A lovely video and I agree with your choices. I am Warwickshire born and bred - I now live in lovely Leamington Spa. It is a really beautiful county in all respects - and yes, Solihull and Coventry will always be Warwickshire to me too. Never did support that West Midlands nonsense!
As a proud born and bred Coventrian, I agree wholeheartedly with your last point. Funnily enough, many people do still put Warwickshire as the county when i receive things in the post. As for the list, I agree with the choices too. Warwickshire truly is home to some remarkably beautiful places. I think in regards to aesthetics, he's right in his top 2 choices, but Warwick itself will always be number one for me. Stratford is incredibly busy, and because of its high traffic of tourism, businesses are charged high premiums and this has (currently anyway) left many buildings and shop-fronts in the centre derelict, which is such a shame. Warwick has a very relaxed ambience to it, almost sleepy, and I love nothing more than walking around the parts near the castle. Oaken Tea Rooms and the church nearby are always a mainstay for me, no matter how short the gaps are between visits.
@StepSoftlyGhost lovely to read that! One of the things that so pleases me about Leamington, is that the centre of town is always buzzing and the interesting little shops always seem to be doing well. I think we live in a beautiful county - and yes, I do include Coventry and Solihull !
I live in Solihull, formally of Warwickshire and consider it to still be part of that beautiful county. Thanks for reminding me of the gems to be found here.
Before they messed with the boundaries and adopted the west midlands Birmingham was in Warwickshire hence the cricket ground in Birmingham. I lived in coleshill which like Birmingham was classed as north Warwickshire. Interesting video
Always a fine day when Alex uploads; can forget about the weather too! Very nice! Hope to visit Stratford one day as well as Warwick Castle and much else of the county. Look forward to Shropshire and Worcestershire when they come. 😊
Kenilworth's a pretty glaring omission. I'll grant that the main high street (Warwick Road) isn't that impressive, but the area around the castle and Abbey Fields is lovely. Loads of beautiful villages in Warwickshire as well, but I guess there's some kind of lower size limit for these lists.
Oh, granted the castle and old high street are very nice. But as you alluded to, Warwick Road didn't do quite enough for me to give it a spot ahead of Rugby, close though it was.
Born and bread in Solihull, back in the late 40's, moving to Dorridge. Wonderful, wonderful memories of hanging onto the Level Crossing Gates in Mill Lane, Bentley Heath, the Signalman would wait for us to hang on the Gate before opening by way of the Mechanical Wheel located in the Signal Box...Landers Dairy, ( also Wackendon's ), opposite what is now a Methodist Church...on the site of the Half Timbered house adjacent to Poplar Road...which was built on Knowle Brick Works...wonderful memories.
I was born & bred in Kerseley, Coventry sometime in the mid-1960s. When the city was still part of the ancient & beautiful county of Warwickshire. I never refer to myself as coming from the West Midlands online...EVER!! Since this conurbation was created in 1974 & we were lumped in with Birmingham. I'm sure the good people of that city weren't too pleased either. P.S. I've nothing against the city of Birmingham by the way. I've cousins living there too. I have many happy memories of visiting there over the years. 🙂🙂
Lived in Solihull for 40 years and moved to Leamington Spa 7 years ago. Really happy I moved to Leamington Spa and no regrets leaving Solihull but now the Cornish Coast is calling so I’m off again 😊
i was born in Leamington, raised in Coventry, but moved back for a few years. lived in a georgian basement flat there. i think you were actually on the street in lived i the town centre. brother in Stratford, other relatives in Southam and dotted around. i moved to London in the 90s and never looked back! Warwickshire does indeed have an abundance of old architecture, but it is too far from the coast for my own liking 😆
We've lived in Warwickshire for just over 10 years now and realise there's still a few towns I haven't visited on this list. Incidentally, in Warwick's town museum there's an interactive model showing the extent of the Great fire of 1694, something which is reflected in the age of the surviving and replacement buildings in the town centre including the rebuilt St Mary's church.
I moved to Stratford-on-Avon 3 years ago and I absolutely love it, it is a magical place and has a 'happy holiday vibe'. It is a shame to see so many empty shops at the moment though- I hope this improves. Warwick is also wonderful and Henley High Street. I need to visit Alcester.
l was born in Birmingham and still live here,-on my birth certificate it was in the county of Warwickshire in those days, l think it was around 1974 that it became West Midlands,-along with several other county boundary changes at that time,-l,ve been to all the various towns in your video and l think Warwickshire is a beautiful county,-very good video.
I enjoyed this one, but I'd still swap Nos 1 & 2 as I find Warwick just a bit better. You are quite at liberty to shout "Off with his head" if you feel so inclined though.
Alex, may I make a small suggestion about the videography? I have noticed in a lot of your videos the buildings appear quite dark or under-exposed. The reason for this is because you have your camera set to Auto and it is taking into account the brightest part of the composition in front of it, which in your case is almost always the sky. I think correctly exposing your film / video is probably more important than shooting in 4K. The fact that you have achannel dedicated to 4K leads me to assume you care about the image quality and hence my decision to offer unsolicited advice. An easy way to fix this problem is to set a fixed exposure. Point the camera at a mid-toned building (not a white one nor one too dark but sort of grey or yellow brick) or even better, at some mixed foliage with light and dark greens. Get near enough for the image to completely fill your viewfinder and then just lock the exposure setting there. You'll generally get a better average result. Obviously it'll change a bit if the sun comes out of the clouds or goes back behind them or if you're filming an especially dark alley but that will actually look more natural and realistic to the viewer. Just do this every time you start to film something. That way, even if you start or a cloudy morning and end up in a sunny afternoon, since your individial clips are quite short they will each be correctly exposed for the amount of light available. I hope you don't mind the suggestion. My intention was to help.
@ well at least that’s honest. Lived there for 30 years but now in London. Honestly think rugby, apart from the small area around the school is ugly, area round the station is terrible.. Kenilworth Warwick rd is appalling 1960 shops but high st, castle park etc more than offset. Still miss the plastic duck race on the stream through the park on Boxing Day
Great stuff. But why is it that so many people mispronounce ‘aesthetic’? The first syllable is ess as in less or eese as in geese, never ass as in lass.
Leamington Spa - as well as a beautiful town, it was once thriving too . . . but sadly, the town planners killed it with its "you can't park here" and its "you can't drive this way" mentality and RUINED it. That pretty much killed all the high street shops and the buzz that went with it. Don't even get me started on the unnecessary house-building at Newbold Common . . . !!
Great castle, great old high street but they're both out of the way in relation to Warwick Road, which doesn't have as much charm. It was close though.
Glad Rugby sneaked in ahead of Kenilworth. Kenilworth high street is not nice to walk down at all. To those saying where is Nuneaton, show me the nice part of the town...

