Adjust your settings be like: Don‘t move, the object should not move, perfect light, the most expensive lense and god on your side. Take 50 pictures and maybe 2 are in focus
@@TaiJason37 This is the reality of using Fuji. Based on my experience using X-H2s, WF 1.0 - 2.0 was really good, but you couldn't change ISO with the dial, only with the ISO button. Users asked about it for a year, and finally, fuji brought it with FW 3.0 and broke AF. With every new WF, AF becomes worse until FW 6.0. With FW 6.0 I had a hit rate around 50%. It was a joke and Fuji couldn't fix it for 2 months. I like doing photos on Fuji, but for me it's too much. Especially for their APS-C high-end flagman for $2500-3000 (depending on country). Hope they learn the lesson. Joking, of course, they're not.
Even shooting at 2.8 can significantly increase the heat rate I said on your videos as well that shooting at 1.4 is stupid. Good luck with being stupid can't teach intelligence. You've either got it or you haven't and I've seen a lot of your videos and you're not prepared to adjust any settings on the camera and you want it to work perfectly out of the box good professional photographer know how to adjust the settings to get it to work better. I'm not saying it's perfect by any stretch but you can definitely make a Fujifilm camera Work if you're prepared to adjust some settings, which I've highlighted above

@TaiJason37 I must be a rare breed because I realised I made a mistake buying Fuji after watching a million videos of these lying bastards that kept saying AF is good. I like the look and build of the camera and only do stills and use single point AF so still good for me as I bought it for cheap but I'm sticking to Nikon. You're right about the coping. The guy here trying to justify the AF by carefully selecting clips is just hilarious.
I shoot both Fujifilm (X-T5) and Canon (R6). I love using my X-T5 mostly for street photography, but it just does not track moving subjects very well at all compared to my R6 that I use for dynamic portrait work and sports (which hardly ever misses). Facts are facts. Thank you for making these videos. Fuji really needs to learn that this is a big problem in their cameras which are otherwise so incredibly good. Fanboys should be thanking you for making these videos as we should all be demanding better from the brand we use and love.
Love it man! TRUTH.i sold off my X-S20 it was messing up my reviews not staying in focus. I am enjoying my Sony A7C ii auto focus. I did love the X-S20 image quality.
Great video and intro! For the price we are paying for a Fuji camera, we fanboys are getting screwed. Bad autofocus needs to be factored into the price. Maybe Fujifilm needs a line of camera that is geared towards manual focus only.

That’s the issue for me - they’re advertising something that doesn’t work as marketed. Former longtime Fuji shooter here. The XT5 def did not focus any better than my old XT2. Anyway.. sold all my Fuji gear. Got a Nikon ZF. I set it to auto focus tracking and forget it. Rarely misses. At least when compared to all my old Fuji gear. No regrets making the switch.
Nice objective video. I hope that Fuji will get their autofocus issue resolved, otherwise most serious photographers will look for a more reliable camera.
I'm so glad that I left Fuji. I was struggling with colors but now with Panasonic S9 I don't miss film simulations. Actually I get better SOOC now than Fuji although it was not easy to setup at first. AF blows everything from Fuji. I don't have to tweak anything and it's perfect for both photo and video. It's such a breeze to have basically every photo in focus and especially video without this ridiculous pulsing. As a bonus IQ is fuller than aps-c as Fujirumors would say which totally applies the same as between medium format and full frame. I applaud you for making those videos and showing how silly those fujifanboys are.
Do it. I switched to Sony and I have no regrets. My 16-35mm pz f4 is sharper, smaller, lighter, and has more bokeh than the 10-24 f4 junk. And costed the same.
I did the switch myself aswell, currently hesitating between the S5IIX and the FX3. They are fooling us for sure. It’s an amazing hobbiest camera but not for professional uses
Already did. My last lens sold today. Z8 has been a breath of fresh air over the H2S. Actually performs up to it's value. Unlike a $2.5k APSC camera that is used in this video.
I hate Fuji tactics too: They make three cameras X100 VI and they sit down to look how everybody is fighting for them while the price is rising. They are going to lose all the fans they caught in their first years.

I heard about the recent issues with Fuji's AF but damn I didnt know it was so bad 😮 Currently using a Sony A7C II and I am so freaking impressed with the accuracy and speed of AF. Hopefully Fuji fixes those issues soon, I would love to try a Fuji camera in the future too 🎉

That A6700 part is why I switched from X-T5 and X-H2s to A6700 and FX30. I hope another generation will make me rethink and purchase Fuji camera again..

