The XT3 is a PHOTOGRAPHY camera. Not a video camera. Just buy the correct tool for the job. and by the way, sony isn't any better at your test. I know because i shoot sony. to get what you are trying to do the proper way to do it is to use manual focus and have a focus puller.
So was the GH5 and so is the GH7 and G9ii. And A7iii. And 5DM4. They’re all hybrids. Focus puller lmao, that’s only for cameras like a RED or ARRI that needs 3-4 people to operate. Not hybrid cameras designed for one person.
No, not at all.... the xt3 was a major step into video for fuji. The xt2 was a photo-centric camera and the xt3 was the "ultimate hybrid apsc camera" when it released. Go back and watch all the marketing and review/comparison videos with the xt2 and xh1.
Please spread the word. I don't know why so many people still hate Edvard and try to discredit his findings, when the whole community can only profit in the end. 🙏🏼❤️
Keep on fighting and uncovering the root issues, we need this. I don't think any of us would be appreciating the fix 7.1 brought if it were not for you starting the avalanche of complaints and really pinpointing the issues. Now we have confirmation certain glitches you discovered are addressed, they are most definitely watching you, and for that we should all be thankful. But right now you are like an unpaid Fuji engineer and that sucks. They should be flying you out to Japan and giving you a big fat cheque!
Been a professional fuji shooter for 4 years now. Have upgraded every cycle of x cameras and own a gfx camera. Invested in many lenses including the mkx zooms and have rigged out my cameras for cinema application. 70% video 30% photo. As someone whose built their entire portfolio on fujifilm gear, knowing what I know now I would advise aspiring or working professionals to look elsewhere. I have had dozens of issues, mostly software some hardware. This extends to third party accessories such as atomos etc. Some of these issues have still not been resolved over years of complaining and my issues being replicated by other fuji shooters as well as atomos. Fuji replaced entire mainboards and sensors for me before never acknowledging the problem or able to replicate it on their end despite me sending videos and photo evidence. You can get the job done with excellent results no question, but the quality of life owning these cameras is a never ending annoyance. For all the positives, every other brand simply does it better with less headaches. These are quality of life judgements, how much is your time worth over your brand loyalty?
@@callumleakfilms Could write an essay on fuji issues, but in regards to atomos performance there are many. I have a shogun connect and ninja 5. There is a dead pixel when shooting prores raw that is SOFTWARE side in addition to wild chroma noise in the shadows along with strange hard banding lines (visible when zooming in). Additionally the prores raw would appear wildly underexposed in every colorspace (this specific problem was fixed in a later patch).Contacted fuji support and they advised me to send my camera in and replaced my hdmi circuit board. Problem persisted, instead of sending it back I was able to locate this on other fuji shooters cameras in addition to my own x-h2s. All these issues have been documented on youtube by other users (which i sent to both fuji and atomos). Additionally when changing menus, you would get "monitor lag" when returning to live view and the camera would have to be restarted (this was also patched a year after the release of the camera, but havent confirmed it doesnt persist when recording externally). After a month of back and forth, Atomos confirmed all issues with me by correspondence and that they were able to replicate them in house, however they said these issues would have to be fixed on fujis end. I sent fuji the correspondence and they said atomos would need to address the problems on their end. I have not tried external recording since. Surely theres been more patches but i switched to flog2 proreshq internal recording after this was a headache on set not to mention the extra money that needed to be spent in post to correct this. Thats just the monitor, let me know if you have more questions.
There are damn good reasons why FUJI now outsells all other brands in the sorts of cameras which they put on the market, meaning DX format and Large Format only, with no full frame: And the reason is because Fuji offers what people want, and they offer it all at a damn good price. If you've truly had seriously bad experiences with Fuji ... then you're one in a million. And if you truly want seriously good video performance and quality ... then you need to invest in a genuine video camera, rather than a regular camera which adds video capability as merely an adjunct function. And besides, who the hell actually has a serious need to do VIDEO, of all things? The way video is done is with a big heavy video camera resting on your shoulder, and it's actually done with video tape. We DO remember camcorders, don't we? Well, what I speak of is merely the professional variety of a camcorder. You know, the sort you might take inside a church to record a wedding. Attempting to accomplish the same with a DSLR which has "video capability" is hardly the same thing at all. Like comparing a Volkswagen Bug to a semi truck.
