Marillion - Script For A Jester's Tear
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 тра 2007
- From Recital Of The Script, the song which has allowed Marillion to skyrocket among the progressive bands back in the 80's. A Personal Favorite, which is greatly interpreted by Fish.
April 2024 is anybody else listening to this masterpiece ?
ich hör mir dat schon an!!!
Here is another one. And sometimes I wonder if I'm the only one who gets tears in his eyes when listening to it.
Yes! Love Marrilion!
Yes since I was young
Eu tbm estou
Still one of the best and most beautiful of all Marillion's songs. A real work of art. I simply LOVE this music. Marillion is top-quality rock!
Vollste Zustimmung!!!
there is a reason 3.4 million people have viewed this it is truly a piece of musical artistry musical performance and song writing
Просто это наша молодость и наша музыка...классика жанра.
2021 and this music is still absolutely magical. It never gets old.
Absolute genius ......... doubt it will ever be bettered
@@TheWallerbyboxer With music now? No way. Marillion is the only band that can make music this good.
Totally agree , i still listen to the live album ‘ the thieving magpie ‘ all the time
never... always returning to this. Never know if music goes trough heart or heart leads to music
Genius!l
Will Fish ever realize how deep these songs are engraved in our hearts? How we love every second of this music and every single word pronounced? How we used to fall asleep listening to his songs and play them again as soon as we woke up? The best years ever, the best songs ever. I'm 34 now and I can tell you: the present years are nothing compared to those 20 years ago. Thank you, Fish!
45 now mate! But I agree. This is other-worldly great.
I am 53, I feel the same way, these songs will be forever in my heart, I once loved you Fish!
agree with everything! 39 yo . Poland.
Marillion was a big cult in Poland, nowadays is pop everywhere, funny to the point of disgusting
I'm 55 and still love it
I'm proud to have grown up with such bands and i feel sorry for the young people who only listen to ephemeral music. I'll be 60 and I'll be 20 again with this music. thanks for that!!!
I'm agre with you my Friend ! Marillion is thek BEST "absolutly progresive Rock!
Marillion siempre me ah facinado y veces tengo que escucharlo pero
es tan complejo y lleno de armonía que no logro escucharlo.
Pero siempre eh considerado que es una banda de culto . Esto es arte
Fish's poetic, unique delivery about his breakup with then-girlfriend Kay is a such a deep, touching piece of brutally honest male self-pity that every guy can relate to in their hearts. Fish genuinely wore his heart on his sleeve and that's why his lyrics and delivery touch so deep.
Both Marillion and Fish were never quite the same after he left.
they are just as good if not better but i think we get emotionally attached to someones voice to its hard to accept when it changes.
Scotland's greatest gifts to the world, Whisky ... and Fish!
fish real fish and vodka.plus gin
Totally agree with you though would add Alex Harvey, Dan McCafferty, Zal Cleminson, Stuart Adamson and of course John Wark.
Scotland's greatest gifts to the world, SCOTLAND
Ma sono inglesi non scozzesi
Hey, hey, hey, where do haggis, deep fried Mars bars and this week's rugby win over England enter the playground, then?
The emotion in his face holy shit
Fish is forever the face and soul of Marillion...
This song will always be as one of the best prog rock songs ever composed. Lyrics , composition are exceptional. Unique song that touches everybody's heart and soul.
That album completely changed my life back in 84.
me too and seeing them play the apollo in glasgow
This is not just a song it's theatre, like an act or a scene in a play .. theatre for everyone not just the 'elite'... yes! so good!
Like Gabriel before him, and the ultimate emotional theatre performer Meat
Verdade amigo, conheci essa banda há 27 anos atrás
For me Fish was Marillion. Listening to this I'm 14 again.
Paul Brockwell
I love this song...
Means a lot to me this song... as it did Fish. Superb.
youre right. fish is marillion, marillion is fish
Paul Brockwell pienso igual que usted...
No Fish no Marillion, simple as...
2020. And still here I am, in the playground of the broken hearts
I am dying when i am listing to this song . I am from Poland. I am 1974..............
I have all the Marillion's albums in vinil, but only with Fish, Marrilion without Fish or Fish without Marillion are like a ocean without fishes. Salutes from Brazil 🇧🇷
🥂
RICHTIG SO MARILLION OHNE FISH WAR DANACH NICHT DAS GLEICHE FISH WAR EIN EINZIGARTIGER PERFORMER UND SÄNGER.SEINE THEATRALISCHEN AUFTRITTE UNERREICHT.SUPER 80ER SOUND😊😊
Thank you Fish
this will never get old. still here and listening :)
My soul is full of emotions......what a song!!!!