You're absolutely right. I love Fuji for colors and film sims, but not for their autofocus. Got an X-T3 and basically 90% of my shots are very out of focus.
I got a new hobby. If i want to relax a little bit, i go to Fuji forums or Fuji rumors just to read a few posts. The amount of salt, cope and denial is first class entertaiment. It‘s by far the worst brand rn, it‘s expensive as hell (i don‘t know why everybody is keep telling me that APS-C is cheap, it‘s clearly not for Fuji) and every new firmware is a joke. I'm glad I got rid off my X-H2S and almost all my other Fujifilm gear. I still love my good old little X-E4 with the manual focus Vöigtlander Ultron and not having to rely on the horrendous Fujifilm AF capabilities. I don't think there will be a feasible solution any time soon. Unless a miracle happens or Sony aquires Fujifilm just like Nikon aquired RED.
My hunch is that you nailed it in a previous video where you said they can't fix it and that is probably due to the mount. As far as I can tell, there are 3 factors that influence the autofocus capabilities. The CPU speed, the data bus speed from CPU to lens, and the software algorithm. I am assuming Fujis engineers have tinkered with the algorithm sufficiently as they have been criticised for their autofocus for years now. So that leaves the CPU and the data bus. I also assume that they would have considered putting a faster CPU in when designing newer cameras based on the assumption they were unable to fix it with software previously. Which leaves the data bus. Even with the faster CPU available, coupled with the best algorithm, if that data cannot be transferred to the lens fast enough, due to limitations on bandwidth through thee data bus, then they won't make any difference. Sadly that means Fuji will need an entirely different lens mount to fix the issue. My thinking is that if they do that they should probably start a full frame line and call it the "Pro line" or something. Full frame has the advantage of diffraction not setting in as early, amongst other things, at the expensive of physical mass. I personally traded in all my fuji gear, and went for a Nikon Z8 instead. The size of the mount of the Nikon is large, but that does leave room for some of the best glass I've ever used, which autofocuses very well.
Hi Andrew! I suggest you to downgrade it to firmware 1.03, it hasnt huge problems as 6.0 or 7.0 and autofocus is fine, usable. If you have any doubts about it, we are here to help :)
I guess you like your fuji because you dont have to colorize your footage to much, It looks great straight out of camera. Just watched some of your videos and I recognized the fuji pulsing for no reason immediately in some shots haha.

