      I totally understand for those who afraid of the needle (as I have some friend are) but you won't feel hurt at all but at the same time you still feel the needle go inside your body. having some ant or mosquito bite you have more pain than this.

      Samantha Pratt, acupuncturists have a LOT of training. The possibility of that is very slim.And as I say, the needle is tiny. I never had so much as a bruise. It's also solid-there would be no where for the blood to go even if it were directly in a large vein.

      @Cassxowary 4 роки тому +5

      @@GoProskyla Yeah, just stop listening mid-sentence and take it out of context to go against the rest of what she's said. And there's been documentation on it for over four thousand years. This is a short video to present acupuncture to children, not a in-length scientific documentary on energy, but there's tonnes of these if you want too. And she did say she's a licensed doctor too. Don't be so close-minded. At least watch the whole video and use your heart and brain and educate yourself instead of ignoring whatever doesn't suit your brainwashed limited beliefs.

      From what I understand, acupuncture stimulates blood flow to specific areas to accelerate the body's natural healing processes. And if you're down with the idea of reflexology, and similar concepts that are based on various parts of the body being interrelated, then you could say that requires NRG...

      ItchyKneeSon that's fine as long as it makes you curious. Dismissing what you don't understand as if you know all about it is utterly ignorant and close-minded, it's something that's been a thing since the beginning of time and is one of the basics of science as well as everything else because EVERYTHING is energy, thoughts, actions, solid things, not solid things, EVERYTHING. So it's utterly important. And thankfully, more people are starting to learn about it. As you should.

      There's no proven efficacy. Spiritual metaphysics and people believing in it is all they got.

    • @Kdoubleanoyla
      @Kdoubleanoyla Рік тому

      Its not metaphysicics, its science. Its similar to studying chemistry. Youre learning about atoms, protons, neutrons, all of which you CANNOT see, but you're taught that they're real and present in all things. Energy exists and for some reason humans believe that it does in all things EXCEPT the human body. When you go into cardiac arrest and a defibrilator is used to "jumpstart" the heart - what do you think is happening? Energy is being ZAPPED into the body to restart its battery. I think she did a great job explaining - in laymans terms - hw acupuncture works. BTW - I'm an Acupuncturist :)

    • @Edward-bm7vw

      Edward Please note I that I put the word energy in quotation marks.. I 100% believe in science and the existence of placebo effects. But isn't an impulse energy in some way? Still interesting to read about the changes in the body during acupuncture. Just keeping an open mind.

    • @Edward-bm7vw

      The "energy" they refer to is called Chi. And it hasn't been proven to exist. These are all based on ancient beliefs before science came along and explained these things better.

    edit: I'm saying this as a pharmacy student, we're taught to be very critical of any medical practices/medicines that are not evidence based, sorry but anecdotal evidence has no scientific value. this has been the first video were I was wary of what the kids were learning since they're basically being pressured to agree to the placebo effect. also 1:09 she ain't feeling it ahahah

    • @bcaye
      @bcaye 6 років тому +130

      Amy Ashjari, I was in a fairly serious accident and hurt my neck and hand. After about 6 weeks I went to a chiropractor for my neck after conventional medicine did nothing but give me opioids. He fixed my neck in 3 sessions. I asked him about my hand because it still hurt quite a bit. He recommended acupuncture. After each session the whole hand and forearm tingled and the hair stood straight up. That lasted several hours. After the fourth one, it felt like my hand was being stung by bees. It finally eased up enough I could go to sleep and when I woke up, the pain was gone. Permanently.

      A mind so open that your brains fall out...
      Extreme intellectual rigidity is a problem, sure. But (even more)so is being open to everything. So if they had a holocaust denier on, without anyone correcting their lies, should people "grow up" and just let denial of reality stand? What about a scientologist telling them about how we're possessed by Xeno and should come and see one of their churches (where they will gradually spend all their money, just as they'll do with faith healers, fortune tellers, and acupuncturists)? Would that be open-minded?
      We use our rational faculties to devise objective methods to find out what's true and false. What works and what doesn't. There's nothing to be gained from uncritical exposure to pseudo-science.

    Not really a fan of this episode. When you have to give convoluted explanations to sugarcoat that you're not a physician and then still speak as a "medical professional" plainly is pretty sketchy. Then again I don't believe in acupuncture so there's that.

    • @taoist32
      @taoist32 6 років тому +28

      Koko She doesn’t seem well versed in communicating with children. That part about being a licensed medical practitioner made me cringe a bit. She can’t explain it very well so I think she’s not a very good acupuncturist. You don’t have to believe in acupuncture. It’s not about belief. I didn’t believe either, but I wanted to try it. I have had shoulder pain in the past. So, about two years ago I went to an acupuncturist. He stuck three or four needles around my shoulder and attached electrodes to an electric stimulator, kind of like jump starting a car battery. I felt tingles and was told to relax. After twenty minutes they took the needles out. I moved my arms in circles and felt no pain. What most likely happened is that it helps the muscles relax. I don’t know if it affects anything else.

    It's funny how they didn't have Vanessa and Talbott on this episode. They would've right away called her out for being a scam.There is no scientific evidence that this works. Anyone with critical thinking skills could tell that this doesn't work!

    • @simon_far
      @simon_far 6 років тому +17

      I would also have loved to see those twins in this episode. But you shouldn't be so quick to dismiss something just because it sounds crazy, because there actually is some evidence showing that it might work. Example for lower back pain, straight out of one of the highest levels of evidence available (DynaMed Plus):
      "Guidelines are inconsistent, with one recommending acupuncture, one recommending against acupuncture, and one not making a recommendation for or against acupuncture. Across many potential interventions for chronic low back pain, performing an intervention is more effective than doing nothing, and no intervention appears superior to any other. Acupuncture can seem effective whether real or sham. Some clinicians may consider any efficacy a placebo effect, and find suggesting acupuncture unwarranted. Despite not having proof that a specific (or any) technique is involved in patients feeling better with using acupuncture, it still could be a reasonable option based on relative safety compared to other active interventions for patients with chronic low back pain who are looking for a different therapeutic option."
      I'm not very supportive of acupuncture myself, but blanket statements like "there is no scientific evidence" and "anyone with critical thinking skills could tell" don't help the situation; because there are actually high level studies both supporting and not supporting acupuncture. Where I am from, there is usually very little harm to be done with acupuncture (as it is closely regulated), but I understand that in other countries it might not be so safe, so I might be a bit biased.

    • @d4n4nable
      @d4n4nable 6 років тому +2

      @@taoist32 That's absolute nonsense. There is, in fact, a giant regulatory hurdle in your way for all new drugs and treatments where you *do* have to *show* efficacy. Being better than a placebo is key, there.
