Thinking about that literally every time i’m watching his reviews or instagram stories (straight as an arrow tho). The best car journalist today for me.
Henry is the most underrated journalist in all of automotive journalism. I've followed him from EVO to Drivetribe and now here and he never disappoints.
Coming back to this video a couple of years later and it's still great. I forgot the line about the GT2 being the mad mate on Friday night for shots. Fantastic bit of writing.
Your challenge to Porsche is exactly what I’ve been waiting for. I’ld go even further and say with a base 911 powertrain, it could be an updated interpretation of the 912.
Another first class video from Henry! That conclusion summed what I thought the 911T should’ve been in the first place. Lower cost, lower weight, fixed option, entry level 911.
I’m with Henry. I want to see them come out with a more affordable rear engined 911 that goes back to the basics of simple interior (no one needs another computer in their car when we all have our smartphones), Manual transmission, smaller light weight design that can provide a dynamic driving experience. We don’t need another 911 trim to choose from that lays between the Base 911 and 911 S. If someone wanted to shed 20kg from their 911 they can easily do so by fitting a titanium exhaust, lighter rims, take out the rear seats, etc and reduce its weight even more than the T. I understand what Porsche was trying to accomplish here and feel Henry nailed it on the head with this review. Another great video from Carfection!
Great video, shocking price point! I think a 997 with minimal money spending on it and a few weight saving modifications is the car you’re talking about.
Yep. In many ways I feel like my 997 with 6mt is more of this idea of a "drivers car" than say my brothers 991.1 w/ PDK and electronic steering. It's like old is now new again. I guess Porsche had enough feedback to take notice which I am glad.
Couldn't agree more !! Thank you. Someboy finally understands. I drove all the 911 in my last video and that was my beef with the 911 and with the T. The best part of Henry's videos, is the genuine opinion. Something one can relate to. And something very rare theese days. On of the few motoring channels I enjoy watching - Mr. Catchpole - Good Man!
Good video Henry as always. Your comment at the end is one of a true enthusiast: 'Bring us a stripped out 911 for less than a base Carrera'. Well, Porsche clearly did back then. 'Blame' the engineers, most likely. Trouble is, this is now and Porsche's business model is a little different these days. "Give them less and make them pay for it, they'll love it", I hear the marketing department shout. It's a win, win. For Porsche that is... No wonder they have a profit margin on their cars that other manufacturer's can only dream of. It's a fine line between buying into a brand with it's provenance, motorsport heritage and the cars it creates and being taken for a mug.
Yes for all the things you DO get, but I really disagree with removing the radio. A simple radio and 2 speakers barely weigh 5kgs max, thats 0.33% of the weight at 1500kgs. Noticable weight saving? Surely not but I guess that's besides the point, its all about marketing. Great review though
Extreme driver focused car. Love it. Pleasant change from all the crossovers doing 35 in the 45 while texting and playing tv for billy in the back. Wasting precious miles of road. This car is magnificent because it reinforces all about driving.
Hi Henry. Great video as always. Ironically the Porsche that is the attainable drivers car ....is the Cayman to which you refer,.. Admittedly ...its without the kudos of the 911 but no less of a car ..and to those of us in the know...a bloody wonderful drive !
Hopefully the road porsche is going down also inspires other car manufacturers to offer more purist versions of their current modern cars with manual transmission, slight weight reductions and generally simpler held interiors. I firmly believe that these are the cars that attract people and these will be the cars who‘ll hold their value well in the future. The only problem is that they‘re slightly too expensive imo. Sorry for possible grammar-mistakes and have a good day everyone. As always a beautiful and interesting video! Thank you!
I'm a big fan of Henry Catchpole's eloquent and insightful commentaries. He is surely the most cerebral of all the car bloggers? Does anyone recognise where this review was filmed?? I wish they would give the area a mention in these reviews.
I love the ethos behind the T and I really liked what you had to say about it but I don't know if it's quite there. It's as if Porsche missed an opportunity.
Excellent video, and Henry you've hit the nail on the head as far as I'm concerned,I just want a simple, focused and lightweight 911 for "driving" not mincing about in city centers !! ( and yes I'd like it in orange please)