The worst part is Fuji was so close with 1.03 just make v7.01 the v1.03 AF with all the features up to v7 and take your time and revamp the AF algo using 1.03 as a foundation. It can be done.
Dont get me wrong, FW 1/2 its still bad in comparison with any phase detect camera.(But usable without a lot of headaches) But the latest firmwares in my experience are just 5 steps back. Camera behaves like it doesn't use phase detect at all. It seems like it is lagging. It doesnt respond fast enough to tell the lens motor to move.
@@edvard2942 They listen to their consumers and make their cameras as vintage as possible. Slow autofocus gives you time to think and enjoy the art of photography. They should remove AF all together and makesure your sd card is one time use only. Meanwhile I did the right thing and sold my fuji cameras asap. Might as well use something that works for work and get some old xt2 for the "art".
Just on point man. My first camere its the xt5, and after the most rescently update i only use the camera in single focus, becouse the AFC its a trash. i Bought the sony A6700 a couples weeks ago, and i found another good thinks like ergonomic, confort and light weight apart of the AFC that works perfect.
When or if Fujifilm fixes all these issues with their AF - these fanboys in denial should remember who to thank. I appreciate it, we definitely need to put more spotlight on this.
Since the last update I have more issues with the „normal“ autofocus, a thing that really annoys me. I could live with no eye tracking, but the other autofocus features should work…
That guy was correct though. It is the person behind the camera and the settings used. Once I understood that, i bought the R6MII and left the settings in automatic everything. Now it works perfectly with no AF issues!
I'm always surprised of people who defend a multi million dollar company. Even if they have best af in the world and we say it's bad .it's crazy that someone choose to defend a corporation that don't care about your existence.
It's the same as most Harley riders. It's the worst brand by every fact based metric. Cost, performance, handling, upkeep, maintenance frequency, reliability, etc. Yet these clowns with their HD branded socks, jackets, shirts, wallets, baby bonnets, butt-plugs, etc., spend their own money for made in China product to advertise a company as though they owned majority shares, LOL.
This problem happens with every brand. If Sony doesn't have a shutter angle in their cinema line, then it's good. If Fuji's AF is crap, then use MF to become a pro. People love to defend big companies. But in reality, they assert their personal product to think that they made the right choice.
Ive been using fuji since the xt1 when mirrorless was a fledgling product segment. The autofocusing was very slow but accurate but you could work round it! Sports moving subjects no luck with that unless you prefocus on an area. Same with the x2 and to a lesser extent xt3. But then xh2s my photos had a strange softness about them nowhere near as sharp as the even the xt1 if even in focus at all focused on nothing. All the problems mentioned here happen in photo modes to even single point, and I didnt buy xh2s to use in single point mode. I hate to say but had to move on, (canon r6mkii and a couple of L lenses) the Xh2s is quite frankly just a sh&t show, my canon rebel 400d focused better and fast than this. This was an expensive mistake x2. I sold the cameras to some poor saps on ebay. Its there problem now, but I did get all my money back minus the ebay fees. Let me be clear everything you see in this video 100% accurate it happens in video mode, AFC tracking modes for photography, and to a lesser extent single point but does happen. DO NOT BY THIS FUJI this Is where this camera will stay now with the firmware they are already talking about the xh3s. I like to same all cameras are great in the day and age but this it not even on a par with a 10 year DSLR Nikon d500.
It's a 100% a software problem. This is about continuous autofocus not just standard autofocus that has existed for years. It's just mathematics and cpu. I suppose you need to work out what is the priority on 1 frame, (i.e. use algorithm to pick out a face or a car etc) then do what photoshop does and create the outline (like the magic lasso). Then on the second frame, find that image that was outlined, calculate its new position by comparing frames, and adust the motor on the lens to move to that new position. All software. My take it is that the guys that have integrated the algorithm years back took a slightly different approach and instead of starting fresh they've tried to fix forward and apply tweaks. And each tweak isn't 100% solving the issue and now they're stuck with spaghetti code and really need to start a fresh. Thats probably why the new improvements are making it worse. Thats what happens when your solution in code is a mess. I can't be hardware as the xh2s has some of the fastest processing power around. Literally the code is just not great here. Sadly, CAF is what everyone needs as where not making movies here with full time focus pullers! And now Sony/Canon/Panasonic show it can be done Fuji need to sort it out. Reputation really does kill sales. I think Fuji get away with it because most fuji shooters are photographers primarily. But if feels like they did same thing with xh-1. It's meant to be a video first thing but its not quite up to it. Weird.
Even in Photo mode, try taking multiple sharp frames with somebody walking towards you with AF-C enabled and a Fuji LM lens. I've tried every possible setting and it's still absolutely unreliable with the majority of photos missing perfect focus on my X-T5. I did not see a single video that proved otherwise. I'm not even talking about running, just walking. The tracking is spot on, the focus part is behind.
@@JakeChambersOy Yeah, CAF is an issue which is a lot more noticeable in video but if your shooting at high FPS it's going to miss. When I think of Fuji owners I guess I dont see them doing that type of photography. I feel like their whole film simulation vibe lends it self to slower more intentional photography. (i.e. how film photographers generally shoot). I sort of see the brand as an old-school vibes camera company that dabble in new stuff like video and sports/action with an emphasis on "dabble". If they were serious in these fields they would sort out the basics that people demand in these fields. The upside of Fuji is that when it is in focus the picture quality is pretty amazing and maybe even unique. It really can look good if you take time to get over the issues. But who has the time??? Btw, you think the maths part (tracking is great) but the communication with the hardware is a problem? interesting. If thats the case maybe it's a deeper problem than I thought.
I agree with everything you say. For my personal street photography, I often just use the X-T2 with a TTArtisan 17mm MF lens. For that, perfect focus is the least I care about. But even with AF, I mainly used focus (AF-S) and recompose in the past on the X-T2 and 3. With the 5, AF-C + eye AF is not bad if there isn't any movement involved. The focus box is sticking to the eye 99% of the time but the camera/lens AF can't keep up once the subject changes distance to the lens. Fanboys constantly try to falsify this, wrong settings, boost mode, focus priority, as If you are new to the system. But I did not see a single user ever to prove that it actually delivers. All they say is "I get 90% hit rate". Well so do I, if I don't take any "demanding" photos. Stepping down the lens to workaround AF shortcomings is not using "the right settings" btw. If you want to achieve a specific look. Much older cameras can do it too, Fujifilm can't.
Because fw 1 is doing a much better job at tracking subjects in video af , yes its clearly a software issue, but they are just making it worse in my experience. Wich is unacceptable
Soon to be ex X-H2 owner here. The customising your AF is the bit that winds me up the most. I don’t want to have to tell the camera to look out for my subject entering the frame at 37.2 degrees from the right and moving at 17.4kmh in a north-westerly direction whilst wearing a blue sun hat and holding an ice cream. See that? Follow it, until I say otherwise. Sony can manage it, Panasonic can (now) manage it, and my OM1.2 can manage it - and none of those cameras have the same ridiculous amount of config options that don’t work. I don’t really shoot video and would say for photos the tracking has got much better, but it’s still unreliable for the price they charge in my opinion.
Your older videos confirmed what i was experiencing with my XS20; crap autofocus. I sold it. I just have my XH1 now which is at least decent. Beautiful colors, great grip, great stabilization, okay AF.

This is also what happens when talking about other topics (cars, computers, cell phones, etc.). When a person spends a lot of money on an object, he tries in every way to justify his expense because otherwise it would be like saying he was scammed. As an experiment I picked up the xh2s last week to see how the video af was. My main camera is a Nikon Z8. Thinking no way is it as bad as folks say. The analogy I’d use is it was like using the original blackberry phone v an IPhone 15 pro max. My belief is the best one could ever get out of the 2s would be the original firmware. I also tend to lean towards the belief that Fuji needs to focus on lenses geared towards video. It is a shame because I did like the colors produced by Fuji but no way I could use 2s for the type of video I need.
Oh damn I do not miss the "customise the settings", on Sony once it has subject lock it doesn't matter what the settings are, it is locked on and in focus, in ALL settings. I am glad I sold all my Fuji gear.
It's funny he's blaming the user yet , I have had this camera and the same lenses since it's been released. Having the same settings from previous firmware and the current firmware , only now I'm having the issues . I asked him to explain this in his comments and... crickets. Only so much you can blame the user .
I sold my X-H2S and X-S10 for a Sony A7 IV and I thank you for your videos about this issue, initially I thought that I was the problem but actually AF works way better on Sony cameras even if I like Fuji cameras

