FierceONeill Maybe you’re not aware of the feeling because you’ve never had to question your gender. Those feelings you listed are for all genders. Yes, being masculine or dressing like the stereotypical male doesn’t necessary make you a boy, but trans people just know that they are that gender and if you’re cisgender, then you wouldn’t know how that feels and it’s not right to invalidate someone just because you haven’t experienced what they have.

How does one simply feel being the opposite gender if that's not what they are physically? Allow me to use a quite basic example.
Imagine yourself as a young boy. You have at least this much indentity. You know that's what you are. A boy.
So you go in your life, carelessly, eating paste, playing with your friends, and doing whatever it is little kids do.
But one day your parents make you wear a dress. Now it's a pretty one. Soft-colored, delicate as a petal, with pretty little patterns all over it. But it's a girls dress.
Your problem isn't with the dress itself, it's what it represents.
You protest, you get angry, maybe even cry, but still you have to wear the dress. After all you shouldn't really argue with your parents at that age.
You go out and you're afraid that people will laugh. Or point fingers. But suprisingly nobody does. And somehow that's the worst thing. Nobody laughs, points fingers nobody thinks it's strange. What they do is they expect you to want this. To associate with this. They get mad or give you a weird look if you don't. They nicely say "Aww, you're growing into a little lady!" and it's somehow even more insulting than mockery. A boy would get laughed at if he wore this. And you know you're a boy. So why do they treat you like a girl?
Things don't stop there. Soon more and more people follow the pattern. They force "girl appropriate" things and behaviors upon you, they refer to you as "she", try to make you believe that's what you are. Your parents sign you up for your schools girls volleyball team. You get comments that you shouldn't even be getting, considering who you believe you are. It feels like someones playing a really mean prank on you, but if you call it out nobody will laugh. They'll just look weirdly and take you for a freak.
You slowly stop trusting yourself to be a boy.. but at the same time the feeling that you are one grows stronger and stronger. You get so anxious and uneasy with how your body looks, with how your close ones treat you with how you seem to be the only one with that problem.
But you were always a boy, right?
Or so you were sure of until you started maturing.
The body that you always trusted, or rather hoped to be male starts developping feminine parts. Your menstrual cycle starts. Your hips get wider, your chest gets bigger.
No. No, no, no, how can this be? This is all wrong! Your own body is betraying you! How can you be a boy if that's not who you were born as? But for Gods sake you can swear that you feel like one. That's how you've always felt.
      It's all wrong. It's terrifying. It's depressing.
      And that's what it's like

@Vipxr biology and science back up transsexuality, women and male brains do not look the same, and when doctors and scientist have taken a look at for example trans womens brain they see that her brain is a womans brain and not a male brain.

The whole men as hunters and women as gatherers. Yes women can be strong, but if you had a man and a woman with similar built / stature most likely the man will be stronger. This is just genetics, it doesn't mean women are incapable of doing things just as well, it's just a strength difference due to muscle. I get frustrated when it becomes this competitive, one-upper thing.

They just want women to be held to the same physical standards as men for the same jobs.

I also think it's a point that what toy kids choose is more based on what they are told is okay to play with. I'm a female and played with "boy toys." Not because I'm trans or anything. Even if men are stronger I dont think that has ANY connection to what toys you play with or how you want to dress.

  • @MsAnni97
    @MsAnni97 6 років тому +4785

Okay so I don't care what anyone identifies as. that's totally their choice and I resepct that. But I don't like the fact that simple biological facts are being ignored. Men gernerally are stronger and more muscular because they produce more testosterone than women. So saying that men are stronger than women isn't sexist or discriminating, but actually a fact. That's also why men were hunters back then instead of women.
That's why I think the boy at 3:07 is on the right path and has a very intelligent way of thinking about this. Props to him.

I think the key is not to exclude women who are also strong. +Jonathan LeBlanc-Technically, yes. And. . .no. Men do develop more muscle mass than women do, so they are superficially more stronger as a result. Immediate physical strength was probably more important with our early ancestors, who assigned roles for the here and now. They weren't necessarily thinking long term, every role that was assigned was meant to ensure immediate survival.
So they missed out that strength can't quite be measured that way just on raw physical dominance. Some people may be fast/more agile than others, and agility allows you to wear out your enemy a lot faster and you can avoid being attacked. Some people are better at defensive, where you keep to defending until your enemy tires out. People still divide boys and girls into separate groups in sports because they believe pitting girls against boys physically is an unfair advantage for the boys. In sports like football and wrestling, I can see why. In certain ways.
However, in sports like basketball or baseball, you need just as much agility, endurance, and defensive as you do with being able to take the shot. Baseball is not a competition of physical strength necessarily, it's about being able to swing the bat and run as fast you can to the finish line.
So it's just not really that modern to keep certain sports and physical gender attributes in tact like that. It would be way more interesting to see sports be more co-ed and see it as a true competition. Basketball certainly. To see it as a true test of different skills and who is able to use their skills the best.

O dear, are you comparing mankind in prehistoric age to your experience of a comfortable society where you take hunting as a game?
On average people with an XY chromosome with high level of testosterone present more muscles that makes it easy to do things where strength is required, such as hunting. No one ever say that women should not hunt, but back in a time when people was literally dying during hunting processes you needed to have to be sure to bring with you the right people which usually mean take with you people with the highest level of physical strength which typically was not women. There was no active discrimination about it it was pure and simple survival thinking and optimization of resources because people was literally dying and not hunting for fun.

3:28 Think about the evolutionary landscape for humans. Obviously men are larger and stronger, but modern science also tells us men, ON AVERAGE, have more fast twitch muscle fibers and have higher levels of hemoglobin in their blood. Men can run faster, jump farther, carry more, shoot and throw farther, etcetera. Average differences have large effects at the extremes-- this means all the best hunters would be effectively guaranteed to be men, because of their physical advantages; women could theoretically hunt for certain periods in their lives, but due to their physical disadvantages in relation to the tasks necessary for hunting, it would be a suboptimal situation. Women, before the birth control pill, menstruated and had unavoidable periods until old age; combine that with the fact of a lack of sanitary bathrooms, no plumbing, no tampons or sanitary napkins, and that makes women's lives much more difficult before modern times. They also had to care for infants, giving them sustenance, which was not optional. At the time, the infant death rate was absurdly high, and that made women's lives much more difficult. A vast amount of time was required staying healthy during pregnancy and giving birth and sustaining the children's lives during early childhood. Hunting was a grueling, arduous, cold, unrelenting, and often necessary task, which involved killing other animals. In fact, I think it's absurd to assume women of the time should have done effectively everything for everyone.

“Is there a reason why the men hunted?”
Yes, because the women were raising children. (I’ll be describing most hunter-gatherer tribes, not all here. There are a few matriarchal tribes in history, too and they’re fascinating!) It was a different time with a different infant survival rate, and if the early hunter-gatherer tribes wanted to survive, they needed to bear children. The theory is that at the beginning, the roles were equal. But as hunting became more important to survival as a day-to-day thing, the men became more “superior” in these tribes. They began to have more of a say in the community, and bearing/raising children became second place to the hunting and home farming that the women would do, particularly when the tribe had begun to deplete resources.
Just an interesting fact. Xandor’s a smart cookie but the way that question and the response to it was framed, it made it seem like there was no reason why the men hunted and the women didn’t.