john m you clearly haven’t owned one then have you. It’s not a rip off when it is the best car out there for the money. The 911 is an amazingly addictive car that feels like nothing else. They are worth every penny. Many of the special models end up being worth more than their original RRP so clearly they aren’t ripping people off as many people are willing to pay more than Porsche charge.
It's not about me bong smoker, it's about advertising it as a stripped down lightweight version of the 911 that costs just as much but offers no real gains.
"A driver's 911" But it has that dull turbo engine though. Bait aside, it's interesting to see such a throwback. And if you want that super cheap 911, they should try a crack at the 912 again. That’d be a blast to see.
Generic Memes almost every review of the base 911 says it has the best, most responsive engine out of the new turbocharged line-up. I love the old n/a engines and a turbo can't compare in regards to soul and response but I think turbo charging was the best update to the 911 in years due to all the gains in performance and economy.
You'll hear about all the negatives when the next one comes out :D Thats how it is when reviewers test Porsches. Its all magnificent, no downsides. Except when the next one comes out :)
The base engine without the larger vario vein turbos has the better linear response. Pretty much all reviews have said that. Still will I sell my 3.8 NA engine to get one. Not yet. No.
"You don't have to feel something to know it's there, and feel better about the car as a result" - poetry! Doesn't that explain so much about a love of cars.
Wow - I actually own a 911T! 1971, Irish Green, houndstooth and vinyl seats, webber carbs, dog leg manual box, blaupunkt Frankfurt AM/FM radio and all of 950kg in weight :-).. Would LOVE you to drive it and compare Henry. Fantastic content as usual mate.
I dont see the point really .. i mean if u want a lighter less powerful porsche u just buy a cayman and thats it .. but paying 85k for a car with no sat nav or infotainment system and its only saving few kilograms is just ridiculous ..
Harry, how proud of yourself were you when you made this brilliant analogy?! About the 911 T “And while the gt2rs is like the mad friend that you go out with once a year for shots on a Friday night and need to wake up on Tuesday, the 911 T should be your best friend, who you don’t have to make an effort for but you do anyway”
Exactly! - No rear seats - No radio - No sat nav - No nothing - smaller wheels All with the intent of producing a Porsche, true to its intended intent, purpose and heritage, all at an investment price reachable by many more well deserving, appreciative enthusiasts.
Henry you are a brilliant presenter. Captivating, descriptive, emotional. Best out there at the moment in my opinion since Harris has slowed his UA-cam work. (Can’t stomach new top gear, makes me cringe)
Your challenge is perfect, bring the drivers car, i have been fortunate to own from a standard Carrera to a 920hp 380kph beast of a 911 and your comment to make just the drivers car cheap and easy is perfect because the price may go up but the the thing about a Porsche is that initial feeling you get through the steering wheel. No other car brand has mastered that Porsche feel.........
Been there and done that. Gone the long way around for everything in my car 😅. Just not in this which i think is my favourite 911. The only changes i wish porsche did in addition to all of the others was gt3 suspension and steering.
Well done, sir! --And yes, it would be so nice to have a reasonably-priced 911, but Porsche probably has figured out that they make the most money selling expensive ones. Here in the U.S. the 2020's are out and one can't even buy a used 2017 for under $75,000 or so.
I cant see the point in this car...just Porsche trying to cram another 911 into their range....its getting old. Come on Porsche...step up your game...bring on the next 918!
Because a 918 and a 911 variant are on the same price point?..sure...although I agree this trim is not exactly a 'back to basics' approach like the marketing would like you to believe comparing this to another flagship makes no sense.
Sany0 Fair point, but 911 is their bread and butter. 918, while car enthusiasts love it, less than .1 percent will ever drive one. That's the reason for so many 911's. And the money they get from it funds the other projects, like 918, electric and so on.
Henry makes an excellent point re the no cost options. Porsche should reduce the price if you don’t have them. I’m surprised there is only a 20kg weight reduction, I wonder what the rear seats weigh on their own?