Sorry for my countryman from South Africa, makes out that there is not problem with AFC and eye detection, We would call him a big BOX here in South Africa, I agree with you , I like many others who own Fuji Cameras paid for a feature that should work as advertised , not get worst with every firmware update . The tests I have done with 2 different cameras and manufactures, 1 with my daughter a Sony ZVE10 kicks the crap out of the Fuji , 2nd a friends Panasonic DMZ FZ2000/2500 which uses contrast detect and base around the old gh4 made in 2016 and is a 1inch sensor , plus never have had, one firmware update , out performs my FUji XH2 .......in AFC. I have been in video product since 1986 and I have pretty much shot 100s of different camera and know how cameras work , come and say it is the user behind the camera . I have 3 words for him and he will know what i mean when i say JOUMASE...........
Epic video, I'm happy that I didn't sell my XT4 and XS10 (they have better AFC than the last generation), I was planning buying the XH2S and the XS20 for vídeo, so AFC is important, I can't image the disappointment of using this trash in a pay job, what a stress in the editing I would be. Now I'm planning to move to sony.

I do appreciate these types of debunking videos to be honest, as there are a lot of people on both sides of this issue talking trash. With that said, the issue of autofocus when moving closer or further away from your subject is indeed real but it is also, at least for a lot of us (assuming here), a quite niche issue. I only do wildlife photography, mainly birds, which move very unpredictably but I have not encountered any of these issues, so I suspect this is limited to the "face focus detection" algorithms somehow. I think a lot of people simply do not experience issues because they do not physically move closer and further from a human subject and just throw out a general statement that "the autofocus is working great", further dividing the community as opposed to addressing the more niche issue that seems to be at play here.
I wouldn't call this specific scenario niche, I work at events and also prefer taking dynamic portraits with movement (subject and I both). But regardless, I fully support your statement. The fact that others don't encounter issues doesn't negate them. The fact that we encounter issues doesn't make the camera useless for users who use it in a certain way that works for them. Sometimes accepting and acknowledging other's experiences would help. In the end all we want is a better working product so everybody profits.
On your screen it tracks your moving subject, but the focusing is not tracking it. Its always lagging. Fujifilm cameras are now the only "Phase detect" autofocus cameras that can't track.
X-H2s also is advertised as a cinematic monster with open gate... But I guess adding desqueeze (to use that open gate) in video was more of a priority for the photographic centric GFX100. Also if it exist why make it only for video, yes you can take photos with anamorphic, it's a vibe.
There is one very important thing that must not be forgotten! Since the Xh2s came out, it has had no real competition in its price range when it comes to image quality and versatility. I have 2 Xh2s and use them in a professional context. I have to admit that I have never used autofocus for an important project, but always with manual cine lenses. I either focus manually myself or with a 1 ac. For this application, the camera is unbeatable. Even if the autofocus is good soon, I would not use it for an important project. I would be happy to use it for private purposes. Nevertheless, I am very grateful to you, Edvard, for managing to generate attention through these videos and thus perhaps making a good camera even better! Greetings from Berlin 🎥

First time i bought a fuji was because of this, retro dials, vintage (+ image quality)... retro dials... since i noticed iso could be in front dial and ss in back dial, i have never used top dials in xt4 anymore. The thing is how long can fuji lengthen the gum with retro dials and keep fuji users when the autofocus rubbish is starting to hit them. Is everywhere. I mean, imagine im switching to another brand or starting photography. If you make a search just to find your new first camera, you are going to find the AF issue (plus the new fuji camera prices increasing). Maybe they are selling retro vintage trash to new users right now... but for how long untill the fall (which is starting to come)?
PD: next step of fuji is to increase prices to become new leica. And next step is to focus on those hipsters by turning fuji into olympus: "fuji is for nature, birds and vintage landscapes". New lenses will be plus f2.8 (f4 to be more accurate... look at new kit, 16-50 f2.8..... f4,8). Thats how olympus dissapeared, because they couldnt handle new features to compete. Sorry to add , one thing I cannot understand why fuji s Photography AF setting have more setting than the Video AF, when most other manufactures AF are standard for photography and video.
I love Fujifilm, and I would like to upgrade my gear. I currently have a Fuji X-T3, but does it make sense considering the poor autofocus? Fujifilm is making me think about other brands. Adjust your settings be like: Don‘t move, the object should not move, perfect light, the most expensive lense and god on your side. Take 50 pictures and maybe 2 are in focus