@@scotthullinger4684Not sure you got the thrust of my argument. As i said Its not a one in a million thing, there are universal issues for all fuji users(one of many being illustrated in this video). I can send you evidence of dozens of documented problems if youre actually interested. The barrier to entry to professional cinema is extremely low now, theres no more excuses for $2500 cameras. Look no further than fuji not having support for their flog 2 profile in any of the major editing programs. (Not a big deal but again annoying) Again there are incredible professionals shooting fuji cameras as we speak in photo and video for some of the biggest clients and at the highest levels, but the quality of life issues add up over time. There is so much positive to be said for the brand but the other companies just have more of their problems ironed out.
@@scotthullinger4684You smell like a fanboy who is never going to pinpoint a failure no matter how bad it fucks your job. First of all, a friend who shots fuji and bough a brand new NT4 had to return it because the IBIS went wild and vibrated randomly when it feel like it, frequently ruining shots. Not to mention all the AF problems he’s having, with the camera not being capable sometimes of doing simple AFS tasks. And what are you talking about camcorders and video tape? There’s been years that DSLR and DSLM cameras have been shooting video reliably, not even in freelance jobs, but as B cams in higher budget sets. Good and reliable video AF has been in Sony and Canon cameras long enough, now Panasonic has it as well, so everything you said is just a cheap and stupid excuse from a customer who should be interested in getting the best out of the tool you’ve paid. Unless you’re making profit of Fuji sales.
Finally, the video I’ve been waiting for on this firmware update. Fuji really dropped the ball on their updates. Thank you for being honest and not sugarcoating the issue-it’s refreshing to see creators hold brands accountable!
Explain to me then why all the other UA-camrs got the camera to work the problem is Edvard what you do is you look for someone that you were lying yourself to just come and do the world a favour mate and buy Sony and be happy
it’s insane that this is their FLAGSHIP video camera. i want to thank you from the bottom of my heart because if it wasn’t for your videos i would have wasted my money on a camera that can’t do what is supposed to do instead of buying the Lumix S5IIX which i’m loving so far. we need more people like you
First time I’ve seen one of your videos after seeing you referenced in the FujiRumors comments a lot. Great job. This sort of testing is essential to keep Fuji accountable with their unacceptable AF issues and increasingly weird attempts to ‘fix’ it.
I'm a Fujifilm fan and AF is fine for my style of work, however I appreciate a lot what you show in your videos and I hope it leads to Fuji improving their system, not just fixing it.
I will never understand people who prefer to take the side of companies, instead of being grateful that there are people who use their means, with which they can make more noise, to solve problems that affect them as consumers. Companies are not our friends, even though some of their products have a centimental value for us.
man, this is hard to watch. i was planning on upgrading from an X-S20 to the X-H2S if this firmware really fixed things. but this video confirms my decision to sell my entire Fuji system - lenses and all - and switch to a Canon R5. i was really holding out that this would do it, but i feel strongly that you have to speak with your dollars. the only way Fujifilm will ever fix this is if their sales take a hit and they’re forced to innovate again. thanks for having the best coverage on UA-cam about this.
The same sound can be found in the LM lenses in you listen closely , camera picks up the sounds a bit ( I will show it for the 90mm LM ) so.. its not the lenses.
