100% agree, I wish I could go back to experience the time Destiny 1 trailer released, the hype it created that none of us were prepared for till the day of the release. I lost WAY too many hours of sleep throughout high-school playing D1 with my friends and brother lol idk how tf I managed to get good grades lol but I will never forget the sheer excitement and determination we all had to get home and run through prison of elders, kingsfall, wrath of the machines and trials of the nine. We had a dedicated team for both PVE and PVP, no matter what we wanted to do my brother and I experienced what I think was Bungies biggest success in gaming history. Everybody and I mean EVERYBODY talked about Destiny, hell a few of the girls I dated back in high-school were playing Destiny casually till Vine took over their minds lol The impact D1 had cannot be matched in D2....sad to say because I love D2 but its not the same love that I think everyone who reads this comment could agree with is the same love we had for D1. Idk who all else they have gotten rid of at Bungie but they need to wake up and realize they CAN NOT afford to crutch on Marathons potential to "vault" the Destiny franchise. If they do that, Bungie will flip over and will only be remembered as the creators of Halo and Destiny while painfully rubbing salt into wounds of everyone's childhood. They will need some pull off some magical fairy shit the same way the did with Destiny to continue to generate revenue. Maybe Bungie needs to let go of the franchise and let another developer rewrite a lot of the wrongs but I hope Sony purchasing Bungie could redirect the direction the game and franchise is headed before the train fly's off the tracks.

Dude I remember the first time me and the boys grouped up to try and beat the Crota raid the night that came out. We spawed in, all ran to the edge, jumped off and all died at the same time. One of the hardest times I have ever laughed in my life. We didn't know you had to stand there and wait for the bridge to spawn.

It's all about the art of destiny 1, the sound and visuals were so much more immersive. You just felt like you were in this huge world, the spaces felt so big, in some areas you could see what felt like miles away. Then with the different sounds you could hear, every time it felt like an adventure.

The art style change was a bad decision I don't understand why they made rockets and machine gunso worthless they were fine in d1 along with there perks.
Making primary weapons for the special slot was dumb rarely see anyone use shotguns and snipers hell they nerfed both of those guns to make them pointless in PVP.
Snipers aim assist to the point that only cheaters and the 1% of players could use them and shotguns range were melee was faster and would lunge to melee at the same range the shotgun was effective in.

A good chunk of D1’s vanilla music was composed by Marty O’Donnel, who got fired for internal disagreements before the game launched. Him and Salvatori were the main composers back then and both made amazing works. They brought on more people over time, and most of them have different senses of composition than the 2 OGs.

I’ve always felt like something was lost in translation in terms of visuals/art style when it jumped from D1 to D2. Gameplay and visual performance is superior in D2 for sure, but D1 has the better art style, encounter designs and the banger D1 soundtrack that Marty had more of a hand in. D2 does have good tracks, but I feel like they miss out in certain areas by not using more of the D1 soundtrack. I’ve been here since the alpha, so I’ll definitely be there until the end. Just wish Bungie could have kept the OG crew together and expanded more of the vision of Destiny.

Great times! I wonder how much longer Bungie will keep the lights on for Destiny 1. If they were going to port the game to PC or current-gen consoles, Bungie would've done that by now. We'll enjoy Destiny 1 for as long as we can while we can.

    • @cehaem2
      @cehaem2 3 місяці тому

of course they won't port anything. Compared to D2 level of depth D1 feels really shallow with much fewer perks, no class ability, etc. The good thing is, as D doesn't rely that heavily on dediated servers, keeping the game online generates little extra costs which means they could potentially keep the game alive for another decade. Of course, once we have a PS and its MS counterpart there will be only very few PS4s out there so they might actually say it's not worth it...I mean, you don't buy a new console to play a game that's a decade old. Yes, D2 will celebrate its 10th birthday (I mean, the official release, of course the game is older, even with the playable beta).