@@TaiJason37 This is the reality of using Fuji. Based on my experience using X-H2s, WF 1.0 - 2.0 was really good, but you couldn't change ISO with the dial, only with the ISO button. Users asked about it for a year, and finally, fuji brought it with FW 3.0 and broke AF. With every new WF, AF becomes worse until FW 6.0. With FW 6.0 I had a hit rate around 50%. It was a joke and Fuji couldn't fix it for 2 months.
I like doing photos on Fuji, but for me it's too much. Especially for their APS-C high-end flagman for $2500-3000 (depending on country). Hope they learn the lesson. Joking, of course, they're not.
Even shooting at 2.8 can significantly increase the heat rate I said on your videos as well that shooting at 1.4 is stupid. Good luck with being stupid can't teach intelligence. You've either got it or you haven't and I've seen a lot of your videos and you're not prepared to adjust any settings on the camera and you want it to work perfectly out of the box good professional photographer know how to adjust the settings to get it to work better. I like the look and build of the camera and only do stills and use single point AF so still good for me as I bought it for cheap but I'm sticking to Nikon.

I shoot both Fujifilm (X-T5) and Canon (R6). I love using my X-T5 mostly for street photography, but it just does not track moving subjects very well at all compared to my R6 that I use for dynamic portrait work and sports (which hardly ever misses). Facts are facts. Thank you for making these videos. Fuji really needs to learn that this is a big problem in their cameras which are otherwise so incredibly good. Fanboys should be thanking you for making these videos as we should all be demanding better from the brand we use and love.

Former longtime Fuji shooter here. The XT5 def did not focus any better than my old XT2. Anyway.. sold all my Fuji gear. Got a Nikon ZF. I set it to auto focus tracking and forget it. Rarely misses. At least when compared to all my old Fuji gear. No regrets making the switch.
Nice objective video. I hope that Fuji will get their autofocus issue resolved, otherwise most serious photographers will look for a more reliable camera.
I'm so glad that I left Fuji. I was struggling with colors but now with Panasonic S9 I don't miss film simulations. Actually I get better SOOC now than Fuji although it was not easy to setup at first. AF blows everything from Fuji. I don't have to tweak anything and it's perfect for both photo and video. It's such a breeze to have basically every photo in focus and especially video without this ridiculous pulsing. As a bonus IQ is fuller than aps-c as Fujirumors would say which totally applies the same as between medium format and full frame. I applaud you for making those videos and showing how silly those fujifanboys are.
Fuji must respond why firmware 7.0 is worse than 1.03 or refund us our cameras.

Do it. I switched to Sony and I have no regrets. My 16-35mm pz f4 is sharper, smaller, lighter, and has more bokeh than the 10-24 f4 junk. And costed the same.
I did the switch myself aswell, currently hesitating between the S5IIX and the FX3. They are fooling us for sure. It’s an amazing hobbiest camera but not for professional uses

Z8 has been a breath of fresh air over the H2S. Actually performs up to it's value. Unlike a $2.5k APSC camera that is used in this video.

You're absolutely right. I love Fuji for colors and film sims, but not for their autofocus. Got an X-T3 and basically 90% of my shots are very out of focus.
I got a new hobby. If i want to relax a little bit, i go to Fuji forums or Fuji rumors just to read a few posts. The amount of salt, cope and denial is first class entertaiment. It‘s by far the worst brand rn, it‘s expensive as hell (i don‘t know why everybody is keep telling me that APS-C is cheap, it‘s clearly not for Fuji) and every new firmware is a joke. I'm glad I got rid off my X-H2S and almost all my other Fujifilm gear. I still love my good old little X-E4 with the manual focus Vöigtlander Ultron and not having to rely on the horrendous Fujifilm AF capabilities. I don't think there will be a feasible solution any time soon. Unless a miracle happens or Sony aquires Fujifilm just like Nikon aquired RED.
My hunch is that you nailed it in a previous video where you said they can't fix it and that is probably due to the mount.
As far as I can tell, there are 3 factors that influence the autofocus capabilities. The CPU speed, the data bus speed from CPU to lens, and the software algorithm. I am assuming Fujis engineers have tinkered with the algorithm sufficiently as they have been criticised for their autofocus for years now. So that leaves the CPU and the data bus. I also assume that they would have considered putting a faster CPU in when designing newer cameras based on the assumption they were unable to fix it with software previously. Which leaves the data bus.
Even with the faster CPU available, coupled with the best algorithm, if that data cannot be transferred to the lens fast enough, due to limitations on bandwidth through thee data bus, then they won't make any difference. Sadly that means Fuji will need an entirely different lens mount to fix the issue. My thinking is that if they do that they should probably start a full frame line and call it the "Pro line" or something. Full frame has the advantage of diffraction not setting in as early, amongst other things, at the expensive of physical mass.
I personally traded in all my fuji gear, and went for a Nikon Z8 instead. The size of the mount of the Nikon is large, but that does leave room for some of the best glass I've ever used, which autofocuses very well.
You don't need to prove you are right or prove other fanboy wrong. We believe in you. We believe autofocus sucks.

