First off: god damn y'all bass vocalists b all handsome asf😳😎 second off: thank u for saving my life. And last bt not least...daily reminder: I'm proud of u for getting through even day like a champ and glad ur alive. Love u brother. Stay safe out there legend.🙏🤙❤
Thank YOU for this top-deck comment -- it hath been pinned!
Someone has to tell Geoff that Kathy only went for a coffee, she'll be right back.
Yeah, but to be fair if someone has to go out for coffee because we have none in the house, it always seems to me like they are 'gone too long'. Just sayin'...
Lol :P
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Let’s leave this at 69 likes
She can't be gone too long because she's his production manager 🤭
nobody harmonizes with himself better than Geoff
One thing I love about Geoff's solo work is how he can make such small subtle changes that just transform the whole piece into something new!
"Gimme dat breathy A1"
This can be memed to the grave out of context. Was looking forward to your reaction, really happy you did it after all!
Kathy in the sheets be like........
Please don't hate me for this
@@lordqwertythepyromancer3458 Lmaooo 💀💀
He looks like he has had a long day at the office or He's been out partying all night. Either way, he came home to a mostly empty house. His acting skills have greatly improved to match the feeling of the song. Such a sad and broken-hearted man. I had a Stereo Phonic record player when I was a Tween, had to save up to buy the latest 45 singles couldn't afford albums. Also, I subscribed to the Bass Gang. I just always seemed to have had this soft spot in my heart for awesome bass singers.
You put much more into this I see a lost puppy Geoff who's owner just left for work xD
Q: How do you turn a duck into a soul singer?
A: Put it in a microwave until its bill withers 😁
Genius 🤣
Well played 😂
I love Geoff and VoicePlay because they always push the envelope of what they can do. VP's next one is another one that goes BIG. Amazing new guest star too.
@Jules I’m hoping. They were having difficulties with the video. Their guest star isn’t able to be there in person since she’s overseas touring. She taped there and they’re splicing her in. It’s going to be epic. They just keep pushing the envelope!
@@candilunsford2878 Sick! thanks for the update! Can't wait
geoff is just so damn CHEEKY. every time a new song with him drops im like "alright what does this Tart have in store for us today"
You’re my go to for bass reactions from a bass singer. You understand the lower register. It functions differently than the higher registers. Your perspective is helpful.
I feel like you need to innovate some sort of inverse pit viper for when a bass singer impresses or surprises you with a well executed use of their higher range.
some sort of bird perhaps - a peregrine falcon?
I think this is Geoff’s best use of his low register to effect his emotion in this song. I love it! I was getting used to when he would throw in that low note to give us all chills. These chills were seriously wicked!
Geoff has a crazy range. Wonderful.
Fantastic analysis! You catch so many wonderful details - helps me appreciate the cover all the more. I loved the original, so I'm really impressed by the way that Geoff was able to make his own spin on the song while keeping the heart and soul of the original. This has become one of my favourites of his. He was jokingly complaining (mostly jokingly, anyway😆) in a recent webchat that he keeps getting requests for songs that are incredibly repetitive and that it's always a real challenge writing new parts to keep it interesting. It's always fun to see what he comes up with.
I know you've got a million requests on your plate, but you should give Geoff's Big Bad John cover a listen in your own time if you don't have a chance to review it - it's a fun one (speaking of repetitive songs that Geoff's put some creative twists on).
The original is upbeat and bouncy which doesn't, to me, fit the song at all, especially considering the background to the song, the film Days of Wine and Roses, about an alcoholic couple. Geoff brings out the angst and pain and the ups and downs of a dysfunctional relationship. This isn't just about someone who slipped out for an hour or two. It's about heartache and Geoff portrays it so well. He also tried to give a hint of that hungover appearance. I don't know about this one but he normally uses plugins to supplement these videos and has said he spends hours finding just the right one. You're right, he has said that if he can't bring something new to a song, having listened to all the covers, then he just wouldn't do it. He doesn't do karaoke. :)
I love the balance you strike between being in-depth and conversational in your reactions! It's clear that you know your stuff and bring that highly trained perspective to the table, but you never flex on the audience either.
Also, fun fact RE 24:40 - The shorter songs we saw in the 50s and 60s were also due to hardware limitations! You could only fit so much on a record, and 2-3 minutes was it at the time.
Oh the angst of the Geofftet.
On top of everything else I adore about this video, I love the synchronized hand movements.
I swear I heard hints of squared off waveforms in the background tracks and thought you'd find interesting things to say. Lo and behold you provide. :)
Been waiting for this reaction. Geoff has replaced Perry Como and Robert Goulet as my favorite singer (I know, I'm old). And about those pit vipers - Geoff has spoiled all of us. We know he can go super low and do it beautifully, we are still thrilled when he does it, but we aren't astounded any more.
