loved your analysis and always love the enthusiasm. I think the outro bit is a throwback to when they did Grim Grinning Ghosts? Also, the little blown kiss at the end legitimately made me blush.
Nobody can top this Voice Play cover. Notice how it is only one boy running through & hiding in the house as is in the original.
25:35 Those high backing vocals while the little ghosts are swirling around are Elizabeth Zharoff of The Charismatic Voice channel, per the credits under the Description (and her comments under the original).
Been gone for a week, just saw this, 60,000 subs!!!! Woo hoo!!!! So glad for you, Peter!
I really thought you were the one reactor/analyst who would peg the ghost voice as being operatically trained. So far I haven't seen a single person analyse this who has put the sound together with the credit in the description and realised it's Elizabeth Zharoff. Still loved it though, Peter. 🙂
You didn't talk much about Lauren, but she really brought the creepy vibe to this and she smiles like she's the Joker.
I like where Eli says, "Hello" in the background.
Haven't watched the video yet, but I'm sure I'll love it. But I wanted to let you know that my son asked me to get him a gaming chair to replace his broken desk chair, and I went, "wait a minute Peter has a sale code for that," so now my son is happy, and my bank account is happy.
I was right - loved the analysis.
So glad to hear that! They really are great chairs
Great review! The outro is pure Haunted Mansion up to the Thurl Ravenscroft laugh!
They make it such a fun song in spite of the lyrics being sooooo dark. And it has been running around in my brain since I first watched the video. Thank you so much for the reaction, you call attention to little details I might have otherwise missed. I really appreciate it.
I'm a little sad you didn't say anything about the C#1 at the end
5.1k people forgot to hit the like button. Also, algorithm.
I'd like to echo another commenter here and say that if you did an analysis video (or any kind of video) collab with The Charismatic Voice, it would be epic.
I am so glad you did this. It took me a while to identify Geoff
I do not know if anyone else mentioned,. I did not read all the comments but Geoff is doing the percussion while Layne is doing his part.. At least I believe that is what I saw and heard.
Geoff is an awesome Beatboxer himself. There is a video of him Beatboxing in the earlier years before Lane started Beatboxing. I believe it is called Geoff Beatboxing . It shows him Beatboxing during live performances. Also the video called The Death Of A Bachelor ( Voice Play ) but it was only Geoff & Earl singing.
@24:11 Peter is questioning who hit these notes; Layne is a baritone and is singing this part all on his own until Geoff takes over with HIS part.
A-plus reaction, tho I expected pit vipers again for Geoff’s seismic C#1 in the outro! Looking forward to what’s coming!!
Voice Play always adds so much content. I can listen to them always
I am surprised Peter seemed to miss the FAT C#1 sub at the end. Nice video! Love how in-depth your analyses are.
Geoff has simply spoiled me at this point lol
They are always so much fun! I was telling a gal today if they wanted Halloween music to look up Voice Play. There were things I didn't catch listening to this on my own. That is why I enjoy your break down of the performance. Keep up the wonderful work!
Great analysis as always. I seem to go back and finally hear the things you point out which makes it even more enjoyable. Thank you!
Your analysis just make the original video so must better! Your knowledge and input highlights elements I don't know nothing about and that makes it greater to watch and listen to, Thank you.
The "Hurry Back" sounds just the way the ghost at the end of the Haunted Mansion ride at Disneyland/Disney World sounds!
The head in the ball mimics Madame Leota and The Bride is the ghost who's killed several of her husband's. I might be missing some of the other references (I haven't been in the HM in over 25 years!)
I really enjoy your breakdowns. Its interesting seeing how you break it down, especially with the bass bit.
This is the thing with VP. Their videos require multiple viewings to catch all the things because of how much they put into it all.
Always enjoy your analysis.
Another great breakdown. Thank you!
That thing layne did was clicking his tongue but making the mouth space really small
Thanks, Peter, for this analysis, I couldn't stop smiling all the way through 😃❤
This was such an awesome video I love that voice play goes to the opposite side of most covers like most people just cover regular songs. I love that theirs is a little bit more out of the box and totally fun.
Not going to lie when it first started playing I thought that Lane was Geoff for a minute as that's usually a Geoff type costume LOL.
Fantastic analysis as always. I honestly never grow tired of hearing your analysises. They're so informal and spot on
More of these, I learn so much.
Very interesting analysis as always! Thank you!
the original "Hide and Seek" is a song produced by Ho-ong-i, and performed by VOCALOID SeeU. (in Korean) the English version was done in 2014.
this is based on a japanese horor story of summoning a demon to posess a body to play hide and seek .. if they find you they get your body
It is sung from the perspective of a girl possessed by a malevolent entity who is playing a deadly game of hide-and-seek with a young boy victim.
......
in the end the ghosts (and i think in other areas
oh the voice-over effect you mentioned near the end was Elizabeth Zharoff from (The Charismatic Voice)
While there is some resemblance, I do not believe this is based on "One Man Hide and Seek at All." The big giveaway is the fact that the song very specifically says the ghost possessed girl comes in from OUTSIDE the house, while the ritual is supposed to summon one INTO the house. It just doesn't fit at all.
There have been other monsters hide and seeking victim stories, so it's either inspired by that one, or more likely just coincidentally similar.
I really don't like people stating this as fact though. It's not.
Just found your channel and have been binging your voiceplay reactions. Really enjoying your analysis. Wanted to request a reaction to their Running Up That Hill cover. It's one of my favorites!