I've lived most of my life in Warwickshire, and can say this video is a very good introduction to what the county can offer. Well done.
Thank you very much!
This has been so lovely to see places that have been so well maintained. Looking so peaceful. Thank You.

That's very kind of you to say! :)

Solihull will always be part of Warwickshire to me!
Just binge-watched 3 of your prettiest towns videos! Your pacing, framing, and narration of such charming towns is excellent.
Ah, thanks. I appreciate it!

My county. Great to see the North of the county getting some love with Coleshill (the 'L' is silent by the way 😊) and Atherstone. Love your videos! ❤
A good video. As someone who has lived in Warwickshire all their lives, I can say that this list is pretty good.
Thank you very much!
Thanks!

The connection to Rugby football and the school was made and Atherstone Ball Game played on Shrove Tuesday wasn’t mentioned.
I live in Stratford and I've drove past many of the places shown in the video, especially in Leamington and Henley.
Do Dorset next
Love Warwickshire, love Stratford on avon ❤

Haha! No, it's all good. It was a tough call for me.
I agree, I love both towns but would just give Warwick the edge.
No Kenilworth in the top 10?! Surely some mistake, if not for the castle alone 😮
The castle's far out of the way though. The main shopping street is a bit nondescript.
Southam my hometown 🎉
I agree with Shipston, but then I do live there!
Yep Stratford is a superb town.
Top 3 i expected :)
Atherstone I lived there for 30 + years

No worries, I appreciate the suggestion. I'll do some experimenting and see if it makes a noticeable difference.
still to this day there’ll be arguments over is it Al-ster or Al-sester. mind you i heard an irishman settle it by saying “Ulster is spelt with a U”.
Warwick does contain some wonderful buildings but the appalling road traffic ruins the place.
Well it was built when horses and carts were the norm
@@letsbeavenue Few people had horses and carts. But they considered a mile to be a short walk.
No one mentioned Nuneaton
Nice enough , but not top 10. No river to speak of. Few interesting buildings.
A ringroad that runs through its town centre, virtually all shops closing down ,ITS A SHITHOLE.
@@fatbar46 I've been there, what ring road the centres pedestrianised
Why not kenilworth
Because I figured the backlash would be stronger if I left Rugby off.

Rugby has the Avon running by it too, but unfortunately we don't value it at all, a shame I think. 🏉
The problem with the Avon in Rugby is that it is un-navigable. If it was navigable and closer to the town centre it would be more highly valued!
@MegaStrangeWorld Agreed