  • @LordGhentsis

Fun fact from D1 on the PS3 and Xbox 360: the last update was on the April Update. They didn't get the Iron Banner DLC not the Age of Triumph. But besides that, there is a decent player base on both these old consoles that will play with you, just don't expect a full lobby in Crucible.

I was in middle school when this game came out and the memories of playing this game always put a smile on my face. I literally have endless stories of playing with friends and beating raids for my first time with them. Of course Destiny deserved its criticism when it first came out with its lack of a fundamental story. Even tho I was a Grimoire nerd and collected everything to learn the actual lore of what was going on. Funny I still talk to some of those friends to this day. I’ll never forget my first ever memory of ever even seeing Destiny was being at a friend’s house, seeing him playing it and almost immediately leaving and asking my mom to buy it for me. I get goosebumps now, i remember when i first got Destiny.
In the UK, here in end of August onward's it gets cold, especially as we lived on Brighton's seafront.
I remember, it was a lucky turn of chance, that the day Destiny came out, i had 10 days leave.
I remember going to Game, picking up my pre order copy and guide, getting home and it was BITTERLY cold, unusually cold that year, we had masses of snow, but...... It added to the atmosphere.
I remember it like yesterday, ringing my pals, and we were like kids... Saying how we were gonna pop in too Tesco, get some Red Bulls, Doritos, Chocolate..... Got home, put it in the PS4, and man.... It is weird as i have those nostalgia tingles now.
I looked through the guide, it looked insane... And when i started playing, it just transported me away from life.
All the usual crap you deal with daily, it was just removed, freezing cold outside, me in my nice warm games room, playing Destiny, the missions, the lore, the music.... It was just gaming on a whole new level.
Here i am, 44, moved up too Scotland, beautiful part of the world, iv'e got a fantastic gaming setup, but i'm yet to have another ''Destiny'' moment, and i still think Destiny was one of the best experiences in gaming iv'e had.
I think in terms of great times in gaming......
    Destiny
    Skyrim
Witcher 3..... I think that order in which games made me genuinely sit up and say ''wow'' what an experience.

As a regular D1 player to this day, I always love when people make this type of video. It's cool to see the perspective of people who used to play the game, then left when it stopped being updated, then came back.
First, I 100% agree with your opinions on the art design / music / general vibe of the game. D1 just has that grit which D2 is seriously missing. It reminds me of the jump from Halo: Reach to Halo 4, same deal.
Second, it's funny that you say D1 doesn't have the same sense of community, because from my perspective (as someone who's regularly played since D1 day 1) it has more community these days than it did in 2016. The player population is like, less than 500 total people, which means that if you play the game enough you naturally learn everyone. All the dedicated players naturally become friends (or in some cases enemies lol) because there's no other choice with such a small playerbase.
As an example: in your two games of crucible, you played against Knera. That account is used by a couple of people, so I don't know who exactly you were playing, but Knera himself is a speedrunner. We aren't friends, but we've totally talked in raids and stuff in the past, and we know each others' names and stuff. That sort of thing just doesn't happen in games with bigger populations. You could play a hundred crucible games in D2 and not recognize anyone; in D1, it's basically guaranteed you'll recognize someone.
The other thing I want to comment on is that raids in modern D1 play completely different than they did in 2017. The community has dissected, broken, and solved every raid encounter, to the point where you can join a random 390 King's Fall lfg, and if the team is good enough (and chances are you know each other anyway) you can complete the raid in under an hour without needing to say a word about the raid itself.
And of course, the opposite is true: sometimes you join an lfg and it's a bunch of D2 players, or old D1 people who haven't played since 2017, or actually new Destiny players. But even then, since the game has been solved for so long, you know the most optimal ways to help the team and carry as best as you can.
Anyway, mini-rant over. D1 is just Such a good game, I love when people make content about it in 2024. I saw you're on Xbox, hmu at "itssosnowy" (on Xbox or discord) if you want, maybe we can run a raid sometime

Great times. I remember looking for a new dts to inform myself about everything new in the destiny universe every week, though I only had played the campaign and some strikes at that time and played h5 otherwise. I nonetheless sticked to DTS, as both Ditty’s and your passion for the game fascinated me. I experienced the magic of d1 after d2 already had come out (and was going through a rough y1). As I played the d1 campaigns without skipping all cutscenes in 2017, I started to understand, what the whole game was about and learned, what had made the both of you so passionate about destiny. Thanks for the great times bbk!