It looks like the camera cannot calculate how much to move focus in one command to the lens, so it moves the focus plane bit by bit and on each step it recalculates the focus. I don't know if Sony does it in one step or if it somehow makes a bunch of small steps undetectable
Buddy...this is an awesome way to test how the settings impact the AF. Brilliant. I tested my x-t3 the same way you did with your cat and the original settings were horrible. Then I bumped the speed up to 5 and tracking to zero and it was much much better. I've settled with tracking at 1 and speed 5. Thanks for putting this together brother, testers at Fuji would be wise to use their ears as well their eyes to help with testing. You saved me from picking up an XH2S after firmware 6...the XT3 is old but the XH2S is not worth 3k more for me until their AF gets up to the Nikon, Canon & Sony level (or at least much closer). Keep up the great work...this isn't hate...just facts and awesome testing strategies. 🙇
Guess what , firmware 4 on xt3 (the one wich broke the lens smoothness) focuses perfectly in every situation like that. But the XT4 wich was supposed to be better does this exact thing like my xh2s.
How can people tell you that you're ranting to get views with a straight face?? Your videos are very unbiased and objective and far more useful than fuji fanboy stuff. Keep doing what you do. I subscribed to your channel for a reason.
Thank you for keep on top of the actual functionalities, plenty of in-depth real world testing I haven't seen anywhere else. I truly hope fujifilm gets to see your video and take your input. Also, fantastic work on the amazing professional footage you produce! Nikon keeps getting more interesting for me as of late.
Yeah, the reason I got into the Fuji XH2s is that I do not use autofocus for my work. Lol. Love someone actually is pushing Fuji to do some modern things. Good job.
Edvard, your cat looks like she’s about to kill the Fuji😂. Thank you for taking the time to test the autofocus carefully. I have the xh2s. She’s good at many things. Unfortunately not in the video. I usually use aperture 2.8 or higher. That’s why you don’t notice the bad AF so much. I bought a Sony A7iV. I don’t like a lot of things about the Sony. The AF is better and better resolution and less noise. But for me slow frame rate and no 4K 120 P. Unfortunately, I think it’s the last update for the Fuji in terms of autofocus. Fuji won’t try any further, I think. With the Staked Sensor, the XH2S is far ahead in terms of speed. Annoying that they can’t do it. Thanks for the video!
Nobody does tests like these, but I'm sure the fanboys (at this point we can just call them trolls as we are the true fanboys who really want what's best for Fujifilm) will still find a way to discredit what you have achieved for the Fujifilm community. I really hope this will once again lead to an even bigger sh!tstorm! I really dare Patrick to make an exclusive post about your X-T3 findings on Fujirumors without any added BS apologetic talk. If he truly values the community like he says he does, there's no way around it.
Patrick makes a killing off Fuji clicks and ad revenue, so of course he's gonna downplay their AF issues and hype up their cameras. His comment section is a toxic cesspool of fanboys who defend Fuji no matter what. Fuji sells overpriced looks, not performance. People will eventually wake up and realize they've been duped.
I will of course share all the feedback I find, including Edvards. And as in every article, I will add my thoughts. But I know people will shitstorm anyway, even if I share Edvards video.
@@AbdonPhirathon If I was you, I’d go back in time and read the articles I have shared about Fuji AF… where I shared lots of videos (including 4 Edvard videos) about the bad AF. And, as Edvard also said in today’s video, I even shared his video back in 2021 when he first talked about the problem with X-T4 AF. That’s the reality. I cover it. But I undertand that shitstorm on FR is just a trend. It works only if you ignore the reality of what I do, but ignoring reality is a normal thing these days
I used the xt3 for wedding video and ive never heard that sound before. I will probably never upgrade the firmware if that's from a later version. Thanks for these videos, you're the reason why I have saved my money and not upgraded further with Fuji for video. I love it for photo and I don't use auto focus for that. I use back button and recompose. So I'll probably keep it for that and get either a Canon or Sony for video work. Thanks for extensively testing this.
He is using a very sensitive microphone to pick up the AF motor sounds. You probably have a hard time trying to hear it in a natural environment without any tools.