Masterpiece xxx
Amazing how Peter Gabriel influenced all progressive rock. Fish and his makeup reminds me of the Genesis of the 70s. Amazing live performance of a progressive rock masterpiece
And he hated being compared to Peter Gabriel
@@carolinagalaz551 Fish was as much as sincere as Gabriel was pretentious ...
@@francesco5581 what did you say about me
Peter Gabriel as Brittannia person. Amazing.
Regards from Rio de Janeiro. Brazil
There's no denying the influence but Fish was always singing from the heart. Gabriel was singing from the mind. I know which I prefer.
Thanks dad, i'll miss you, this is the biggest treasure for me, all your music.
Es kostet mich unheimlich viel Kraft das zu hören und zu sehen.
I’m 51, mainly a heavy metal fan and I’ve just got into this album. Can’t stop listening to it in the van-loud. Prog brilliance
I still sing this Album from beginning to end whilst driving, next year is Fish's Farewell tour apparently and I shall be there. Simply Love ❤ Marillion when 🐟 was their vocalist......Music of a certain calibre stays with you a lifetime, this will be something I will value until I cease to be.... Wonderful
On a scale to ten I just have to give this song a solid 13... it's one of the best songs ever recorded according to me...
Marillion for me ended when Fish left, they were just insanely incredible during this era., im 100% OLD line up, the BEST and still even now can't be touched.
👍👍👍
Yes. Seasons End was ok, but it wasn't the same after that.
I completely agree!
🌌👽👍🧠
True story, bud...
Totally agree
Dude destroys two guitar solos in 2 minutes and has close to no spotlight. Big time respect man
Absolutely brilliant, i saw Marillion on every tour. Even walking 10 miles to see them. This song always brings a tear to my eyes. Without Fish and Marillion there would be no Dream Theatre. Love and respect to this incredible band.
🤘🎼1986 in Offenbach /Germany!!!! With the Opel Ascona Car from my parents!!!
Same concert here , but different car
Trying to get Marillion on several vocal analysis channels here. So far no luck.
Come on you all. This album and this live performance are legendary.
The lyrics, the music, Fish. Epic songs that really have meaning. True musicians.
I didn't get turned on to Marillion until 2000. I was browsing and saw the artwork on cover to "The Thieving Magpie" and thought that they looked like a cool band and was curious. It didn't take long for me to get hooked. I love how this band is so talented to constantly be changing up their rhythms and melodies without missing a beat. They are not afraid to use unconventional beat numbers in their measures such as transitioning from 3 beats, to 4 beats and often using 5's and 7's which take an amazing amount of talent. The only other band that is talented enough to do that is the band Rush.
Steve Rothery is one of the best guitarists I have ever listened to. His greatest strength is his ability to absolutely mesmerize an audience with his guitar solos. I would rank him right up there with Alex Lifeson from Rush. Mark Kelly is amazing on the keyboard and with his help, Marillion is probably the most melodic band ever that ever lived. The bass and the drums are so on point that they are practically dancing with each other.
Last but not least is Fish. He is probably the most unique singer out there. If you judged him on singing ability alone, tone, range, control, stability, etc..., Simon Cowell would probably run him off the stage telling him he's awful.
Now before you start throwing stones wait, and you will see where I'm going with this. Because there is something else that Fish brings to the table which is far "greater" than his singing alone. It is his energy and passion and masterful lyrics. He is an incredible lyricist. His lyrics are so filled with such a poetic style and imagery that he could put some of the greatest poets to shame. Fish's singing is theatrical and full of emotion and passion. When he sings he pours his very soul out the the audience with each syllable and every note. He carries such charisma and passion, that even if he misses a key, he still connects with the audience.
Now if I had to compare singing ability alone, Hogarth is a far better singer than Fish. However with all the other aforementioned things that Fish brings to the table, I believe that songs such as "Script for a Jesters Tear", can only be done by Fish! It wouldn't be the same with any other singer.
In my humble opinion, the magic that Marillion created when the lights of the great progressive rock bands went out, back in the 80s, ended without Fish.