Thanx for the great reaction!
Me too. I kept checking Peter’s channel to see if my feed missed it.
I’ve gotten to the point where when I’m watching someone react to him for the first time, and he’s singing higher in his register, whenever the reactor is gobsmacked by how low his voice is (again, when he’s singing in higher register) I can’t help but giggle & say to myself “Oh they’re in for a *treat* when he ACTUALLY goes subterranean” 😂
Always expect the unexpected with Geoff! Wonderful!!
My gosh...wrote a comment a couple of days ago about being among the 600 that came on board after the 50 000. Now it's already 900👏😁 Also.....I have learned more about singing and voices from you in a short time, than from singing in a choir for 25 years!!! Thank you🙏 Greetings from Sweden🇸🇪
Insane vocals 🔥🔥🔥
Another great reaction to Geoff. Always enjoy your content
Been waiting for this! Awesome analysis! The sound of the ticking clock incorporated into the melody is very subtle and so fitting to the story and meaning of the song. Just amazing!
Another fine analysis. I am in agreement about the breathy A1s ... perfect for this arrangement of this song. Also loved the interesting rhythmic changes. Geoff is never boring in his arrangements. That's a given!!
One of the things that really impressed me with the video particularly is the acting that Geoff does portraying the somber mood of the song. He embodied the meaning of the lyrics. Also was surprised his high note in the background when he sings "Only darkness every day" went unnoticed! But nonetheless, your analysis opened my eyes to some of the stuff he was doing that I missed the first 100 times I listened to it lol
Geoff is amazing! There's no other way to describe him! Thank you Peter!
Few days ago I thought I felt an earthquake, but it's was just Geoff poping on my random playlist
1st congrats on the sponsorships👍👍 2nd I think your the only one to catch the old school sound effects. My first listen ( many since then) I thought Geoff blew my speakers!! Lol. Grat reaction as usual 😉😉
My favorite by Geoff (so far).
Was so excited to see you check this one out! Definitely one of my favorite Geoff covers, it has so much soul and the “whispers” of remix-y vibes are definitely very cool. I love learning more about music theory (key changes, chords, etc.) from watching your videos, especially as I will be taking music classes in college; might as well get a head start! 😊 Also could not be more excited for May the Bass be With You Vol II, it sounds like it will be epic !! 😆❤️
"Geoff, you dirty, dirty boy" - Peter Barber, 2022
I found Geoff's rendition of this much more soul-stirring than the original, though I've always enjoyed it and still do. Loved the melancholic acting and between the haunting low notes and the plaintive high notes, this made me quite emotional! It has tied in equal first place along with High and Dry as my favourite of his videos!
I like it when you sing with Geoff. ;)
I've seen a few dozen of your videos by now, and it amused me that this is the FIRST time I've seen you without the cap, in the ad for the chair. Alas, they don't ship to Hawaii - I checked.
I've always thought you had black hair. I actually thought I was looking at a company actor for a few seconds, until I realized it was your voice. Heh.
In this song, I actually loved the higher voiced verse most - it's not a tone we hear very often from Geoff anymore. Somewhere in the VoicePlay comments I read that he didn't start out with them as a bass - he took over that role when someone else left the group. (Same with Layne - he wasn't a beatboxer to start with.) There are a few times lately when I feel like he goes into those first octave notes when he shouldn't - not all songs call for it. But it's 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘥 of him now, so he produces. Not to say he's not awesome at it, I don't think there are many who can compare. And boy, are there some songs where it's just mind-blowing ("My Mother Told Me," or "Dragonborn Comes," for just two).
I love your videos - I always pick up on nuances that I would miss on my own. Thank you!
Very nice reaction. You are always impressive with your knowledge. Geoff gets better every time. Thx.
Geoff does the classics like no other. Literally have his songs on repeat. Plus dang it the guy is the nicest guy ever!!! Love your reactions as well. Thank you for these and for actually knowing what you are talking about. I worked for an Opera Company for 15 years. A small one in CA and my boss had sung at the Met but just never quite made the big time. He was a tenor and had a beautiful voice. He passed away in 2010 and the company went downhill after he passed. He was the glue and the genius holding it together. I listened to him give vocal lessons to young people and learned a LOT from him. Anyway you know what you are talking about. Love that. Also if you do not like something you say so. Like that too. Thank you
Superb reaction-and not only is my day brighter because you put up this reaction/analysis, but I’m super excited to hear the new songs by TBG!! I was going to ask about the Pit Vipers, cuz when I first heard the drops I thought for sure you’d need them.
Can’t wait for the TBG songs-and your solo video!! More ear candy!!!
What are pit vipers & what do they do if anything.