Hi Andrew! I suggest you to downgrade it to firmware 1.03, it hasnt huge problems as 6.0 or 7.0 and autofocus is fine, usable. If you have any doubts about it, we are here to help :)

The worst part is Fuji was so close with 1.03 just make v7.01 the v1.03 AF with all the features up to v7 and take your time and revamp the AF algo using 1.03 as a foundation. It can be done.
Dont get me wrong, FW 1/2 its still bad in comparison with any phase detect camera.(But usable without a lot of headaches) But the latest firmwares in my experience are just 5 steps back. Camera behaves like it doesn't use phase detect at all. It seems like it is lagging. It doesnt respond fast enough to tell the lens motor to move.
@@edvard2942 They listen to their consumers and make their cameras as vintage as possible. Slow autofocus gives you time to think and enjoy the art of photography. They should remove AF all together and makesure your sd card is one time use only. Meanwhile I did the right thing and sold my fuji cameras asap. Might as well use something that works for work and get some old xt2 for the "art".

Just on point man. My first camere its the xt5, and after the most rescently update i only use the camera in single focus, becouse the AFC its a trash. i Bought the sony A6700 a couples weeks ago, and i found another good thinks like ergonomic, confort and light weight apart of the AFC that works perfect.
When or if Fujifilm fixes all these issues with their AF - these fanboys in denial should remember who to thank. I appreciate it, we definitely need to put more spotlight on this.
Since the last update I have more issues with the „normal“ autofocus, a thing that really annoys me.

That guy was correct though. It is the person behind the camera and the settings used. Once I understood that, i bought the R6MII and left the settings in automatic everything. Now it works perfectly with no AF issues!

I'm always surprised of people who defend a multi million dollar company. Even if they have best af in the world and we say it's bad .it's crazy that someone choose to defend a corporation that don't care about your existence.
It's the same as most Harley riders. It's the worst brand by every fact based metric. Cost, performance, handling, upkeep, maintenance frequency, reliability, etc. Yet these clowns with their HD branded socks, jackets, shirts, wallets, baby bonnets, butt-plugs, etc., spend their own money for made in China product to advertise a company as though they owned majority shares, LOL.
This problem happens with every brand. If Sony doesn't have a shutter angle in their cinema line, then it's good. If Fuji's AF is crap, then use MF to become a pro.
People love to defend big companies. But in reality, they assert their personal product to think that they made the right choice.

Ive been using fuji since the xt1 when mirrorless was a fledgling product segment. The autofocusing was very slow but accurate but you could work round it! Sports moving subjects no luck with that unless you prefocus on an area. Same with the x2 and to a lesser extent xt3. But then xh2s my photos had a strange softness about them nowhere near as sharp as the even the xt1 if even in focus at all focused on nothing. All the problems mentioned here happen in photo modes to even single point, and I didnt buy xh2s to use in single point mode.
I hate to say but had to move on, (canon r6mkii and a couple of L lenses) the Xh2s is quite frankly just a sh&t show, my canon rebel 400d focused better and fast than this. This was an expensive mistake x2. I sold the cameras to some poor saps on ebay. Its there problem now, but I did get all my money back minus the ebay fees. Let me be clear everything you see in this video 100% accurate it happens in video mode, AFC tracking modes for photography, and to a lesser extent single point but does happen. DO NOT BY THIS FUJI this Is where this camera will stay now with the firmware they are already talking about the xh3s. I like to same all cameras are great in the day and age but this it not even on a par with a 10 year DSLR Nikon d500.

It's a 100% a software problem. This is about continuous autofocus not just standard autofocus that has existed for years. It's just mathematics and cpu. I suppose you need to work out what is the priority on 1 frame, (i.e. use algorithm to pick out a face or a car etc) then do what photoshop does and create the outline (like the magic lasso). Then on the second frame, find that image that was outlined, calculate its new position by comparing frames, and adust the motor on the lens to move to that new position. All software.
My take it is that the guys that have integrated the algorithm years back took a slightly different approach and instead of starting fresh they've tried to fix forward and apply tweaks. And each tweak isn't 100% solving the issue and now they're stuck with spaghetti code and really need to start a fresh. Thats probably why the new improvements are making it worse. Thats what happens when your solution in code is a mess.
I can't be hardware as the xh2s has some of the fastest processing power around. Literally the code is just not great here.
Sadly, CAF is what everyone needs as where not making movies here with full time focus pullers! And now Sony/Canon/Panasonic show it can be done Fuji need to sort it out. Reputation really does kill sales.
I think Fuji get away with it because most fuji shooters are photographers primarily. But if feels like they did same thing with xh-1. It's meant to be a video first thing but its not quite up to it. Weird.
Even in Photo mode, try taking multiple sharp frames with somebody walking towards you with AF-C enabled and a Fuji LM lens. I've tried every possible setting and it's still absolutely unreliable with the majority of photos missing perfect focus on my X-T5. I did not see a single video that proved otherwise. I'm not even talking about running, just walking. The tracking is spot on, the focus part is behind.
@@JakeChambersOy Yeah, CAF is an issue which is a lot more noticeable in video but if your shooting at high FPS it's going to miss. When I think of Fuji owners I guess I dont see them doing that type of photography. I feel like their whole film simulation vibe lends it self to slower more intentional photography. (i.e. how film photographers generally shoot).
I sort of see the brand as an old-school vibes camera company that dabble in new stuff like video and sports/action with an emphasis on "dabble". If they were serious in these fields they would sort out the basics that people demand in these fields.
The upside of Fuji is that when it is in focus the picture quality is pretty amazing and maybe even unique. It really can look good if you take time to get over the issues. But who has the time???
Btw, you think the maths part (tracking is great) but the communication with the hardware is a problem? interesting. If thats the case maybe it's a deeper problem than I thought.
I agree with everything you say. For my personal street photography, I often just use the X-T2 with a TTArtisan 17mm MF lens. For that, perfect focus is the least I care about. But even with AF, I mainly used focus (AF-S) and recompose in the past on the X-T2 and 3. With the 5, AF-C + eye AF is not bad if there isn't any movement involved. The focus box is sticking to the eye 99% of the time but the camera/lens AF can't keep up once the subject changes distance to the lens.
Fanboys constantly try to falsify this, wrong settings, boost mode, focus priority, as If you are new to the system. But I did not see a single user ever to prove that it actually delivers. All they say is "I get 90% hit rate". Well so do I, if I don't take any "demanding" photos. Stepping down the lens to workaround AF shortcomings is not using "the right settings" btw. If you want to achieve a specific look. Much older cameras can do it too, Fujifilm can't.
Because fw 1 is doing a much better job at tracking subjects in video af , yes its clearly a software issue, but they are just making it worse in my experience. Wich is unacceptable