Wow, poetry made music! I recall my mom hated my all out loud music until I played this record: I still see my mom opening her door door asking: Who's playing?
2023 and there is no better song still
The compilation of lyrics ,composition and interpretation are unique.
Makes my hair on my body still stand up after all years .xxx
Me too,Greetings from Vienna Austria
March 31, 2020... What happened?
I first heard Marillion in the summer of 1986. A young girl introduced them to me.
That young girl is long gone.
That me is long gone.
What happened?
It becomes so painfully obvious that it was life that happened, when you watch the Fish updates on Weltschmerz.
Here he was a young man with a painted face.
Now an old wise man living for his tomato plants.
Just like me.
Was that at Pilton Festival?
No Diggity No, it was in my living room in my very first flat... I only saw them live once. In Gothenburg 1989 I think 🤔
Fish is genuinely an amazing singer. I'd say his the best singer that has ever lived. There's that certain type of melancholy and beauty in his voice. Just so... Incredible.
Peter gabriel was doing this back in seventies with genesis now he is the best singer I have heard
@@andrewjones4098 I never got into Gabriel Genesis but his solo work was better IMO.
@@Thirdfish Yes, same here. I originally thought Fish was Marillion's first singer, only found out later about the Peter Gabriel era. But I prefer the Fish era.
@@stephenmcinerney9457 Peter Gabriel was original singer of Genesis not Marillion.
You're nuts.
Marillion is by far the most amazing band I have ever heard. The intensity of their music truly portrays the reality of life that is lived with passion in every way. Every song reaches right for my heart & reminds me that life is love. And love is why we live.
"Can you still say you love me?
Can you still say you love?
Can you still say,
That you love me?
Do you love me?
Do you love me?
Do you LOVE me?
Do you love me?
Do you LOVE me?
A Jester's Tears"
Thank you for making life more beautiful & complete.
I LIKE ALL MUSIC,AND LYRICS OF MARILLION !♡♡♡☆☆☆☆☆For Ever i think! ♡bye !

Happy 40 Birthdays Dear Marillion 🎶🎶
This is a masterpiece , FISH there is only one. God bless u Dad for showing me these real piece of pure art .
Se arrancó el corazón y se lo dió, el hijo er pinsho!! Bravo!!!
This is utterly insane. Sooooooo good.
Fish and Steve Rothery working together during all tunes makes this band one of the best ever!
I tu masz rację chłopie wymiatają
i bought the DVD of this gig for my dad for Christmas just got around to watching, turns out he was there, i'm so jealous i love marillion and i'm only 16.
That voice - shivers up the spine, even hearing the cracks coming in. His stage presence, the audience in his palm even before they all knew the lyrics. Man with a mullet and no costume and you cant take your eyes off him. Magnificent magnetic FISH.
I was given my first ever stage pass to photo a major band at this gig. Having thumbed a lift to London from South Wales, it was during a period I spent out of work and was developing my own film and printing . Memories I had to sell a few of my hand printed photos outside gigs just to get say a T shirt. Fish saw to it I got a stage pass and had some of the backstage r food and beer. I won 3rd prize in the 1983 National Eisteddfod with the resulting photos from that night. Thanks Fish & band
This songs makes me relive (as a female version) the time when the love of my life left me... It's been 13 years already, the one and only man I really loved.
Fish becomes what he sings. And he is so underrated as a poet. He's magnificent.
I love your name and picture
@@theunknowncommenter3444 Thank you very much
hes not underrated! marillion is one of the best prog-band ever btw was and is

Fish, you great artist! You are the best! You were only 25 years here....so good.
I just started getting into Marillion during these shitty times. Put on this album and went for a walk during a rainy autumn evening ... there are no words to descrice that experience.
I was getting into Marillion around July-August 2020 when shit wasso...dull and wow the memorable moments.
I wish I knew about this band sooner!
Hope you're doing allright.
I have always loved this song. It's a masterpiece. Marillion is definitely one of my all time favorite bands. I wish Fish was still with them. He is a brilliant lyricist and singer.
John, I'm talking to you from the future 😱 far out!!👋 ⏳️
Brings me back to my teen years immediately.
Feels like he is just living the song and the song living in him. Just amazing.
He must have really loved her, whoever she was
Im 21 and ive just discovered this band, this song is EPIC!!!!
bro you are 33 now

So here I am once more

Hi from 2020 and lockdown in the months of the pestilence.