@@marshayoung9387 If you watch Peter’s other reaction videos, when a bass hits a proper low note, Peter puts on his pit vipers.
If you’re new to Peter’s reactions, I hope you check out more. A lot of us wait with bated breath for his reactions to Geoff’s covers. Also, do check out some of Peter’s music. The Summit, the Other Side (Avi Kaplan covers), his work with The Bass Gang, etc. One of the reasons his reactions are so good is that he’s a terrific bass himself.
Have you ever reacted to his version of "High and Dry"? It's a more simple piece with just one Geoff and he hits those natural lows like in this one but he spends a lot of time in his upper range in that one. It's really nice to listen to and was my favorite until this one came out. I think you'd like the way it sounds
Love the voiceplay and castellucci reactions. Definitely the videos I look forward too the most from you
Would be pretty cool for you to interview Geoff about how he does some of his arrangements and why he makes the decisions etc... geek out on the music... call it Bass 2 Bass 👍🤓 get us the inside view!
This sounded so relaxed and effortless, nice.
Geoff really added a lot of interest to this song. Happy about the Bass Gang news too. Thanks for the analysis as always.
You're the first reactor I've seen explain that ghostly "anytime" in the background at 20:14. Thank you!
I'm intrigued by "morning voice." Do you think you could hold onto it until later in the day if you refrained from speaking?
Your breakdowns are very impressive, also yes those are background subs down to an E1, so his range in this song is E1 to A4, and his singable range would be G1 to A4, which is fucking insane lol
Oh yeah - the man has a godly range, and especially usable range, which is far more important
@@PeterBarber he has such control over even a G1 in chest, but then he can belt a G4 in chest no problem
Have you done his Blackbird yet?
Not his most technically impressive but my favorite. Just a beautiful interpretation.
great reaction thanks ❤️🏴
Your analysis is always on point.
Listen to Tim Foust's solo "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow / Stay". You will find it interesting..
Nice reaction and analysis and nice chair!
Positive algorithm for the youtube comment!
You're reactions no analysis of music have become everyday videos for me I love the way you dive deep into the musicality of the songs. Also congratulations on your new album with Bass Gang!!! I know you've been putting a lot of work into it as well as recording your video, can't wait to see it!!! Thank you so much for taking time out of your days to do these videos for us!!!
Grabbed a chair, ty for the discount!
Please do a reaction video of Geoff Castellucci's new cover song, Way Down
I think this cover is beautiful and your analysis was interesting as always!
Misty Mountains became such a reference. lol
Peter, congrats on acquiring another sponsor! I know that is a meaningful milestone. Great analysis as well 🤜🤛
Oh I just love the way you analyse these songs. And your voice also. I always learn so much from your reactions. This song(probably all af Geoff's) gives me chills. Thanks💕
Ain't No Sunshine came out in '71.
..wow…exquisite!
This morning voice all you speak of…. I think it’s my favorite!!! And then you guys all go all low and 💥💥I can’t even express myself right now…💖 it’s just AMAZE BALLS!! Love 💕 to all you and the women you love!!
I love that it looks like he's just come back from a funeral... giving the whole vibe of "when she's gone" being "dead and gone" without having to say it outright.
The only thing, that could be possibly better, than Geoff Castelucci singing, Ain't no sunshine when she's gone, is 4 Geoff Castelucci's singing Ain't no sunshine, when she's gone 😍
Peter, I always appreciate when you sing a demonstration/example of what you are describing. I rarely understand what you mean, & then you sing/demonstrate & I immediately get it. You never disappoint-or cease to amaze me!
I appreciate you so much Peter. You are doing amazing things with this channel and all the other aspirations of yours I've heard of. Keep strong and BASS on brother man🤍
1971 was the year of the original.
Always a delightful analysis. Loved the idea of the Bass2Bass discussion mentioned earlier. Geoff's soulful musical interpretation was spot on. His acting in it was of a crushed man lost in his on home. Perfect.
YAY! I was legit dying for this video!! I know you are slammed, but thank you. I really love the professional music and insider bass info you provide.
The modulated line bothered me, because I couldn't figure out what was wrong with the sound. Thank you for clearing it up. And for your appreciation.
Yay!! Been waiting on this one! And cannot wait for May the Bass be with u vol 2!!!!!
Congrats again on the sponsors!
Mmmmmm baby that bass! Velvety goodness.
Chills again with this one, Geoff is pretty great at sparking goosebumps with his voice and arrangements.
Finally got my new better headphones vs buds so- DAMNNNNNNN magic to my ears, I'm so glad. Heard ur bass stairwell video just prior to this video this morning and was blown away.
That dub /Remix moment!!! Ur face!!!! Love love it!! 😲😍😁 No misty sunshine mountains when she's gone lol.
