    I can't thank you enough for this. I've had my alesis strike pro se for a couple weeks now and been trying to tweak ezdrummer samples into it. This is the only viable option I've come across that doesn't involve loads of troubleshooting.
    A quick tip for anyone trying this: Make sure, after exporting files, that you save them into the right sample folder for your module. I intitially did all these steps and saved everything incorrectly wasting a couple hours of my time. Test out your first auto-map (for instance tom 1) and make sure it becomes a usable file for your module, or software you are mapping the kit with (before you map the entire kit and realize none of it worked) oops.

    This is awesome man. I just started messing around with SDSE last week, but this definitely helps with VST export settings and your tip on velocity during import is clutch... I swear the Strike module is so underrated. Great video as always and thanks for putting together the HOW TO on this whole process.

    On mine the sin file would go into the instrument folder and not be usable from there. I guess it can only load from a folder so I had to make sub folders for individual pieces and put the sins into the folders.

      Once you have everything running SDSE will only export what you have up in your kit in whatever vst. I.e. if you have SSD5 open and just want a snare and kick, make or select a kit then delete everything out until you have only snare and kick, hit export, done. You want HiHat and ride from another kit or vst do the same. You can piece them together as you wish once imported into the module.

One question I have for you is whether you've experienced the closed hi-hat sound being noticeably quieter than the open and semi-open samples. I've been using SDSE with SSD5, and with all the kits I've exported, I have this issue. I'm assuming it's in the way SDSE exports, but I'm not sure the best way to compensate for it.

    Why would I need to use SDSE to import my drum library instead of using the Alesis Strike editor directly? If the Strike Editor can't do it, I'm on a Mac and SDSE is Windows; any options?

    • @AtTheSourceStudios
      @AtTheSourceStudios  5 років тому

      SDSE is to "export" the samples where Strike editor is there to import. Not sure about Mac... I'm sorry I am on Windows (obv). I'm not sure if there's any other programs that allow to export samples from VSTs but if there is and you can get the .wav files for each velocity the Strike Editor can import them. In fact you could literally make your own just by recording them and printing down to 4-5 second .wav files of different velocities for an instrument and Strike Editor would automap them to work correctly for you.

The manual has limited info. it refers to the outputs being "fixed" but in pro audio that generally refers to gain/volume rather than signal flow. Hi this was very helpful.
    A few questions . Can you convert and import mono waves with the software. To use less memory.
    And is the 200 mb available memory in addition to the internal stock kit sounds. Or is that total for the preset.
    Meaning if I load a stock kit can a layer a multi sample with the stock and use the 200 mb just for the user portion.
    My old school ways when I use my hardware samplers is to pitch up a sample to use less memory.
    And the pitch it back down to the original after importing. I have BFD3 and SSD3 and they both have great pitch Algorithms. In fact BFD will do the whole kit at once. You might want to give that a try
    Great videos you post. I have been going back and forth on what to get
    But importing multiple layer samples is a game changer
    Especially now the the module is being sold separate

    Im really close to buying this module after all this on this channel but i read on vdrums forum that the strike pro has enormous latency, some guys report over 15-20 even 30 ms when using it to send midi data to control vst's. Have you experienced bad latency when monitoring from the computer? My audio interface can handle 16 buffer size and in an empty project with just superior drummer 3 loaded, it should be fine on the computer's end. With reasonable values of mask time and scan time, what should i expect? Also,when exporting a vst with already layered sounds like x pads on SD3, do the samples get combined into one wav file or everything is its own sample that i can layer freely within the module later? thanks a lot subbed!!

      If you're going to trigger a VST on a computer from USB out, the Strike wouldn't be my first choice. You're better off with a TD27. The advantage of the Strike module is being able to load the samples on to it, eliminating the need for a computer and audio interface setup.

    Very informative thanks!, but is there a limit to how many samples per pad or Gigabytes per kit?

    • @AtTheSourceStudios
      @AtTheSourceStudios  5 років тому

      Hi. Yes there is a limit but I've heard there isn't on 1.4? (I run 1.3) it doesn't matter though because despite what some people might try to say that you need all velocity layers for it to be 100%. That's actually not true at all. In fact most VSTs don't have 127 unique layers within each sample, they have algorithms that make slight changes to create different sounding hits. SDSE actually has minimum and maximum settings and EzDrummer barely makes the minimum. Which means if the minimum was lower it would have even less because EzDrummer does a LOT of modelling and algorithm in it's program.
      The point is the strike also has an algorithm and it actually doesn't need a lot of layers to run perfectly and not machine gun.
      So the answer is yes there is a limit but you will probably never hit it when importing samples because the amount of layers within each samples taken out of the VSTs will leave you well in the clear. Especially if say you don't import tom rims or cymbal bow zones. If you don't import those and just use the edge zone for both the bow and edge on the crashes/China's/splash you'll have much better cymbal swells but you'll also only be at about half the amount of memory maybe a little over.
      Sorry such a long response lol but there is a lot of misconception about samples and what is needed to be properly performing.