I take away two key messages from the video. On the one hand, the autofocus issue still hasn’t been resolved completely, and Fuji is still not on the same level as other manufacturers in this regard. On the other hand, it’s positive to note that it’s now clear the problem is indeed software-related. Your assumption that the X-Mount might be the cause is disproven by the noise levels of earlier firmware versions of the XT-3. This gives hope that Fuji might eventually manage to catch up with other brands 🙂
First of all, thank you very much for the video. I installed the new update on my Fuji xh2s because let's be honest, it can't get any worse. I haven't tried the update myself yet, but because Fuji did a lot of promotion for this update, I had very high hopes that the autofocus had finally improved to the point where it was actually usable. I have to admit that I am more on the photography side than the video side and I just hope that this update might at least deliver a little better when it comes to photography. I was really hoping that now that I'm working more and more "professionally" I could continue my path with Fuji but to be honest I don't see that happening. For me, that was a bit the last straw that Fuji could hold on to because I have to have an autofocus for my work that I can reasonably rely on. With the last update I had so many missed shots that I wanted to throw the camera all the way to the Fuji headquarters. Next week I'll put things to the test when it comes to photography and then think about whether I'll continue my journey with Fuji or whether I should look out for a Sony.
True, those praised the "new" firmware should compare it to the best Fuji has come out, which ironically is firmware version 1, and see if V7.1 is anywhere better than V1. Seems like Fuji just backtrack 90% to V1, while throwing in some log profile to pacify the users.
The next meeting at Fujifilm's headquarters should begin with an analysis of your video... I’m planning to buy the XS20 this Black Friday. However, as you mentioned, I won't upgrade past firmware 1.0 if they simply copy the new firmware into the XS20 and XT5/XT50. Thanks for your great video!
Yes, but on the fuji xt3 firmware 3 , the steps are more frequent and more small so they are no distracting. Even sony has steps but has so much of them that it seems like its very smooth.
Back in 2020, I spoke with a Canadian rep who shared insights about Fuji's direction. At the time, I didn’t think much of it, but looking back now, he was spot on. He mentioned cost-saving measures, reusing old sensors, and how the era of significant technological leaps was coming to an end. Moving forward, he predicted we’d see mostly minor updates and recycled materials. It seems like Fuji has been focused on cutting costs and trimming the fat at headquarters. Usually, when a new CEO takes over, they want to make a mark and steer the company in their own direction. I’m guessing the decisions we see Fuji making today reflect the CEO’s vision and his team’s strategy-or lack thereof. Maybe he even fired all the good software engineers and replaced them with interns, again for cost-saving measures, lol.
@@Iamtongue A good theory for the drastic change of xt3 af-c algorithm from fw 3 to 4, the experienced engineers were fired or quit and replaced by cheaper labor with "a lot of good ideas" for how to improve the af-c. And it sounds like they're still working there😄
@@Iamtongue tbh I'm okay with them reusing sensors, their 26mp is still one of the best crop sensors(mostly thanks to everyone else not caring). This is the only thing in the X-T3 that doesn't annoy me.
@@Iamtongue You may be onto something - leadership changes matter. Especially if the leader is more interested in profits than innovation. I think the build quality issues/downgrades and price increases of bodies is some evidence that they're straying (or, perhaps, treating APS-C like other brands do, and leaving the "premium" experience for GFX buyers). On the other hand, I think they're crushing with new lenses and mostly holding the line on prices. If Fuji doesn't release something affordable and also special for pros with the XT6/H3S/H3 I know I will be out. Heck, I'm already shopping other brands to get a feel for who might win my hard-earned cash.
Additional firmware 7.1 notes: Revised autofocus only applicable for slow to medium moving subjects. For faster subjects, please apply F9 ISO 12800 For improved autofocus clarity. Filming sports events is not encouraged.
nah i dont think they lost them, they are way too busy building tiny little overpriced toycameras like the x100vi or the xt-50 and some other "Nice" toys. but the problem is, they sell enough of them to get lazy and dont work on their products in a good way
I was trying to learn video on xh2s - „the best camera on the market for video” I was thinking that It’s to hard for me. Moved do Sony a7iv and now all is so easy;)
Why hasn’t anyone voicibly complain about the downgrade in AF performance on the xt3. I bought a used one, upgraded the firmware and ended up selling it two months latter because of the unreliable AF in simple pictures (af box placed in people faces). Ended up buying a Sony a7iii (zero complaints in af performance).