Roger O'Donnell it sucks...🥵
2020 and still in the playground of the broken hearts 💔💔💔
I never realised how brilliant Fish was until recently, what an utterly fantastic charismatic frontman he is. Steve Hogarth has done a wonderful job to fill such vast boots,I've seen them 4 times with "H" at the helm and he never fails to deliver.
I never get tired of listening to it for 32 years
all live no playback THAT´S Art .. delivering a message, emotion and heartpiece. That´s what´s ment to be Artist... He opens fully and gives it all. No trix, no cheats.. all them.. and him.
Fish sings with so much passion . Never gets old.
I’ve said it before, these men were and are just as influential as Genesis was/is especially in the time they first came to the public eye. They definitely took a lot from the “old” Genesis format but put their own mark on it. A fekkin great band and I’m proud to say so!!
A great band, but a decade after Genesis.
Fish was the man, such emotive commitment, such focus.
One of the greatest songs ever! I keep coming back to Marillion time and time again, and the music is so fabulous it makes me wanna cry every single time! Still perfect!
Listened to this when I returned home from the falklands! Great band,Cheers Fish and Marillion, you guys got me through.
He was and still is a great bard ( troubadoeur ) of ancient times . Frm childhoods end till last album Weltchmerts and everyalbum in between
Yes I'm listening. Great band. The fish era was the best
Brilliant music and brilliant lyrics. Good old Marillion.
Old Marillion - yes.
Good old Fish
Впервые услышал эту группу в 80е. До сих пор балдею… Фиш это нечто!!!!
I saw them in Paris after Brussels.
One of the organizers I met in Brussels let me go backstage in Paris at the end of the concert where I ran straight in to Fish .. he gave me three kisses. Magical moment. Never to forget.
Marillion is Fish.. fish is marillion ..never the same again.
Amazing music.
Super. Nie potrafię się wyrazić. Piękne. Wysyłam dla wszystkim na
Everything about this song is so emotional, evocative and theatrical. Fish is a poet of the highest order. Marillion without Fish is simply not the same.
Another amazing musical poet (although nowhere as intense) is Morrissey - I am curious to know if they ever crossed paths??
Like fish without chips, not the same
Marillion without Fish simply isn't.
Imagine hearing this live
... OMG
A REAL OPERA ROCK.......BEAUTIFUL!
Marillion is one of the greatest bands ever. Theatrical voice of Fish, soaring guitar of Steve Rothery and atmospheric keyboards of Mark Kelly - so tasteful mix
The best interpretation of a song ever in the entire history of music
i borrowed a Vinyl from my Friend back in the 80' and listened to this over and over again thinking about my Love when i was 18 or so. Now am 48 with a 2 and half years old kid and it still is the best shit !
I saw this wonderful band with my son at the Brixton Academy in the mid eighties a truly wonderful night my son later died of cancer this bring back a wonderful memory
I'm losing on the swings..I'm losing on the roundabouts...how can I remember all the lyrics to this in 2021...great album..great track...if you first encountered this when it came out...great band..and Fish was Marilillion...and Steve was and is the most underrated guitar man ever...
It really is hard to believe this is live but that's what ya got when you got Fish and Marillion!
Name one song which had made you cry for the almost last 40 years every time you listend to it...
Lovely to watch such a passionate man. He’s gorgeous 🌟
Just simply Amazing!!! I am glad in 1984 I got a chance to see my two favorite bands (Marillion & Yes) in Toronto.
This lyrics are so deep, I cry everytime...
He looks like a true actor singing, entering into his character...
There is no marillion without Fish. Fish, why don't come back ? We miss you. Please come back.
This is it, gonna build a time machine once and for all !!!
In 2019, from 2007, only 2.4 mln?
When I was teenager, these lyrics were one of the best in the whole world of music.
And they still are, while I'm almost half century.
Can you imagine almost 40 years ago , my father bought a cd -playe and the first cd I played was Marillion : what a noise explosion of pure music and clean basses - what an experience
Absolutle wonderfull song .. Scotish Pearl ... forever, great's from Poland ❤
One of the best songs that ever was and ever will be
The band, the poetic angst, the performance, sublime. Thank you so much Marillion. 🙏
Fish, l'unico cantante che cantava meglio dal vivo che in studio. Impressionante!
Just amazing. It brings me back to the times that internet does not exist :-)