As much as I'd love a PC version of D1, I fear that it would just be the same maps imported into the new engine and they would have the same empty, not-lived-in feeling that the worlds in D2 have. But I totally understand the bittersweet sadness of looking back at Destiny. It holds a special place in my heart, and I'm grateful that I got experience it when I did, but I'm deeply saddened by knowing that we probably won't ever get to experience that again.

I had just gotten nechrocasm when I quit. The game is a money pit, and designed to be addictive in nature. The fact that when things don’t go Bungie way they blame it on us. It breaks my heart

All my friends moved in before D2 but the nostalgia from the music and environment is nuts. It makes me sad I didn’t stay with it longer. Something about that game, d2 just doesn’t have that feeling. Part of the reason I quit d1 was the grinding for loot and loosing my entire vault. I miss the dance offs in the tower.

I played a lot of D2 and eventually stopped playing at Beyond Light.
I went back to my light lvl 190 hunter on D1 this summer, and spent around 100 hours getting him to 400 light. It is so much more enjoyable than D2 imo.
Destiny 2 feels like seeing a cool piece of armor and knowing already it’s some $20 eververse armor set.
Destiny 2 also feels more sci-fi fantasy while destiny 1 feels more sci-fi apocalyptic (or maybe there’s a better word to describe the feeling) and i much prefer the tone and style of d1 (locations, armor, weapons) than D2

    • @oprime
      @oprime 7 місяців тому +1

Destiny 2's direction has definitely gone from that sci-fi apocalyptic feel because everything was so raw and there were enemies on all sides. In Destiny 2, MOST of those enemies are now allies and our technology and the stability of the system are almost up to the Golden Age level of things. So it should be interesting to see if Bungie will pull a "Power Rangers show end" on us and make it so that we now have all this skill, team work, great tech, only to have us beaten badly to where we're at our weakest with little to none of our power/abilities but we'll still have our teamwork which will be the driving force to overcome the enemy somehow.

  • @varg1231
    @varg1231 3 дні тому

My IRL friend group and I formed over Destiny 1. We're approaching our 10 year anniversary and I booted up the game to gather some footage for a video I'm making for the occasion..
What struck me most, after the initial nostalgia rush left me. was how Destiny 1 nailed the mood of mystery and discovery. The music, the tone of the voice acting, waht we knew and didn't know about the Darkness, Destiny 1 was a period of mystery and discovery, for better or worse.
The art direction for the gear and shaders was better, in my opinion. Go look at D1 Iron Banner armor that was more centered around vikings and knights. When learning about the Iron Lords in the Grimoire, they are talked about as if they are such as heroic knights of the middle ages. The armor is worn metal as it is, and a certain shader applied can either lean into that effect, or make it look cleaner depending on your tastes.
And shaders.... Not onlt was it easier to tell what color your armor would be, but sometimes a shader would make your armor look like it was made of a different material. Go look at any ankle length Warlock robes and apply "Goldspiral" to it. The shade gives a leathery weight and sheen to the fabric, where, say, one of the Dead Orbit shaders can give it a linen, cotton, or even canvas sort of quality. You don't really find shaders like that in D2.
While there is a lot of cool armor in D2, in my opinion they leaned into this sort of cleaner, bulkier look for the Titan's (which I main, so admittedly I don't have a lot of comparable reference for the other classes), and the sahder colors are anyone's guess as to what's gonna go where.
D2 did improve on abilities, customization, and build craft, though. The emote wheel, and shader storage were huge QoL improvements. It also eventually improved on story and the way it was delivered. The universe became larger and more was revealed about characters in the lore, and the Darkness. Though the game did have its stumbles along the way, Final Shape was a perfect end to the Light and Dark 10 year saga and it was clear Bungie really wanted to give the series a good send off, which they fully succeeded in doing.
Right now, I think a lot of players, myself included, are at a point where we are reflecting on the last 10 years and wanting to revisit the places where it all began. In the video I'm making, I'm creating a whole part from footage of D1 we captured around the time of The Dark Below, and am going to temper it with footage we capture from now. The whole vibe I'm going for is nostalgia, reflection, contemplation, with a healthy dose of melancholy. The main emotion I'm going for, though, is gratitude.
Gratitude for the experiences Destiny has brought us. Gratitude for the community members we interacted with. Gratitude for the strong IRL friendships the game created for us. Gratitude for Bungie going out on a limb and creating something they didn't know how to initially. Gratitude for the times we went on full clan steam rolls in the Iron Banner when light level mattered. Gratitude for all the "totally bullshit" kills the other team got on us. Gratitude for the randos that helped me finish my only ever raid completion by defeating Oryx in Kingsfall...
...And gratitude that we even get to have these memories at all.