Soon to be ex X-H2 owner here. The customising your AF is the bit that winds me up the most. I don’t want to have to tell the camera to look out for my subject entering the frame at 37.2 degrees from the right and moving at 17.4kmh in a north-westerly direction whilst wearing a blue sun hat and holding an ice cream. See that? Follow it, until I say otherwise. Sony can manage it, Panasonic can (now) manage it, and my OM1.2 can manage it - and none of those cameras have the same ridiculous amount of config options that don’t work.
I don’t really shoot video and would say for photos the tracking has got much better, but it’s still unreliable for the price they charge in my opinion.
Your older videos confirmed what i was experiencing with my XS20; crap autofocus. I sold it. I just have my XH1 now which is at least decent. Beautiful colors, great grip, great stabilization, okay AF.

Will you test Lumix S5 II? Panasonic fans also praise this camera for best autofocus ever. Full frame + 10 bit video 60 fps + fast AF sounds nice.
This is also what happens when talking about other topics (cars, computers, cell phones, etc.). When a person spends a lot of money on an object, he tries in every way to justify his expense because otherwise it would be like saying he was scammed. And no one wants to be seen as an idiot who gets ripped off.

As an experiment I picked up the xh2s last week to see how the video af was. My main camera is a Nikon Z8. Thinking no way is it as bad as folks say. The analogy I’d use is it was like using the original blackberry phone v an IPhone 15 pro max. My belief is the best one could ever get out of the 2s would be the original firmware. I also tend to lean towards the belief that Fuji needs to focus on lenses geared towards video. It is a shame because I did like the colors produced by Fuji but no way I could use 2s for the type of video I need.
Oh damn I do not miss the "customise the settings", on Sony once it has subject lock it doesn't matter what the settings are, it is locked on and in focus, in ALL settings. I am glad I sold all my Fuji gear.

Sorry for my countryman from South Africa, makes out that there is not problem with AFC and eye detection, We would call him a big BOX here in South Africa, I agree with you , I like many others who own Fuji Cameras paid for a feature that should work as advertised , not get worst with every firmware update . The tests I have done with 2 different cameras and manufactures, 1 with my daughter a Sony ZVE10 kicks the crap out of the Fuji , 2nd a friends Panasonic DMZ FZ2000/2500 which uses contrast detect and base around the old gh4 made in 2016 and is a 1inch sensor , plus never have had, one firmware update , out performs my FUji XH2 .......in AFC. I have been in video product since 1986 and I have pretty much shot 100s of different camera and know how cameras work , come and say it is the user behind the camera . I have 3 words for him and he will know what i mean when i say JOUMASE...........
Epic video, I'm happy that I didn't sell my XT4 and XS10 (they have better AFC than the last generation), I was planning buying the XH2S and the XS20 for vídeo, so AFC is important, I can't image the disappointment of using this trash in a pay job, what a stress in the editing I would be.
Now I'm planning to move to sony.
Keep your xt4 and lenses, Sell the xs10 and get a sony. You have both then like me.
The A7C II is giving me sweet eyes lately, might swap after Viltrox launches some nice value high end lenses for it.