      Hey for live my kit is still like 90% strike. Just cuts the mix the best and really does sound like a raw physical drumset in the room. I love the VST sounds but they are SOO colored sonically for a recording that raw power is kind of lost in comparison to the Strike.
      Honestly I would be happy if I only had a HiHat imported (just because now I really love the EzD2 Sabian HHX hats) but outside of that and a snare layered with the Strike snare my practice kit for band practice is all Strike.
      Actually going to be putting out a couple more kits for download I've been using. Peter Griffin DO NOT use your iPhone IT WILL NOT WORK. Instead, use your computer to access SiREN’s file and download then to a folder on your computer hard drive. Connect your Strike module to your computer using an USB cable similar to the ones that connect your computer to the printer. Once you have your Strike module connected to your computer, copy the all SiREN’s kit files onto the SD Card of the Strike module into the Kit folder. You should then have access to the news kits on your Strike, and you should be able to see them when you look KITS under User (F4). ENJOY!

      yes. Y splitters go from whatever tom of your choice to the cymbal pad then to the brain. they take the place of (selected tom's) rim where you would dial in a cymbal sound for that added cymbal pad. using this method mutes the rim of the used tom and instead gives that sound feed to the added pad

    Hey man. Maybe an odd but definitely related question - what versions of Strike firmware and editor are you using? I'm having all kinds of issues with the module recognizing the samples on the SD card after going through the mapping process and saving the new user instruments... I'm running 1.4 and 1.1.2 respectively. Thx in advance for any additional details.

    • @AtTheSourceStudios
      @AtTheSourceStudios  5 років тому

      Okay what issues do you mean recognizing samples? Like it won't load the SD card?

    • @rdubu77
      @rdubu77 5 років тому

      SiREN-DRUMS So I’m taking my .wav samples and mapping them as user instruments using Strike editor. This creates a .sin file in the Instruments folder on the SD card. All this works great in editor... The problem is when I go to map the new voice / user instrument to a trigger. In the module, the instrument(s) are just nowhere to be found.
      The crazy thing is, when I jump back into editor and select kit mode, I can map the samples to a trigger, but on the strike module it registers the change as a “none” / null instrument. I’m at a loss...
      I’ve opened a request with Alesis support to see if they have a known bug or whether I have a bad module. I’ve done quite a bit to rule out the SD card and have even gone so far as to reflash the module firmware and reload editor. I’ve also tried connecting with both Mac and PC systems to see if that was somehow linked to my problems, but same results no matter what.
      So, I was wondering if you were running 1.3 still and if you are, then maybe this is a 1.4 firmware issue. There’s not a lot of guys out there layering user samples in the Strike module so I may be on a short list of people seeing this bug.

    • @AtTheSourceStudios
      @AtTheSourceStudios  5 років тому

      Have you moved or changed where the file was stored or renamed any of the files since creating the instrument via editor?

    • @rdubu77
      @rdubu77 5 років тому

      SiREN-DRUMS No. The .sin file maps file directory/path info so that would certainly break it, but no, I didn’t move anything. I’ve got a couple of other ideas to try for troubleshooting along those lines - IE shorter folder names and collapsed file paths given that the map name can only be 30 characters there may be a limit in the folder path detail. But that’s pretty much the end of my rope on things I can think of...
      So are you running 1.4?... Really interested to know if this could be a 1.4 issue I’m hitting.

      Don't worry too much as long as there's a decent amount. You don't need a lot for the strike to play good. Worst case there are adjustments in SDSE for how even the velocities come out low to high as well as overall amount of velocities printed.

      I mean you can sure but you can only import a one shot sample into the 17 so kinda "yes" but you won't get the same effect because you'll only be able to use one single top velocity hit and have to layer it with the stock snare mostly because of that.

    • @AtTheSourceStudios
      @AtTheSourceStudios  4 роки тому

      @@Caspertats86 all SDSE does really is record a number of the velocities for each instrument and mix them down individually under each instrument name so theoretically you COULD just program multiple light to hard hits via midi and just cut and mix down each individual velocity sample and put under one folder for each instrument. I.e. program midi for snare to hit every 6 seconds in 6-8 groupings if velocities spread out over about 50-60 samples then render in place to get the actual wave then edit down to 5 seconds for each sample and do a soft fade out then mix down/print each of those samples for each velocity and number 1-127 accordingly.
      It would be a painful process lol but possible yes. You're basically making samples... Of samples lol that's all SDSE is really doing.