So ready for this!! 🎃💀🧙♀️👻
I just love your analysis!!
anyone else notice the city sounds were in pitch with the video 😂😂
Terrific breakdown. I learned a lot about some of the nuances. Thank you.
The bones in ribcage on footsteps
they are not voice acting, they are voice playing
Your best video yet.
I know I am a bit late to the (Halloween) party but the reaction and analysis was muchly enjoyed. Thank you Peter.
Hi Peter! Firstly, love the lessons you provide, you’re much more educational than the average reactor.
Re: the lower notes behind Geoff - While I don’t know for sure who did them here, I do think you may be underestimating Layne & Cesar.
Cesar I’ve only heard drop low when goofing around in behind the scenes videos, but you may want to take a listen to Layne on two other tracks.
Check out “Hoist the Colors” on the bridge where he’s harmonizing in Geoff’s neighborhood. That track also features a hella slide from Geoff. I don’t have enough of an ear to tell you exactly how far he goes, but he starts in like the middle third of his range and ends up stepping on Eli’s toes. I’d be surprised if it’s not four octaves.
Also: Layne wraps up their version of “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” with a solo that features a few bass drops.
So I have to download this to watch in the dead zone at work.....
It took me way too long staring at the picture to realize that it actually is Peter in a blue button up shirt.
How could you not have picked up it was Elizabeth (The Charismatic Voice) after she's reacted to so many of your videos 🤣🤣
yr reviews r gettin more n more involved... thus r fascinating as an intimate insiders view
I learn a lot from you
Elizabeth of The Charismatic Voice doing the high vocals for the zippy ghosts.
I thought Geoff was the skeleton until Layne started singing.
Beatbox 2005 and before was middle school math now the best are like advanced calculus and physics 😂
kinda surprised you missed his C#1 sub at the end. Still great video
песенка - огонь!
Please react to their recent cover of I can’t make you love me. In my opinion their best cover thus far.
And you have also done some singing in stairwells
Please tell me you didn't miss the C#1 on the last note! :)
26:48 C#1 from Geoff
Laine flew out to film Lauren on green screen and edited her in later.
Geoff’s C#1 sub is Thick at the ending
The beatboxing has indeed evolved so damn much, I remember the first time one of them actually (Sang) as he dropped a beat. crowd went so damn wild. You can go check that video from way back when and it feels ...well unpolished when compared to any serious beat boxer from today.
On a side note, just how damn far down does your larynx have to be to go to that low (uncompressed) low bass? I feel not quite comfortable dropping it so much to reach the note, and when I do reach it, it is hella quiet.
Since we’re in spooky season, I thought it’d be fun if you did Making Christmas by Pentatonix. Title doesn’t sound very spooky but it’s a Halloween song
Peter I love your reactions, but I wish you would do them blind :D Not prepared. Great job!!!
“And Lane doing whatever the H*ll that is.” 🤣 I think you said it perfectly! Clicking your tongue that fast seems impossible. 🫶🏻
Aah, I just read someone else's comment (NerdywordyPrincess) about each of the characters from the Haunted Mansion.
Trap beat? Edm? Dubstep? A quick definition?
i can understand pausing in a reaction vid but my GUY
4:07 it is
I have hitban A1 only 3 times ever
bro you are my fav BASS singer reactor ! Im still waiting for you to react to HOME FREE's Honey I'M GOOD and ELVIRA .. Hope you could see this ! Thank you bro !
You want fun with beat boxing? Listen to some late 80s /early 90s . 🙃
If you want a good example of the ultra crazy modern stuff look up SHOW-GO
Siren as in mermaid brother
If I recall in some videos, Geoff refers to himself as a "baritone singing in a bass range," which to me sounds like he's a bass-baritone and not a true bass. What do you think?
I firmly believe he’s a true bass - his voice really opens up and settles where a low bass voice generally does on the bottom. I think he’s a skilled singer and has learned how to sing easily and healthily into his upper range, giving him his great range
@@PeterBarber Definitely and I think he gives credit for all the subharmonics he was able to pull off from those videos as well as giving him a chance to go in his upper register. It's similar with the other basses like Tim Storms, Tim Foust, Richard Sterban, and Eric Holloway, who, in my honest opinion, is beyond talented in singing and voice acting.
Outside of that in the classical music format, the bass voice is relatively rare to hear. Most recently, I was listening to several versions of Vi Ravviso from La Sonnambula by many basses and bass-baritones to name like Feodor Chaliapin, Tancredi Pasero, Nicolai Ghiaurov, Pol Plancon, Nicola Zaccaria, Ildebrando D'Arcangelo, Nicola Rossi-Lemeni, Sam Ramey, Marcel Journet, Cesare Siepi, Plinio Clabassi, and Boris Christoff. All of whom I regard as my idols when I listen to them and inspired me to sing. It's one of my favorite arias and it has a melancholic, but beautiful melody that goes well with the cabaletta. The two recent artists that sang Rodolfo's aria I will mention are Mirco Palazzi and Monet X Change. There is a difference between those two basses. They individually have a bass-baritone timbre. Palazzi sings it the way that Bellini would appreciate in the aria: a lot of legato and bel canto written for a lyric bass. As for Monet X Change, it's similar to Austin and Rob when they did a duet singing Nessun Dorma. Beautiful phrasing and just pleonastic.
charismatic voice were the operatic ghosts

That truck horn was in key. Weird.
