I've got this as my "everyday, everywhere" guitar and it's easily the best sounding, most convenient for that particular role where you're okay with beating it up a little, SO comfortable and light. The only fully solid one in the price range too, fantastic as always from Yamaha.
I listen to a lot of guitar demos and for what it is, this is definitely a favorite!

Thank you BMB, a remarkably concise and clear review which has confirmed this is the guitar I shall go for as a second to my Martin 000M, sounds the perfect travel / parlour guitar and a refreshing alternative to the Sheeran little Martin craze.
I really enjoyed this review and I really want this guitar. I play electric mostly and having a smaller acoustic to work on finger style and acoustic arrangements on would be phenomenal, but this also would work great plugged in on stage too if needed... So tempting

I accidentally walked into a music store a few weeks ago, it was raining outside and left my umbrella in a car. So I thought "I'll wait in here for a bit". Workers in music store were on some kind of lunch brake, so they let try any guitar I want.
First that draw my attention was this small Yamaha. When I started playing, it just blown me away. Then I started picking other guitars (mostly Yamahas, Fenders, Taylor and Ibanez) and with price a bit over that CSF. But not one could compare to the sound and playability.
Few days later when I called to the store to check which Yamaha did I play, it turned out it was CSF1M - a bit cheaper model. After a few minutes of thinking I ordered CSF3M.
Now, I use a lower tuning (D tuning) and with Elixir strings that were on guitar it was a problem. I had a lot of buzzing. So I switched to D'Addario strings. Also .12 gauge but a bit thicker. Buzz was gone, but also a tone changed - a lot! Not to the worst, but it is a pretty noticeable change.
Same day I played a gig, almost 3 hours, but the tone and tuning just stayed. And I played really hard.
In conclusion: not saying anything - just sharing my experience and first impressions based on a few days owning it ...

Bought this guitar yesterday! I was going in looking for a hollow body, left with this! I was looking for something that looked ornate and sounded good, but I have a habit of picking up things I don’t plan on buying and playing them anyways
And boy was I shocked! I genuinely had no clue this thing existed. It’s so good... how is it so good?

Good review mate, and a lovely little guitar. I have the GS Mini and a Guild Jumbo Junior, this little parlour guitar would be a nice addition.

@@derrekevans2324 Yeah. I just ordered a GS mini-e Koa yesterday. I have a Yamaha CG171SF flamenco guitar and it is great. Other musicians have remarked that it plays really well like a much more expensive instrument. So I believe in the affordable craftmanship of Yamahas which was why I was considering this model as well. Unfortunately never got to play it or hear a comparison to the GS mini.
I am looking for a parlor sized guitar but with a chunky neck suitable for big hands, like really big hands. I had to get rid of a little Martin because my hands were way too cramped to play. I love the looks and sounds of this guitar but not much said about the neck profile.
Have you found the model that you want? I’m looking for parlor sized as well because drednought too big for me.
@@romeites6398 yes, I didn't go with this one. I ended up buying the PRS P20. It is exactly what I was looking for. A small body guitar with a nice chunky neck.

Very good review of a reasonably priced quality guitar. Like the idea of a shorter scale fingerboard. Being made of solid woods it's hard to go wrong! The binding is actually mahogany, not maple. It's just not stained dark. ✌😉

CSF-TA - TransAcoustic Guitar
I own this guitar it is the best parlor guitar I've played. It's better than the Taylor GS Mini and the Alvarez MPA66SHB (solid wood parlor which is good). If you can find a used CSF3M for around $400, it is worth it. I got mine for $300, which I never expect to see again.
Thanks for your insights. I had sort of zeroed in on the exact same Alvarez model you mention, but then this little Yamaha came onto my radar a few days ago and I’m pretty much sold. I’m definitely going to keep an eye out for a good deal like you did. No rush.😉👍
Lovely review, thanks, these guitars sound great (although the passive pick-up not so good!). Just wondering, what's the catchy little blues tune at the start of the video, I recognise it but can't place it.
The intro music is a little piece I made up in drop D... it's on all the videos so you might recognise it from there? Or I've subconsciously borrowed it from somewhere! Ben

@@benmorganbrown I've just clicked what the tune is that it reminds me of - Green, Green Rocky Road by Dave Van Ronk. Not that similar as tunes but both have that bouncy melody line going on.

I asked myself the same question at the music shop, trying out both. Was expecting a sound quality edge from the solid tonewood Yamaha instrument, but couldn't separate them. They're both sweet sounding and very resonant to my ear. The substantial price difference in favour of the Yamaha settled it for me. Now an owner for some months I can't fault the build quality of the Chinese-made instrument. I decided the action was a little too high so worked on the bridge to reduce it, and am happier now with playability. The semi-soft gig bag is very well designed and functional too. The shoulder straps make it easy to travel with.

How does this guitar compare to gs mini? Does the solid wood back and sides make it a better sounding guitar over time?
I played a koa gs mini and the csf1 within minutes of each other in a GC acoustic room. The sound was similar,but at half the price, and both with layered sides and back, playability equal, it was a no brainer.
The Koa did have the looks,but I opted for the sound and cost.
The solid mahogany csf3 back and sides sound, I read, are not much different than the layered
Csf1. Time could be a factor?
What’s the difference between the csf1 and the csf3?
The CSF1 is laminated back and sides, whereas the CSF3 is solid
$150 Dollars US...399 vs 549.
Acoustic Review may I ask what the pros and cons are of laminate vs solid?