As long as I can remember, playing your favorite tunes in your car while driving is a must. I’m lucky to own cars with engines/exhaust that sound amazing but, I have to have my tunes playing. In fact I can’t drive without music playing. And no, I won’t listen to music with earphones from my cell phone while driving earlier. Jeez, what does a stereo system weigh? If that really effects the car of your choice, then maybe you should pick one with a little more horsepower and better suspension.
Is it just me or is Henry's voice really relaxing?😅 Great video though and top tier cinematograpy as always❤️
he should read an audiobook
Thinking about that literally every time i’m watching his reviews or instagram stories (straight as an arrow tho). The best car journalist today for me.
Very calming voice. They always supplement it with very zen music too. He speaks quietly.
a book about porsches
Was thinking the same
i love the fact that you guys aren't drifting the whole episode :)
3:28 when you look to your friend hoping to share the moment with them but then you remember...
great content guys. Dare I say it? My favourite car channel on youtube at the moment!!
Your challenge to Porsche is exactly what I’ve been waiting for. I’ld go even further and say with a base 911 powertrain, it could be an updated interpretation of the 912.
While an excellent car, to describe it as lightweight is deeply disingenuous. Knock off 150 kilos - that would be lightweight.
Did he say it's only 20 kg lighter ? Were the rear seats and infotainment previously made of foam and clouds ?
Another first class video from Henry!
That conclusion summed what I thought the 911T should’ve been in the first place. Lower cost, lower weight, fixed option, entry level 911.
I always relax to Henry's voice then have a giggle at his name
I’m with Henry. I want to see them come out with a more affordable rear engined 911 that goes back to the basics of simple interior (no one needs another computer in their car when we all have our smartphones), Manual transmission, smaller light weight design that can provide a dynamic driving experience. A simple marketing ploy by Porsche to shift a load of base 911’s at £10k above base price just before the new 992 comes out
As a 991 GTS owner and Porsche enthusiast for 35 years I just love your reviews ...compulsive viewing as always
Thanks Henry.
It's incredible how much I like to listen to Henry.
Great video, shocking price point! I think a 997 with minimal money spending on it and a few weight saving modifications is the car you’re talking about.
I agree - beautiful car but a 997 probably better to drive and a better investment!
And an exhaust change
Yep. In many ways I feel like my 997 with 6mt is more of this idea of a "drivers car" than say my brothers 991.1 w/ PDK and electronic steering. It's like old is now new again. I guess Porsche had enough feedback to take notice which I am glad.
One of the most poetic car videos ive seen
One after the other you guys make such beautiful videos that I spend all of my Internet data watching and rewatching this channel
One of the best reviews I've seen for a while. Would be nice to see them do the same with the Boxster!
EasyMoney21 Yes, mug in this context means idiot or a fool. That’s the English language for you, or at least my version of it!
Great video, thank you - can’t wait for mine!
TGE TV Hahaha, what aren't you buying these days. Hope you have a TVR on order too. I'm just jealous.
🤦🏽♂️
TGE TV can’t wait for mine either!
Nice to catch Henry saving this channel, good sound too, you can be heard thank goodness!
Your proposal to Porsche at the end of the film is so spot on! Bravo!!!
Simply the best Car Video productions on UA-cam. Well done
Thank the baby Jesus!
Been waiting ages for a good, new Porsche video.
Top production as always. Looking forward to the next one
Great video guys... and epic production.
I'd rather have no radio than 2 measly speakers. A nice engine sounds better than any sound 2 speakers can make.
He said you could get the radio at no extra cost, so it is up to you really.
Marios Hadjineophytou same with the door handles. .6kg
Amazing car & vid Henry! Thanks for sharing that passion with all of us , cheers!
one of those vids so good I wish it was 4x the length. Most excellent argument for a cheaper bare minimum bare bones parts bin 911 too.
Great review. And very good points at the end
The video quality is out of the world
Thanks for another great mystic video Mr. Catchpole
The presentation is so good even alittle lower priced Porsches can be good still not cheap
This video was awesome! Pretty sure I had the same smile on my face watching this as he was wearing at 3:27 😁 awesome video! Thank you!
Extreme driver focused car. Love it. Pleasant change from all the crossovers doing 35 in the 45 while texting and playing tv for billy in the back. Wasting precious miles of road. This car is magnificent because it reinforces all about driving.

