wav.. that was an awesome tidbit of info regarding recording silence.. i remember i used to be superficially nerdy about audio formats, it really doesn't matter any more imho, everything sounds both decent enough and crapppy enough thru cheapo speakers. Things change so much , there was a time younger when the ipod was amazing. The iPod had a special audio amp IC, the original ipod, and it is esteeemed if not regarded for its audio quality (Wolfson DAC). Now Apple did something atrocious to the audiophile world with regards to those crappy headphones they would bundle on every single device you purchased, up until they decided it was in their interest to make audio fidelity a part of their profit seeking business schemes..
when i first got into "computers" , i found some Creative Labs Live 5.1 Sound Blaster PCI card at a thrift store. I had so much fun installing that card and "hearing" the difference between the PCI card , and onboard sound audio. I think im not the only one that got pulled by the super sleek marketing that Creative Labs had going on, they would take full page ads on computer enthusiast magazines, and really advertise for example, the Audigy 2 with the complete breakout board. I think we have lost something in regards to audio quality over the years, since good audio means just decent good for most people, even in movies for example. A LOT of thought was put into audio tracks and mixing in movies, and cinema. It seems like the kind of thought we just arnt able to reproduce in the modern age..
When I had a crappy laptop about 20 years ago I used to backup my CDs to burn by ripping them to WAV, it was less intensive and faster than compressing them down 🤣 Would definitely recommend FLAC, it's still lossless and you can add metadata. 🙂
Your PS4 stories remind me of my own. My friend at work, her daughter was trying to get rid of her PS4. This is a few years ago where she'd still get a decent price for a trade in. So my friend asks us of either my coworker or I am interested in it. My coworker already has one and I don't so I put my hat in. But I didn't want to sound too greedy and I said I was interested but it would be better if she sold it. She said she'd tell her daughter. If they found the controller they'd sell it but if they didn't they'd give it to me. I figured sure I could source a controller. A week goes by. I'm dreaming all the while. Oh I'm gonna do this. I'll replace the thermal paste that. Etc etc. She comes back to me and says they found the controller. I am crushed but i remind myself that I was the one to suggest they sell it. Don't be greedy. It wasn't meant to be. I wallow in the bittersweet feelings for a while. A year goes by. My friend at work randomly comes up to us and says hey we have this PS4 sitting around do either of you want it? Yes. Yes I would like that I say. A few days go by where I agonize over it afresh and finally another week later my friend comes by with a bag with a PS4 and it's controller! It's a 1215 model. It was on firmware 8.52 or something so I put it up to 9.00 and I'm off to the races!
I have been playing forspoken and a bit of dead island if you played infamous forspoken is a bit like that gameplay wise only downside for me is the random cussing feels very forced . As for dead island I got as far as act 2 .

That would explain why those old iPods sounded so nice!
Really good stories this episode. I typically rip my CDs to wav. files onto my phone