Edvard let me first thank you for the great work. It's simply amazing what you are doing. Once again it looks that just few have the backbone to state openly that FUJIFILM is NOT perfoming as a professional camera and even worse as expected from a serious brand. It looks like they rely too much on marketing and less and less on the engineers. They keep introducing fancy stuff while sacrifice on essential crucial performnace. Many people already decided to sell their FUJIFIM camera, and others are following. Keep going with your amazing work, and continue to spread your voice loud and clear. Unfortunately there are too many channel on YT that they just focus to praise the brand hoping to get somethins back, but keep telling bullshit they will also ruin their own reputation.
Even tho I get the job done just fine with my X-H2s, I still get mad when I see how they "improve" the AF lol, not because I necesserely need good AF, but because it's like 20 years behind the competition, while updating it every other month LOL.. I absolutely do see why ppl, who rely heavily on the AF, and subject recognition/tracking are switching left and right.. I hope they will manage to get their shit together soon, or we might not see an X-H3s and believe me I want to see one some day!
Man you can make a beat with those af chirping sounds from the Fuji cameras, they are as loud as my epson printer 🖨️. I am now having a tough time realizing the xt3 focused better than the latest generation of cameras from Fuji, what a joke
I am still using my xt3 and I remember having better autofocus before, but I thought it was only in my head. As I remember this way cause back then it was the best you could get on a Fuji.
What amaze me is that in software development when we break something we revert to the previous release. Why can't they simply revert v1 for the autofocus feature. I guess they are a hardware company and not a software company and never understood how to do it correctly ( see the mess on their mobile app). Too bad
I got my XH2 with the bad update already installed, so I don't know how it was before. Now, I am happy that at least it works. Best results: single point focus, focus sensitivity 0. And that's with my antiquated 23mm 1.4. Works much better with the 18-55mm kit lens.
I love Fuji. I also love canon, Sony & z cam LOL. Owned all of ‘em… and hated ‘em all. Every single cam manufacturer is both wonderful & infuriating, and I’m happy with Fuji now. I bought the h2s because of it’s stellar Arri-like DR and it’s autofocus (after years of being a manual focus purist I realized I could pay MUCH more attention to actors if I used autofocus). Yeah, I was put off by Fuji for screwing up the AF, and even wrote them suggesting they simply roll back to 3.03 or even 5.03 AF. Looks like that may be what they did? Now, it’s dependable basic autofocus and since I won’t be having actors rocking toward and away from the camera, ha, it’s now a stellar cinema cam with amazing DR and awesome color capture with the new flog2 C, all with useable autofocus again (and I can always go manual if needed) so I’m stoked! That said - great work Edvard! Love your passion & Fuji does need ta have their ivory tower kicked a bit lol (I’m used to hard-workin’/super-responsive Z Cam where the dynamic CEO constantly interacted with us on FB… while Fuji & other big brands hide away, never communicating directly to their base. Keep kicking that tower bro! Cheers
I just did a few tests with the 16-55mm f2.8 in various focal lengths and I’m very happy with the firmware update so far. My results overall looked much better than yours except for when you have an object of a similar color to the background. Yes Fuji is far behind other brands but this new update is going in the right direction. We have to fix the focus stepping 100% and further improve the AF definitely.
It’s not gonna be Sony but I’m satisfied with what they did even if they just went back and redid what they had already done. They tried to make steps to make it better but it failed. It’s definitely usable.
2:35 oddly enough I have similar issue with X-T3 which wasn't the case and started out of nowhere. AF wasn't great, but now it constantly gives me false AF positives :(
@@trym2121 is it possible to downgrade without the risk or with minimal risk of bricking the camera? also it might be lens firmware issue too... also also, my unit was in service repair, albeit by warranty three times already, so it might be something with hardware too :(
The ultimate test for Fujifilm is to have the XH2S XH2 and XT5 on a Canon R6 level before any further releases. All the UA-camr crowds said it was on Canon level when the XH2S was released so I think this is a fair outcome for the company and their customers
This is impossible. The R6 has about 6k AF points, and for video they specify 819 points for auto selection (almost 5k points are selectable for video). The X-T5 has a maximum of 425 points. Also its 20MP vs 40MP. It will never be on the same league in that regard.