Admittedly ...its without the kudos of the 911 but no less of a car ..and to those of us in the know...a bloody wonderful drive !
The starting few lines were so deep! I’d believe anything this guy tells me. Have been waiting for this review.
Love the channel, Keep up the awesome work!!!

Awesome car, extraordinary review! Pure class!
Henry, your journalism has really improved. Much more mature, excellent.
Another great video - thanks for the great work!
I'm a big fan of Henry Catchpole's eloquent and insightful commentaries. He is surely the most cerebral of all the car bloggers? Does anyone recognise where this review was filmed?? I wish they would give the area a mention in these reviews.
It was shot down on Exmoor (but that's just between you and me, otherwise everyone will be heading there...).
Nice to reference relatively unknown (outside of endurance racing) Nick Tandy, Pat Long will be jealous!
I love the ethos behind the T and I really liked what you had to say about it but I don't know if it's quite there. It's as if Porsche missed an opportunity.

for "driving" not mincing about in city centers !! ( and yes I'd like it in orange please)
Stupendous review and cinematography!
It is also the only Carrera Model with the option of speccing the full bucket seats
Porsche as its best. Charging you more to give you less.
Clueless, how fucking laughable. How many high performance cars have you driven?
john m you clearly haven’t owned one then have you. It’s not a rip off when it is the best car out there for the money.
The 911 is an amazingly addictive car that feels like nothing else. They are worth every penny. Many of the special models end up being worth more than their original RRP so clearly they aren’t ripping people off as many people are willing to pay more than Porsche charge.
the weight savings is not impressive
They should try MackFit
Why, because you know how to drive like a pro? LOL
It's not about me bong smoker, it's about advertising it as a stripped down lightweight version of the 911 that costs just as much but offers no real gains.
So that's settled, you won't be buying it anytime soon. That's nice to know.
Mate, are you high?
As usual - fantastic thoughts and feedback from Henry.
*I drive an s2000 daily. It's such a joy to drive I don't need a phone and satnav.*
Excellent as ever, Henry
"A driver's 911"
But it has that dull turbo engine though.

Abdelhameed Alotaibi some people just want that hole in the console to put coins and keys instead lol.
Cayman has a 4cyl engine which sounds like an elephant farting. I'd rather have a used 911, than a new cayman
Harry, how proud of yourself were you when you made this brilliant analogy?!
About the 911 T
“And while the gt2rs is like the mad friend that you go out with once a year for shots on a Friday night and need to wake up on Tuesday, the 911 T should be your best friend, who you don’t have to make an effort for but you do anyway”
Great idea 👍🏼
An accessible 911 is the future I'd like to see. And ditching the radio? Bliss.
Cool vid.
Great review, as usual, Skinny Wolverine! Kudos!
Exactly!
- No rear seats
- No radio
- No sat nav
- No nothing
- smaller wheels
All with the intent of producing a Porsche, true to its intended intent, purpose and heritage, all at an investment price reachable by many more well deserving, appreciative enthusiasts.
Great video, Henry - cheers!
A Porsche on amazing Exmoor roads! Heaven!
I think that car you want might be a Cayman
Great and honest review as usual. Where do you shoot this video ? Stunning landscape.
Pierre Cantet Jaywick, Essex
Lovely video. I want one. Badly. Henry's voice is wonderfully soporific I agree!
They charge 10k more than a base carrera for no stereo?
You're allowed to chose no-stereo for free. Isn't it great?
Henry you are a brilliant presenter. Captivating, descriptive, emotional. Best out there at the moment in my opinion since Harris has slowed his UA-cam work. (Can’t stomach new top gear, makes me cringe)
Brilliant journalism.
The no-nonsense Porsche 911 Carrera T & Henry Catchpole, yup this one is a winner!
YES that’s the 911 to have. IMO!
really nice video!

I love Henry's idea at the end! Porsche should do it
I start to like Henry more! Keep up the good work
How much extra is the no-radio option?
Excellent review.
Henry, my favorite 😃😃😃
Watched this video a few times now , I agree , this is what a 911 should be about 🎉
I love this car! Thank you henry!
Nice watch
I have found so few of these on sale. I think these are being kept for longer amounts of time. I think whoever buys this, buys it to keep it.
Well done, sir! --And yes, it would be so nice to have a reasonably-priced 911, but Porsche probably has figured out that they make the most money selling expensive ones. Here in the U.S. the 2020's are out and one can't even buy a used 2017 for under $75,000 or so.
As eluded by others the last part of the video probably echos most 911 enthusiasts thoughts perfectly. I certainly agree 100% Pretty please Porsche.
Fantastic Car, fantastic video - usual high Henry standard. ;-)
Yes, favourite car channel now that Harris is not as accessible on UA-cam.
Should have had this on the 991.1. What's the point of lessening the sound dampening in the cabin when you end up with turbo engine?
Always brilliant Henry, always brilliant 👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you.

It takes years to develop a car like the 918, This 911T probably took porsche less than 6 months to produce
HAHAHA - Let me guess, you're planning to buy a 918 - keep dreaming.
I have the impression that these 911 "purists" will not like this model ...
Henry makes an excellent point re the no cost options. Porsche should reduce the price if you don’t have them. I’m surprised there is only a 20kg weight reduction, I wonder what the rear seats weigh on their own?

If that really effects the car of your choice, then maybe you should pick one with a little more horsepower and better suspension.
Courage changes everything.
I think Henry would agree that you should better go out and get a 981 GTS manual if you want to have a stellar drivers car :)
Awesome, as always!!!!!!!
Great video! Where are those costal roads?
I agree, I think a “drivers” 911 in the 70-80k (us) range would be amazing, and let more people access the heritage of a real porsche
I've got the Car.
Saw this video 100 times.
Tksss
why not the 6 speed manual but with the correct ratios ????? weird that it has a 7 speed.........
Totally agree. Porsche has done it before with the 964 rs American which was cheaper than the base carrera.
