Ray could play anything he wanted, he was so talented. Jamie Foxx did a fantastic job playing him on screen.

My grandma took me to see it too! I saw the Springfield il show at the sangamon auditorium! He passed later I think it was his last tour! I didn’t know who he was or ever heard of him, but she was so excited!

Yup. I remember listening to my mothers albums. This was one of them . I thought , whats this old guy got to tell me?! I learned pretty quick that Ray Charles = GOOD MUSIC!! It was a formative experience for me,and im the better for it ❤
Ray Charles was my very first musical crush. Heard his music at age 13 (more than a few years ago😉) and wound up collecting every single album he made and used the album covers to decorate my room. I turned on so many of my friends to him that at our 50th HS reunion everybody remembered that and mentioned it to me! His voice is so very soulful and expressive💙. He has provided a lifetime of listening pleasure🎶💯

I got to see Ray Charles about two years before he passed. It was a fundraiser he was doing for A&M U. In Huntsville, Al.
It was in a pretty small forum and it goes without saying it was GREAT....PERFECT...I can die happy now. It was a dream come true !!!!!!
One of my favorite scenes in any movie is when the Blues Brothers go into Ray's Music Emporium, and he shows them there's nothing wrong with the action in that keyboard.
Before little Richard, Elvis, Big Mama Thornton, Fats Domino, and Chuck Berry, there was Ray. He had laid the foundation for rock and roll, and is the Grandfather of rock.

You should check out the "Crossroads" series performance with Ray Charles and Travis Tritt doing "Georgia on my mind". The love that Ray had more music, and his personality/performances live... he's an absolute legend.

Since realizing his start was in the late 40s, I considered Ray Charles more an originator of rock than Elvis, Chuck Berry, and even Little Richard. By the time they showed up, Ray has already made a path for them.

@@mikefetterman6782 I can't make the same statement because there were so many great artist back then that I loved to listen to. Along with the ones listed above I like Fats Domino, James Brown, Aretha Franklin, The Temptations and Diana Ross just to name a few. There were others that I loved as a kid but I don't remember who they are. Over the years I've been trying to search for them little by little.
You should review the duet Ray did with Barbra Streisand on "Cryin' Time" for her '73 TV special. It's great.

He started out listening to a lot of stuff; gospel, jazz, blues, country, etc. He was heavily influenced by Nat "King" Cole and Charles Brown (who he tried to sound like on his early recordings), but after he signed to Atlantic, he started to find his own sound. That gospel + blues + jazz combination he used in the 50s set him up for success and then he took that sound and applied it to country records. Just absolute genius and that's a small piece of it.
