We had Nitro for 3 days and my mom couldn’t get the hang of it and we went and got a N64 and a copy of World Tour
For Christmas 1997, my brother got a Nintendo 64 and I was gifted an original PlayStation along with WCW vs The World. Even though it was a decent game for its time, he also got World Tour for his new system which was just in a league of its own. We literally played that game non-stop until WWF War Zone came out the following summer and it didn't take us long to realize that game sucked so we were back on World Tour right up until Revenge came out in the fall. However, I distinctly remember going to Blockbuster a few months after I got my PlayStation and seeing there was a new WCW game that came out called Nitro. There was a copy available to rent so I was pumped heading home knowing I had a brand-new wrestling game for the whole weekend. I was back on World Tour by Saturday morning.
When you saw the gameplay on a display screen in K-mart it looked so good you couldn’t wait to get home and see what the perceived sequel to World Tour felt like.
This was the game that introduced me to the world of wrestling. I've had a demo version for pc. It was 98-99, imagine my confusion when I didn't found mostly all of the game roster on the show. But that was a mind blowing non the less
I remember when you completed it with an nWo member it would play a different version of the nWo theme. I thought at the time the theme was created just for the game, but years later I learned that it was possibly the nWo Japan theme.
Nitro gets a lot of guff, but at the time of it's release, it was the best wrestling game ever released in the United States except for the other WCW game on the competing console.
The wresters in-game 3D models were actually really good. If only the gameplay wasn't so complex with copy/paste move sets. If it played like the 1st Smackdown game this game would've been TOO SWEET!
I was an N64 kid until i started working so i had world tour. I remember seeing pictures of the gameplay in magazines and being blown away with how much better looking it was than World Tour.... Im sure you noticed the key would their- Pictures. for example, compare and contract Ric Flair's sprite in nitro vs World tour with his flat face. Not til the Ps3 era did i play Nitro and you know what happened. The Grass was not greener on the other side.
The one thing about this that sticks out that you didn't comment on was the "Chico" on front of Scott Hall's tights. I'm shocked that the WWF didn't somehow get that gone.
The first thing that comes to mind when I think of this game is Nash's "Hey there. How'd you like a powerbomb?" promo. It made me and my friends laugh so hard for some reason.
My cousin had this game and we used to play it all the time and the prematch promo was the best part of this game. And you described this game perfectly Wrestling Bios. I loved WCW so much that I was happy to play this game the that time. Also what self respecting WCW Nitro game had trouble with run-ins during matches?? Every WCW match had run-ins in it. Come on, bruh???
I think I remember renting this game once.....the only WCW game I ever actually owned was Mayhem. I liked WWF Warzone, but played WWF Attitude to death.
Based on the main (re: not ridiculous) roster of wrestlers, Inland/WCW settled on who they did between January-July 1997. Jacqueline debuted on camera in January and Madusa's last match before her 1999 comeback was in July, and as far as I know, every other real wrestler/on-air personality was on the books in that time period. That said, as roster goes, it aged pretty well compared to a game like WWF War Zone (which had Bret Hart and Davey Boy Smith almost a year after Montreal). Of the actual roster of WCW wrestlers and on-camera talent, I believe the only three who weren't used on camera by WCW in 1998 were Syxx, Madusa, and Jacqueline
Hey that comment I made on the old video years ago saying the game just runs stupid fast on emulators was finally vindicated. Huzzah! Also one reason the audio quality might be lower is because to use CD Quality is known as “red book audio”. A CD has about 70 minutes of audio in this mode and each minute eats about 10 megabytes worth of capacity from the disc. They probably needed a lot of space for those rants maybe.
When me and some others went down to 911 for provide relief help and assistance, THIS was one of the games many of us played in our down times. This hits harder than normal.
As janky as this game is, I actually liked it. i didn't love it. but I really like the "feel" and look, def a more arcade wrestler. I just wish they put more effort into it and expanded on the idea a little
WCW Nitro had great graphics for its time and those rants on the character select screen were epic. Modern pro wrestling games should steal that concept. Where WCW Nitro fell drastically short was gameplay. Idk if it were possible at that time but THQ should’ve collaborated with the AKI team to create their type of gameplay engine. That would’ve made this game perfect. And I had hope that WCW Thunder, the sequel to Nitro would be better. In a few minor ways it was. But both games fell short of any standards set by the AKI n64 games. Honestly, WCW vs the World or WCW Mayhem would be the best ps1 games which is a real shame because the n64 got much better games.
everything going at break neck speed, going to the top rope without any reason, and no one gets hurt when taking a bump outside the ring... this game was 25 years ahead of it's time.

11:50 Wait, you mean that Dweeble, Annie Mae and Greyling weren't WCW wrestlers? Damn, I was anticipating the RTW video showing their debuts...
For me I liked WCW Nitro a lot because I only had a ps1 but with its limitation using the cheats helped a lot in replay value. AWESOME VID
Bobby Heenan giving Frankenstein a "belly to belly" was class...
The only plus this game has is it gives you the option to wrestle in a beehive.
Book it, Tony Khan.
"Box With An H" - The first entire stadium Battle Royale where wrestler, bee and fan all struggle for life presented by AEW
Nicolas Cage as wrestler 😆
The one thing about this that sticks out that you didn't comment on was the "Chico" on front of Scott Hall's tights. I'm shocked that the WWF didn't somehow get that gone.
I remember unlocking all of the hidden wrestlers… what was I thinking? It was such a grind.
The first thing that comes to mind when I think of this game is Nash's "Hey there. How'd you like a powerbomb?" promo. It made me and my friends laugh so hard for some reason.
WrestlingBios is the absolute best wrestling genre UA-camr. We love ya brethren🍺
"PILEDRIVER!!!"
"POWERBOMB!!!!"
They are engrained in my brain... help me..
This game was fun as hell imo. Especially the crazy unlockables
THIS game was the introduction for a 7 year old boy into the world that is WWE. THANK YOU FOR REMEMBERING!
"7 times out of 10 someone will interfere with your match." So, this is very accurate to WCWs actual booking?
If you held down all top ps1 buttons at the same time, everyone would immediately stop and do the WMCA
I found this amusing as a kid.
Syxx's finisher was the Buzz Killer
The giant bee's finisher was the Syxx Killer
man...
some real old memories unlocked here
once revenge and the wwf games came out i never looked back but i remember putting some time into nitro
I think I remember renting this game once.....the only WCW game I ever actually owned was Mayhem. I liked WWF Warzone, but played WWF Attitude to death.
Ich bin etwas enttäuscht, dass du nicht die deutsche Promo von Alex Wright gezeigt hast. Alle Bratwürste sind jetzt traurig.
Ja ich habe auch vergebens darauf gehofft 😞
Maximaler Schwanzmove...
Große Bratwurst! Bin auch enttäuscht.
Ah big bratwurst!!!
big show : sell this move * suplex scott*
scott : nope
"WCW Turbo" sounds like WCW trying to invent WWE Speed by a good couple of decades.
That’s dedication, I had this game and knew nothing about developers putting themselves into game or “nameless suit and tie guys”
The strategy guide was an ABSOLUTE must with this game
When me and some others went down to 911 for provide relief help and assistance, THIS was one of the games many of us played in our down times.
This hits harder than normal.
Still better than the 2k games
As janky as this game is, I actually liked it. i didn't love it. but I really like the "feel" and look, def a more arcade wrestler. I just wish they put more effort into it and expanded on the idea a little
I think I'm the only one that liked thunder and nitro because of how insane it was 😂
WCW Nitro had great graphics for its time and those rants on the character select screen were epic.
