As much as I'm dying to get a 110/130 (just as soon as the RRC goes, according to SWMBO!) I can't help but have a massive soft spot/blind side for the 101's. 'Lotto Win Territory' would be a 101 but on a 130 length chassis and possibly a third axle just for the laughs. In the meantime I can watch wonderful creations such as this, a real credit to the owner.
The 101 is a pain to get in or out, noise on the move is ear deafening, mpg to get a heart attack from,a real struggle to drive, expensive to buy own and maintain. BUT,when you drove one you'll understand it all. What an experience it is.I work and drove them aal,GS soft top,Ambulance and even the Vampire. It's a fantastic adventure. The one in your video is so well build and to such high standard,it's fantastic!!! And the 3.5 V8 does make such fantastic sounds in a 101,who needs good mpg anyway (; Shame the MOD waterproof ignition parts are so expensive and hard to get now. Keep up the good work.
That is so cool, a lot of work gone into it. Had the a drive of a 101 ambulance many years ago and remember it taking some getting used to , but great fun...thanks for the tour... 🙂
Let's face it, a 101-style vehicle is every Landie-owner's dream camper conversion. Rotodama already makes a kit-based Forward-Control conversion for knackered Disco's. What they need to do is make a 110-based Ambulance-body version that incorporates most of the 110 "luxuries" such as wind-up windows, dashboard and coil-springs.
I owned two (RHD and LHD) ambulance-body FC101s while stationed in the UK and fell in love with them. I'm 6'2 and I found it more comfortable than my series-3 LWB. Never seen someone modify the back end that way. Really like that. The barn doors and folding steps work fine, but I think the side door setup on this one is pretty slick. And that black paint looks fantastic. Saw one for sale recently in the UK, but importing to the US is pricey. Wish I'd just brought one home with me. Thanks for sharing the tour of this exceptional FC101!!
How is it that after living in Germany for 9 years (trained with the British Army and traveling to the UK often) I never saw these? Now today, I've seen two videos on UA-cam about this same platform? Brilliant design!
@@Bugoutvehiclesuk G'day Rich. Yeah the local/state fires here in Queensland were dealt with weeks ago. Its only bad down around Sydney (1200 kilometers away) and in Vitoria and South Australia. Hope you all had a brilliant Christmas and New Years!
GVV , Northampton registered as my wife owns one that was registered as a Q plate before it went age related. She has gotten some ideas for her vehicle, and it looks great in gun metal grey.
That is set out really well he has put some real thought into it. Not seen a cabover Landrover since the 60's down here in NZ, I remember the Army had some and a farmer in the area I grew up. Anyway cheers for posting bro.
That is well done and the bunk mode is sweet. I'm looking forward to see what kind of bunk setup you come up with for yours Rich. Thanks for sharing this one. It gives me ideas. The wife is standing behind me asking when we can get something like it. When she said that I thought I was going to have a heart attack lol. So I told her to start saving but it would be easier to add four wheel drive to the van and buy a portable toilet. God bless and stay safe .
Now dont get narky mate , i appreciate the time and work put into saving this wonderful old beast. Its just that i look at an aircraft movie or a ripping v-8 and sombody thinks i like there music. I like the music the motors make. That OK with you.
What a smart conversion. I've always liked the look of the FC A bit like the Volvo army conversion but like you Rich. I'm 6' 3" plus so won't fit. Cheers mate for another good video. Good luck and good hunting
steve Parkes yea I was guy against the wheel back against the seat and couldn’t press the clutch with the door shut. I’m sure with a diffeeent seat well back and the wheel angled it would work but it would still hurt long distance.
Nice LR101 conversion. Hope it has a front winch and would be worth getting a trailer. It can carry all the extra stuff needed. If he gets a proper Military LR trailer it will tow off-road
@@NorthernMigrationTravel Land Rover converted 450 of their Forward Control GS's into ambulances in 1977, we extended him by 500mm. So built by Land Rover, modified by us 👍🏻
Drove a few during 20yrs of service. Only thing I can say is that if you hit anything (at more than 30mph), people in the front will get hurt, probably seriously. We didn’t worry about MPG in the Army LOL.
Very nice build !!!! What's the RAL nr of the outside paint color ? I have to repaint my little truck and I absolutely love the paintjob on your build !!! Grtyz. from Belgium, Carlos.
Tidy truck inside and out. They are cramped but you can modify them for longer legs but you need to modify your wallet to get one. Also brand new galvy chassis are available for about £3500.00, saw them at Billing 2017. Cheers '
amazing build! many of these off road campers are not actually that capable off road but this one seems to be quite capable. How heavy is it? Is it under 3.5 tonnes to enable you to drive it on a car liscence?
Beautifull setup, great camper, but.....for bugging out I focus on bug out trailers. The chance of a vehicle like that being "under construction" or "broke down" while a crisis is developing is bigger than that of a trailer (flat tire is about the worst that can happen to a trailer). A trailer can be hooked to almost any vehicle and keep on going. If this brakes down whilst bugging out...you are stuck with all supplies in the vehicle. With a trailer you can setup a base camp and use the vehicles for keeping watch for example. Also you can use your bugout vehicle as a daily drive. What are your thoughts on this?
The issue with your knee and the steering wheel is only an issue with the LHD models. My 6' 5" mate couldn't drive a LHD 101 but does fine in his RHD 101 GS.
What an amazing build. Thanks to owner for letting us look around it. Awesome off road camper.
that ambulance is stunning, both look great together bug out.

That's obscenely beautiful. Love those 101s. A proper rugged vehicle.
That is a awesome 101 bigman, thanks for taking us on a tour.

I love the 101 especially the ambulance body camper conversions!
That 101 is insane
That s a amazing restoration and camper conversion,, Its almost a work of art, well done , love it,.

Meadmaker 452 thanks mate.
That black paint may work OK in the UK where the sunlight isn't anything to worry about, but it wont work in most of the U.S. or the Med.
what a cracking setup! good use of the space available too
Great vid mate one of the nicest 101s I have ever seen
Wish they still made them

Some information on where they got the habitation box made would be awesome and also the colour of the truck 👍
Its Urano grey, not sure what you mean by habitation box
Ashleigh Stone thank you... I mean the actual living area box. Did that come with the vehicle or is it custom shaped/built

Really upped the game with the cinematography brother onwards and upwards 🤜
Prepared to cook and survive thank you very much. I put a lot more time into the edit.
I want one. Would stop the dingoes attacking here in Australia (and snakes, crocs, spiders, drop bears etc) . Very nice thanks mate for showing it.
