- Here is how to use earphones on the PlayStation 5 Controller. The process is extremely simple but there are a few setup septs to configure the sound on the controller.
How To Connect Headphones to PS5
Step on, connect the 3.5mm headphone to the DualSense controller.
Step 2, Press the PlayStation button to access the menu and select the sound settings.
Step 3, configure the audio settings on the PS5.

Does the PlayStation 5 come with headphones? Unfortunately not this time around but if you have wired headphones from a smartphone, they should work fine.

Thanks a lot! Ps5 is my first PlayStation and I never observed my controller so I never noticed there's a 3.5mm jack. I almost spent 100 dollars to buy a wireless headset which I hate because it's usually very warm.

Are you able to set up the audio to come out of both the headphones and hdmi device? I hope recording gameplay isn’t an issue like the ps4 where you needed an adapter to record audio. Thank you for the video!

I can't get it to work as on ps4. Now on ps5 when I got headset plugged in i can chose where audio goes - that's fine. The problem is i cannot separate voice chat from party. I want party chat only on headset.

I have the PS4 gold wireless headset but it doesn’t allow me to change the volume between party and game volume , it only lets me pick between controller volume
I am still stuck with no games so it's tough for me to test this but did you check all the settings even in the main settings area, not just the quick audio settings.

How loud is the audio of the ds5 controller? ds4's audio wasnt loud enough on most headsets.
Seems to be good, I didn’t have issues with the PS4 controller but the PS5 seems good.

It should mute the mic on the headset too. At least that's what I read online.

Okay, I use pc monitor and when I plug speaker to monitor, its sound is not good than I plug it to the PC , so I'm thinking of using headphone via dualsense
i have my ps5 now and after game tranfer and changing some settings i joined my friends chat using the same headset (1 ear and mic) i used in mi ps4, but then they said they hear echo, also one of mi friends use tv output and i can hear his voice echoing, i find in reddits this its happening alot and no one knows how to fix it and the controler output its really quiet so its no good option for me because i have bad hearing.
Can u help me or we have to wait for a update from sony to fix this?
It looks like you may have to wait for an update. You could troubleshoot it though. Try other headphones and see if it continues. If it doesn't it may be a defect in the controller or a compatibility issue with the headphones. Everyone having this issue should call Sony about it so they know it's a problem.
Turn off 3d audio in settings and it will help with the controller output audio. As far as the mic thats a problem i still haven’t overcome

I would assume it should work if the headset doesn't have a built in mic but I can't test in yet. PS5 shipped with no games lol

I have the same issue. I used the bose qc35 on my ps4 and my mic quality was perfect. Using the same headphones on my ps5 and my friends say my mic quality is poor. Hope sony come out with an answer soon!!!

Settings and sound. There should be options there. I don't have the setting in front of me to be sure but that's where I assume it would be.

There is an option that says output to headphones. Choose chat audio to hear only chat. Game audio should come from tv. Does that work?
We don’t see an chat audio option. It just says headset or hdmi. I can’t choose to only hear chat through headset and game through tv.

From what I am reading no. Seems like you are limited to 3rd party USB or connecting to the DualSense controller. Such an odd option to be blocked...

Cause while I suppose random earphones included with smartphones can be compatible, they won’t necessarily work 100%

If the headphones have a mic I'd assume you could configure it in the microphone settings.

It's enabled by default but you can always check in the sound settings under the settings section.

I’m not sure to be honest, I’d test it out but also if you have a smart tv connecting wireless headphones to the tv might work better.
Yes, you can! All you need is just buy a thing, that allow to connect bunch of headsets in one. So you can plug it in a controller and two headsets. But I would not recommend, cause it will drain life a little from your controller

I dont own a PS5 console, just its controller. However, the headphone is not working through while its connected on the controller wirelessly on my Android phone.
I don’t think it works like that. Sound is passing through the Android device so the headphones need to connect to that or Bluetooth

Test the earphones make sure they work on other devices. If they do then test another set of earphones with the controller if they don;t work then it could be a defective port on the controller. If you have a second controller try on it too.

Test another our of headphones. If they work you know the original headphones are broken. If they don’t work then it could be the controller port is damaged

Some headphones are a bit tedious. You might have to pull out the jack slightly or push it in further or it could even be defective headset. You should eliminate the issues by checking the headsets with another device and see if they work. Also check the controller with a different set of headsets and see if they work.

@@DHTV I remember you could use them on on the gen 1 controllers but you had to do some trick to get them to work and then with the gen 2 controllers (ps4 pro/slim) they didn’t work at all

Every time I plug in my mic, everyone says there is an echo... why is that? Hyper X btw.
You aren't alone others are posting on Reddit about this. You need to troubleshoot a bit. Try a few other sets of headsets if you have them and see if it happens. It could be the headphone Jack in the controller. If the other headphones work without echo then it's either the headsets are broken or not compatible with the PS5 controller. If the other headsets have the same issue it could be the controller.

It could be the mic in the controller is being used instead of the headset mic. Seems to be a bug, if you plug in the headset while the headset mic is muted the PS5 doesn’t recognize the headset mic and defaults to the controller mic. I have to make sure I have my headset mic unmuted BEFORE plugging it into the controller for the system to use that mic. Not sure why Sony put a mic on the controller in the first place but I’ve already come across players using the controller mic when they thought they were using their expensive headset mic. 🤬
