- I install the Radium Engineering Fuel Filter Kit!
My MK3 Ford Focus RS gets a beautiful looking and functionally important upgrade from Radium Engineering!
The fuel filter is a ver important part of the fuel system in any car and is often overlooked, one reason for that being that there is a degree of ambiguity when it comes to when or even if the filter should be replaced. Some say that it should be done after 20K to 30K miles, others (including some Ford dealers) say that they never replace them because it doesn't appear on their service sheet print outs.
All I know is that the OEM fuel filter in my MK3 Ford Focus RS has been in place for years and I feel like it could benefit from being changed, at least to freshen it up, so this meant that I had two choices - replace it like for like with a new OEM Ford Motorcraft fuel filter or upgrade it to the Radium Engineering option - I chose the upgrade!
The upgrade from Radium comes with more benefits for the Focus RS than simple freshness and good looks - potential performance gains!
Radium explain that their fuel filter setup is less restrictive which means less fuel temperature which means higher flow - sounds good to me! Although it is unlikely to be felt without further fuel system mods but it is good to have such a mod in place to support future upgrades!
The Radium Engineering fuel filter setup also has a removable filter element and Radium offers multiple different element options which you choose one of when purchasing initially. For the MK3 Ford Focus RS, the options are 6 micron Microglass or 10 micron stainless steel filter elements.
The 6 micron has a slightly improved flow efficiency so if you are trying to squeeze every last drop of performance then this is the one to go for. I went for the 10 micron stainless because the performance is still improved but it has the benefit of being a serviceable item which the Microglass element is not - it has to be removed and replaced at each service interval.
I show the full installation process in as much detail as I could and the end results are excellent - job done without much hassle, the install process is reasonably simple apart from the re-installation of one nut but you will see what I mean in the vid!
If you are going to attempt this mod install, I would recommend you have plenty of rags available as there will be inevitable drips of fuel when the connections are disconnected and also wear eye protection to stop those drips of fuel getting to your eyes - fuel plus eyes is a bad combo!
Radium say about Fuel the Filter Kit, Focus RS, Stainless, 10 Micron:
This kit is designed for the 2016+ Ford Focus RS and is not compatible with the Focus ST. It is designed to replace the OEM fuel filter which is plumbed between the electric and mechanical fuel pump.
Because the Radium filter is less restrictive than the OEM Ford filter, there is less stress put on the fuel pump (3-5.5psi less). Lower pre filter pressures will permit less current draw and thus less fuel temperature. Furthermore, this phenomenon permits an increase in fuel flow. The red marks below represent one aftermarket pump and the purple marks denote 2 aftermarket pumps. Note that there is a 2% and 4.5% flow increase, respectively.
Depending on the element chosen, the filter can withstand alternate fuels such as methanol, ethanol, E85, etc.

It might be possible, yea. You would have to make sure that you get it positioned nicely under the car which is always a more awkward space to to work but yea I think it is a good idea, cheers
Brilliant video Adam! Cool little upgrade, i think i want to try this on my st at some point this year.
I don’t think it works with ST, RS has a different fuel rail/feed set up. ST fuel filter is un serviceable inside of the fuel tank.