at the beginning i had both of them r6 and xh2s, and i have to admit that i felt that the xh2s was a slight ahead, now i wish i did not sell my r6 🤣. But then i remember the lense politics from canon and i know why i sold it ^^
Let's face the truth guys...Fujifilm is not able to give us modern and reliable Autofocus. It's sad but Fuji had that last chance now. I got Sony ZV E1 two days ago...night and day. It's also not perfect but close. Goodbye Fuji, Hello Sony...I don't invest in your system anymore.
Ever since the beginning (2012) This has ALWAYS been their achilles heal of something they for some reason can't fix. Fujifilm is synonymous with bad AF at this point.
What they actually do in the past 8 months? Like for real… it took the community to revert back to old firmware in just minutes. For 8 months, they could be like Panasonic but they chose not to 🤨
Left them after my last purchase in 2019. I sensed something wasn't't right and saw a downturn in their products since then. Glad I listened to my intuition because it has been one mis-step after another since.
Please allow me to report an observation that could possibly be interesting in relation to the discussion about autofocus. Just like you, I have carried out my little tests in this regard and have tried to summarize three parameters in a scenario that is as simple as possible. 30mm macro 2.8, 90mm 2.0 and the adjustment of the two autofocus settings. The following is striking: First of all, the effect of the autofocus settings is significantly different for the two lenses. This means that I have to adjust the setting on the camera depending on the lens. This requires a more in-depth test for each lens, which costs a lot of time in advance. When in use, the results then have to be reliably re-parameterized when changing lenses. In addition to the fundamental problem of autofocus, another aspect is highly relevant to me. The “jerky” tracking of the sharpness with AFC. Surprisingly, the results with the macro are largely “smooth”. The shots with the 90mm correspond to a large extent to what can be seen on UA-cam at the moment on the subject: rough, to some extent faulty tracking of the sharpness. For me, this opens up a new level of assessment of the entire problem. The combination of the camera with the respective firmware on different lenses. Even in the Fuji cosmos. I would say that the problem for the guys is bigger than the firmware of the camera itself.
Actually totally untrue… I have a lumix g95 and the DFD autofocus is soooooooo much more confident than Fujis phase detect lol… it’s honestly sad how Fuji can’t figure this out. Sure DFD autofocus has the wobble, but it’s reliable and predictable and I’ll take that over chaotic behavior.
Good findings. I think the reason is simple: The processor / buffer is not capable to process faster focus information that's why the motor is working with these lags. So it's a hardware problem and even FW 11 won't help. In my experience it's the same with photo af. Everything is precise, som, etimes even more precise than my Sony, but when an object is moving fast in direction to the camera the whole system can't kep up. Some shots in focus, some not, like 50:50 chance.
This is actually the very opposite of what he has shown in the end. It's not a hardware limitation, Fujifilm broke something in their software back on the X-T3/4 which is still unfixed on the latest bodies.
@@JakeChambersOy yes and no. Yes, perhaps they just broke it and don't care. Or they changed it to improve other behavior because the data processing was too slow (and still is). I had the XT-3 and even with FW 3 (I can remember) the AF wasn't too precise and / or perfect. Look how the speed of processing the clarity function for photos changed between XT-4 (old processor) and XT-5. Right: It kept slow in the same way. If a processor takes 2 seconds to proceed a clarity function for a single still, how can it handle a linear motor AF with 6K data?!
@@ekvidi which is the biggest issue of them all. Even contacting them via email is a gamble. I tried twice in the past, providing them videos and in deep explanations. Not a single reply.
So…because it’s AI assisted a step back should have been expected. The plus could/should be that it “should” learn from additional training and get better from here rather than Fuji having to overhaul the AF algorithm again.
