It’s a miracle this didn’t need a full swap. I did however just find what I think are the same clamps. They’re quite pricey though! 🙂 www.amazon.com/Professional-Plastic-Backdrop-Photography-Improvement/dp/B08RXW32H4/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?crid=1MR5Q00WXHLAK&keywords=plastic+clamp&qid=1701303806
Amazing recovery of the data Jason :-D That cheap clamp was so handy in that case. Worth every Dollar :-D I would purchase a few more, Just in case they change to a different design or discontinue them.
Nice one Jason! I had one 12 pro few weeks ago that was not coming on. Was coming on only when you promt to boot with a charging cable! The problem was FL10130 dead or partially disconnected... Changed the case, flex, all things, till i took multimeter and saw that i dont have 1.8v on power button... LOOOL what a day was that....
Yeah it is crazy what will work sometimes ..my SSD in my Macbook Air died ...no bootup ..after trying for 3 days to get the thing to boot I tried the old trick that would work game cartridges back in the day ,which is putting them in the freezer for a hour ..sure enough the macbook booted up and i was able to back it up and put in a new SSD

Well it seems to me there are 2 levels of objective here. 1 is getting the data, which the clamp maybe made possible, the other is a working phone. Don't know if it is possible to repair that board, but I am guessing it is not worth the trouble. Would you be back the the chips transplant to another 12pro top board?
Data was #1 goal for sure. I will do full CPU / top board swaps on these for data only. For me it isn't worth the trouble for a fully functional phone though as it's easy to get into a lot of troubleshooting!
once you said phone fell on the floor I thought - a partially detached chip or the board is split You can call this video - iPhone karma - it was the very lucky moment and place all those micro things to line up - miracle!
Hi Jason I have a 12 pro that has a short on pp1v06 and the 06 lines of cause they both go to the cpu and I believe those 2 lines are shorted together as both lines seem to connected to each other when I've tested in continuity mode black probe on pp1v06 and red probe on the 06 lines my long drawn out question is are these lines related to the ram your well experienced thoughts on this would be very much appreciated thank you
To be fair, your $.30 clamp did temporarily fix the problem by aligning the crack perfectly. Obviously, once you closed it all back up, the crack unaligned and it went back to nonfunctional. There’s no real way to fix a cracked board like that without rebuilding the whole thing with a donor board. That assumes that component pairing issues don’t present.
I believe in a miracles, where u from you sexy thing, (you sexy crack, you) By hot chocolate. That old song starts ringin in my head 😁 Good video as always Jason! Greetings from snowy Finland.
Yes for sure. If I had seen the crack early on I wouldn’t have tried a clamp though. I would have went straight for swapping the cpu, nand, logic data and nfc over to a donor board for recovery. Got very lucky with this one!
costs.. The Graybeard engineer retired and a few weeks later the Big Machine broke down, which was essential to the company’s revenue. The Manager couldn’t get the machine to work again so the company called in Graybeard as an independent consultant. Graybeard agrees. He walks into the factory, takes a look at the Big Machine, grabs a sledge hammer, and whacks the machine once whereupon the machine starts right up. Graybeard leaves and the company is making money again. The next day Manager receives a bill from Graybeard for $5,000. Manager is furious at the price and refuses to pay. Graybeard assures him that it’s a fair price. Manager retorts that if it’s a fair price Graybeard won’t mind itemizing the bill. Graybeard agrees that this is a fair request and complies. The new, itemized bill reads…. Hammer: $5Knowing where to hit the machine with hammer: $4995
Oh yes! They're normally much more obvious - some of broken all the way in two pieces. If I had seen the crack in this board early on, I wouldn't have even tried a clamp. It would have been a full top board swap for data.
Pressing record on something before doing this kinda work almost always seems to make things go south or there’s very strange behavior from the devices. 🤔 😂
Only rarely. With flat rate pricing on recovery, it's really difficult to discount the easy ones and survive. When I take the wins compared to the losses & what is brought in over-all, there's no way we could make it if discounting the easy ones. I would have to charge the really difficult ones $1000s to make up for it. This board was so very close to needing a full transplant it's unreal & could have easily tied up 1~3 days. With data transfer, parsing & re-assembly afterwards, it still tied me up for a good long while & remained on the bench when I got back to work in the morning.

Thankfully the iPhone 12 and 12 pro has all of the nfc needed for passcode to work on the top board. Is handy 😊
