Fantastic video about a fabulous game. MoH Underground is probably my favorite console game of all time. Still play through it about once a year. I bought the soundtrack too. One thing you didn't mention is there is definitely a Raiders of the lost ark vibe about it.
Thanks, I’m glad you enjoyed it! Yeah there’s definitely some Indiana Jones influence. I’d probably say it’s closer to The Last Crusade. Pretty much the entire middle of the game goes to places similar geographically to what happened in TLC.
Love the review. I also love the game, and I was trully suprised of how well it stood the test of time. My favourite ww2 fps and overall great game. One thing I would add to your review was amazing soundtrack that this game had. Again probably my favourite in the series.
Thanks man! Yeah it’s a classic. I was originally going to talk about the music, but the video kept getting longer and longer so I skipped that part. If I ever redo this video I’ll add that part in.
I'm sure you are aware of it, but in case you aren't: the 10th anniversary edition which includes moh aa and it's expansions does come with a soundtrack CD and I think the whole, or the lions share, of musical compositions used in the PS1 games is represented there. I never "checked" if the song versions are the same due to missing time to play all of these great games again...Now someone will have done ripped the sounds of these Ps1 discs and we should compare them hahaha
Back when the EA logo meant quality. :D These games made me interested in history, along with Age of Empires II. Over 20 years later I'm a history teacher and use games with the kids to break the ice and teach them a bit of what was before.
That’s awesome! It’s weird to say but yeah, WWII games really increased my love of history for not just the that conflict but pretty much all of it. It’s sort of a shame that so many WWII games have shifted away from historical battles in favor of making the games as arcadey as possible to sell DLC and skins, but pre-2009 many WWII games were a great gateway to becoming history buffs. Props for finding ways to engage the kids. Making kids care about school is hard sadly.
@@geoechidna Sorry fot the late reply. Looks like I didn't got a notification that you answerd and gave a heart to my comment. I'm back to watch this video again, because I still adore this and MoH 1 to this day. AoEII made me interested in history all together, but these games sparked my interest in the world wars because we still can feel it's consequences today. For example, the reparation payments from WWI were payed of in 2011, so even I and many others who were born decades after the war payed for it's outcome. And thank you. Mostly the boys or young men in school find it sort of cool that I also play games. Luckily BFV had a website were you could track your playtime K/D etc. so I could back that I play, and that I'm quite good for beeing a pre 4k 360 no scope boomer. Verdun for example is about 120 miles from here, I would like to make trips with the later classes to show them what war could look like. Like games or film "Show don't tell" might be a even better teacher as I ever could be.
Ah, I have such fond memories of this game. My father would play Deltron's _3030_ album nonstop, so that music is just as burned into my synapses as Giacchino's neo-Romantic style score. Thinking about the timeline of events, MoH:U is probably among the first ten games I've ever played, or at least remember playing. I've probably played more before it, but I was so young that I don't remember. Though I can't agree that MoH:U is the best 5th gen console shooter. As far as I'm concerned, GoldenEye's follow-up, _Perfect Dark_ did it about as well as you _can_ do it. Its only problem is the atrocious slow-down. If you ported all three games to modern systems to enhance the graphics to eliminate the issues wrought by 5th gen limitations while keeping everything else the same (i.e. what they did for _Perfect Dark_ on XBLA), I'd say _Perfect Dark_ would still stand superior, and _Medal of Honor: Underground_ would easily squeeze out _GoldenEye_ in everything except multiplayer.
Yeah I tried playing Perfect Dark on the N64 and its framerate was so bad, even in widescreen mode, that I could bring myself to finish the second level. I also wasn't a fan of the arbitrary and confusing objectives of either GE or PD. Still need to play the 360/XB1 version. I'd still put MoHU and PowerSlave for the Saturn as my top 2 FPSs of the 5th gen, but it's all opinion anyways. Perfect Dark's music fucking slaps to this day, though. :D
Oh yeah, I like Underground's music better than most MOVIES, nevermind games. It's no wonder EA re-used its soundtrack for almost all MoH games that came out after Frontline.
@@geoechidna that's one of the things that really annoys me in Airborne - original soundtrack for this game is fantastic, but they decided to reuse tracks from older games even though they have different atmposphere. At least we have hours of excellent music to listen :)
Yeah the old soundtracks didn't really fit but they still sounded good. Hopefully the new VR MoH will have an original soundtrack, because I believe Michael Giacchino is coming back.
For years i was searching informations about these 3 mysterious bonus mission... And you finally gave me some ! Since I was little I would like to solve the mystery about this famous castle and the panzerknacker! If anyone knows something more on the subject, please contact me! By the way, great video!
Sad I never beat it as a kid, had it on PSP where the controls were super hampered. Going back to it recently I have a newfound appreciation for it and even prefer it over the first game. Has that sense of fun and immersion that doesn't feel allowd in AAA games today
Yeah, modern games don’t really trust you to do anything alone for more than about 5 minutes. This game is pretty straightforward and the game developers get out of your way and just allow you to enjoy the experience at your own pace. The atmosphere and music are still amazing too.
I adore the MoH franchise, bought the first PlayStation's and upgraded computer twice for the sake of playing MoH. I kinda blame CoD (not that it was bad, but I prefered MoH) for causing WW2 shooters to outstay their welcome.
Oh without question. I played this game in 2009 and immediately made the connection lol. It’s pretty cool that it’s single player. Makes for a tighter experience.
Great video. I adore these first two MOH games and still listen to the amazing Michael Giacchino scores to this day.
These scores are fire
If only games were made like this but just a bit more realism. It would be so much fun.

Just bought this again to relive the glory days. Great gameplay and like the 1st one, a cracking soundtrack to give a truly atmospheric feel.
It’s still a great game. One of the better-aged PS1 games.

Excellent episode! This game is fantastic
Thanks, glad you liked it!
the knight enemies scarred me for life
clank clank clank
The sidecar shootout is my favorite moment in underground; great video
Thanks, it took forever to make so I'm glad it was appreciated!
You deserve more subscribers
Thanks, here's hoping someday!
that intro music, and I'm already sold, baby. Now to watch the rest of the video itself :P
Channeling that Unreal 98 energy, we don't deserve Alexander Brandon's music
I still play this game and the first one to this day in 2024! Very fun games to play!

I agree about Goldeneye. I've held this opinion for years, and I thought I was the only one.
The dogs in the catacombs scared the shit out of me.
I love this game sooo much. Soundtrack is probably the best thing Giacchino has ever done. This music alone deserves it's own video :)

Glad you enjoyed it!
100% agree bud. And sweet vid. Thanks bro.
Thanks man, glad you liked it!
That first part was really ahead for its time.
Definitely, I’m sure a lot of gamers did a double take when they saw that, probably for the first time ever in a game. 😂
I completed both of these games this year
They still hold up pretty well, all things considered.
Still a favourite
One of my favorites too. Great old-school FPS.
ngl would love a MOHU remake with Gal Gadot as Manon
Hilariously, those Nazis in suits of armor actually existed

great retrospective/review did you capture the footage from an emulator?, ps3 version?, or og ps1
PS3 version. And thanks!
Fantastic video ! Are you planning a MOH: Frontline retrospective ?
I’m definitely thinking about it, but it won’t be anytime in the near future. Maybe about 6 months out.
If I decide to do it I’ll let you know though.
@@geoechidna Ah, thanks ! Oh, and speaking of Frontline, what happened to your Hard walkthrough ? I can only watch the 2nd out of 6 missions.

I heavily argue that "Panzerknacker" is the birth of what became Nazi Zombies in later CoD games. What do you think?

👌👌👌