I wanted to buy an X-T5 for street work as I wanted something smaller than my Z8. But Fujis CAF is horrible. Went with an a7cii. Shame because I love the design and layout of the X-T5

I do appreciate these types of debunking videos to be honest, as there are a lot of people on both sides of this issue talking trash. With that said, the issue of autofocus when moving closer or further away from your subject is indeed real but it is also, at least for a lot of us (assuming here), a quite niche issue. I only do wildlife photography, mainly birds, which move very unpredictably but I have not encountered any of these issues, so I suspect this is limited to the "face focus detection" algorithms somehow. I think a lot of people simply do not experience issues because they do not physically move closer and further from a human subject and just throw out a general statement that "the autofocus is working great", further dividing the community as opposed to addressing the more niche issue that seems to be at play here.
I wouldn't call this specific scenario niche, I work at events and also prefer taking dynamic portraits with movement (subject and I both). But regardless, I fully support your statement. The fact that others don't encounter issues doesn't negate them. The fact that we encounter issues doesn't make the camera useless for users who use it in a certain way that works for them.
Sometimes accepting and acknowledging other's experiences would help. In the end all we want is a better working product so everybody profits.
On your screen it tracks your moving subject, but the focusing is not tracking it. Its always lagging. Fujifilm cameras are now the only "Phase detect" autofocus cameras that can't track.
Also, what do you think about the fact that when it got released with fw 1 and 2 , it worked , and now it doesnt.
X-H2s also is advertised as a cinematic monster with open gate...
But I guess adding desqueeze (to use that open gate) in video was more of a priority for the photographic centric GFX100.
Also if it exist why make it only for video, yes you can take photos with anamorphic, it's a vibe.
There is one very important thing that must not be forgotten! Since the Xh2s came out, it has had no real competition in its price range when it comes to image quality and versatility. I have 2 Xh2s and use them in a professional context. I have to admit that I have never used autofocus for an important project, but always with manual cine lenses. I either focus manually myself or with a 1 ac. For this application, the camera is unbeatable. Even if the autofocus is good soon, I would not use it for an important project. I would be happy to use it for private purposes. Nevertheless, I am very grateful to you, Edvard, for managing to generate attention through these videos and thus perhaps making a good camera even better! Greetings from Berlin 🎥
Long time ago I switched to Sony due to AF issues in Fuji, I’m really surprised they still didn’t get it fixed.
been looking at fuji for a while. after watching your videos. i went with lumix s5iix since they had a deal on. great camera.
The worse is that Fuji is making shit tons of money like never before...
For now... I dont know how they are not seeing the fall. Ive never seen so many AF issues and comments about It. So, if they want to become new expensive leica, some day nobody is buying Fuji anymore since the shit AF cant be disociated from the brand anymore... Even for new users with new expensive shitty useless cameras... Blurryfilm is over...
Hipsters don‘t care about AF, performance, FF/APS-C or technology. They just want that little retro dial thing to flex in front of others. Fuji is selling X100‘s and XT‘s like crazy. A big part of the core userbase are normal consumers shooting jpeg/simulations all day
@@TaiJason37 Thats why i switched to sony, real users with real jobs = professional cameras. First time i bought a fuji was because of this, retro dials, vintage (+ image quality)... retro dials... since i noticed iso could be in front dial and ss in back dial, i have never used top dials in xt4 anymore. The thing is how long can fuji lengthen the gum with retro dials and keep fuji users when the autofocus rubbish is starting to hit them. Is everywhere. I mean, imagine im switching to another brand or starting photography. If you make a search just to find your new first camera, you are going to find the AF issue (plus the new fuji camera prices increasing). Maybe they are selling retro vintage trash to new users right now... but for how long untill the fall (which is starting to come)?
PD: next step of fuji is to increase prices to become new leica. And next step is to focus on those hipsters by turning fuji into olympus: "fuji is for nature, birds and vintage landscapes". New lenses will be plus f2.8 (f4 to be more accurate... look at new kit, 16-50 f2.8..... f4,8). Thats how olympus dissapeared, because they couldnt handle new features to compete. Fuji is more focus on new trashy cameras to new users instead of keeping old users which are switching right now. If you cant keep your base... your business is over

They know they can‘t catch up with Sony, Canon and Nikon, but they keep looking at their sales and how much ppl are paying for (let’s be honest again) some cheap to produce X100IV. They trying to get a new (and rich) audience which doesn‘t care about quality itself and is much more interested in the brand/feel/style itself. It‘s risky, but it can work. Fuji wants to be like Apple, Prada or Rolex and most ppl buying these brands don‘t look at other brands or compare them for a second. Nikon/Sony/Canon is better? They will never know and they don‘t care

Thanks to you I sold my XH2S. Because why should I settle for subpar autofocus. I’ll stick with Fuji for the cuteness of the x100Vi only 😂 and for projects go back to canon now.
Crazy how many still defend Fuji after proof the AF is trash. So angry I wasted 2 years on them. IQ was excellent......when it focused. Can't wait for the next Fuji camera with bad AF. Good luck Fuji shooters. I feel for ya.
Sorry to add , one thing I cannot understand why fuji s Photography AF setting have more setting than the Video AF, when most other manufactures AF are standard for photography and video.

I love Fujifilm, and I would like to upgrade my gear. I currently have a Fuji X-T3, but does it make sense considering the poor autofocus? Fujifilm is making me think about other brands. But does Fujifilm watch your videos? Are they asleep? Why don't they let their customers know that they're trying to fix the problem? It's 2024, and the autofocus shouldn't be this bad.