His higher range is just as beautiful as his low range is velvet. He never ceases to amaze me with his vocal range and talent with arrangements.
Drop the basement! And then drop it a little further! Lol
I think he adds in some of those crossovers just to see if we'll catch it. Lol
I feel like he played with this one A LOT to change it up and add just a ton of shit he's never done, I can't begin to express just how much I loved this one!!
Thank you again for the ALWAYS AWESOME REACTION AND ANALYSIS. Not only do I love hearing the analysis but I do also love seeing ur reaction to his voice and his arrangements. Love it
Love your insights!
It's difficult to hear but in the background at 15:20 there is a low note that I believe is an F1 in chest voice. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think so.
That's a Low A, my friend.😉
Great analysis! I also really enjoy those lows that just roll out without any push.
Please react to Geoff’s Way Down.
Wondering if you'll ever react to harry mack, even if it is little bit off what you normally react to. Id love to see your first reaction
I love your reactions and analysis. You make me hear things I hadn't before and I love how thoroughly you go through the songs.
You're awesome, thank you as always!
Very classy
Hey, you should react to "duel in the mist OST" or "La Signora Battle Theme"
Check out High and dry by Geoff
Nice reaction & breakdown. I think Geoff sang it with more feeling /heartache than the original. After all it was about loosing someone close due to alcoholism. The original version was more up tempo & didn't convey the heartache as much.
Amazing analysis but I loved that voice crack in 13:22
14:15 to me those notes sound like a zeroth-octave capable piano just layered
I am a widow and I have to tell you it was hard to listen to this song because it reached right now into my emotional center.
I have been enjoying your reaction/analysis of some really great bass singers. Being (a rather old) bass-baritone I wonder if you would consider reviewing one of my favorite bass singers. He will most likely be foreign to most of your subscribers but is nonetheless a great singer and also has an incredible life story. I'm sure you know his work and voice, Thomas Quasthoff.
This is so soul filled that missed out in the original. The part with the Anytime-ime-ime, he sings out, its not mixed.
As Geoff mentioned in the patron prewiev "Hangovered"
I grew up a first soprano. Now I am probably a mezzo trying to be a soprano 25 years later. My “occupational hazard “ is that I only recognize the top register of any harmony. Obviously I don’t have a lot of musical talent.
Have you got a similar thing? Like, you only hear the lower registers?
I think more than air time it was the limitation of what you could fit on one side of a small record (single). The whole point of air play was to generate those record sales.
W video
Yeah that remix editing trick was a gate, easiest thing to do, not a big deal, he's still like 95% unedited lol
I know it’s a bit out there but I would love to hear your breakdown of the Critical Role songs “Your Turn to Roll” and “It’s Thursday Night.” Please, please! Thanks!
12:00 These are the same notes as in the intro to Avi Kaplan's song ''Change on the Rise''.
Love Bass vocals and your unpacking of what Geoff is doing here. He has a simply beautiful voice, and this version is great. but I do wonder about the current 'competitiveness' amongst Bass singers - seemingly mostly in the US? - to aim for the earths core!
Call me old fashioned, but my ears much prefer when Bass singers deliver in more natural sounding notes, rather than pushing down - and as you describe; 'over darkening' their sound as far as they can possibly go, utilizing a range of specialist vocal techniques.
To me it's like vocal gymnastics. You (I mean any singer) can go for the medal. You can even WIN the medal. You can maybe even get your name in the Guinness Book of Records for the 'Bassiest' note! But is it musical? Does it have congruence? Does it fit within the storyline of the lyrics? Does it have artistic merit? Is it attractive to the ear? Perhaps all personal taste?🤔
IS THAT A GD PJ HARVEY SHIRT??? Oh you're cool with me bro. Btw, love your voice, wish mine was as skilled as yours, thx for the analysis
Listened to his version on Elvis´ Way Down?
Two pauses before the song even starts. RIDICULOUS!!!!!
Please react to Ioannis Tsoumaris cover of misty mountains two octaves lower or his vocal range compilation. The man has a loud f0 subharmonic and its insane
That background bass is an instrument. Don't need to overthink it with Geoff. Trust your ears
I wouldn’t call it overthinking - so much can be done to a voice using audio engineering. Sometimes it’s a cool artistic choice to sing something with the intention of radically altering its characteristics with effects. One could totally make a clean vocal subharmonic sound like that bass instrument (most likely) that came in
@@PeterBarber Yeah I agree with that entirely. I mean just in general with Geoff’s music. You can always trust your ears with his.
Your voice is a real thang Peter . I think Geoff is searching for new sounds and structures , not at his best here in therms of production and composition but he will surely find what he is searching for . Impressive as ever .
Have you ever checked out or reacted to Henning May of the band AnnenMayKantereit? one of my fav male voices
Where did the Pit Vipers go?