I don't understand why the motor is stepping. I have canon rp and fuji xt3 . Canon's AF never do this, and XT 3 even in fw3 do. Maybe they tried to reduce electric impulses via fw 4 but they broke af completely. Maybe it's hardware thing or software engineers are so dumb?
Canon RP today is cheaper brand new than XT3 used. Remember in camera shop in 2020 staff told me to pick entry level FF like Canon RP but I’ve told myself it’s good to start journey with aps c like XT3. I’ve bought 6 lenses, second body and other accessories into the system. It’s gonna be hard to switch to Lumix or Nikon or Sony, but maybe it’s a time to go.
@@tycjanjakubczykat this point maybe wait to see how the gen6 of cameras will turn out. Perhaps after all of this they finally realize how inportant is to have actually good AF-C and I would expect might be the biggest selling point.
@@lionheart4424 there is a hope of course. I still roots for Fujifilm to be at the better place in the market. I guess anyway I’ll keep one Fujifilm body (XS20 or XT3 but with firmware 5.0 this camera is now tricky as hell) with two-three small primes, just in case something it’s gonna change in the future. Fingers crossed for them. Now anyone please tell me why LUMIX is vastly cheaper than other FF system, where’s the catch? 😅 I’ve heard they use A7 mark III sensor in their newest lineup so maybe that’s why, but f1.8 lenses have similar prices to some Fujis f2.
Well I was thinking if I should add X-M5 as my EDC or maybe even sell my Panasonic and go back to Fuji as it's smaller and lighter but you saved me money Edvard so BIG thanks to you. As always we see ton of delusional posts and videos whenever new FW or new body is released and I almost believed that maybe indeed they fixed it this time. I just don't get it...I remember getting reliable results with my old X-E3 + XF 35 f1.4 in video, then afterwards I got X-T5 + 33 f1.4 which was worse and went downhill to the bottom. Now they hardly came back to initial results from the time when they released X-H2s and they officially stated that it's a video fix so I guess stills AF is still not repaired. This plus tons of other issues that are not taken care of for all those years like AF-S with wide angle lenses or exposure stepping is really disappointing. I hope Patrick from Fujirumors will post your video like he promised here down in the comments but I really doubt it. Too much truth to be handled on their biased forum. It's a pity because you are pushing Fujifilm to improve, otherwise people would probably be stuck with broken AF for another year or longer.
Fujifilm being slow AF (pun intended) is one thing. But delusional fanboys who simply ignore straight video proof or even call it fake are the worst thing happening in the Fujifilm community and maybe even the biggest reason we didn't see any real improvement for years. You see prime examples in this comment section.
@@JakeChambersOy I guess you are right. Why waste resources when most people are saying it's fine for them. They for sure want more resources now on GFX and their new cinema line.

Hello master roshi
Keep on fighting and uncovering the root issues, we need this. I don't think any of us would be appreciating the fix 7.1 brought if it were not for you starting the avalanche of complaints and really pinpointing the issues.
Now we have confirmation certain glitches you discovered are addressed, they are most definitely watching you, and for that we should all be thankful. But right now you are like an unpaid Fuji engineer and that sucks. They should be flying you out to Japan and giving you a big fat cheque!
I agree lol
Should we congratulate Fuji for improving their AF, or just say, 'Good job fixing what shouldn't have been broken in the first place'?

Exacto
I think we should be congratulating Edvard.

What issues did you have? With ninja V?
The same sound can be found in the LM lenses in you listen closely , camera picks up the sounds a bit ( I will show it for the 90mm LM ) so.. its not the lenses.
I have the same on my 18mm f/1.4 LM WR on X-T3 and 5. Guess it's time to downgrade the 3 and compare them.
@@JakeChambersOy yes you should
So it looks like it's exclusively a software problem, the x-mount can send signals to lens motors at high rate (well it could).
@@Moxich exactly, its their incompetence.
It looks like the camera cannot calculate how much to move focus in one command to the lens, so it moves the focus plane bit by bit and on each step it recalculates the focus.
I don't know if Sony does it in one step or if it somehow makes a bunch of small steps undetectable
Needless to say I have been waiting for your video on the update like others and wasn’t disappointed.
