Before you purchase a stryd foot pod, know this … My stryd is less than two years old and won’t hold a charge. When I contacted stryd to get the battery replaced, I was told they couldn’t do that and that I would have to buy a new foot pod. However, they were “generously” going to give me a 35% discount on a new foot pod. I asked them “Why in the hell would I buy a new one when you guys wouldn’t even stand behind my current one?” I’m not saying everyone will experience the same battery issue I am experiencing, but you need to be aware that they do not have a good system in place to address that situation when it does occur. It’s just incredible to me that they can’t swap out a battery and charge me some fee for that instead of requiring me to buy a whole new unit. Incredibly disappointed in their customer support.
Hi Jeffery, sorry to hear that you've had trouble with the Stryd pod. Strange that they don't have a better solution for you than to buy a new one. I haven't heard of anybody else having this problem, so I wonder if it's something other people have experienced too.
Hey Arno.. Was searching for some reference video for Stryd, really informative for decision making. Keep up the good work. But little disheartening to know that, what was earlier priced at $219 ( with 15% discount too) is now costing $279 .. Streep hike yeah, got me thinking again if I should pay such high increase 😢
Hi Monil, I wasn't aware there was a price increase. I just checked the website and I still see the old price. For me it automatically goes to the European version, but even when I then go to the US store the price is $219 as far as I can tell. The 15% discount they had was only a very short period, they normally don't give any discounts. Are you checking the Stryd website or somewhere else? If you use the link under my video you should be able to get the $219 price I think.
RunArnoRun Thanks for your reply Arno. I understand discount was there for a short period but to my surprise, it’s showing 279 USD on site. I’m in India, may be some different link and it kinda weird. But anyways, shall check. Thank you .. 🙌🏼
Monil Gheewala maybe the price went up in India for some reason. Could maybe have to do with customs or shipping? Let me know is the link works for you to get the ‘normal’ price of $219.
RunArnoRun Unfortunately not, link also takes me to the site which is showing same $279. Let me check with someone from US directly who can bring it here instead.. 👍🏼
It should actually be more accurate than GPS, this is also what Stryd themselves claim. Pretty soon I will make a video and compare the way all kinds of different apps and devices calculate distance. So coming soon. 😄👍
I believe it has. And not only my pace time, it gives me a better way to check if I should put in more effort or less to sustain my effort for the duration of the run, so it ultimately helps me to not have to slow down at the last part of my run from exhaustion, so I can finish strong and faster than before.
Hey Arno. I am considering a Stryd but I have have a question about initial calibration that maybe you can help me with. In my area, we have tons of hills. I’m fact, it’s nearly impossible to find a 1-mile stretch of relatively flat ground. For initial calibration, do you think the hills would create an inaccurate reading that would essentially deem the Stryd useless? If I can’t find a flat trail or track to calibrate the Stryd, is it worth purchasing? I’ve looked on some Stryd community groups on social media but these guys might as well be speaking another language. They’re talking high science stuff that’s not helpful to an average Joe like myself.
I don't think you need to worry about calibration all too much. The Stryd should work straight out of the box. Calibration for the pod it self is to make sure it measures distance and speed properly, but it is set to work the way it should when you get it. The other thing to 'calibrate', which is probably what you are referring to, is your running level and to see what your running power is. This is something the Stryd learns when you run with it. So you just wear the Stryd for at least 5 runs and it will get a feeling for how you run. The fact that the roads are not level is not an issue, because Stryd will also take in account elevation gain. If you actually had to do a calibration on level ground I think everybody who can't run on a track would have a problem. Here in the Netherlands our country is flat, but still it would be hard to find a long stretch that is actually without any difference in height. Are you buying your Stryd from their website? If you are would you consider using my link? The price of the Stryd is the same, but I get a small incentive from them, which helps me grow my site. Also when you are on their website you can sign up for their newsletter, they do mail you quite a bit and a lot of it is very technical, but they also have really informative mails, do tests and make videos to help with your training. I hope this will help, I love running with the Stryd pod and seeing how I'm running during my run in real time and getting all the stats afterwards. eu.stryd.com/?ref=mkwfofr2c When you do decide to get it and you've run with it a few times, let me know what you think of it. Kind regards, Arno
@@brumbaughranchthegarrettli6410 I'm sorry to say that Stryd got back to me and let me know they made a mistake. The coupon code was only valid in December, I was still testing the Stryd then and not ready to put up the video yet, but now it's not valid anymore. Bit of a bummer. Sorry about that. I hope you might still consider getting it, it is a great gadget for your runs and the cost I mentioned in the video of $250 is actually less at the moment, it's $219 in the US store, so a little bit of savings there still. Sorry again if the video seemed misleading, this was not my intention.
@@RunArnoRun of course! Not your fault. I'm between the zwift pod and this one, so anything that makes the difference from $40 (zwift) to $220 (stryd) is huge!
2 reasons, I kept getting all kinds of support questions from people because Stryd wasn't helping them and didn't provide any customer service. And the second reason, because they have an affiliate program where they got a lot of sales through my links and videos, but felt that they didn't have to pay me what they owed me. So company that treats their customers and affiliates like crap should not get endorsement from anybody.
@@RunArnoRun Thanks Arno and I agree. Shame about the service, but good to know it wasn’t the product itself. Still, it makes me think twice if the service is so bad. Thanks for all your videos - great job!
Hi there - really interested from a casual runners perspective. Not so interested in running half marathons/races and wanted to know if you would still recommend for a casual runner? Does pod allow you to start a run at a set distance for example? like 10k and then help you pace yourself through the power meter to get to 10k comfortably without feeling exhausted by say 8k mark for going out to fast.
Hi, the Stryd works for any distance. I recently tried to work on my 5K speed and the Stryd comes in really handy for that. You don't have to set the pod for a certain distance, but through training with the Stryd you will find out what your sustainable power reading is, so that on race day you know how to keep your speed in check. You can use the Stryd dashboard ,after having used it for a little while, to enter the race distance you want to run and it will give you a prediction of what time you should be able to run it at. It doesn't have to be for half marathons, if you're running 5K or 10K it works just as well.
Hi Arno, great practical and honest video. Just to let you know that I contacted Stryd with the discount code and the background you mentioned. Low and behold they came back within an hour and honoured the discount! Great service compared to some other customer services from gadget suppliers. Keep up the work!
If this was something like $60, I'd probably give it a go, but at $200+, it's way outside what I can spend. Is there any cheaper option available with the same functions? 😀😀

I'm having connection issue bw stryd n iPhone 's like disconnects 40% of the time, pretty frustrating.
could it be that another device is trying to connect to it and it interferes with it? Maybe check your bluetooth settings.
Is it compatible with Samsung Galaxy S3 Frontier?
You can, here is some info on that: support.stryd.com/hc/en-us/articles/360018984813-Can-I-use-Stryd-with-a-Samsung-Watch-
For Garmin Stryd talk with the Garmin nicely?
Yes, it works with Garmin just as well as Apple watch. 👍
I've bn using it with a Polar watch, it's Ok with it.
Does it automatically show the Stryd info on your watch or will it show the Polar data while you're running when you have both on?
Excellent !
Does it work with the Strava app on Apple watch?
It has it's own app, cause it gives you data you can't get on strava. You can still run Strava at the same time when you run, I do that too.
Long runner check in
The Stryd is great for long runs 😉
