Theyre not meant for weed bowls, it's designed for pipe tobacco. the pipes are designed differently. They work incredibly well on pipes designed for pipe tobacco.
I just want everyone to know I carry around a pipe insert as an every day carry. Use one if u want one. Don’t use this video as your evidence to not use one. I change the cotton and wick and get much better fuel consumption now.
I personally dont have any issues with the pipe inserts. Even use them for regular smokes. Tilt and spark from underneath. To each their own. Decent rant though.
Take the cap off the top of the pipe insert and then it works both ways. It's a pain inthe butt trying to light a fresh bowl with a pipe instert, but if you pull the cap off the top and tilt the bowl like you said then it works much better. Once the bowl is lit you can use the pipe insert sideways, as intended, and it works great and helps keep the flame off the rim of the bowl. Yes it does gunk up, but a good craftsman cleans his tools.
I appreciate the video and respect your opinion. My experience is completely different. I smoke a pipe daily, usually in my vehicle or outdoors. I didn’t know about the pipe insert at first, so started with the regular insert. Once I discovered and acquired a pipe insert I was hooked! I find it lights my bowls perfectly. I get 5 days from a full, even though it stays in my car in Florida. If traveling a small plastic bag gets me a full week. I wouldn’t use anything else for my pipes! Are you looking to get rid of the two you have there?? 😊
The pipe inserts are what I really like from Zippo. I found this really surprising. I recommend lighting a bowl from the edge. Lower temperature equals better smoke, tobacco or herb. You should try it again. Do light the top edge with a few pulls of the flame, then close it up and enjoy your pipe. You will probably find that there is a little left all the way down on the opposite side you lit. Just tap on the bowl where you lit it and you should see it roll up on top of the ash to be lit one last time. Hope this finds you well. Cheers
Not to mention, it is impossible to use with wider pipe bowls, as the draw of air needs to be much greater. However, I will admit with narrower bowls I do prefer the inserts since they tend not to scorch the bowl unlike the regular zippos.

i love my zippos but i just dont use them for bowls/pipes that much. it’s just a lot easier to use a bic or clipper especially for bongs where you want to corner the bowl. that being said i’m definitely the weirdo that tries to use the zippo for anything lmao

Zippo didn't start making Pipe inserts till 1981. So my Grandpa had to be using regular inserts in all his old Zippos. Wish I had all his old Zippos. Pretty sure they were from late 30s early 40s. When I stayed with him as a kid in St. Louis, in the late 70s one of my chores was to fill his Zippo lighters every morning. Pretty sure he had both chrome and brass. With and without stripes. He was a clincher and you never seen him without a pipe in his mouth.
Nimrod commander > zippo pipe insert every single day. Biggest bonus is the kid doesn’t flop around when you’re balancing it on your pipe. I’ve tried at least a dozen vintage pipe lighters I was able to get my hands on and that nimrod commander is absolutely the best bong lighter I have ever used hands down. Love the thing. It works better than the original nimrod pipeliter design even.
I havent got any fuel taste it works very fine and u cannot fire ur pipe with normal zippo u can burn the pipe thats why that hole is here but nice rewiew stay safe (:
@@ZippoFanatic77 yes i use briar pipe the place that u put tobacco can get brun and u have to always flip the pipe this is really hard on the other hand u just light the pipe easly with zippo pipe lighter if u didint liked it u can get petersons pipe lighter it is the best thanks for comment
yeah, the zippo pipe insert gives a better taste to the bowl however: the chimney looks like world war II lighter in about 3 days. it feels like the wheel housing gets charred and the wheel works poorly because of it. Probably gonna make the wheel break off in a few weeks. You go to a nice party and your zippo won't light. Zippo looks cool but the insert looks like you lifted it from a dead dictator's pocket. Bic still tastes better on any bowl so who's going to finally invent a decent pipe lighter it's 2022
If using ground weed, you can't really tip the bowl over it'll definitely spill over so for that, this is nice. But a tobacco bowl you can easily tip and it won't spill out so regular lighters are fine
Zippo Fanatic 77 filled up my old late 40’s zippo and I’ve started using that today put a new wick and new wadding and new bottom pad in it to be fair in the comparison.

Fluid is dirt cheap , and cleaning takes a 10 min tops a month don’t be discouraged folks .

Havnt heard of a clipper? They're small enough to fit inside the bowl and can be used upside down.

The only thing I hate about pipe insert is the carbon build up don't know how to clean it but don't get any of your issues guess you should try again

Very easy to remove but I smoke a pipe 90% of the time so I leave it on and just tilt it sideways to light my occasional cigarette or cigar