Firmware 1 was just too ahead of its time
Are you using on old dot matrix printer? No, just a new Fuji camera LOL. It's slightly better but like you said, still the worst AF on the market.
That motor noise gives Fuji an extra "retro" feel or a "soul". This is a feature! Can even feel the tactile vibration on older lenses like 56mm f/1.2
I really love my X-S10 but yeah, what you presented was very concrete and valid. I hope everyone gives this more awareness
really proud that i left fuji for lumix
6:35 exactly what happens to me too, shits blurry asf but the camera is like "yeah looks good to me" the fuck fuji? what are they doing
Guess what , firmware 4 on xt3 (the one wich broke the lens smoothness) focuses perfectly in every situation like that. But the XT4 wich was supposed to be better does this exact thing like my xh2s.

Yeah, the reason I got into the Fuji XH2s is that I do not use autofocus for my work. Lol. Love someone actually is pushing Fuji to do some modern things. Good job.
"PART 1" sounds like a threat!
I hope it is 🍿
love it. bro the eye box fly section killed me.
Yes , after this i ve changed my opinion
Thank you for your analyses👍👍I hope this information goes back to Fujifilm
Thks for your work. If I was fujifilm i would hire you to manage the team in charge of the autofocus!!

In 2021, Fujifilm CEO changed... All problems started since then...
/Conspiracy theory

Excellent findings, thanks for sharing

I am still using my xt3 and I remember having better autofocus before, but I thought it was only in my head. As I remember this way cause back then it was the best you could get on a Fuji.
What amaze me is that in software development when we break something we revert to the previous release. Why can't they simply revert v1 for the autofocus feature. I guess they are a hardware company and not a software company and never understood how to do it correctly ( see the mess on their mobile app). Too bad

Oops. I forgot the camera: X-H2
Firmware 7.1 is using Panasonic ancient DFD
Actually totally untrue… I have a lumix g95 and the DFD autofocus is soooooooo much more confident than Fujis phase detect lol… it’s honestly sad how Fuji can’t figure this out. Sure DFD autofocus has the wobble, but it’s reliable and predictable and I’ll take that over chaotic behavior.
@@michaellundphotography i think they messed up the PDAF code on fw4 xt3 , that's why it sounds like a printer
@@ekvidi not really sure if your comparison is valid, but I won't disagree as we simply don't know why or what is happening in their software.
@ and we don’t know if Fuji really knows…
@@ekvidi which is the biggest issue of them all. Even contacting them via email is a gamble. I tried twice in the past, providing them videos and in deep explanations. Not a single reply.
But is this the best sounding autofocus ever?
sounds like a printer
I noticed on your Talking head shot the famous focus pulse in the background is not fixed…
Yup look at the mushroom light
fw 7.1 ...
when i used the fw 1 (wich i usualy use) that background pulse is almost non existent.
Finally. Now we are in 2022 with working AF.
I was just waiting for your video. Once Edvard approves, only then I’ll update. Otherwise I’m happy with what 1.3 offers.
So…because it’s AI assisted a step back should have been expected.
The plus could/should be that it “should” learn from additional training and get better from here rather than Fuji having to overhaul the AF algorithm again.
It's too late, I sold everything Fuji related. 🤷
Good
Good riddance. I'm still thinking how to downgrade my X-T3 to firmware 3.3. I can't find a reliable source of firmware
@@trym2121 find me on instagram, ill help you out @eduardvladutu
Interesting how they still cannot make the steps in focus disappear. Why??
Uploading video now
Appreciate you for helping me save $1700
@@tycjanjakubczyk I'm not that invested, I'm hobbyist ,but it's shame that even older Canon's and Sony's af are more reliable than this new Fuji 's.
You see prime examples in this comment section.
you shall never doubt ;)
@@JakeChambersOy I guess you are right. Why waste resources when most people are saying it's fine for them. They for sure want more resources now on GFX and their new cinema line.
Good and constructive video once again! Glad it's usable again, but yeah there is still room for improvements.
