I was 16 going to 17 in a month when I heard this. I was on my laptop just chilling, I pulled up another tab, then the news feed had a big picture of chester, at first I thought it was him telling everyone they were gonna do what music they wanted. I scrolled down and it said he committed suicide. I remember being absolutely shocked, cause no celebrity deaths got to me until this one happened. Him and Linkin Park always helped me during my dark times and clear my head, especially when I need comfort if something bad happens. I'm 22 and I still can't believe it happened. I was a huge fan of Linkin park since elementary school.I was always telling my parents I want to see Linkin park live.I was on a camping trip with my Boy Scout trip at the time I heard the news of Chester’s death.I was stunned.It hit me like a ton of bricks.I was angry saying why would he do what he did.But now knowing about all of Chester’s personal problems and inner demons I have a lot of sympathy for Chester.Depression is such an awful thing.RIP Chester Bennington.

I hate when people say "he struggled with drugs and alcohol" when discussing the suicide of someone like Chester Bennington. No, he struggled with depression, and used drugs and alcohol to self medicate, which is what most people are doing when they fall into addiction. It creates a false narrative that lets people blame him for getting addicted in the first place. He was in pain before the addictions.

I still remember receiving the news, and I remember it like it was yesterday - I was sitting at work, minding my own business when I saw that someone I followed tweeted about Linkin Park's albums Meteora and Hybrid Theory. I thought that it was just a random tweet, and was about to dismiss it, but I decided to see what it was about. That's when I saw the news about Chester's passing. I was in such shock, I couldn't focus on my work anymore. The world stopped right then and there for me, and I immediately stopped my work and went home, and I was still in shock for the rest of the day. I remember growing up with Linkin Park, and even though I wasn't actively listening to them at that time, I still felt shocked to hear about this news.
Mental illness is such a scary beast, and it doesn't discriminate. It's crazy that from the outside looking in, people think celebs have the perfect lives, but many don't realize that addiction & depression don't care how much money you have or if you're successful.
