To answer the actual video heading. Comparing to canon r6mkii (I now this and have own the Xh2s) I say the focusing system, single point is about 2 generations behind and the AFC is 4-5 generations behind. sorry fuji loved you but I need the pictures to be in actual focus.

I have some fuji cameras (xt3, xt30 ii, xt4, xh2) and autofocus isn’t perfect, but i find some lenses are handling better than others. Native Fuji with LM are pretty accurate, I like to shoot with sigma 18-35 and it’s not that bad. For my needs enough, fits my style of shooting. But it’s not perfect at all

Something's really not right with these new Fujifilm cameras when my old X-S10's autofocus is better. It's still bad, but not that bad. My camera upgrade is getting closer and closer, and it really seems I'm jumping ship. Too bad because I love the Fuji colors.

You are speaking for thousands and thousands of people. I finally sold my Fuji gear a year ago because even then I hated the Fujifilm autofocus. It’s totally unacceptable. I went back to Canon and don’t even think about autofocus anymore. Get it together Fujifilm, we want to love you but you make it so difficult!

I went to firmware 2.01 (pre-algorithm) on my x-h2 and it's 400% better than firmware 5.0. Does anyone know where I can download firmware version 1.10 for the x-s20?

I use GFX 50s and I can say that the things I shoot in a studio, the 4x3 proportion is irreplaceable. But I use focus for landscapes and studio one point and tragically slow. I was wondering if I should extend the lenses which I have, so that I can also photograph moving people without having sports in mind. /Low sync speed, black out, no focus, no frame burst, no electronic shutter with flash/ I was hoping with the new sensor and processor this would become tolerable. So I'm now looking at getting a full frame CANON. This is absolutely unacceptable for a 2024 aps-c sensor. Someone seriously fails in АF department at the expense of many other things that are ok.

Looking at all the problems with the autofocus, I didn't change my first firmeware, I take bird photos, and generally it can focus quite well! xt4, I love it !(even though I have the 2h)

Thanks so much for this! I upgraded from 3.01 to 2.01 on my X-H2 and the autofocus works so much better even in low light! It's a shame so many of the pictures I took of my puppy when she was little were ruined by bad focus

I have downgraded my X-H2 from 5.0 to 3.10. I see also improvments in the image quality. Then I have compare Files from different firmware-versions. With ever new firmware-version, the image quality gets worse...

Kept my xh1 as i do mostly slow stuff and focus manually, i am not a video shooter, if i were to shoot video id use my iphone, it tracks good. Some ppl talk about some bug.

Thanks for making the effort to show this. I called Fujifilm with this issue about a year ago and there was no explanation. It drove me nuts. I went back to Canon.

Thank you so much for this video. I shoot with Fuji X-T200 with XC 15-45mm and Sigma 56mm 1.4....and this exact same issue exists in my camera too...for some time I thought it's because I'm using a cheaper Fuji camera or maybe because of the third party lens but looking at your tests and some other videos... I'm now convinced that this issue exists across all Fuji cameras. I've now decided to slowly shift towards Sony.

It has been 3 month since the last firmware update and yet Fuji is still not solving the problem.

Oh damn I do not miss the "customise the settings", on Sony once it has subject lock it doesn't matter what the settings are, it is locked on and in focus, in ALL settings. I am glad I sold all my Fuji gear.

What if you disable hand eye detect and manually select eye ? Does it do same ?

how did you even not mention - rolling shutter with hybrid shooting (electronic front curtain), A7's are the only ones with a full fidelity mechanical curtain, the a7c and cii have a single curtain, which increases the shutter sync from 0.3 to 0.15. -Electronic shutter sensor readout Sony A6700 would be perfect if it had unrestricted full fidelity mechanical shutter up to 1/8000 but it is limited to 1/4000, the sensor readout is 25 MILISECONDS, that's A LOT of time, causing god awful rolling shutter. -uncompressed raw vs compressed 12bit To shoot uncompressed RAW you can only set the camera to the lowest shots per second value (3fps/5fps depending on the model) these things are FUNDAMENTAL for photographers but all it seems like you and all only care about video. Side note; Sony cameras are very limited because they want to make them affordable. You see Fuji's cameras are extremely overpriced and their mount is by far one of the least flexible of them all. Even the adapters have an optical element that not only reduces sharpness, but it also suffers from reducing a whole stop of light. As a hobbyist, my perfect pick would be the Sony A99II but there are no longer new units and the ones sold second hand are in god awful condition. So i will have to switch from A77II to A7IV + LA-EA5 and probably will never need anything more else, all I would have to switch is the batteries. But for now I'm very happy with the a77ii, it's autofocus is BRUTAL especially with minolta HS APO lenses.

As a fujifilm fanboy, I am a fanboy of what works, and when it doesn't, I criticize it so the ones responsible can fix it. I love the colors and build with manual controls that fujifilm makes, but the autofocus must continue to be criticized until fujifilm properly fixes it. And unfortunately it isn't something new. Philip Bloom made an in depth (as all of his videos) analysis several years ago of a then new X-T4 with many different lenses, and the autofocus wasn't consistent... For most of my hobby needs, it's ok, I manually focus to take street photography and landscape captures. But I really suffer with birding. @edvard2942 again, as a fujifilm fanboy, I really enjoy and appreciate your videos, and hope fujifilm listens to you, so all of us can benefit.

When or if Fujifilm fixes all these issues with their AF - these fanboys in denial should remember who to thank. I appreciate it, we definitely need to put more spotlight on this.

Very useful video. In my camera collection I only have one fuji product, (old S5 pro) and love the colour but I have more modern cameras and often miss focus especially on long vintage lenses. I think that good autofocus is the quality that matters most to me even as someone who is mainly interested in still photography rather than video. I would be interested in learning which cameras have the best auto focus on the market today.

Didn’t update the firmware and it works fine. It’s a stupid situation where I have to stay on older firmware to have autofocus
