I have one question, my 666's wheel is really loose, is that common since it has 2 gears? Also it isn't my 666, it's my grampa's engine, but he sadly died in early 2022
Yeah there a little quick but every once in a while you'll find one that runs nice and slow just gotta remember they were never scale model just toys meant to be fun and to a 5 year old fast is fun
You have any idea about how it changes direction? Everytime i stop and start it changes direction. I have to do a really good cleaning myself because it was in the box more than 35 years. I opened it for my kids!! Amazing toys. I have also another one from Lionel. Both of them have been given to me as a present when a was a child from an uncle from the states when he came to visit us here in Greece 🇬🇷
Older Lionel and Marx trains have what's called an "Electronic Reversing Unit" more commonly called a "E-Unit" and its basically a solenoid that moves around a little drum with electric contacts. As the solenoid plunger moves up and down it ratchets the little drum around witch make contact with little copper fingers changing the polarity of the motor... Think of it like an old music box that only plays 2 or 3 music notes... The most common fix is to just spray it with and an electric safe lubricate like WD40 and just run it back and forth till the contacts clean them self's up... You'll find that most of these old trains if you just clean up all the electric contacts like the track and wheels, give them a little lubricate, and run them around a little they'll slowly come around or there own...
No... Ya know I've taken countless Marx motors apart but I've never actually taken one of the smoke units apart before guess I might have to rectify that LoL
@@puggystoytrains1069 I had one that didn't smoke when I at first when I got it. I put a little rubbing alcohol on the wick let it dry then added some smoke fluid and it smokes fine now.
@@puggystoytrains1069 Hi Piggy, nice job with this engine. Is there a chance in the world you'd have any interest in cleaning one up for me? I honestly don't care how much is costs. It was my Dad's and I don't feel like I have the experience to do it. I'd happily send it to you if you would consider it.
@@Hale-rg9im I'm afraid that I really wouldn't feel comfortable working on someone else's but they really are simple to work on but if you really aren't comfortable working on it yourself I'd recommend calling around to some local hobby shops that deal in older toy trains any of them worth there salt will ether do repair work themselves or know someone that does...
Yeah I've been using the Windows Video Editor to make my videos and it dose that and I'm not sure how to fix it other then create the slide in paint first
Just ordered a 666 off Ebay my 3rd steamer I am amazed how well these train were built to last. Thank you for the show
Nice job, will be a big help, I just won an auction on ebay for 30.00, and have the 1666 and Sante Fe tender coming soon. Can't wait to clean it up.
Great video and information. My 666 that I’ve had for fifty plus years could use some proper maintenance. Thanks for sharing 👍🚂
Thank you
@@puggystoytrains1069 You’re welcome, great little DIY video!

Great job. Just did mine. They are great little motors. But they still geared to run too fast.

My 1666 also has to have full power to run like yours does at the begging.
While you had it apart, you should have changed the burned out headlight.

I learned some things! 😊
What's the music you used in the video?
I'll have to look to see what it's called when I get home but all the music in my videos are from the basic video editor that comes with windows 10
It's (Mozart - Eine kleine Nachtmusik)
@@puggystoytrains1069 Thank you. I truly appreciate you letting oking the up for me.
No problem
We're you able to get the smoke unit working? The locomotive didn't look like it was smoking in the video.

Why would they number them like that! The name is bad enough!
It was very cheap to do. They already had the "999". They simply inverted the "999" and had "666",
Wear your Engineer`s hat, and standout.
this is VIDEO why a slide show of still pictures, rather redundant dont you think ???
Not when one needs a still photo for reference work
