I was so surprised to see Jamie Foxx was chosen to play Ray. And I was stunned by his breathtaking portrayal of this legend.
Ray fused gospel and r&b. He probably invented what we consider soul music today. His earlier hit song “What’d I Say” was the breakthrough that paved the way for soul as a distinct genre of popular music.
I think words like "legendary", "iconic", & "inspirational" are tossed around waaayyyy too lightly today. This man REALLY was all those things & so much more. He came from nothing, He didn't JUST climb to the top...he did so in spite of everything in life knocking him down time & time again. HE IS a true inspiration❤
Also Jamie Fox's portrayal of him was absolutely incredible. One of the best I've ever seen.
Ray Charles was the go to singer for "America the Beautiful" for decades back when. "Georgia On My Mind" (1960) and "I Can't Stop Loving You" (1962) were huge crossover hits for him. "Unchain My Heart" (1963) and "Drown in My Own Tears" (1956) are great songs too.
His rendition of "America the Beautiful" always gets me choked up.
Ray Charles was a national treasure.
A million people covered the song , 'Song for you' written by Leon Russell , But nobody covered it like Ray Charles ! And it is a Beautiful Song 🎵
What a national treasure. His music always made me smile as a little boy.
Seven Spanish Angels Ray Charles and Willie Nelson
Ray is an iconic American legend! A true treasure. Great reaction.
I saw Ray Charles live. It was amazing. He just had such a stage presence.
We were united as woman. All of us were singing this tune. Loved...love it still.
Since the 40s Ray has been mixing blues, gospel, country, and rhythm and blues. Before there was Little Richard, Elvis, Chuck Berry, Big Mama Thornton, and Carl Perkins, there was Ray Charles, The Father of modern rock.
"When I was a kid I used to watch the Jamie Foxx movie" - suddenly I feel old, but a great movie and performance by Foxx. Ray is one of the most important musicians in US music - without him, we wouldn't have soul music.
I feel ya. When I was a kid, I used to listen to Ray's #1 hit of this song on my transistor radio! Was fortunate enough to see him play live in 1975. What a performance.
my thoughts, too ... when i was a kid .. man, i saw ray in concert! XD
A real American musical icon, rip Ray
Gosh, all of us loved this song when I was young!
Now your talking world class righteousness!
Definitely, Ray Charles is a World Class Legend
Ray had more talent than all of today's pop stars put together! he was music!
a simple sigh from Ray has more soul than anyone i hear playing the charts these days....
Ray was the real deal. 🙂His version of Georgia On My Mind is one of my all time favorites!
One of my favorite Ray Charles songs was actually from the Blues Brothers movie. The title of the song is Shake a Tail Feather.
Ray Charles was so cool. It looks like he was having fun.
The Rayettes were great.
Soooooo Good!
It is always thrilling to see a reaction to Ray Charles; my fav songs are Night Time Is The Right Time and I Got A Woman
Big fan of Ray Charles miss him 😢
Ray Charles is the man. I had this song on a 45 when I was around 6 yo, back in the late '60s. Drove my folks crazy from playing it so much. 😆
He has one of those voices that could sing a grocery list and it would be a hit. Check out his song Blackjack.
One of my favorite bands, Omar and the Howlers has a great version of Hit the Road Jack that you should give a listen to.
If you haven't sseen the Blues Brothers, now would be a good time. Ray Charles has a role, brilliant music.
Every now and then I need me a good dose of Mr.Charles - ABSOLUTE LEGEND !!!
HIT THE ROAD JACK IS MY FAVORITE
I agree with John Chu Ray Charles had a major impact on R&B soul. I would also suggest listening to "Ray Charles - What'd I Say LIVE" This is another sassy tune that will have your toes tapping 🎶🕺Fun reaction, Biz. Thanks and have a great day
gotta hear this; Emerson Lake and Palmer ; From the begining
🤯💯 BizMatik‼Got Mr. Ray Charles ROCKIN' OUT‼I hadn't heard him in a while; so, it's good to "catch up" with Ray‼☮ ❤ 🎶
Classic!
Legendary!!! ☮️❤️😎
Just a treasure
Greatness!!!!
I was fortunate enough to see Ray Charles twice in concert. I always loved his entire catalogue, but especially his early Atlantic Records recordings. A true legend, originator, and genius. He is missed.
Peace
Grew up in the 60's. Older brothers and sisters had stacks of soul and rock records. Much of the music was mind blowingly great then and it will be around forever. Ray Charles will always be one of the all time greats.
Legend
More, more, more, more.. that part alone
Awesome guy
Ray Charles is the ultimate story singer. Love to him forever ❤
Watch one from when he was younger and he's singing the whole time, you'll love it. He was on fire and you can hear his strong voice and piano playing.
Ray was an all around artist. He could sing anything.Rock and Roll,Folk,Blues,Jazz,or Country, check out It's Crying Time "He was a legend.
That was so fun! Can't wait for you to do Georgia on my Mind.. makes me cry every time 😭🤣🥰🥰
My fav Ray Charles song is Georgia on my Mind
I am always surprised to hear a reactor say they have never heard some iconic performer, then I have to remember how young you are!! You are right Ray is a legend. Also, I agree that Jamie Fox killed it. He BECAME Ray. I have several compilation CD's that I play all the time. I think the music is timeless. Some of my favorites are:
"Night Time is the Right Time", "Drown in My Own Tears", "I've Got A Woman". Also three that were covered live by Humble Pie:
Hallelujah I Love her So" from Performance: Rockin the Fillmore; "I Believe to My Soul" Live '73
Thank you , I look forward to more...
The legend!
About the movie
Ray got a braille version of the script and complained about that the drug theme wasn't harsh enough
You gotta do, What I Say, next if you can find a live version. I love Ray Charles. This is not the best version of this song, the studio version is great, but this is old 1960, and raw and you know how the audiences back then were kind of sedate, This audience wants to rock! I love it.

Beat that folks. Ageless.
Probably my favorite singer.Check out the original studio versions of 'the right time', 'doing the mess around' and 'I got a woman'.Gospel infused RnB Blues at it's best!!
😊 Jamie did fargin great job wit portraitale
You might not know that the musical performances on SNL used to be as important as the comedy.
