I cross shopped the Z, the Supra and the ND3. I really like the new Z. In fact, I like driving it better than the Supra. The Supra felt very remote and digital and the interior is very BMW. I would rather get a Z4. Modern BMWs feel like a video game to drive. I probably would have bought the Z but I seriously hated the shifter, clutch and steering feel. Both the Z and Supra are fast, heavy, decent handling GT cars. The MX-5 on the other hand is a no BS sports car. Not nearly as fast as those others in a straight line but there aren't many cars made that can hang with an ND3 in the canyons where HP means very little. That's exactly what I really wanted. For me, it's just way more fun to drive 90% of the time. I bought a 2024 MX-5 GT and I just absolutely love it.

I think the Z4 feels different than the Supra. Supra is more raw compared to the Z4. Z4 is more comfortable. Going with a Supra hopefully before next spring.

I really enjoyed this comparison because a dealer near me keep asking to me get their performance package Nissan Z but I never pull the trigger on it. I like the looks of it as well! This was an interesting take! Never thought about comparing the two

This was a cool review. The Miata reminds me of the original Datsun 240z if they really modernized it. I'd like to get one used later down the line,but it diffently would have to be the RF.

Great video, unfortunately, if you want to turbo charge the ND mx5 like I did you have to have the first or the second version because of the ECU's tunability, but it's a rocket now and with the high compression it builds 5-6 psi of boost immediately and feels more like a supercharger.

I'm in Australia. Ran a 1.5 ND (with limited slip diff in Aus) for six years and 85,000 miles it was perfect. Have a new 2 litre ND 3 on order for Jan 25 delivery, as it will most likely be the last of its type. I tried the Z car, but it felt like driving a truck compared to the Miata. The weight difference is something that sticks in the throat for every single mile. Do you agree? You'd still have your Miata over anything else?
It really does feel like a truck. I agree with you 100%. Miata and Camaro SS 1LE are my top 2. I have more fun in the Miata though.

I used to have a 350z and have an ND2 RF GT now. I find the Z and Miata comparison fairly apt. The Z's are basically just fat miatas. I have love for both in my heart.

Last weekend I rented 2023 mx-5 for a weekend..... It's so much fun. But, my rental had a drony exhaust and a busted wheel bearing in the rear, made lots of noise.
just drove a nd2 at car max man loved sliding it and revving it and the noise was great it had a roadstesport exhaust on ! im coming from a 981 cayman manual. Also i prefer the soft top comparison imo soft top is better for track(roll bar fits) and less weight means less brakes needed anyway. Ill probably buy and NB miata for cheap but the nd is the dream for me. I thought the nd2 was a fast car, everyone saying miata are slow had me expecting a much slower car. I actually want a slower car as crazy as it sounds. The Z i feel like has better competitors like the Supra for more cash or used or the 86 for less at different prices. or mustang with another taste.

@@QueTheChaotic yeah I hope to get an ND1 to solve that it should be good. I have a z3 3.0 that's just perfect speed wise but the suspension is too old tech to put it simply
ND has similar straight line acceleration & speed of a mid '80s 911 sc.
Not slow. Just slow compared to pretty much everything else on the market now.

I want a mazada MX5 so bad. I own a Mazda RX8 that I’ve had for 20 years, a 2021 Camaro SS 1LE and I just need to the MX5 to complete my cars then I’m done. A true driver’s car.

The problem with high performance manual cars is that they're geared to pass California noise pollution regulation tests. So if you wanna floor it up to the speed limit, banging through the gears, you get exactly one shift, since the long-ass 2nd gear takes you up to like 110 mph.
As always a great review. I really wanted to like the Z. Thought about trading my Camaro for one. But it’s just not compelling enough. I’m more tempted by a Miata for sure. Mazdas are just so connected to the road. Nobody does steering or handling like them.

I bought a 2024 Nissan z performance traded in my 2021 awd Mazda 3 turbo hatchback. The Z is all sport no luxury like the Mazda the Mazda has a mix of sport and luxury. Mazda 3 feels more refined. But I do like the fact I shifting gears again. Really missed it.

Miata seems smooth fast and fun. The Z seems fast but clunky asf. You could hear the the road and probably feel it suspension wise if you can hear it.

I don't think the Z competes well with the Supra. Supra has more power down low instantly, better shifter, full leather rather than the plastic cloth in the Z, Supra has adaptive suspension, better tech and beats the Z on the track. Z has fuel starvation on the track too, even the Nismo. It is an interesting car and I do like the retro look and blue interior if it was blue leather like the M4 offers.
The dealer by me said the Nismo that was on the floor doesnt even come in manual. If thats true stupid.

The Z has to be the biggest let down release of the last 20 years. Nissan waits more than a decade, gives us this and then the dealers try to charge an arm and a leg for it. No wonder no one’s buying them, just an all around epic fail.
Just get the base model for $40k. All the performance parts are just carry over stuff that's been going on them since 2009. So find used 370z sport brakes, diff, and wheels for very cheap sub $2k
@@FATmenDRIVEtrucks Exactly. I do think the base should come with the LSD, though. On the other hand there are better after market options.
Parts bin car that could be argued is not as good overall as the previous one.