My Destiny journey is complex. I got it Day 1 in 2014, at 12 years old. I played Y1 VIGOROUSLY, but always lacking a fireteam for raids/Prison of Elders etc. I did it, but sporadically. That being said, I had a great time. I just fell off during Taken King. Returning for Rise of Iron, I enjoyed it just as much as before. It all built to the 2017 April Update: Age of Triumph.
For context, my feelings towards D1 was always that the content there was excellent, but there wasn't enough of it. Not enough to do, nor enough rewards for doing it. Age of Triumph solved that issue, with all the content and all the (new) rewards for it. D1 felt...complete. Add to that the hype for D2? I was thrilled.
I then played D2 until Forsaken, but moved on because of exams. I haven't been back since...so, 2019? That being said, I haven't felt the desire. Part of that, I think, is D2 lost some tone and art style. It became more spacey, and less grounded.
I have a lot of nostalgia for D1, and I wish it was more permanent than an always-online live-service shooter.
There's nothing to this, I just wanted to get it off my chest.

I played D1 exclusively from the very start until 2 came along I missed out on so many games BUT I didn’t care because of the fun I had everyday with my clan DODuk mainly frost, north, robG, mat, Felix, STU and BTILC. From everything from trails at the weekend to just raids in the week and just messing around in PvP in general. The grind was real but felt worth it something D2 just didn’t get right from the start. Sadly I drifted away from D2 after one too many times bungie promised something that didn’t deliver and almost everything went in to the shop. But the memories I’ve got from d1 are truly cherished.

I definitely feel that about the old friends. All but one of my old raid friends have noved on (unironically, the one I met on Kik back when it was still popular is still in touch with me. We were both in middle school when we met and started playing together in D1 when we were freshmen in high school).
Him and I are the surviving remnants of our old raid group. While we dont enjoy D2 as much as we used to, him and I both moved on to FFXIV and it reignited our love of raiding together. We both often reminisce about our younger days on D1 (he was 15, I was 16. Now he's 23 and I'm 24. We grew up on the game).
Now him and I are eagerly awaiting the Dawntrail expansion. We replaced one memory from our youth with new ones in our young adulthood with FFXIV. It felt...like a natural next step I guess since I dont actually think kids or teenagers play FFXIV. The youngest person I've encountered ingame was 18-19. Oldest I've encountered was 47. It feels nice playing a game populated by adults honestly

I know right? I was just mentioning a few days to a friend on D2 that I wish they'd bring back the Sparrow Racing. It is insane that they never went further with it. Plus with the fact that there are so MANY sparrows in the game, it just feels like a waste. I know that there are some sparrows that are harder to steer than others, some that would be hilarious to race in (mini-sparrows come to mind), and plus having different sparrow horns would be fun!
